hrm, haven't redownloaded test... afraid i'll have to pass. good luck though!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Duplicate your coh folder. Add the -test flag to a new shortcut, and point the launcher to your duplicate folder.
  2. I'll get my internet connection up and take you up on said challenge on saturday.
  3. After further examination, I've discovered this strategy.

Ignore them while completing your own objectives. It will infuriate them and they will expend extra endurance to grab your attention. Use torrent to knock back their minions occasionally.
  4. I suppose taking the upgrade path was a poor choice. I'll just reinstall Vista on a blank disk.

Sounds like you should of had broadcast chat turned off.

Teaming up to kill someone in a PvP zone is not cheap - its called using the mechanics of the game.
Not saying you did anything wrong by leaving, but there are other options. You could of:
    1. Gotten a friend to PvP with you and evened the odds
    2. Done some shadow games and try to get them seperated, then attempt to get the kill on one of them.
    3. Switched to a different toon that might have handled the 2v1 better. (only applicable if you had one).

[/ QUOTE ]Or option 4 and i use this often, if your so tough and can do this and that to me. How about we see in the arena? And more than likely he would have opted out, if not crush in in the arena, and when you get back if he still is talking, broadcast the results of the crushing numbers don't lie. :P

    [/ QUOTE ]

I should've turned broadcast off. The only thing that makes me hesitate about that is that there are extremely rare cases where there are PvPers who are helpful and give constructive feedback on performance.

I could definitely see how the arena could've been a different experience as there would not have been heavies and stray NPC fire. I want to make it clear before anyone calls this out on me: Fightclub is not my aim. I would've loved a team, but at the same time I believe in balanced representation.

Was constantly ganked over and over.

Stop complaining on the boards because PvP is dead, or dying or anything else. Because if the way I was treated in PvP is any indication to how others are treated, then I must say, you have only done it to yourselves.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [ QUOTE ]
If people are really that concerned with the population of PvP, then perhaps you should try not ganking on the new guys so much, and give them a bit of breathing room. I also noticed the people who are normally there, were virtually left alone. That to me is not how you get others interested in PvP.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would tend to agree with you. Not only are many of the PvP'rs only out to "school the noobs", they are very insulting when you don't let them school you.
I can tell the difference between when I have a chance in a fight and when it's time to make a break for it. I really don't need to be insulted when I know if I stay I'm just going to fall in combat. It's annoying. I put a lot of PvP'rs on /gignore due to the ignorant taunting. They can go call names in the school yard if they want. I'm not playing a game to deal with bullies.
Unfortunately, that's all some PvP'r are; they are just bullies and that's it. I'm not saying that's all of them, but I have run into some of them that are.

To me, the complaints about DR, etc. pretty much come down to, we aren't uber powerful any more; aka they aren't 100% guaranteed that they will be able to school a noob.

Yes. No one wants to loose all the time. If you are fighting an uphill battle that you know you can't win without having maxed out IO sets, the hill is a pretty mighty one to climb for a new PvPr.

So yeah, lighten up in the PvP zones until they get more populated and then have some good fights. Camping on the doorstep, et al. ganker-esque tactics should be not be used. There is plenty of room in zones to PvP. Play the zone and don't abuse it.
We all might find that there is more going on in PvP zones and that they start becoming a lot more fun.

    EDIT ::

I read some of the garbage replies on this thread.
What you don't understand is "the point".

It has nothing to do with "letting someone else win".
It is about an enjoyable experience for everyone.
When you can easily defeat someone, leave them alone unless they attack you. The only point in defeating them repeatedly is bullying.
If name calling, etc. is okay in PvP, then, yeah, screw PvP. That will turn people off immediately. It isn't about having a thin skin, it's a matter of you are trying to do something that you are new at and you are being verbally abused. That's not cool. You are not cool for doing it. You are being a jerk for doing it. And, as I said, you're just going to get /gignored by me, so what good is it doing you as a PvP'r to be /gingored?

If you can't understand why what was posted was posted by the OP, then I sort of feel sorry for you....the part of me that doesn't just want to /gignore you and make you a non-entity (aka pretty much "killing you" in this PvP arena in my world view.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

That is the smartest thing I have seen a PvP person say on these forums. It is 100% true, and why I dont go in the zones much at all. If I dont want to deal with punk jackasses I dont go where they are. Simple as that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    QFT.

That's the reason I stay out of the PvP zones, unless I'm there for a badge. Not to say I couldn't handle myself--I just prefer to avoid people with sorry-[censored], immature, child-like, just-hit-puberty type of behavior. Just generally not my cup of tea...

