Steel Canyon IS our own level range zone. It's also the same level range zone as Skyway City is.
  2. Thank you for the comments

Any particular bits you can point out, Ravenswing? I like constructive criticism, it allows me to improve (hopefully) before I start on NaNo this year

    One problem though.

Every character I played yesterday who got the Ostentatious badge got it on a Trick. Very odd.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I got Fashionable and Ostentatious on Trick doors. Thought it was just me getting confused at the time!
  4. No lag in any of the zombie invasions I've been in so far. Only thing annoying me about this event is (already) the number of selfish, greedy people clicking on doors and running away from their tricks instead of clearing them up. (Don't they know there's badges for that?) But then, that happened last year too.
  5. Zombies! They're everywhere!!!
  6. I've been trick or treating since about half past five but there's been no sign of a zombie invasion for four hours so I'm going back to bed.
  7. (Some aspects of this story have been purposefully left mysterious - I plan to try and write further stories for this character in the future but I doubt I'll get around to it until at least December. Feedback will be appreciated.)

The sunlight shone through the blinds, lighting up the library in golden shafts. Inside all was quiet, bar the odd cough, the rustle of turning pages, and the gentle tapping of computer keyboards.

The door burst open, and two girls burst in giggling loudly. The librarian looked at them over her horn-rimmed glasses and shushed them. They giggled again, and put their fingers to their lips in mock seriousness. Tina Edwards looked up from her screen and beckoned them over.

"You guys, are you, like, totally incapable of behaving yourselves?!" she whispered to them, trying not to burst into laughter herself.

Her best friend Hannah smiled as she perched on the corner of the desk, flicking her long blonde hair back over her shoulder. "You know we are, T. So what are y'up to?"

Tina grimaced and gestured at the computer and the pile of open books next to it. "Essay. Due tomorrow. And if I don't finish it, the Professor's gonna fail me."

"Ouch," Lily leaned over Tina's shoulder and turned over one of the books to look at the title. "You gonna be stuck here a while, then?"

Tina sighed. "Yeah. You guys go on without me, I'll try to meet you later, okay?"

"Okay," Hannah stood up a little reluctantly. "Just don't sit here staring at that screen all night, hon, or you'll go blind!"

Tina waved half-heartedly as Lily and Hannah left, wishing that she hadn't left the essay to the last minute, as usual. She rubbed her eyes and looked back at the screen.

"Just another fifteen hundred words..." she muttered to herself as she put her fingers back on the keys.

An hour later, her essay finished and printed off, she picked up her books and left the library. She stopped in the university lobby to put her headphones on and turn her MP3 player on. Hugging her books to her chest, and nodding slightly to the beat of her music, she set off towards the monorail station. She walked quickly and confidently, keeping a wary eye out ahead of her for Outcast thugs and the ubiquitous Council recruiters. She paused near the Vault to turn the volume up on her favourite song, and didn't hear the van pull up behind her. She was, in fact, completely unaware of it until strong hands grabbed her shoulders, a hood was pulled over her head, and she was bundled into the back.

Paragon City Post- Wednesday 16th July.

Student Missing, Police Fear Foul Play

Paragon City Police Department are investigating the disappearance of a young Paragon City University student, last seen on Monday. Tina Edwards, 17, was recorded on CCTV leaving the Steel Canyon campus at approximately seven pm, and has not been seen since. Textbooks checked out in her name were found in the street, near to tyre marks which are believed to be from a grey van seen in the area, which police are keen to trace.

Miss Edwards is of average height, with blonde shoulder-length hair, and was last seen wearing black trousers and a green T-shirt. Anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen her is encouraged to contact Detective Rogers on 555-100-2498.

