Quote:The ToT really wore me down. What had been very fun for all my characters in the past became unfun for a number of my characters. I kept at it for a while to get a bunch of badges, but eventually gave up. The frequency of boss fights was much too high, especially with the occasional boss+lieutenant pair showing up. (That's not even counting all the paired lieutenants.)It remains a problem, though, that solo trick or treating poses a really, really uncomfortably high probability of spawning two lieutenants, a boss, or worse, a lieutenant and a boss. This is especially rough in the pre-level-20 zones, where frankly, nobody but tankers, scrappers, brutes, masterminds, and some dominators have any chance of surviving such a spawn. This is even more true given how many of them do negative energy damage, which is almost completely unresistable for low level characters on average. Trick or treat enemies also almost all debuff accuracy or to-hit, which is rough on solo characters who don't yet have SOs or level 25+ IOs. Both Trick or Treat bosses also mez, and only 6 of the game's 14 archetypes have native mez protection, and only a few of them before level 16. I would like to strongly suggest that there be two spawn tables for Trick or Treating, one for pre-20 zones, and one for post-20 zones. The pre-20 spawn tables should have all the boss spawns removed, and the double-lieutenant spawns.

Quote:Oh, I don't mind the continuous night for a week, and I can handle it for a couple of weeks... but it just got too long. I'd prefer that they limit the constant darkness to a few days around Halloween, and leave the rest to normal day cycles.Well, that bothers me someway but... It helps those of us who still don“t have certain badges that are only obtainable at night (like Pirate), so I can live with it.
I enjoyed going after the vampyrs in Striga during the darkness early on. -
I'm not interested in raids, I got burned out fighting all those ToT bosses, and I got tired of the continuous darkness. So I've been playing Perfect World International for the past few days. Interesting game.
Now that the daytime light has returned, it's back to CoH! -
I seem to be a few days overdue for mine. The 66 month award line isn't showing up on my NCSoft account yet.

Quote:I'm afraid not. Early on, Statesman said that Mutation was the most popular, but that's all we heard.I *always* choose mutant. I was wondering if there is an official list of the origins ranked by the most to least popular
I use all the origins, but I tend to use Magic the most and Technology the least. -
I was never interested in the Assault Rifle. Of course, it helps that I didn't care for the sound effects or the AoE emphasis or the mostly lethal damage. The Assault Rifle seems too mercenary and not metahuman enough for me. I may have the same attitude toward the pistols, but I'll have to wait and see what they come up with.
I'm more interested in the Demon Summoning. -
I don't know what my characters will be doing, because I don't know what the mechanics for the side switching are. I very much doubt that it will be a simple matter of switching zones. I don't know if I'll manage to switch sides at all. If I can, I have one villain (Nerima Girl) who would be a strong candidate.

Yes, I suspected a devious Nemesis automaton plot as well.
Or... it could be an even more devious Disney animatronics plot. -

Quote:I've had that happen to me several times while I was fighting Halloween enemies at a door. But they weren't going to missions, they were trick-or-treating. One player even did it to me twice in Sharkhead. I don't know what they're thinking. I just back away fast and find another door in some other area.So there I am, on my current tank in Brickstown doing some Trick or Treating. I knock on a door, some enemies come out, and another hero runs up to the same door!
Whoa! Am I going to see my first griefing this year? He must see me standing here.
And.... he walks up to the door and goes in. Oh, duh. A mission. Oddly enough, having been here for every Halloween event, that's the first time that has happened to me. -
Quote:Yes, you're right about the brokers (and detectives). However, the main thrust for adding more automatic introductions was due to many players missing unlockable CoV contacts. Certain other contacts that didn't already have introductions were added to the list, like Daedalus. The devs apparently felt that if any contact already had an introduction, no automatic introduction was needed.Actually, Temblor's introduction was done after that. The earliest I can think of of contacts auto-introducing themselves is CoV's I6. Brokers do that every time you come into a zone. Temblor came with I7, on the other hand, and should have used that code, but didn't. Instead, we were more or less ordered to go to him, and I don't see why that was. It's a new zone, yes, but it's not going to be new to the new players who actually need to be introduced to it, and... Well, the veterans would know how to find Temblor if he were introduced the old-fashioned way.
I'm sure many players would love to have an automatic Hollows introduction instead of having to travel there. So keep pushing for a change. -
Quote:Because that contact introduction was created before the code that automatically introduces certain contacts. Just like the Hollows, Striga, and Croatoa introductions. The code could certainly be changed, but even if the devs feel inclined to make the change, it's probably a pretty low priority. (But you never know, sufficient complaints could bump up the priority.)Introducing us to PvP zones and, yes, even the difficulty person, that I can see. Introducing me to Jim Temblor? No. That I can't see. Why? Why not just stuff him in my contacts list, like all the others? Like Montague, like Mercedes, like Sister I-Can't-Believe-It's-Not-Ghost-Widow.
-
Well, the purpose is to introduce newer players to stuff that they could easily miss. The code's not smart enough to figure out that you've already done those missions with other characters. Who knows how difficult it would be to make the code smarter.

