Technically its offering his interpretive opinion on published articles and deducing ideas from the wording / tone / corporate speak.

Making something up would be more attune to reading the articles and saying "As you can clearly see, ArenaNet after its association with NCSoft holds retreats to kick puppies and pull the whiskers off kittens"

I can understand wanting to wanting to defend something, but to do so by completely dismissing his logic chain (even with the jumps he made) doesn't really do anything to refute what he said.

A simple "I can see where you are coming from with your opinions, but that isn't the way I would have interpreted those articles. I feel this way about that" will likely get you further in a dicussion.

*edit* P.S. I'm pretty sure I also read ArenaNet plucks the feathers off baby ducks just for fun.

    Where to now?

The secret world seems to have a nice looking environment, some decent character creation and an interesting setting. Watching gameplay videos I'm a lot less excited about giving it a try. (Though I probably will anyway with some friends doing the same)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHdiBTeAiO8

Someone mentioned Vindictus earlier. Its free and definitely worth checking out if you enjoy some legitimately challenging PvE. (PvP isn't big in the game) Its fantasy setting, but rather than elves and fairies its set in a celtic background.

This is an early mission (maybe 4th or 5th) run on heroic, the highest difficulty. (Using twin spears)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDMJX...ature=youtu.be

And this would be a mid level boss on hard. (Using swords)

  3. You can still buy stuff on the store, I just purchased the barb shoulders last night on live.

It's going to suck if Bio is released and I can't buy more points to play it. Even with the game closing down, I'd spend money to play it for 3 months.
  4. I'd personally love to see a power suit "Epic" style AT (Khelds, soliders, etc) that would combine powers like Assault bots incindary missles, Praetorian clockwork chest cannons, and maybe a tier 9 similar to the WB nukes graphically. The secondary that combines defense powers (kinetic dampeners) and some basic resists (Impervium coated armor?).

For an inherent there would be a power cell bar that would drain over time improving aspects of certain abilities. A defensive stance would apply a slow steady drain from the toggles. For example Impervium coating might normally provide 10% Res all and would be buffed up to 20% res all. Kinetic dampeners providing 12.75% def s/l would bump up to 17%

Offensively you'd get all kinds of nifty little things. Heavy ST attacks gaining small TAoE's, light ST attacks getting dots and nukes would nuke your power cell bar and become even more nukey.

    Maybe for issue 52.
  5. CoH has been far from my only game/MMO as I tend to get around.

If nothing can be done to save City of Heroes I'll likely get my hero fix in Champions. I've had it installed for a while now, just never had a reason to get into it.

For any scrapper who ever loved solo'ing AV's? Consider looking into Vindictus. Its a F2P MMO that isn't pay2win. Soloing raid bosses in this game (for me) is like taking AV soloing to the next level. You have your build, your gear, and on top of that reaction time becomes a huge factor as rather than a fluid attack chain of 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 you are forced to actually duck, dodge, and position yourself to not get flattened. Here is a quick vid I did this afternoon against a mid level boss.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgMWi...ature=youtu.be

I have some friends bugging me to try out The Secret World so I'll probably give it a try.

Was looking forward to getting GW2 and trying it out, but now I'll hold off.

I have Diablo 3 but found the exceptionally bland "Get Main stat + vit + all res + Crit damage + crit chance" gear grind to be mind numbingly boring.
  6. Incarnate slots - What were they going to do?

Was there every any progress with Hero-1? Any chance he'd make any kind of return.

Mender Silos - Lord Nemisis connection? What info can you give us about ouroboros that we don't know.

In one of the allignment change missions Frostfire hints at (your character) becoming a god of sorts, a destroyer of worlds. Subsequently you fight supposed all power versions of yourself after you defeat him. Is Battalion, the coming storm or anything like that tied to what he was talking about.

Was the rikti threat ever going to be brought to some sort of conclusion? I feel like with incarnates and all that there was a potential end in sight. This might be in lore already, but what did they want?

Was there any plans to further the rularuu story? It felt like the bosses of the shadow shard trials were something similar to other comic's take on cosmic type beings. With paragon heroes reaching incarnate levels it seemed as though we'd be ready to face them.
  7. When new content is released (power sets and what not) I usuaully do anyway. So yeah that'd be fine.

