Quote:I would think that common sense would suggest if it is indeed possible to have a build PvPIO'ed out in several months, have it taking 5+ years using A-Merits would mean the conversion rate for them is more than a little low. That's just me though. The OP posted an interesting analysis, and if that were the only way to get purples and PVP IOs, it would be a problem. It's not though. Purples and PVP IOs are available pretty freely on the markets, and it's ridiculously easy to make money in this game. Anyone with half a brain could have enough money to trick out a build with PVP IOs and purples in a few months, and that's without working hard at it (certainly much less work than getting all those A-Merits). If you put in the kind of time it would take you to earn that many A-Merits every day, I would venture that you could do it in as little as a month or two.
Yes, the game is focused around alts, not having uber-leet level 50s. There is no content that comes close to requiring builds like that. They're something you want, not something you need. If you needed them, I could perhaps agree with you that there was an issue, but you don't.
As for needing them, that is subjective. If I take my Psi/EM with 0 damage procs vs one with 3 glad javs and 1 apoc, I'm going to lose consistently if we are near the same level when it comes to ability. Its kind of like saying "You don't need to take travel powers to PvP" Sure you don't need them to enter a PvP zone/arena. But you're gonna get your *** handed too you pretty regularly. -
As an infinity native, leading up to and just after i13 my global list was slimmed down by about 2/3's as a good many people moved on to other games. Some have made it back for a short time only to leave again, but most have stayed away.
I tried a few times to get some KB's going for new PvP'ers and what not but you'd mostly see some scrappers show up.
Freedom is where you go to PvP in zones. During and just before the Freedom League it had some nice KB's ( 8 v 8's with 2 support on each side)
ATM Champion I'd say is where you'd go for Arena/KB style matches, though they are kickball in the true sense where lineups are screwy, support is sometimes onesided or non existent, but people are for the most part on vent and there is some semblance of spikes. (Even though sometimes it just gets to the point where you can spam enough damage to out heal what limited support there is) -
This is definitely a cop out response. Lets keep in mind we were talking 3 and a half years to slot out 24 out of 91 slots for a character. I look at my ill/emp build and it has 8 sets of PvP IO's and 2 sets of purples.
More than double the situation for the Psi/EM.
There is a difference between ultra rare being ultra rare and spending the better part of half a decade playing every day 5 missions a day to get the best gear for 1 character in a game that is focused around alts.
Quote:Which means if you're going to help me IO out my new corrupter for the Champ league, you don't have spare time to be making long-winded forum posts.
BACK TO THE SYNAPSE SALT MINE! -
I managed to transfer a few toons over on the last round of free transfers (to Champ). I think for now having it on the home server of a lot of the people would be a good start. Hopefully get a few rounds in with all the teams playing each other and see if there is any kind of desire to move it to test to incorporate more people into it.
(Personally I'd be all for test but I can see why some, especially the home server crowd might want to stay in familiar waters for now) -
What are your in-game Globals?: @MrLiberty
What builds are your PvP characters on Champion: Fire/EM Blaster, Sonic/Therm Corrupter
Transfer builds : If this league gets srs and actually pulls some 6 v 6 to 8 v 8's I'll start to transfer some stuff over. See Sig.
Are you willing to respec into a better PvP build?: If you are giving me the IO's sure.
Are you willing to roll a new character if needed?: No
Do you have a mic?: Yes
What is your general day/time availability?: Monday through Thursday after 9 or 10 PM est are best.
Briefly describe your PvP experience: I learned to PvP by fite clubbing people on my Mind/Rad in SC with no damage enhancments pre i13. Tru story. -
Yeah Saturday I won't be able to make it, Sunday should be good though.
Also is this a bad time to mention Psoma's plan?
"Hey guys, how gai do you want to be? Lets run Lib and Mebs on Therm, me and Pixel on Psi blasts" -
You n00bs are all wrong, there is no build to defeat regins. They are unbetable.
-
Yeah I know there are easier ways to go about actually getting them that require much less effort. This system however allows us a little glimpse into what the devs feel is an acceptable rate to IO out a build for PvP. (Well at least 4 attacks)
-
So I finally started to grind out some hero merits (because hey there isn't much to do).
1 Hero merit = 11 tip missions or 50 Merits + 20 million influence (Can get 50 merits from Synapse I think which can be run in about an hour to hour and a half). Can earn one once every 20 or 24 hours.