Yes, the contact runaround can be pretty bad. At least we only have to fill up the first friendship bar to get the cell phone number these days, instead of the second.
It certainly would be nice for the devs to clean that up a bit. Personally, I don't mind it much though. When I get a new set of contacts, I try to pick one near a tram to make it easier to get those generic runarounds (like the PVP reps) out of the way. -
My preferred method is to solo the mission content from 1 to 50. I generally try to pick content most appropriate for the character's background along the way. I'm in no hurry to get to 50.

Quote:ToT spawns used to consist of three-minion or lieutenant+minion spawns for solo players. No bosses for solo players, except rarely in the first year. The Dead Head badge (for the zombies) was pretty easy to get. Last year they made the spawns perma-aggro on the character. Prior to that you could leave the critters at the door, or use invisibility to click on doors safely and attack when convenient. Not having played at previous Halloweens, I can't really compare.... but I will say that I've given up on ToT'ing with anything but my strongest characters - the couple low-mid alts that I tried just got slaughtered. Between the high rate of bosses, and the very common accuracy debuffs.... whee?
This year you now have frequent spawns of two lieutenants, a lone boss, a boss + two minions, and a boss + lieutenant. That can be very rough for many lower level characters, especially considering how often those spawns show up. And those seem to have replaced most of the three-minion spawns, making it take much longer to get the Dead Head badge. -
Only if you're trying to do it solo. If you're on a team, the damage output of the entire team counts. The problem in this case is that if there's more than one team, one or more of the teams could end up with insufficient damage to get the badges.

Quote:Current death count of players who foolishly intercepted my bosses as I led them to their police drone doom: 3.From my experience you get a boss at least 3 times more often than you get 3 minion spawns. Probably worse than that as I got all the badges and in that time got 1 spawn of 3 zombies, never got a spawn of 3 witches (minions) and never got the 3 lemons (Streng). This makes getting non-minion badges MUCH easier and minion badge much harder.
I try to be careful about that, but I'm not going to fight those bosses with certain characters, and some players just don't have much common sense.
I had hoped that my dominators would be more capable of dealing with the bosses, but they show up too frequently for my Domination cycle to handle. Of my mid level characters, only my masterminds have had consistent success with the bosses so far. -
A raid on a timer. Definitely not my style. And I'm not fond of the beefed up ToT spawns. I much prefer the Halloween event we had two years ago.
(Disclaimer: This does not detract from my overall enjoyment of the game, which I'm still highly addicted to.) -
Quote:A lot of people probably don't notice this, but one of your helpful contacts in the hero tutorial is a Crey security guard. It might have been good in hindsight to have a few missions early on where Crey has a more helpful role to play. Maybe a mission at level 25 or so where you have a Paragon Protector as a helper. Of course, that tech wasn't available when the game started. The plaques weren't there to start with either, so I think they might have realized the buildup to discovering Crey's secret wasn't that well done.

Quote:Yes, the frequency of boss spawns is very high. It can be nice for some of my characters, but others have to run for it. For my characters who aren't up to fighting Vampire Lords and Crones, I've been knocking on doors not too far police drones and consignment house kill fields. That way I can just lead the bosses to their doom.I know a lot of people think the bosses are the cat's meow, and I'm all for them on my high-level characters and on teams. In fact, I'm for them across the board. But, for low-level, solo characters, they come up a ton, or they can, based on the RNG. I had a string of 5 doors give me a boss at one point, sometimes accompanied by other stuff (so far I've seen 2 minions, 1 minion, and one LT appear with a boss). Again, my 50s would mostly sneer at this. My sub 20 or mid 20 characters? Not so much sneering involved unless it's the mobs sneering at me. The probability of a boss spawn seems too high to me, at least at those levels.
My new stalker, who can't fly yet, got killed a lot. But there's no debt below level 10, so I got used to playing near the hospital... -
I'm not sure I'd call it "fixed"...
Yes, there are plenty of ghosts now. On the other hand, the ToT zombies aren't showing up very often (at least for solo players), so the Dead Head badge is much harder to get. Dead Head used to be the first Halloween hunting badge I'd get, now it's usually the last.
This year's spawns include much more frequent lieutenant and boss spawns. Paired lieutenants, a lone boss, a boss with a couple minions, and even a boss with a lieutenant show up for solo characters. -
No. This morning one of my characters collected more than 15 salvage pieces before getting a complete set. On the other hand, another got a complete set with no duplicates, like you. It's still very random.

Quote:Yes, all enemies who run in the standard missions will run as soon as they spawn, which is rather annoying. If there's more than one path to the exit, you could fail the mission without ever seeing the runner.Another example/symptom of this is boss fights with enemies who will run away at some
point, like Prof. Echo. With the way the game currently is, Prof. Echo will run as soon
as he spawns, well before you can even see him, much less start combat. Not a big
deal for him, since the missions don't fail on that, but it's made me afraid to even bother
with Biff the Super Arachoid or Agent Crimson.
