  1. I agree with both of you.

    Still, It made me feel guilty about logging on for duty tonight. Gotta be that rat pushing the pedal for random chance of in-game treats. Gimme reward NCsoft... GIMME REWARD !!!.

    Oh god, I'm addicted aren't I. - I'm off to bed, Nn.
  2. I honestly don't think these endeavours are thought through correctly by tech-wizards such as Lucas. Just because a CGI-model potentially looks just like a famous actor or actress, that does not mean the performance will be any good.

    Where is the translation and actor's take on a role going to come from?, because thats the talent that comes direct from the actor's imagination. Thats not replicated along with their likeness, so basically all you have is an empty husk.
    That husk maybe ok for walk-on silent parts like Arnie in T:Salvation, but what about a De-Niro or Pacino performance of a new role in a new film?, or is this tech supposed to be the holy grail to ensure sequel performances?.

    I think this is what Lucas' plan is with licences like Indiana Jones which has enough of Ford's performance in the role for an animator to potentially extrapolate a horrible frankenstein-like CGI performance for many more sequels.
  3. Yes, Personally its purely about the time invested in rolling another toon up to 50 without going the boring farming XP route (which is just not gonna happen).
  4. Thats a great clip NinjaPirate, I'd forgotton all about the great work Rhythm & Hues pioneered with that. Theres a slightly better quality clip here where you can read the subtitles as they come up explaining the process.

    But yeah... as clever as this is (as the saying goes), Just because you can do something - doesn't necessarily mean you should.
    Jeff bridges has already been quoted as saying this technology is great because it means he can continue to act without putting any effort in other than giving his consent and reaping in the royalties. Although personally I think the youthful Jeff in Tron:Legacy is shockingly bad cgi and jars with the scene in the real world settings in the clips i've seen.
  5. I agree its definately the social aspect of an established community in an MMO structure that keeps people dropping-by in-game, even when potentially any game content itself is thinning.
  6. "I say old-bean... Marquess of Queensbury rules!, good show old man!".

    lol@ Gentleman Mint. An inspired art project superbly executed. Thanks for the link.

    Heheh, Nice! - that should be on a t-shirt!.

    Oh and a convincing CGI in-their-prime double is one thing (and i'm not sure even Arnie in T:Salvation qualifies as that) - but CGI-acting?.... thats quite another thing!.

    [EDIT]: Thinking about it... The only way this could yield anything remotely good performance-wise, was if you went the Avatar-tech route and mo-capped the actors faces to drive the CGI faces, but then i suppose the actor playing them would have to do a reasonable 'homage' or 'impression' performance?.
  8. I agree with your latter comment, but;

    As in, once, forever, on a given account? That's pretty bad too, to be perfectly honest.
    Why is a one time change bad?, Ok then lets change it from one-time account to one-time toon change and limited to that slot.
    I'd play my refeshed concept scrapper far more. Unfortunately when i made him back in 2005 there was no willpower, there was no kinetic melee.
  9. Oh.My.God.

    Hel-lo? - DC Comics.... Jewellry. How can they of missed out an Emerald Green Lantern ring?.

    I quite like the style of some of the stuff (not that i could or ever would wear any of it), but I think they are purposely going for a fashionista type of chavy-bling. The WW-stuff is indicative of that I think.
  10. Because some people are against this as a feature because it could be abused?. Because it could lead to laziness in trying and playing another AT up to level 50?.

    Thats why i said 'one-time-account purchase'. Are you saying you would like to use such a feature or have no interest in the suggestion?.
  11. I agree totally!, thats why the link goes to the twitter-stream... apparently some reviewers (notably game-industry professionals) have had an advance-viewing and according to them its a knee-jerk scaremongering job!.

    We'll have to wait and see. I think it focuses on one kid and WoW, but hopefully they'll take a broader view of the MMO scene.
  12. While I understand that (in my opinion) perhaps this should not be a game feature like it is in the other Superhero MMO (perhaps because of this MMO's team-based archetypal role structure), I find myself wondering; "You know what.... I really would play my Scrapper more if i could do a one-time-respec of his powersets out of MA/SR and into some combination involving Kinetic Melee or willpower!" (which is how I originally conceived the toon).

