So, With The Introduction Of New Faces...

Issue 15 has announced that they will be created a host of new (and probably vastly-improved) faces for maximum character customization.

I think that this is a wonderful idea, considering how important a face really is. It's the thing human beings recognize easier than anything else on this planet!

But how about hair? Don't get me wrong, I love the hair we've got, and I love the hair that was given to us on... Issue 9? Issue 8? I can't quite remember, but the addition of a slew of new hairstyles made it a vast deal easier to customize our characters to our specifications.

My only request is for hair, now... Specifically, hair with hats.

My idea is that all hats should come with a default, short hairstyle coming down beneath them. Yes, it's a hair/hat thread, but this isn't just to change the color of hair via a third color option!

I'd like the ability to choose from different hairstyles while wearing hats, with styles and colors of their own. No hair, short hair, medium-length, long, very long, shaggy, dreads, etc.

I can't even begin to foresee how JLove would handle this. I imagine that the prototypes would be filled with clipping issues, but I feel that this would not only benefit the people that want a unique hair color beneath the hat, but those who find the hat section to be generally too limiting.

Thank you for reading.

Improved facial geometry, please.

Hats with hair can either be just a load of work, or flatly impossible, depending on how you want to see it. If you want every hat usable with every hairstyle, that just cannot be done, and even each hat with a dozen hairstyles is just out of the question. However, if you want just any options whatsoever, then having, say, three types of hair per hat - none, short, long - then it's just a matter of making a different hat variant for each hat/hair combination, and possibly tossing the combinations into sub-options for your current hat selection.

It's possible, and something I'd very much like to see, but I'm afraid it's so much work I wouldn't expect to see it ever. Which is a real shame.

I dunno, Soul Calibur's character creator seems to do a pretty good job of it.

Cannot be done easily, sure. But it's not impossible. If it was done poorly, it would make adding new hats a [censored], though.

Huh.

"Getting to the moon is impossible!"
"Well, no, you just need a very expensive rocket with some vital equipment..."
"Well, sure, if you get scientists together, and spend more time and money on it. But otherwise, it's impossible!"
"...You keep using that word. ...I do not think it means what you think it means."

*looks in her post to find the word "impossible".... hmm.... not finding it... not finding it...*

So, you just replied to my post without reading the preceding discussion -- even the part I quoted directly in my post? That's kinda silly.

Okay, quick recap:

Samuel_Tow said it was impossible. I said it wasn't, and gave an example. You suggested that that example doesn't count, because there was more money invested in it. I replied with a quick theoretical discussion that outlined the absurdity of objecting to the possibility of something via suggesting the conditions under which it is possible are irrelevant. You didn't get it, and I recapped the relevant parts of the thread in a short paragraph for your consumption.

So! We good?

City was made by some no-name schmucks, most of whom were on their first foray into making a game, and were building their own game engine, the same one which we are currently using, which by many developer comments has a lot of code that doesn't make much sense, isn't well documented, and breaks other things in attempts to change it.

Yes, it's true, I didn't say it was possible. But I didn't say it was impossible. I was just correcting your reference to Soul Calibur, because it doesn't really have a place here.

I said it was possible for a game to do. You objected.

There's no reason to suppose this isn't in the future of MMOs, and given that, it seems like something CoX would want to get in on. Character customization is one of its major relative strengths right now, and losing ground on that can only hurt it. Regardless of what the differences between existing studios who have done similar things in video games and Paragon Studios may be.

There are a finite number of attachment points on this game's character models. IIRC, they are all currently used for something or other. Changing that would require changing every single humanoid skeleton, just so you could have selectable hair with your hat.

I'm pretty sure they could think of a few other things to be added if they were redoing all of the skeletons.

I don't think that we will ever get decent hair with hats. I just don't.

I could even live with the hair we have now, if we could have the hair not HAVE to be the same color as color #2 on the hat. This right here is why my guy who needs the Baron hat isn't able to wear it; because his hair and color #2 on the rest of his costume are light-years away from each other. And coloring everything black just wipes out all of the beautiful detail on the Baron chapeau, so why bother...?

No one wears the Witch hats because of the same issue. The hat needs to match the rest of the costume. I am very specific on this point.

I would like to see different hair used for hats, and I'd like to see some masks wearable with some "makeup." Dont think I am gonna get either wish

You can already put costume pieces over hair.

I'm wearing a shirt right now.

Baby steps, people...

As Weatherby_Goode pointed out, once you get to a certain point, baby steps are no longer possible. You've reached the edge of the first canyon, and it's going to take a pretty big leap to go forwards.

I don't know for certain that this is that point, but I know it's there and that it can't be that far away.
