Interested in a low-key plot arc?

Once upon a time, a long time ago I attempted to run a plot with a load of investigation in it. Sadly, a lot of grandstanding resulted in adding to the reasons I quit the game, but I'm a sucker for punishment and some people really liked it so...

Would people be interested in me running a plot which would involve some set piece scenes played out in game, maybe some 'hijacked' missions so we could beat up real bad guys, and a lot of investigative work which would be handled through the forums and PMs?

It's really suited for characters with a detective or investigative bent, not uber-godlike beings from beyond space and time. (And this time I'm going to crack down on the grandstanding so people like that can actually have some fun rather than watching someone take over the missions )

Time required would be a few hours on a string of evenings spread over a few weeks, and some time to think about what your characters will be doing to investigate the 'crimes,' or whatever it is I'm going to have happen.

The primary opening of this will likely happen at GG, but non-GGers are welcome to take part, so long as they can cope with being around the GG crowd. I can arrange for non-GGers to be contacted to be pulled into the plot if going near GG makes your virtual skin crawl.

I would probably be aiming to kick this off next week, but exact timing is subject to interest and availability.

What do people think?

If Kata survives the Freak out plot then count her in.

If not... then I have some other non-uber characters with dreams of being the next Jessica Fletcher!

You didn't take over the last plot.

Hiya, Gid.

Levels: Any. The main requirement is not to roleplay being the be-all and end-all of all heroes. From a practical standpoint, I'd say having some form of travel power and being level 10 or more would be a good idea. The hero I'll be using to 'run' the plot through just hit level 20.

And, obviously, someone with an invesrigative bent is likely to be more successful in uncovering the plot than a "hit it 'til it stops twitching" hero.

i have a character that is played low powered , normally RPed as if he works with normals .. Kin/dark defender he does have good conections to military intel agencies which might be unwanted by the plot ..and another who has extensive sneaky powers ment/storm controller both are in the 20 to 30 level range ... and i have a ton of ten ish alts .. (atlites .... save me )

@Wild_Red: If you can find your Sherlock, it'll work. Frankly, I try to find something for everyone to do in any given plot. Maybe not all the time, but at least some of the time.

I expect people to be able to draft in their "all guns blazing" friends for the finale.

@Rock_Powerfist: Having not written the plot yet, I can't say whether the military links would cause problems. So long as he doesn't invite the army in to seal off the area when something happens, it should be fine. Particularly since I've been warned and can plot around it. The GM charcater (so to speak) for this is linked into the PPD with a stupid level of security clearance, so I doubt military intelligence will pose a greater threat.

Problems mostly arise from uber-mindreaders, time travellers, and people with more resources than God.

he would not call in anyone unless it got totally out of hand.. he is linked to the british army so , no way to call them in if action is on us soil ...his US contacts are more personal than offical ....He would report any event to his masters back in the UK AFTER the events ... he is very much used to working alone or as part of a small team with limited resources... normally undercover ....

If you'll have me, you can have Arrow Azure, the 31 year old property developer/owner and second generation hero, fresh from LA. Shay Bennet has a bow, a quiver, a selection of special arrows, and a nice little place in Founders Falls with his 'lab' in. Mostly consists of a PC, records, things to prepare, make, tune and fix his arsenal.

Well as the Freak out post arc got me interested into all this in the first place, I have a number of Non super types who could act or be like investigators and the like. If you want a break down of them then im more than happy to post their info up for you.

Damn. I'd love to get involved but I expect to be net-less from this time next week for an unspecified period

@Zortel: If I'll have you? You have some doubt?

@Shadower: I'll check on specifics later when I actually know what the plot is.

I've got two heroes that'd be interested.

First of all is Fanservice she's a well..mercenary and free-lance investigator (Not that people ever seem to realize!), who also blogs and remains painfully cheerful to this day. No job too small, long as the money's good! She's tough to kill, has super strength and can create Anti Energy (Like Anti Matter, but for Energy. Just keep the two apart!). She's also totally black and white on the law, you're breaking it or you're not. Fans will be around Security Level 20's by this time.

However perhaps a better fit would be Emily One a fanatic puzzle solver and conspiracy theorist, when she's not doing work for RAPIER she's dragging up mysteries just for the fun of seeing them to the end. She's completely powerless, relying instead on a high powered customized rifle, a teleporter, a strange case of OCD that makes her train relentlessly and her general quick thinking. Emily's not adverse to underhand methods as long as the job gets done. Emily is Security Level 36.

Neither have any uber investigative powers other than Emily being able to trawl the internet and peruse her home computer almost anywhere via a headset, which can be jammed!

Trawling the Internet is good. That what I do when making up the plots. I still have links for biotech equipment and encephalitis from the last plot. Just a hint of realism always helps.

Right, I have decided!

Helena Hammond will be my investigator. I warn you, she's a psychic! However, she's not a mindreader as such. She works with the powers of fear, isolation etc (not EMO...) and she was a hero during the First Rikti War and is somewhat reticent about the (over)use of her powers.

So, she wants to try a new path and this would be an interesting chance for her to do that. She is currently Security Level 22 but I may play her a bit more as she's mucho fun (Dark/Psi defender).

Looking forward to it.

I have a character who I'd like to get involved. He is a co-worker with Emily One, but his specialised field is tracking missing persons/locating people. He's called Trace. He carries a specialised rifle, a pocketful of gadgets and a trusty remotely called drone. He's also completely powerless. He's Security Level 41.

Right. I've got a basic plot worked out. I just need to come up with a way of introducing it and we can get started. I'll try to sort some advanced warning out, but expect something odd to happen somewhere around GG on Friday or Sunday night.

do you want the characters we plan to use for the plot at GG ...my normall GG er is not suitable for low key .... OR is the event going to be reported and we can then investigate ... also what time ?

Posted

The event will result in a news report, maybe the odd blog entry. It'll be public and noisy, and I'll make sure you notice it, ya deaf so-and-sos.