    Not Goodbye

Some of my other favorite bugs were :

City of Heroes version of Mine Sweeper. I can't remember playing it in another map (other than my own), so maybe I figured it out? Who knows, like all farms it spread and eventually got fixed. You could spawn the arachnos flyer missiles as your base foe group, then a large as possible ambush of level 54 AV's. With a tank, drag them through the mine field and basically nuke them for XP in under a minute. I couldn't help but snicker at the constant explosion of hundreds of those things as you watched AV health plummet. It was even funnier watching some other people try it and getting nuked themselves.

Halloween Trick or Treat mobs not respecting the aggro cap. It brought back the good old days even it it took a while to build up the spawns.

http://www.wegame.com/watch/Elec_SD_Claws_SR/ (up until around 2:40 its just ToT'ing to herd things up)

No pics of this one but after the aggro cap was lowered to 17, there was a time where you could still break it with force bubble. I can remember herding up the hollows with it, fun times!

*edit* Oh! In PvP for the short time were blaster melee attacks would detoggle an insane amount of toggles. I can remember hitting stalkers with bone smasher, detoggling their mez protection and stunning them in the same instant, then blazing their face. The cries of "Blasters are OP" were hilarious from the most common vill character in zones who for the longest time had ET with a 50% stun and insane damage and TF with 100% stun and some nice damage. Suddenly blasters weren't the only ones who had to bring BF's to zone.

  11. First - Make another MMO, RPG, whatever with super heroes and I'll be there with a life type sub. City of heroes has yet to be rivaled in the MMO world in its ability to let your character actually feel super.

While other games have you focus on 1-4 bad guys, CoH had me diving into piles of 17. Want to solo that Champion by yourself? Go for it! Slug it out toe to toe, build for it, and you come out on top. The game was like a hack and slash dungeon crawler (set in modern times) on crack. Kinetics? Whoever designed this powerset should be a legend within the MMO industry as it let every player run around at super speed and jump tall buildings. Before I came to CoH you walked, you jogged, you sometimes jumped high enough to clear a small fence. After city of heroes, if it wasn't cranked up to 92 MPH run speed it felt sluggish.

The PvP in this game was and still is unrivaled in the MMO community. Nowhere else does it happen so fast in so large of an area. I've sat down with friends and explained "Imagine a 4 square mile underground cave, 16 players moving at 92 MPH, jumping 300+ feet at a time. Mix in insanse spike damage and amazing heals that if you were good, could essentially make you immortal. It truely was super powered combat.

Outside of the mechanics that made the game great, there was the story that I had fun playing along with for 8 years. After I played through that story who knows how many times, there was the option to create my own universe inside yours.

Off the top of my head, friends and I have run campaigns set in White Wolf's Vampire/Mage style universe. Zombie Apoc survivors. Hunter the Reckoning style monster hunters. Firefly's space theme. And plenty of our own super hero story lines. It was all made possible with the amazing base customiziation and the AE.

The saddest part is the game I love is closing down, the second saddest thing is there is no other game that matches it out there. Yet. Feel free to get moving on that one though.
  12. You guys were doing amazing work that incorporated player vision into your own. I was looking forward to revisting so many alts and redoing so many builds with the changes you had coming. (Along with rolling up all sorts of Bio toons.) Even though we'll never get to fully enjoy it, the hard work was appreciated!
  13. However it works out, I planned to sub for the next year so I can certainly put that towards saving the game if you are able to make any progress.

If you'd rather have another biased number, taking the 5000 sigs of interested players who'd like to see CoH go on vs. peak numbers of the top 100 games on steam. CoH would rank around 16th out of 100.

    PVP training

For judgement you want to go Pyronic (fastst animation) for interface, reactive is still probably the best. Destiny - incan is hard to beat. Lore probably northern lights. Hybrid I'd guess the double hit / damage one.

If you want, the option for a second build is always there for PvE. PvP and PVE operate very differently and have different build goals in mind. Most notably is the lack of personal defense (because defense in PvP does nothing for ranged characters) and the lack of AoE's as their damage is completely gutted in the PvP enviornment.

