Quote:I think there should be a teaming channel open to freebies. I don't exactly 'blame' them for using help to team, but the help channel really has become useless for it's intended purpose.Dont blame the freems for using the only channel they have access to to help themselves form teams.
Edit: I also think that VIP/premium players should have the option to receive tells from freebies. That way those who want to put together groups for the free players would have better tools for doing so. I understand the reasons behind limiting free access to channels, but there should be SOME channels open to them. Others who don't want to see freebie chat can stay out of those channels. -
Quote:I wouldn't mind the DFBabies if they hadn't made the help channel completely ineffective for it's intended use. I used to stay in the help channel in order to, well, provide help to those who needed it. Now it's impossible to use it for that purpose.I love how some folks are so preoccupied with how others play the game they pay to play their way. Brilliant...
Other than that they don't affect my play. But the ARE robbing themselves of the rest of the game by mindlessly running DFB. -
Quote:How about rephrasing this as: "Don't jump in first if you aren't willing to take the alpha strike without support."When I say 'follow the tank' I mean that literally, get your butt behind the tank, let him take point and get initial aggro. I realize that CoH is easier and more AoE-centric than many MMO's, thus it is much more tolerant of alternative tactics and outright sloppy team play in general, but 'follow the tank' can still be a good idea when the team isn't overpowered for the instance. In other MMO's I've played, when running through tough dungeons, if a squishy class runs ahead of the tank and pulls initial aggro he's apt to die quickly. If the healer tries to keep him alive the healer will often gain heal aggro, meaning the tank now has to pry the mobs off of the healer. I've seen too many team and even raid wipes that happened exactly this way, even caused by people who have played long enough to know better.
So... follow the tank. -
I in no way intended to imply that people with no cap/all cap character aren't "decent human beings" (I am not the original poster and consider his phrasing far too extreme.) But it DOES offer a strong indication that they aren't interested enough in their own character to take a second at creation to put proper capitalization in the name. The only way this could be a fundamental atrribution error is if there were another rational reason from the player's point of view. When the name is clearly a joke or a reference to something else that's a rational reason, but most no/all cap names are due to a simple lack of care.

DFB should be specifically tagged to not give DXP so that the DFBabies would be forced to take a look at the rest of the world if they want the bonus.
-
Quote:I've had the same thought. I also suspect that if we were to get a DXP weekend it would probably be gated by payment status requiring either VIP or a certain level of premium rank.I think--emphasis on think--that with the XP and prestige boosters that you can get now, the developers don't intend to have any more "Double XP Weekends." Add to that it was really to encourage old players to return to the game for a month or so and try out new features, which is kind of moot now that they can return any time they want to and play for free, I just don't think we're going to have Double XP weekends any more. Also, there used to be a fair number of people who would complain, "I have to work that weekend," or "I'm going to be out of town," or whatever.
-
He was specifically referring to people with character names in either all or no caps. Not bothering with caps in chat isn't so bad, but if you don't care enough to even bother using proper capitalization when you name a character it's a different matter.

I support this idea. I love film noir and would like to see what those who actually use AE as intended could do with it.

1) Don't join a TF that you don't fully intend to complete.
2) Don't be the first to throw in the towel if things get rough.
3) The team/league leader (and I don't mean myself) has the final say on the big picture strategy. If you think they should do something differently offer your advice in a tell instead of trying to stage a mutiny.
4) This is a game. Even if a TF ends in total failure you haven't lost anything more than a couple hours and you still probably got exp/inf/drops along the way.
5) You're supposed to be having fun. If there's some aspect of the game that doesn't contribute to your enjoyment then don't take part in it. If you're not having fun at all then it's probably best to log out and do something else for a while unless you've made commitments to others in-game.
6) Assume any jabs people take at you in chat are in jest and react as such because trading friendly insults is fun. If someone really is being a dingleberry don't fight back, just put them on ignore. -
I wish they'd give us the option to have rent due automatically drawn from prestige. Going to pay in person isn't that big a hassle, but if I can set up autopay for things with real money (such as an on-line game subscription) I should be able to do it in game.

A couple months ago I saw a stack of Tabula Rasa Collector's Edition boxes at a Walmart for about 10 bucks each. I almost bought one just for the heck of it.

I thought they were doing a good job of setting up a mystery with the Who Will Die arcs, but then they went and posted a banner on the official front page letting us know that Statesman was going to die in part 5 a month ahead of it's release. When it was released I found part 5 MUCH less enjoyable than the others since I already knew how it was going to turn out. Compare that to part 3 which is, imo, the best segment of WWD so far. That one had a death in it that I wasn't expecting and made me much more vested in the story.

Another thing about Wade's ritual is that it was copied from one used to kill both Inperious and Romulus with Imperious willingly giving his blood and life to end the threat of Romulus. The fact that Wade only killed one person with it may have set up a magical imbalance that gives him some major bad karma.