    ---------------

Grass. It felt like grass, underneath her hands. She lay still in darkness, wondering where she was, before suddenly realising that her hands and feet were no longer bound. Moving her hands slowly, afraid she would be stopped, she tugged at the cords that tied the hood over her head and finally pulled it away. The light was dazzling, so bright that she could see nothing through it. She winced, blinked, and rubbed her eyes. Nothing changed. She groped around in the dazzling light, moved her head this way and that, and finally found form in the whiteness- a faint grey shape. She crawled towards it and it grew more solid, and darker, and eventually took shape as a tree. Whimpering slightly, she curled up in it's shadow and covered her eyes with her hands, trying to block out the brightness. Around her, she could hear the sound of traffic.

A voice cut through the pain in her head.

    "Sergeant! Over here!"

She peeped through her fingers and winced again at the light. There was a figure- undoubtedly a person- coming towards her. She pushed herself back against the tree, trembling. Behind the first figure, a second one appeared.

"Miss? Don't be afraid, we're from Longbow. How did you get here?"

"L..l...Longbow? Where... where am I? Why can't I see?" Her voice shook as she began to panic.

A reassuring hand gently touched her shoulder. "Don't worry miss, we're going to take care of you. You're in Galaxy City, do you know where that is?"

She swallowed hard, her mouth dry. She felt like crying but the tears wouldn't come. The light around her started to take on colours in vague forms, and her hands tingled in a way she'd never felt before. She nodded and sniffed.

"Okay, miss, we're going to take you over to the hospital, it's not far. Don't be afraid."

With a flash, the shadow of the tree disappeared, and the sound of the traffic stopped. She felt as if her heart had leaped up into her throat, and gasped slightly.

"Shh, it's okay miss, we just teleported you to the hospital. The doctors here are going to take care of you."

She put her hand up to touch the Longbow who had brought her here and suddenly gasped. The strangest sensation flooded through her, from her fingertips. It was like tasting a colour. She felt like she was spinning, and lights and shadows whirled around her. She closed her eyes and slipped to the floor in a faint.

    ---------------

The room was decorated in pretty pastel colours, with cheerful pictures of flowers on the wall and comfortable chairs. The middle-aged blonde woman standing by the window chewing her fingernails didn't look cheered up or comfortable, and as the door opened she turned around quickly, worry painted all over her face.

"Mrs Edwards, I'm Doctor Allcome, would you like to take a seat?" The doctor gestured at the chair next to his as he sat down, smiling encouragingly. Mrs Edwards sat down quickly, leaning forward and looking at him intently for some clue.

"How is my Tina? What's happened to her? Why won't they let me see her?"

The doctor looked down at the charts in his hand briefly. "Tina is, to all standards, perfectly healthy, Mrs Edwards. On that count, you don't need to worry at all, she's in no danger. However..."

The woman gasped sharply. "What do you mean, however? What has happened to my daughter?"

The doctor put his hand over hers gently. "To be honest, Mrs Edwards, we don't know what happened to Tina. It doesn't seem to be medical at all. We are calling in experts from Freedom Corps, they may be able to tell us more. Now, Tina has been asking for you, and I am going to take you to see her, but you have to be prepared for what you're going to see. She looks.. rather different."

Mrs Edwards stared at him, silently. Her mouth moved, but she couldn't frame the question.

"It's best that I take you to her, rather than try to explain. I just want you to be ready."

They left the waiting room and walked down the clean corridors of Cygnus Medical Center to the private room where Tina was being treated.

Doctor Allsome put his hand on the door handle and looked at Tina's mother. Looking nervous, she nodded, and he opened the door. Inside, Tina lay on the bed, her eyes closed. Her long hair was spread out across the pillow in a bright green cascade.

"Oh my...." Mrs Edwards gasped slightly, and hesitated for just a moment in the doorway before rushing forwards and sitting in the chair next to her daughter's bed. She reached out to tuck Tina's hair behind her ear and gasped again.

"Her ears! They're like.. like an elf or something," she whispered.

In the bed, Tina stirred. Without opening her eyes, she turned her head towards her mother. "Mom? Is that you?"

Her mother nodded. "Yes honey, I'm here..." She frowned a little. "Why won't you look at me, honey?"