On a related note, the OP reminded me of a recent story where I took my MA/SR scrapper into RV for some badge grinding... I was busy minding my own business pounding away at one of those turret-thingies, and WHAM! A stalker hits me from behind... I sighed, hit a small green insp, turned around and took him down in 3 shots. Then, I turned around and kept pounding away. He actually hit a rez and started dizzily backing away from me as if I wouldn't notice--haha! However, acting like a true "hero", I let him run off, and continued my primary objective for being in the zone. about 2 minutes later, BAM! There he is again for the "rematch." *sigh* Hit [Elude], typed "Dude, I'm just tryin' to get a badge", and kept pounding away at one of the turrets... But he was like a mosquito! So, I eventually turned around and pounded him into the ground again. This went on about 4 or 5 times, before he sent me a tell saying "Ok, I'll leave you alone."

    "'Bout time", I thought.

Some people just don't give up--So, I completely understand your "gank" situation, ESPECIALLY on a toon that can't take the pounding... God help you if you're there as a badger.

    "The One"

    [/ QUOTE ]

The guy was probably just trying to score a kill in PvP. It's really not too much to ask in a PvP zone.

I did have this little episode last night in RV where an elec brute Kept insulting me over broadcast and I stayed perfectly silent. There were moments when I dealt sufficient damage to make him feel threatened. When this happened he would accuse me of using yellow inspirations. Can you believe it? He expected me to just sit there and take his verbal abuses while he sits there in a position of impunity and comfort, and when I actually get to hit him he accuses me of using inspirations. (I actually used Geas of the Kind Ones, which I thought was okay considering the fact he was using the Nemesis Staff constantly)

After beating him back, but not being able to successfully kill him, an exact visual copy with the same power sets comes along and they ganged up on me. Knowing I could not winagainst the damage output of two enemies, I fled. This erupted in beratement and name calling. I never said a thing. I ignored them and tried to move on to some other activity. But they wouldn't stop following me to score some cheap tag-team kill.
I eventually left to do something else. I just couldn't tolerate that poor sportsmanship.
  7. To fulfill your request animation would need to be redone to account for continuous movement.

Oh, and there are games that DO root you when swinging. Games that come to mind are The Witcher, Phantasy Star Online, Phantasy Star Universe.
  8. Hey, I upgraded from XP to Vista and I've noticed that I cannot alt-tab ouf of CoH. WHat happens is that I alt-tab and the sound fades but CoH continues to stay up front and I cannot see my desktop objects or the application I switched to. I have to literally Ctrl-Alt-Del and spam alt-tab while clicking "Start task Manager" to switch tasks and see my browser and other apps.

Is this a known vista problem, or am I all alone?

    Drenched Donuts

I keep hearing the voices in it and the place looks so inviting, but I can't get in

It would be nice if the Drenched Donuts shop in Faultline had an interior, whether for a serious purpose or not.
  10. A colossal Mark Twain attacking Skyway City would please me greatly.

Let me put it much more simply:

Anything - ANY thing - that adds ANY graphics complexity, DOES add lag and processing issues. Even switching from Hero to Villain side has people scrambling around here asking why their machine won't work right or why can't they even enter Grandville without crashing. The issue is graphical and processing power, and you cannot get away from those problems if you add anything to the visual appearance of any game.

@Psyonico - I like how the water looks, actually, it IS a clever little trick, it's not "real" reflection (and also, notice how many costume pieces and sometimes whole areas of your character simply *vanish* under water?) but it does look pretty cool, enough to fool you into thinking you're seeing a reflection.

    [/ QUOTE ]

ATi cards actually project a reflection of players and object geometry on the water, but it's a broken implementation whose intention is under dispute.
  12. That's pretty general. Could you name some of these weak powersets?
  13. My personal reason was that many of these building interiors are actually several yards under the map where the building is when viewed from the exterior. You'd see teleport lag and visual dirtiness on occasion if it simply snapped upward.

The AE building is an exception and it annoys me that we have to have a transition when the interior and exterior are perfectly aligned in space.
  14. I refuse to sign anything that means clustering with Freedom

Awesome. For the Five Year Anniversary I'll be quitting the game.

Would you quit the game if said invasion included MC Escher stairs and crappy special effects with David Bowie music playing? And no lollipops, promise.
  19. Or they should just bring it back so it can be done.
  20. I expected a completely different word at the end of the subject line when I was going to click this link...
  21. Well, if they open the capsule and somethigng crazy is supposed to happen, it would have to be a backend behavioral script on existing critters and not much else at the current rate.

Here's to hoping it's more than Eochai and Rikti Invasion firing off both at once
  22. Hopefully it will lure enough people out of the AE building for a good old time in the city