Quote:I can't argue with the logic, but I don't want to play a game called City of Attorneys.Crey Industries is a legal business. Their property, personnel and trade secrets are protected by US law. Trespassing in their facilities, assaulting their personnel and destroying or stealing their equipment are still crimes. There's such a thing called "due process." It law enforcement, a court of law and legal proceedings. That's precisely WHY Crey still exists - because their shark lawyers are good at bending the rules of the system and the Countess is good at covering up her tracks. If we raid one of their installations, it should only ever be done with a court order, a search warrant or otherwise with some form of justification above and beyond "Their evil, go steal their stuff!"
There is such a thing as subtlety, writers. There are villains who are not just an openly evil paramilitary organisation who stand on street corners, belly-laughing about "Ho ho ho! We're so evil!" The fight against crime isn't always literally a fight. Not all problems can be solved by finding the right person to punch in the face. The fighting is done done for its own sake. Ultimately, it has to serve a larger purpose, and in the case of Crey, proving that Countess Crey is a criminal IS that larger picture. But you know what? Corporate law being what it is, the actual Crey Corporation can survive even after the Countess and all her cronies are in jail. A "corporation" is a non-sentient entity that cannot be accused of a crime. At best, it can have all of its property and finances ceased to repay outstanding debts, but there's nothing stopping its investors from carrying on in name only. After all, they're only in the cost of their investment, they don't incur any of the corporation's actual debts.
PS I agree with you wholeheartedly on the way 'secret' villain organizations have been made far too transparent. In the early days of the game playing through the arcs (and some of the non-arc missions) actually let you in on information that wasn't available to the general public. It added a lot to my enjoyment to find out through missions that the Circle of Thorns were more than just a modern day group of mystics or that the Lost have been mutated by the Rikti. Now when Anton Sampson says he isn't sure if the 'New' Nemesis is the same person as the original I want to shake him and say, "Of course he's the same! It says so in this brochure they gave me when I first got to the city!" -
As far as Statesman wanting to die, this really is plausible. After being dragged back to life by Manticore and Numina in the comic book he was clearly unhappy about it.
Here's an alternative as to why he can't be brought back: Having lost his powers he would be resurrected as man who is something like 115 years old. He might immediately die again from age related complications. Red Widow was apparently killed in the prime of her life with whatever powers she had fully intact, so she was good to go on being brought back.
Not that I think either of those concepts really works.
PS The mission givers go to great length to warn you that the 'dying breath' is something that would be very difficult to acquire if you waste it. It seems to me that a villain would have a fairly easy time getting hold of that. You wouldn't even have to bottle it, just drag along a hostage and kill them in the circle. -

Dear Miss Arcanus,
I fully reciprocate your feelings of a romantic nature.
Sincerely,
Raymond Keyes, Ph.D -

Quote:I was thinking back to the early days when many people were posting that individual performance did matter, some claiming to get nothing but rare and very rares because of their superior skills. Just wanted to make sure that particular idea didn't get back into circulation. The post I remember was made when we only had BAF and Lambda. Apparently, there were two or three reward tables, and the better the league did, the better the table that was used. But you are correct, individual performance doesn't matter, except to push the league to higher levels; as I said, everyone on the league rolls on the same table (though their individual results vary, of course).
PS If you want better chances at rare/very rares start running Keyes more often. It's pretty quick and not at all hard to complete (though some of the badges are tricky.) -
Quote:I believe the differently weighted tables are for different trials (ie, the Keyes trial is weighted to have rares and very rares more likely than BAF or Lambda) or for very specific requirements (you have to be in the UGT for the entire run to get the guaranteed rare/very rare table.) Actual performance by an individual does not seem to make any difference as long as the minimum participation threshhold is met. From what the devs said the last time this discussion came up, there ARE multiple tables, each with different weighting. However, all tables have everything from common to very rare on them (you can't do so well that it's impossible to get a common, for example), and there's nothing you can do to increase your individual table; the table to be used is based on the effectiveness of the league as a whole, and everyone (except those who idled enough to get 10 threads) rolls on the same table.

For you, a brute of whatever type you prefer. You'll do more damage than a tanker, yet still have a taunt aura to help in keeping mobs off of her.
For her, a blaster (though probably not energy since managing knockback might be a problem) would probably be the easiest to get into with you duoing. Note to blasters fans: I'm not saying blasters are easy, but as long as someone is keeping the mobs off of them they can dish out damage with relative safety. A defender would also be a good choice, but one of the less active primaries would probably be better than kinetics. I would recommend sonic, cold, or thermal as ones that are mostly buffs and/or heals early on but with enough debuff powers to keep them from being boring. As far as secondaries anything would be fine though, again, energy might be tricky. -

Quote:It amuses me that in the villain side of WWD part 1 you board a ship to get to the Hollows but jump out of a van when you get there.3. Ideally, they could just put the PI Ferry on the Tram Line and call it a Transfer. After all, how many times do we jump into a truck or boat and exit inside a mission which could be an office building or sewers on the 'other side' of the city divide? We presume we took all the connecting transfer vehicles to get there. There's no reason we couldn't get on the Tram in Steel and get off the Ferry in PI and assume that we got off in Talos, took a bus to the Ferry there, and wound up in PI.

It's a secret and Zwill is evil. This can only mean that a villain named The Zwillinger will have an important role in the next SSA. He'll probably be attempting to amass the world's greatest collection of magic hats for some nefarious purpose.