If its just to get the accolades and incarnates for the build, you really don't need a pve build for it. But if its something you regularly pve with then a second build is definitely a solid idea.

    PVP training

Is one key stroke announcing "Yes I'm locked on the Target" technically faster than hitting a key and saying "Locked" I'd guess yes. But in practice, as a target caller, its much easier to keep the pace of things going with audio cues for locks rather than visual since you already have a lot going on in that area as is. Its much easier to filter out enough "Called" locks than it is to try and follow chat scroll for the current target.

PVP, its very scientific like that.

    PVP training

    PvP training, lesson 1.

PvP is a team oriented enviroment. The worst players are often the first to challenge you to a 1 v 1 to prove they are better. 1 v 1's have 3 checks.

First, basic knowledge check. Do you know how to press 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 on a target as much as possible as fluidly as possible while following them around for 10 minutes. Do you know how and when to pop greens and use the least amount possible / hibernate / phase at the last possible safe moment? If so, move on to the build check. Do you have capped HP, damage procs, enough acc to hit your opponent, etc etc. If so, the final check is knowing your opponent and what he or she is capable of. Do they have a build you can beat? Some builds simply won't lose to other builds if the first two checks are made by both parties.

Knowing all this, Congratulations you are now a top tier duelist in CoH. The fourth final secret "check" to meet is the RNG check. Assuming your opponent is on the same skill level as you, has a build that is on the same level as yours its now up to random to hit rolls and random proc chances to see who wins. Which is why PvP in this game is team based.

As an additional note, within the current system, everything that makes for a strong team pvp'er carries over into what makes someone a strong duelist. However, starting out as a duelist nearly always leads to being a very poor team PvP'er.

With a Water/EM you seem to have chosen the role of damage dealer in a PvP setting.

As a damage dealer, your goal is to quickly tab onto the target that is announced by the target caller. The quickest way I've found to do this is rather than randomly hit tab, move your mouse (and by extension your screen) so that the target occupies as space that has as few other targets in it as possible. Next you wait for the spike count, as the count down begins, your goal is to close the gap on the target (as following them too soon will give away the spike) and put out as much damage as quickly as possible with the rest of the offense. While doing this, you must also watch your character as well to look for incoming spikes and run away accordingly. If and when you take damage, with practice you will learn how many (if any at all) greens you need to pop in order to survive with or with out heals from support characters on your team.

This concludes lesson one and the very basics of CoH PvP.

It may be worth considering, but it takes I think 2-3 minutes to ticket cap an AE map so conservatively 21 minutes run time, we'll say 25 by the time you load in / reset/ etc.

I'm pretty sure 1 freak map takes well over 25 minutes to clear and you can fit 2 - 3 ish runs of council into the same time frame.

The AE generates you 150+ uncommon and rare recipes in the range of your choice.

Council map usually nets me around 20 some recipes per run. These include commons, temp powers, costume pieces, but also purples, the chance for pool C dropps off bosses. (Also salvage)

The AE ends up generating you 4-5 times more recipes (that don't include commons and temp powers) at the cost of hitting the lotto with a good pool C drop or a purple. Even if you add in rare salvage as a "recipe" and count them as 2, in most cases you're still looking at the AE outpacing regular maps 3-1.

Not saying you should stop or change what you are doing, just how things have played out from my own experience trying both.
  24. It appears this league is drawing a lot of new faces to the Arena PvP crowd along with some familiar ones we've seen in the past. To give us a better at look at what we'll see in the upcomming league, a former CoH PVPer has decided to come out of retirment, not to PvP once more, but following a familiar route of many professional athletes i.e. becoming a PvP Commentator.

In the time leading up to the next PvP league, he has taken it upon himself to do an interview series of the captians, their strategies, expectations and plans for the upcomming league. (And asked me to post for him, since PvP forums aren't all access) Whether you're on a team or a weekend warrior watching from the comfort of your chair, tune in for this behind the scenes sneak peek of FREEDOM 5v5 LEAGUE 2012!!!
