If only I had mentioned the money sinks

And sadly, of that 700 mil, only a bit over 70 mil is actually destroyed. And 99% of that is destroyed on the end of the guy who's getting 100k for his salvage.

    Also of note:

Can you imagine what this would do to the price of that salvage? I would assume that against prevailing logic, the price would actually go up on average, as people would continuously see the 100k sales and run off to list theirs for 125k or higher "to get moar moniez plx!" Despite you reselling the entire lot back for 1 inf.
  2. Personally, I value them to be about 75 mil each. This assumes that you can purchase a recipe every 2 A-Merits for an expected value of 150 mil. This translates into 150 mil / 2 = 75 mil.

At 75 mil sustainable, it would take 40 A-Merits to obtain the 3 billion you'd need for the money to buy a GA proc.

Fulmens probably has the exact worth of an A-Merit laying around somewhere, though be forewarned, it most likely has to do with complicated maths and I'm sure it factors in the flexibility of a triple-jointed squirrel in the equation.
  3. I am more and more disappointed with the random rolls. Merits or A-Merits, there just seems to be so much junk. My last roll was my "best" roll so far. I broke even on buying the A-Merit (if you completely ignore the reward merit cost). I got that from 1 recipe. The other 4 capped at 1 mil for the recipe or 2-3 mil for the enhancement. Not even worth the time to craft them and sell em for a loss. That was a level 50 rolling in the 35-39 range.

I'm considering switching to buying recipes outright, but I see the "good" markets dropping and I'm not sure where to stick my bet.

*shrug* Perhaps I will start hoarding these now as well and save them up for some fictional toon I may make at some point that won't get them spent on them anyways because "what if I REALLY need them for something else?!"

I've had too much coffee this morning. Does it show?

You cannot possibly be any lazier than me. True story!

Marketeering requires about 10 minutes a day (if that) once you "get the hang of it". When it "clicks" you'll be wondering how you didn't figure this out all on your own. It really is that easy!

If you can't talk Fulmens into getting on vent, perhaps you can talk him into taking you on as a protege? I'd offer, but I already have too many
  5. This comes up every now and then. Mostly when someone throws out the idea for inf sinks.

Last night, it occurred to me that we can in fact buy market slots... after a fashion.

With 5 badges giving an additional transaction, you can essentially "buy" those slots, though not as easily as just buying a token or the like.

Here's the "cost" assuming you want your slots ASAP!

First, we pick a piece of salvage that has a lot for sale and a lot bidding. This way, when we list the ones we bought for 1 inf, they sell right away and allow us to move on to the next stack.

The badges are at 250, 1k, 3k, 5k, and 7k. So we've got some work to do to get our market slots!

If you bid 1 inf and patiently wait for those bids to fill over the next few months, you can break even on everything but the transaction fee. This will "cost" you 70k when its all said and done. But where's the fun in that?!!

So... we crank up the old bid machine and go to town buying anything and everything that we can! We bid 100k on everything! Then list them for 1 inf, guaranteeing us an immediate sale on anything with bids on it! Genius!

This method will end up "costing" you 700,070,000 inf if every order fills for exactly the 1 inf you list them for!

    Brilliant!

So... essentially, you "can" purchase market slots. It will cost you somewhere between 70k and 700 mil or so. You can potentially run up the high end past 700 mil. But you can't do it for any less than 70k!

And yes, before the masses descend upon me, you can and *should* be making a profit on these slots, thereby creating the ability to actually get market slots for free, or even at a profit.

    But that wasn't the point

    Market Mystery

    Tis true!

I was waiting on the last 2 widgets to fill a 10 stack when I bid on a few new 10 stacks of widgets. Almost all of the new stacks filled before the 2 stack even though they were the same price and the 2 stack was many hours old at the time.
  7. Eryq,

You sound like you feel that people are persecuting you. I don't see it, but I believe your feelings! Your feelings are important and valid!

And we're about #45 in the top 100- we've broken the top 50, definitely.

I do have 1, no make that 2, requests for our base designer:

1 - No more than 3 "floors" per room. 2 is better imo, but sometimes people can make 3 work. Having "Huge" or "tall" characters is extremely annoying in a base where every "ceiling" is 6 feet high.

2 - Decorate all you like! But please allow people to "flow" through the base. I've been in some bases where the sheer magnitude of stuff in them is awe inspiring. They do an awesome job! But it takes me 5 minutes to figure out how to get out of the room I'm in. Too much stuff (or too much stuff in the way) = not fun. Good pathing is good, m'kay?

I will echo the previous "requirements" of the base when it was initially purchased:

    A) A workshop with crafting table(s) with nearby easy access to personal vault. 2 - 3 salvage bins and enhancement storage for "temp storing" things while crafting. Low level toons can really make use of this when cranking out 20-30 IOs for sale on the market.

