All of my wererat-esque characters are brother/half-brothers.
I used to have a fictional 'Port Oakes Tech' institution where all of my teenage supervillains went to, but the only one who survived idle deletion isn't really a teen anymore. -
You know, I can't help but think I've seen a thread like this before.
Regardless, here is my Bots/Traps introduction, copied directly from his profile (Runs Toon/tier3/tier2/tier1):
Introducing TEAM CHAOTIX!
Starring... Tony Hartfield, as Kid Chaotix! "Lame. Can we finish this up? Mythbusters is on in 45 minutes!"
Vector, the faithful lab assistant! "Blowing things up..... for SCIENCE!"
Gir, the resident screwball! "Hah hah ha... HAH HAHA!"
Wingnut, the angry Scot! "Aye, Laddie!"
Tom Servo, the sensitive jokster! "My shorts are never boring!"
Special guest star Rudy! "This funhouse is CLOSED!"
And..... Chaos, the stalwart leader! "All will die by my hand."
Team Chaotix! We're invading a city block near YOU! -
Claws/SR: Tested outside Tailor.
Hide activation sound does not occur after placate, nor after landing an attack and waiting the 8 seconds to get back normal hide status. Tested with all the FX, the only difference being Minimal FX didn't play sounds at all.
Tested inside Bloody Bay:
An interesting thing happened: While fighting a freak tank, I placated him, and he immediately stunned me through mez protection. The hide reactivation sound played after I was unmezzed. Otherwise same deal as outside tailor.
I distinctly remember the situation you described, were placate would play the activation sound for hide again. I just can't remember when that was taken out.
Unfortunately, Claws doesn't have secondary animations, so I can't test your second theory.
EDIT: Someone killed me while I was idling in Bloody Bay and writing this up. I feel so loved. -
You're my new best friend, Siolfir.
Though in retrospect, If I wanted to create something to keep the catgirl population in check, I probably should have made something a bit more canine then rodent. Oh well, he's still fun to play. -

Guys, I seriously starting to think someone hacked Fritz's account and is trying to make him look bad. -

That's a bad example in that it doesn't create a pet. Think more along the lines of "why should I have to wait for the Spectral Terror from the MI in the boss spawn or all of these KoA caltrops to fade before the mission ends" - which you have to do - instead.

Good point. I'll bug that when I go in the game again.

To be frank, I'd consider /bugging Gang war and the Warshade pets because they DO persist after the death of the creator. Even though I consider it completely ridiculous thematically for your controllable pets to drop dead of heart attacks when you are defeated. Gameplay-wise, however, it makes perfect sense for everything you own to stop upon being defeated. I know *I* would be complaining if every Family LT's Full Auto would continue to damage me even after I killed them.
I guess we'll just have to accpet these limitations of gameplay design. -
I made a wererat Stalker to help control the catgirl population. Claws/SR, of course. Two problems, though:
1: Very few catgirls attend the Guardian PvP zones anyways.
2: Everyone thought I was a furry, even though he was above the 10% rule. (Grey hair and long ears only) I guess cats get a pass due to certain comic book characters.
He's still one of my favorite characters to play, public perception be danged.

Wow, that is a hell of a lot of replies from a simple question of curiosity...pretty funny stuff.

It's an indirect pandora's box of people's fears and perceptions. I think the best part was reading through people's reactions: "Okay, this guy's in denial....." -
I don't remember this happening to me unless something bad happened (TM) to CoX.
If I recall correctly, CoX hates to minimize when it's the only thing running. It also refuses to minimize when it soft-crashes and is displaying an error message.
Edit: Reread post, and somehow missed that you tried the task manager already. At this point, I'd recommend checking your graphics card drivers.

What I believe is happening here is some people taking issue with bodyguard, when they really are taking issue with Defensive mode. This is because, in my opinion, that the majority of people who are playing MM are still using those three dinky pet macros provided to you in simple mode, none of which even use defensive mode. Let's review:
Passive: The minion does jack. Minions with special abilities won't use said abilities.
Defensive: A minion on defensive will attack a target if said target lands a sucessful attack (One that doesn't miss) on itself, any of his minion friends, you (the MM), and in some buggy cases, your teammates. Minions with secondary abilities will prefer using them to attacking *most* of the time.
Agressive: The minion will attack anything within his perception range. (which is thankfully short, I'd rather have them not attack something then aggro something I didn't want the attention of) They'll also respond to attacks as per defensive mode. Minions with special abilities will prefer attacking to using special abilities.
I also think people are forgetting a major thorn in a MM's side PvE wise: Ambushes. These mobs prefer to attack you over the minions, especially if you let them see you first. Considering I'm a MM that prefers to let his pets attack, this is the only time I grab major aggro, and thanks to a modified verson of Sandolphan's MM keybinds, two keypresses will bring all of my guys into defensive mode, which gives all of them a chance to share the damage. Sounds good to me.
PS: For those of you who don't want to bother learning the commands/binds/whatever, switch the pet window to advanced mode, click the button all the way at the top (where it says 'All pets') set your pet to defensive mode, and then drag that button down to your power bar. It automaticly creates a macro button that will set all of your pets in defensive mode, and gives you a nifty shield picture macro to boot. To truely make this a 'bodyguard' macro, right click on the macro, hit edit, and add the word 'Follow' after 'Defensive'.
Edit: Logic fix.