    Please consider adding this as a one-time account paid-for store purchase ability.

    Thanks.
  13. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be… unnatural."

    (apparently he's been at this for a while, must be some kinda masterplan George!).

  14. Chris Nolan hands in the script today to the Studio for 'The Dark Knight Rises' - or as he has said "He is in big trouble!".

    What are they gonna do?, fire him?
  15. Tonight's BBC Panorama 'Addicted to Games' focuses on MMO addiction and the youngsters that describe that their gameplaying is an obsessive addiction.

    BBC1: 8:30pm-9pm.
  16. What do you mean 'meat' ET?

    ...and I'm not sure how I feel about scientists playing around with homegrown Alien lifeforms with deadly bacteria for innards - Last time I watched Alien Resurrection it did not end well.

    I hope there is more to this NASA announcement personally.
  17. Great fun raid, very few deaths and it lasted a long long time. In fact it went on so long I burnt my dinner - still, wouldn't have it any other way. Thanks Soul, Gj all.
  18. Having been away a year I've noticed a whole swathe of new effects in-game.
    In that particular mission you mention, out of curiosity I jumped through the holgraphic tech displays down low in the pit in the room before you find the Honouree and they made a lovely warbly noise as if you've just interrupted the flow of data.

    Whatever made you say that?, you're awfully quick to roll over! - maybe they've probed Uranus.

    Looking forward to Thursday's announcement!, although when I think about it I think I held onto several newspapers for the longest time when the headlines read 'Life found on Mars !"... and then it was disproved a little so i binned them.
  20. Happy Birthday FloatingFatMan !. - Have a great time!.
  21. I recognise a few of these characters from the World Superhero Registry, It seems this new site is a glossier version.

    I think EVE will slowly evolve into having more spacestation and some planet-side content after seeing all this work on avatars. That is some seriously impressive tech!, and don't forget back in March they showcased their incredible cloth and hair dynamics.
  23. I don't know what all the fuss is about. Thats probably the most understated Dekotora vehicle i have ever seen, It'll blend right in.
  24. Still not wild about the suit.

    There are a couple of things i'm not sure what i'm looking at in the trailer;
    First off, Abin Sur's ship is wild, that is one great Alien-looking ship design!.

    At 1:08-1:09 I'm looking along the hull of something.... what is it?

    At 1:14-1:15 there is a gyroscopic ball of what looks like glass and it transfers Abin Sur into the ship via GL power... is that right?.

    At 1:20-1:23 this same capsule shoots up an octagonal-walled spiked pylon and breaks through the end cap breaking it off and shooting into the air like some kind of escape pod?
  25. Wow, this things really moving along nicely. The progress towards The Incredilble Hulk TV show;
    Quote:
    Marvel is swinging for the fences with its first live-action television project since being acquired by Disney, putting forth a new TV incarnation of the incredible Hulk devised by two fairly exciting names: Gullermo del Toro, the director of the Hellboy movies, Pan's Labyrinth, and Blade II; and David Eick, an executive producer of Battlestar Galactica and creator of the spinoff, Battlestar Galactcia: Blood & Chrome. The pair will co-create the new Hulk series and co-write its pilot episode, which del Toro may direct if he's available. The show is expected to debut on Disney-owned ABC sometime in 2012, after the release of Marvel's The Avengers movie, which also features the Hulk.

    The Hulk TV news comes courtesy of Deadline, who also report that Hulk alter-ego will be younger than in recent versions -- more like mid-twenties -- and "less reactive and more energized, as the world is still his oyster." It's too early to talk casting, but the star of this Hulk TV show will be the fourth actor in eight years to portray the Green Goliath.

    As for the depiction of the Hulk himself, Deadline wrote that the creature will be somewhat reimagined by del Toro, who is of course a monster fetishist of the highest order, having recently overseen designs for Peter Jackson's forthcoming The Hobbit films based on the book by J.R.R. Tolkien. Unlike the character's appearances in the most recent Hulk films, where he was 100% CGI, del Toro's beast will be a mixture of prosthetics, puppetry and computer tricks.