In the corner of the room the doctor cleared his throat. Mrs Edwards turned to look at him.

"There are a few things that we have been able to establish for certain. One of them is that Tina is now effectively blind, by normal standards. She can perceive shadows and... well, she appears to have some new senses and abilities, which is something that we hope one of the Freedom Corps specialists can help us with. We ran tests on her hair, and it seems to be composed mostly of Farvesium, a chemical which is usually only ever encountered as a trace element. That would explain the green colour. How that happened, well we still don't know."

Mrs Edwards put one hand over her mouth, and with the other hand stroked her daughter's bright green hair.

"Abilities," she whispered. "Freedom Corps... You mean... my daughter could be like... one of those heroes?"

Why do people insist on asking the same questions over and over?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'm sure you've asked that same question before...

    Never!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. No, for all the reasons given in the OP's last version of this thread in July.

Why do people insist on asking the same questions over and over?

    NaNoWriMo

I have now decided on my main plot, and on two "back-up" plots in case I run into insurmountable difficulties with the first one. None of them are CoH related, though.

If anybody wants to look me up on the NaNoWriMo site, I'm morganafiolett there (surprisingly enough...)

I would be tempted if I wasn't doing NaNoWriMo!

    NaNoWriMo

I only hit the 50k last year through a cunning tactic of planning to write nonsense; thus it didn't really matter that what I was writing was unreadably silly, it was just a matter of putting words down. With that successful 50k behind me, I now know that I can write that number of words, so I'm looking to improve it by writing that number of words, but less daft.

Also helps that I've booked the first week off work, so I have nine full days in which to be A Writer.

    NaNoWriMo

Yes, this will be my third NanoWriMo year. First year was meticulously planned but fell apart at around 26k. Second year was a silly story based on dozens of dares, but which did reach the magical 50k. This year I plan to try and write something more sensible, but first I have to narrow down my options- I've got seven ideas (one of which is CoX based) and can't decide which to use!

Vox Doom is unable to function without Morgana's Empath Ibuprofen around.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Said empath was also my first level 50. I play her as a pacifist (a whole two attack powers, in case of emergencies) and haven't ever felt useless.
  15. Me and Vox both have Sonic/Dev blasters...

Sonic Shields/Psychic Blast Defender. Never seen one.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've got one (Although the powerset is actually called Sonic Resonance )

EDIT- Oh yeah, I also have a Trick Arrows/Archery defender and a Ninjas/Trick Arrow mastermind
  17. I think I have over 75 characters at the moment (across two accounts and both Union and Defiant). I personally will appreciate that little bit of an extra boost the less-played characters would get.
  18. I don't know but it wouldn't let me call my wraith Ralph either! I had to use Ralf instead
  19. I would be interested, and I have a wide range of characters to bring! :P Also, I'm pretty sure Vox would be interested, the main reason he doesn't RP much at GG/PD is because he doesn't like standing around when there's a world to save/take over.
  20. No, the free months are included- I have 2 years 3 months paid but 2 years 6 months on the veteran rewards.
  21. I like the stories posted so far... makes me nervous about posting mine. But, I am likely to be out of the game for a while after this weekend, as we're moving and still don't have our broadband set up so may not get a chance to post it later.

So anyway, here is my story. It's untitled still, I hate coming up with titles sometimes....

    ----

A child ran through the forest, branches whipping through her hair and stinging her face, until she reached the gentle slopes at the foot of the hill. There, she flung herself down onto her knees and called out in desperation.

"Brigid! Please hear me! My mother..."

The girl broke down in tears, burying her head in the soft grass as she wept. As if in sympathy, the clouds darkened and rain began to fall.

Still sobbing, the young girl sat up. Her head bowed and her eyes closed against the tears, she clasped her hands together and began to whisper a prayer.

"Brigid, you were a voice for the wounded and the weary. Strengthen what is weak within us. Calm us into a quietness that heals and listens..."