1 Piece of Glad Jav set = 25-30 Hero Merits
1 Full set = 165 Merits
5 Pieces of Apoc = 100 Merits
Say you are looking at a Psi/EM 3 sets of glad javs + 1 set of apocs.
(3 x 165) + 100 = 595 hero merits to have your standard range offensive toon slotted out for PvP.
To be able to do that you'd also need 11.9 Billion influence (if you are converting normal merits) and run the Synapse TF around 600 times. Or you would need to do 6,545 tip missions.
You would need to do the Synapse TF every day for over a year and a half. (Synapse TF is 15 missions long though some are deliveries. Either way adds up to 9,000 missions)
You can only get 5 tips per day, taking you 2 days to earn a hero merit that way. Off tips alone you would need to do 5 missions 1 day, 6 the next and after 3 and a quarter years you'd have your blaster's main attacks PvPIO/Purpled out.
Awesome. -
Imagine if the PvP community received the PvP equivalent of Animated Tails, Slow Walking, and all the stuff in the party pack. I'd be in Pocket D right now doing the equivalent of cybering my brains out with a catgirl or some ****.

Probably because even without HD and TS, randomly damage spamming people for 10 minutes isn't fun.
In a FFA support and disruption toons have no place and its who ever can kill steal and injured target the quickest.
If you join up to a random say 5 v 5 to 8 v 8 its going to be unbalanced in almost every case. If you look at kickball, its seldom you actually get a *close* match instead its usually one team stomping another, whether its because of lack of support or too much support vs damage or someone just joined up on a really farmable toon and basically gets cycled every time they respawn. -
Out of the first list, Rad/Therm, Emp/Psi (for Arena Emping, is there any other kind?) Spines/WP stalk.
Second list : Dark/Cold and that's about all I'd put influence into. Maybe an Ill/Therm?
Oh and Thugs/Storm if you have other MM players because that is just fun. -
Probably not the best build, just threw it together quick but 30% Melee defense to start then shadowmeld for when things get rough. With the recharge it'll be up around half the time just about softcapping your scrapper to everything.

Just an FYI if you fit powerboost into your build and started power boosting ring of fire and flashfire you'd see how stupidly good Mez can actually be. Yeah you can't just stack ST holds to perma hold someone once they run out of BF's anymore, but on the other side of things... if someone has a long duration PB mez there is nothing you can really do to get out of it unless you have a support toon behind you stacking CM's or CM equivalents, even then there is plenty of time to get dropped. And bringing break free's doesn't really do much considering 1 CM gives like 5 BF's worth of mez resistance (maybe 4).

I think I saw you in RV the other night, with fire mastery and all. HP was way too low and don't think you had phase either.

Fire Blaster Chain of Blaze, Flares, Blast, Flares
Psi Blaster Chain of Will Dom, Psi Dart, TK, Psi Dart.
Animation times : Fire 4.67 Psi 4.1 seconds
Psi Damage : 460.7
Fire Damage min with no DoT's : 468.4
With Avg DoT : 554.9
With Max DoT : 576.5
At the absolute low Psi > Fire for damage vs activation time but most DoT's on fire have an 80% chance for the first tic and with that it pulls ahead.
Psi of course has its advantages, you can still slot that broken placate proc I think and it can slot 1 extra damage proc across the chain. (2 in Psi Dart vs 2 in Flares, 1 in Will Dom vs 1 in Blaze, 2 in TK blast vs 1 in Fire blast)
Fire is nice for the chance for hold proc which is still unresisted I think, where with Psi blast you can still run it, but risk messing with mez suppression from will dom.
Psi's illusion of more damage comes from Will Dom/Dart/TK all hitting at about the same time but the psi blaster spends about the same amount of time in animation (actually attacking) as the fire blaster for less overall damage.
*Edit* I took a look at both of my blasters when they are all slotted up, the max damage with all the procs you are going to see from a Psi Blaster with no Aim/BU is 1551.7
From the Fire Blaster its going to top out at 1967.3
Keeping in mind you'll never *really* hit that hard with base resists and all but more is pretty much more. Basically fire has a better chance of out DPS'ing someones ability to heal while Psi creates a cleaner spike thanks to varied projectile speed. -
I really don't think Mac was trolling you there, what you said about Psi Blast and Stalker AS is pretty much blatantly false.
