Vista Task Switching: Just me?

Hey, I upgraded from XP to Vista and I've noticed that I cannot alt-tab ouf of CoH. WHat happens is that I alt-tab and the sound fades but CoH continues to stay up front and I cannot see my desktop objects or the application I switched to. I have to literally Ctrl-Alt-Del and spam alt-tab while clicking "Start task Manager" to switch tasks and see my browser and other apps.

Is this a known vista problem, or am I all alone?

I don't remember this happening to me unless something bad happened (TM) to CoX.

If I recall correctly, CoX hates to minimize when it's the only thing running. It also refuses to minimize when it soft-crashes and is displaying an error message.

Edit: Reread post, and somehow missed that you tried the task manager already. At this point, I'd recommend checking your graphics card drivers.

I'm not having any problems with Alt + Tab. 64 bit Vista. I almost always have Firefox 3, Mids' and Notepad up while I'm playing, and I frequently tab out to those programs without a hitch.

Alt tab seems to only work if there is something else already open. Alternatively you can just hit the start button to open something then you can alt tab.

I suppose taking the upgrade path was a poor choice. I'll just reinstall Vista on a blank disk.

[/ QUOTE ]Upgrade is always risky. I dont think your issue is that though. Keep in mind with upgrade many apps may not work correctly and stuff will have to be reinstalled anyways. Basically you run the risk of any problems following you from your previous install of windows. So always do a format and install whenever possible.

I can't alt tab out of CoH either.

I did a fresh install of Vista. So fresh that I formatted even my backup disk by mistake! :-(

I'm playing on the same resolution/refresh as the desktop, in full-screen mode. I can get out of the game if I do this: Ctl+Alt+Del -> Task Manager, click 'Show Desktop' from quicklaunch.

Drivers and Updates are all up-to-date.

It probably has something to do with Aero, maybe getting CoX properties and choosing xp compatability mode would fix it.

Looks like installing ATi Catalyst 8.x fixed the problem. Must be a driver problem at this stage.

Running 64 bit Vista with Aero turned on, been tabbing between the game, seven or eight open Firefox windows and Mids' planner for the last three hours.

The OP is having a driver issue, not an OS issue.

Cool I am having that problem too I am using ATI Catalyst 9.5 and it was working fine before. Might have to with the Vid Drivers. I havent tried rerolling drivers. Alt+Tab works fine on other games like COD:WaW fallout, Steam games, just CoX for me atm. I might need to reroll drivers

CoH has issues with task switching on ATI cards. :/