With the faintest sound, like a candle flame springing to life, a tall red-haired woman appeared as if she had stepped out of the hill itself.

    "Hush, child."

The girl gasped and looked up, hope chasing the tears away.

"Oh, Brigid! I knew that you would hear me!"

Silently, the woman knelt and wrapped her thick red cloak around the girl.

"They said that you were leaving, Brigid. That you'd help us no more. I knew they were wrong..."

Brigid shook her head sadly. "They weren't wrong, Deirdre. The last of my people are leaving even as we speak. The doors in the hills are closing. Ireland's not what it once was, and my kind aren't welcome any more."

"That's not true, Brigid!" Deirdre turned to look straight up at Brigid as she cried out. "We all know that you're nothing but good for us. You're always welcome in our home!"

With a sigh and a smile, Brigid guided Deirdre to her feet. "Your home, perhaps. But your home is just one of many in the village, and your village only one of many in Ireland. Most doors are now closed to me. Your people no longer understand us. They see us stay youthful as they age, and they fear us." She put her finger gently on the girl's lips to stall a further outburst. "Don't think I'm willingly abandoning you, now, for I'll not do that. I would never do that."

Tears began to appear again in Deirdre's eyes. "But my mother..."

"I heard you, Deirdre. Don't fret so. Your mother will live a long and hearty life. Run straight home now, and wrap my cloak around her. In the morning, make a tea from the yellow flowers that grow by your gate, just as I showed you last time. Make sure she drinks it all, and she'll be well in no time."

Deirdre nodded slowly. "I'll not see you again, will I?"

Sadness darkened Brigid's eyes as she looked back. The sun was beginning to set over the hills as she shook her head.

    "Run on home, now, Deirdre."

The girl tugged Brigid's cloak tightly around her shoulders as she ran off. As she reached the forest edge she turned to call back, "I'll keep a flame burning for you, Brigid. Forever!"

Brigid stood at the foot of her hill with her head bowed. Her sisters, one dark-haired and one golden-haired, came out of the hill to stand beside her.

"It is time for us to leave," they whispered. Brigid shook her head.

"I think I'll stay, my sisters. I'm not done with this world, and they need me yet."

The dark haired woman frowned. "They do not want you, Brigid. They have new gods and there is no room for our kind."

"Then I will sleep here, under the hill, until there is room once more. They will want healers such as I one day, that much I know. When I'm wanted, I shall awake and return to the world."

The golden-haired woman nodded and smiled. "So be it, then."

As the sun set behind the hills, the three sisters passed together into the hill one last time.

Under the hill, as the years stretched into decades and then into centuries, Brigid dreamed of the world she would one day discover. She dreamed of friends becoming enemies, of wars and unfamiliar machines which roared and coughed smoke and death. She dreamed of magic, of sorcerors from the east, behemoths in deep caverns and the rise of ancient mystics, and finally she dreamed of a wondrous city to the west, a city where hope stood firm against the minions of evil, a paragon city which she would one day call home.

    A city of heroes.
  22. Damn. I'd love to get involved but I expect to be net-less from this time next week for an unspecified period
  23. Gah! I really want to read the other entries!

@Vox: your name: Vox_Doom : Vox = voice , Doom well, doom, probably not a hugely massive leap to assume its in the genitive case meaning "of doom". (technically it should be something closer to vox_fati but my latin is a bit rusty). I was making a joke on the fact that you were among the first to cry DOOOOOOOOM! at the suggestion.

    [/ QUOTE ]

He's called Vox Doom because his main character of the same name is a Sonic Blaster. End of. You're really just jumping to strange conclusions there.

Anyway, no matter how it worked, I'd most likely be off with my two subscriptions if there was world PVP too.

In your description, a villain could go to Atlas, not doing his mission, wandering up to heroes and going "Yah Boo Sucks To You!" without them being able to do anything about it. That pretty much ruins the RP environment for me...