    B) A functional med bay.

    c) Porters to every zone (we're missing 2 beacons now I think? One is RWZ and all we need for that is the one on the ship. I can't remember what the other one is for the life of me)

All of the above should be right off the entrance for convenience.

If our new fancy designer needs anything crafted and dropped for the base, they can let me know. If they prefer to do the crafting, we can work something out as well.

Also, if any badges are needed (I'm sure there are many useful ones) just let us know which ones are needed and we'll figure out how to get 'em.

    Thanks!

Seriously, as a hardcore redsider it's a lot less complex; for better or for worse in terms of less places to teleport.

Forgive me, I know I didn't help much.

I have 2 personal VG bases. I use them both for storage. I see no need to have porters in a red side base as Oro can get you almost anywhere you'd want to go, and before Oro, the Ferry is usually just as far away as the base portal. The longest "hop" you may have to do is <random zone> to Cap to the black helicopter line to get to Mercy. Or, if need be, Cap to Port Oaks. If you have the pocket D porter, you don't even need to go to Cap to get to Port Oaks.

Also, there is a disgusting amount of zone hopping for arcs / TFs on blue side. I'm very glad that didn't carry to CoV when they released it (maybe they did and changed it - idk, I haven't played terribly long). But it seems that needing to take a train, to run across a zone, to take another train, to run across THAT zone to talk to some guy who sends you all of the way back to the original person is quite punitive and silly.

Also, on blue side, I notice that even after I have my Oro portal, that I still need to go up to Oro, down to another zone, hop the train, and then run across that zone to do a mission. Usually ending up needing to duplicate this process for every mission in an arc.

Too many time sinks in the form of mission travel blue side has made me determine that porters are pretty much required (for me at least) on every character I have.

I have now used the above image for 2 separate bases! Thank you again for posting it! Its very helpful!
  10. I'll bid Bob, the NMI - and my warmest personal regards.

Bob can be picked up at any market. There is of course a small "release" fee for picking him up, but its nothing a marketeer can't handle.

I will agree with the perspective thing. I dipped under 2 bil total on all of my characters (flurry of burning / slotting / giving away) and about had a stroke! "But but but... what if I want to slot out a new character?! (knowing that I normally pay no more than 300-400mil for an entire toon)

It has motivated me to start working again. Marketeering on 2 characters now!

Ahhh.. to clarify, when I said "hard" I meant hard as in - difficult to guarantee that when you are ready to use them that they will still be there.

If its a very small SG (3-4 people) storage is usually not an issue. You know the people who play and you can say "hey - DON'T TOUCH MY STUFF!"

However, in most SGs that I've seen (haven't seen a ton, but a few) there is special storage for the top 2 ranks and everything else ends up being fair game for anyone. Its "public usage" type of storage that will get your stuff nicked.

If you're comfortable storing your things and fairly comfortable that Bob the New Guy won't snap up your IOs you have saved for your latest project, by all means, use the base SG to store them!

However, you can store 20 IOs in emails (thus clogging up your email) and 10 more on any character over level 10 (so you can email them back to yourself). 50's that are already slotted are great for storing IOs "on character". The minor inf loss from not getting SOs while running missions is negligible.

I've begun slotting my Scrapper. Good luck with your Oblits! My Elec/SD took 10 levels to get his done. And I was lowballing bids left and right. Oblits are very popular under 50, and extremely rare. I know there's a market for them there, but the recipes are just as rare as the enhancements, so whatcha gonna do?

    Good luck with your scrapper!

    *roll eyes*
  16. I am still completely confused why anyone even gives a **** about salvage. I really am. If it hurts you this much to purchase it from the market... don't buy it there. *boggle*

Go to AE and roll some up. Use your merits and roll some up. Or *gasp* go play the game and get some for free. You have choices here people. Yet, you treat this like the market is the only way to get salvage. Its not. It is the most convenient, and therefore *gasp* you pay more.

Are you the kind of people who go to the local convenience store and ***** out the clerk for the price of their milk / bread / whatever because it costs more than the grocery store?

If you are petitioning for the rights of the poor in a video game, you've got some serious issues that need to be addressed. Its a game. Its not real life and it most definitely not the store or the stock market or anything else that's "real". Its a game.

Most of the people screaming "murder" claim they have money. If you're here to petition for some imaginary person who may or may not have enough money, instead of ******** about it here, why not do something about it? Have you gone out and farmed salvage to increase supply and drive down demand? Have you gone out and identified markets that are being flipped and outbid the flipper by one, turning around and listing yours for 0 profit (Have you flipped the flipper?) Have you offered people a way to make more money in this game? Have you shown them how to save money in this game?

    Well?

Doesn't anyone find it odd that the people you are so eager to crucify are the same ones freely giving out advice on how to save money and how to make money, while most of the complainers do nothing of the sort?

