It's more complicated than that. Very few critters have resistance to all damage types,

    [/ QUOTE ]
But quite a few critters have 20% or more passive resistance to the damage type the critters themselves use. Which is the type that matters for damage debuff resistance.

Generally agree on your support of the Kinetics set, but I think you're underestimating the impact of damage debuff resistance in the PvE game. (Damage debuff resistance in PvP is almost assuredly broken, but hey, what isn't?)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, damage debuffs in general are just less effective in PvP. Most players are running around with a 90% damage buff in all of their powers from enhancements alone. They do get higher values in PvP, but they'd need to be in and around triple their PvE values to be effective.

Anyways, damage debuffs tend to come in large numbers, and they're very effective since most enemies aren't getting damage buffs. A 20% damage debuff takes off 20% of an enemy's damage more often than not. Unless enemies are touting AV-level resistance, they're very good mitigation.

Poisonous Ray does Toxic damage. It's clearly indicated in the power description. See here also.

But that doesn't mean it's typed as toxic.

Well, you can lead a horse to the bush, so you can have your cake and bite the early bird that feeds you the worm, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
  4. Let's just switch the Scrapper and Defender inherents. Defenders get criticals, Scrappers get Vigilance. Everyone's happy, right?

Don't mention healers anywhere. The Defenders WILL find you.

The British version of The Office must be your least favorite sitcom EVER.

    [/ QUOTE ]
That was exactly the show I thought of when I read that.

I can watch the US version all day long (and enjoy it, too), but the British version, as much as I wanted to like it, I just couldn't get through an episode without it getting too cringeworthy for me, prompting a change of channel. I'm not sure if that's a triumph for the original or not.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have problems with both versions of The Office. Season 2 of the US one isn't as bad, though.

A "mage" is someone that zaps things from a distance. I'm a tankmage if I can survive anything and fry their eyebrows.

You don't need HIGH damage to be a tankmage. You just need ranged damage and great survivability.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Isn't the "mage" part just high damage, not range?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Let's play a game. How many wizards/mages have you ever heard of that cast weakass spells?

Aside from the most famous ones, there are MANY MANY acolyte wizard/mages out there that are "mostly harmless". Being a wizard/mage doesn't NECESSARILY mean that you can rain fire from the heavens.

HOWEVER, almost all wizards/mages can shoot spells from a distance, with those that can't being the rare exception.

Now, how many wizards or mages do you know that are professional boxers or kung fu masters?

    I rest my case.

    [/ QUOTE ]

However, in any MMO, which is what we're talking about, the mage-like character is basically a Blaster. High damage from long range is the defining mage role.

My personal biggest gripe is not time to kill, but endurance to kill. Increasing damage will help my end to kill issue, but I'd rather them keep the slower pace, just with less downtime.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This reminded me of something from a while back. I don't have a link but some time in the past a Red Name mentioned that Blasters have a built in endurance reduction baked into their blasts. This makes me wonder if Corrupter Blasts were based from Blaster Blast sets and scaled to the correct damage levels only. It feels from play that the Corrupter Blasts are more endurance efficent than Defender which leaves the Defender huffing after a fight while a Corrupter can take a moment and then move on. Well except for the Defenders with End buffs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This was actually addressed way back in Issue 1 or 2, I forget which. Defenders got an across-the-board end reduction on their blast powers, a significant one, too. It used to be a whole lot worse.

    2. If it can somehow be made blatantly obvious that phase shifted characters in PVE are phased. Can they float, glow, or become completely untargetable? Again for PVE only. I think Phase Shift works fine in PVP and should be left alone for those purposes.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This. Just give us an "Invalid Selection" like what we get when Fake Nemesis mobs use their PFF.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Let's not make them untargetable. This way people can still preemptively set up anchors on them and such.
  11. Well, you'll want to have both Neutrino Bolt and X-ray beam to start out. A chain involving both powers is far more effective than a chain with just one until you start getting some recharge bonuses and putting procs in Neutrino Bolt.

X-ray beam is something to spec out of later (it still adds to your DPS in high levels, but its effect is reduced), but I'd definitely take it for the ride up.

Also, not just Irradiate but Irradiate, Electron Haze and Neutron Bomb. Rad Blast has 3 AoEs, and that's where its primary strength lies.