Fire blasters still out damage psi blasters in the 4 second spike window, its just Fire does its damage over 3-4 seconds where with projectile speed Psi creates a mini spike where it gets 3 packets of damage landing at once plus one follow up meaning generally all the damage is coming in over 1-2 seconds (Even though you spend the same 4-5 seconds animating attacks.
The biggest thing Psi has going for it is 4 attacks from 80 foot range (most people only use 3 of those as mental roots forever) Their animations are fast but the damage is in line with animation and recharge time.
Just look at the damage/recharge/activation times of Will Dom, TK, Blazing Arrow, and Bitter Ice Blast.
All have 80 foot range.
Blazing arrow 10 second recharge, 1.83 animation, 199.2 damage (w/ DoT)
Will Dom 20 Second Recharge, 1.1 animation 151.5 damage
TK blast 10 second recharge, 1 animation, 115.4 damage
BiB 12 second recharge, 1.07 Animation, 125.3 damage.
Psi Dart and Mental blast are standardized across pretty much all blaster sets that run on the 4 second tier 1 recharge and 8 second tier 2 recharge.
Stalker AS as it is right now is pretty much a joke. You need a double BU AS to drop most squishies that are built well (Read near 1600 HP) you need those AS'es to land within about a second of each other, otherwise the target can be healed, pop greens, phase, hibe, etc. You need to coordinate and land those AS'es within a 10 second build up window otherwise you aren't going to kill a 1600 HP squishy with a res shield.
One AS will take 50% or Less of a well built target, in most cases you can simply do more damage by going BU Shark/Placate/Shark. You get to do it from 80+ feet and doesn't require you to land an interruptable melee attack that can be greatly effected by the smallest amount of server lag (against targets who know how to actually move)
Some of what you said with HD and TS and things like that, yeah they need looked at. But the suggestions about stalkers and psi blasters come off more like someone who has been beat by them and doesn't quiet understand the mechanics involved.
The Reg date thing, it was an assumption that ended up being wrong, but I think given your comments on Psi blasters and Stalkers it was a semi safe assumption on his part. -
Cool! Thanks very much for clearing everything up! I've got Fire/SS and Fire/EM tanks atm so I'll probably go for all out damage with the MA/Fire scrapper.
-
So looking to roll up a new melee toon specifically another Fiery Aura character. I have it narrowed down to a MA/Fire scrapper or a Stone/Fire brute. I'm not 100% up to date on the brute changes, I was thinking they got their base res mods raised or something but when I checked in game fire shield was a 22.5% res for both AT's. So whats the deal with that?
Also, with the fury changes where does that put scrappers vs brutes for damage assuming you are sitting around 50% fury?
Survivability wise both builds I've gotten to around 30-35% S/L/Melee defense the big difference is the brute has fault, the scrapper shadow meld (which will softcap everything else)
So I guess the question is, damage? How's it looking. And survivability, do brutes get anything more than a higher base HP than the scrapper? -
Having both colds and a FF'er at 50 its no comparison.
As someone who leads teams, I'd take the cold.
As someone joins teams, when asked what I should bring. Its the cold. Always.
I'd personally take an average played cold over the best played FF'er in the game on a team. If they can toss out some shields, even it if takes a reminder and drop sleet and heatloss they are already ahead of the FF'er no matter how creatively they use force bolt, repulsion bomb and force bubble.
Does that mean if a friend says "Hey I'ma bring my bubbler" I'd say no? Of course not, play what you want. -
Their timing speaks volumes.
"Alright, the last of the test teams have withdrawn for now."
"So I can flip the switch back on?"
"Sure why not."
Know it isn't exactly like that, but hey we held out like 3 months. In MMO/Game time that's an eternity. -
Can't speak for all of dUmb but I know a handful of us moved or stripped a good many of our toons to run in the Champion ladder after the league ended and the test ladder fizzled out.
I have a Stalker, Emp and Psi/EM (that is missing a set of apocs and 3 glad javs) if anyone wants to try for another team. -
I'm pretty terrible at 2 v 2's but if I can sucker a partner into it and get away from left 4 dead 2 I'd run some 2 v 2's with whoever for whatever reason.
-
Fire/EM is still good outside of Arena 8 v 8's where Psi/EM's are better because of the mini spike in damage they create with the projectile speed variation of Will Dom, Psi Dart and TK blast.
This is what I run on mine on live atm.