If you like, here is an excerpt from my "Keep your Shirt Guide" which outlines why bid creeping salvage is a worthless waste of time:

    *LINK*

Salvage is such a small portion of your actual cost of any build that in the end, it really does you no good to even worry about it a little. Why step over a $5 bill to pick up a penny?

Once again, it confuses me to absolutely no end that people get SO up in arms over salvage. It is by far the most worthless thing in this game. Yet people storm in here all huff-and-puff like salvage prices are what drive the economy. They demand the Devs "fix" the system and prevent flippers for "exploiting" the casual players.

Who are these casual players that are being exploited?

Who's out there saying "damn, I wish I didn't have to save up for that Al Silver I need". If this guy exists, how on earth is he going to manage paying the crafting cost? Is there really people out there who are determined to use crafted IOs that have 0 inf to their name? Why aren't these people using SOs? Those are fixed price and have no wait times involved at all. Why are they sitting at the market pondering the price of salvage instead of going out and playing the game?

And why, oh please tell me why, anyone deserves to get exactly what they want, the moment they want it. "I want a house! Someone go build me a house for $5,000 because that's all I can afford! Do it NOW! Kgo! - Oh, and make sure it has 6 bedrooms and a pool! I'm not taking any low end piece of crap! My $ is worth the same as your $!!"
  17. Thank you Doom!

I'm one of like 7 people who didn't buy GR, so the LotG procs are out due to being cost prohibitive. The rest of it looks fine though!

Some minor tweaks and I should be good to go!

    Thanks!

Because this is intended as an i19 build you aren't seeing the effects of Health and Stamina enhancement (which does make evaluating that part of the build a bit tricky) and she does have all the accolades in place. In fact the accolades would probably be the fastest way to make any exemplar build tougher.

And no I would not use this build currently as without Fitness even with PP it would have issues. Currently I just use her level 50 build for exemplar work. The combination of purple sets, using level 25 LotG +7.5% and access to 20 inspires mean she has little issues with exemplar work.

Not using purples may in fact make it a tiny bit easier to do ... purples (at least in /sr builds) provide no significant +defense so using 'normal' IO sets which do have +defense set bonuses one might end up ahead. I'll work on a spines/SR and see what I can come up with.
    That would be awesome! Thanks!

And yeah, I19 is kind of looming out there taunting me on this build. I'd like to be able to play the build before i19, but if it can't be done reasonably, then I'll just play with what I have and leave it be until then.

It's just that feeling that you did all the hard work and then someone else came along and made a huge profit from it.

(This is a very good analogy: note that even if the other person did no work to actually produce the lemonade, they obviously did some research into how much you can sell lemonade for. Maybe if I'd done the same research, I would have tried to sell my lemonade for $1.50 instead. Rationally, I really have nothing to complain about, I got exactly as much for my lemonade as I wanted, and I can go home early. But I will still resent the lemonade flipper a little.)
A more apt comparison would be to use garbage instead of lemonade. Lemonade is not produced in regular quantities while doing "every day" stuff. Garbage however, is produced fairly regularly while you do your "every day" stuff.

Aside from research, you probably listed your lemonade for $0.15 because that's what the kid up the street sold his for. Over on the next block people were buying lemonade for $5.00 a glass, but that's neither here nor there.

If you didn't list because of the kid up the street, you might have picked $0.15 because that's all a glass of lemonade is worth to you. Had you been the construction worker busting asphalt in 110 degree weather, you may find that $5.00 is more than fair.

Perceived value of an item, any item, depends entirely on circumstances and experiences. Candles are cheap, but most people would usually say they wished they had more when the power goes out. So why didn't they buy more when the power was on?

For those who ascertain that flippers drive up the prices and most people bid creep for most items I submit my experiment:

I did some leveling on my level 4 (now 9) 88's character. I got drops! I put them all on WW and sold a number of them immediately to existing bids. 6 things did not sell immediately due to no bids being placed. I went to bed.

    When I logged in:

You have 0 bought and 4 sold items in the Consignment House.

I pop open the "Sold" tab and this is what I see:

I listed every last one of those for 1 inf. Remember, these items had 0 outstanding bids.

Bid creepers? The recipe is the only thing that might even pass for bid creeping - 25% of my sample. However, that person could have bid 1 and got my recipe. They chose to overpay by 10,000%.

The inert gas and improvised cybernetic: 1,000,000%
    The stabilized mutant genome: 555,500%

People don't bid creep. They're sheep. Hell, I count on it and make great money from it. I have begun a venture lately on high-end items. Things with lots of 0's at the end. I buy a recipe, I buy the parts. I list it for cost + 10% to cover fees. If someone bids what I'm asking for it, I break even. Nothing more.

People constantly pay me twice my asking price. Why? Because bid creeping is hard work yo!

There's a reason bid creeping is the first topic in my "Keep your shirt" guide. Its the thing that can save your average player a TON of inf. The truth is the vast majority of players do not bid creep at all.