On my Rad/Dark Corruptor, I took every power in the set. There's really none that warrant avoiding. The Snipe's a good snipe. The nuke's a good nuke. All that really needs saying is that Cosmic Burst is easily the best blast power ever.
  12. Rad/Dark does work very well together. It's a solid performer both solo and on teams. You can probably solo AVs/Heroes with it, though I've never tried on mine, strangely enough.

The single-target damage starts out kind of weak, but that's fixed by putting procs in Neutrino Bolt and just plain having Cosmic Burst.

But still, the AoE debuffing of /Dark + the AoE damage of Rad/ = Good times
  13. Controllers have always somewhat trod on Defender territory, but the two ATs at least play completely differently. Numbers might favor Controllers, but I always enjoyed playing Defenders more. Rather, I could never stand playing Controllers. They would always bore me to tears. I like having a set dedicated to damage.

Corruptors, on the other hand, play pretty much exactly the same as Defenders. The difference lies in numbers, and Corruptors tend to have the advantage there. Who cares if they provide a few points less of defense, resistance or healing than Defenders do when you've got 2 or 3 of them on a team?

Corruptors will heavily infringe upon Defender territory, and I'll bet that they'll even take a good chunk out of Blasters, too.

Defenders and Corruptors are just way too similar, and, as datamining can show, damage trumps all when it comes to popularity.

  15. To get the villain ancillaries, you have to complete a Patron Arc. You get the patron arc by talking to one of the patrons in Grandville any time after you hit level 41.

As the game has evolved, many things have changed. Epic power pools were introduced, inherent abilities were added such as Containment, which was intended to appease angry players after the multiple-pet nerf.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Containment was first added in PvP only, to compensate for PvP mez suppression. Controllers were only able to deal damage safely when their enemies were helpless, and since they could no longer keep their enemies helpless as much of the time as before, they needed a way of doing more damage during those occasions.

Containment was added to PvE after that, but simultaneous with the multiple-pet nerf as part of a two-pronged change to distribute Controller damage output better across all primaries and level ranges rather than allow them to remain whirling maelstroms of XP-spewing fury...but only if you were Fire or Illusion and over level 32. Containment was not added after the pet change and was not added to appease those who hated said change.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, it was meant to appease those who hated the sweeping nerfs on all AoE controls that also came in I5.
  17. Tank, yes, mage, I'm not so sure. Defenders in general are a bit lacking on the mage front, and they'll bump into several other ATs if we give them any more magery.

Now tankery, on the other hand, is a wide open field for us to play around in. We can't grab aggro like Tankers can and we still won't have status protection, so we don't have to worry about bumping into them. Why shouldn't we be more resiliant than we already are?
  18. Ok, so we know that Vigilance sucks. Everyone's known this ever since it was first introduced. Even the people who will come into this thread, quote those first two sentences and say that they like Vigilance actually secretly hate it.

So I propose a new inherent, an inherent that everyone can love, an inherent that helps us when solo, and an inherent that's probably ridiculously overpowering. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Defendilibrium.

Imagine you're an Emp/Rad. Wouldn't it be nice, every time you cast Fort on someone, to get a damage, accuracy and defense buff on yourself, too? Wouldn't be even nicer to get a defense buff every time you debuffed someone's defenses with Rad Blast?

All single-target buff powers in our primaries and secondaries would be changed to apply a smaller version of the buff to the caster. The small buff should be 20-40% of the strength of the original buff and have the same duration as the original. These self-buffs would not stack from the same power (no spamming speed boost or shields). These buffs would be affected by enhancements.

All debuff powers (again including only our primaries and secondaries) would give the opposite buff to the user. -Def powers like Rad Blast would give +Def to the user. -ToHit powers would give +ToHit to the user, etc. The buff should be around 10% of the value of the debuff (debuffs tend to have higher values than buffs) and last the duration of the debuff. They, too, will not stack from the same power. These buffs would not be affected by enhancements (the enemy's debuffed, what more do you want?).

Special cases must be made for powers that do not give buffs or debuffs. For instance, Energy Blast doesn't buff or debuff, and neither does Archery. Using a bunch of Energy Blast powers to get yourself some KB resistance sounds kind of lackluster, so we'd have to think up something.

  19. They're not weak to negative, merely not resistant to it.

The best I've done was a +3 group of Rikti with 2 bosses, 3 LTs and a scattering of minions on my Dark/Rad Defender. It took him 7 minutes to do. That was done while the new RWZ was still on test, so I could probably do better if I really IOed him out these days.

I should see how my Rad/Dark Corruptor does with it. Probably won't take 7 minutes.
