The road to 50

The road to 50 can be a short or long one. Whats your preffered way to get there ? Would you rather powerlevel the first 20 levels , last 10. Are you a story arc person or a TF person ?
I always enjoyed a full team of 8. Yeah some maps can be repetitive but its the player interaction tha brings out the fun. Makes it seem like growing in levels is a bit faster and you get to enjoy more content succesfully on a short period of time.

Just got my 66 month badge. I still play through it all..and since there is so much content now I will try and do things I haven't experienced in a while.

Do NOT enjoy powerlevelling to 20...thats a fun period there for me.

Once I hit 50 thats when a new area of fun opens up for me (TFs, building the character).

My preferred method is to solo the mission content from 1 to 50. I generally try to pick content most appropriate for the character's background along the way. I'm in no hurry to get to 50.

I play this game to beat ups stuff, watch my cool characters as they beat up stuff, and get levels. In that order. I see no reason to powerlevel, because that just destroys the sense of progression. There's no point in growing up to be strong if you were never weak to begin with.

I try my best to get a team where possible, because, in my opinion, that's where the fun in getting to 50 is

I prefer to play through the content, be it a TF, arcs, AE or just radio missions or street sweeping. As long as it doesn't destroy the sense of progression and there's some good banter along the way I'm in.

Typically, I try to do something different on the way to 50 with every character, content-wise. I like to run arcs that previous characters didn't due because they either had a different contact path or out-leveled it. It also depends on the character concept though (although EATs are easier in this regard given their specific content).

But generally, I just play like I always do - talk to contacts and do arcs. I'm getting more into the AE though, which offers it's own rewards in both new content and Tickets. And of course, I will always try to use the toon I'm leveling if someone needs a team that could use the character

In order of preference.

TFs, Flashbacks and AE arcs with at least some players that I know, or else by special arrangement on the forums or something so I can get a feeling for whether the other guys are worth putting up with first.

Regular Mission teams with known players.

Soloing, depending on AT. My Villains will choose arcs based on what would be fun for the specific AT/Powerset to fight. My soloing heroes (pretty much just my Scrappers) will often focus on the Zone Story Arcs (Hollows -> Faultline -> Striga -> Croatoa -> RWZ), and avoid older Hero misison contacts like they're poison.

Newspaper/Scanner teams with known players.

Newspaper/Scanner PuGs.

Regular mission PuGs.

TF, Flashback, etc. with PuGs.

Street Sweeping.

AE with PuGs (authors broadcasting for players to help test their mission falls into the first category, not this one. This is for "/tell Eisenzahn, AE team lfm. You in?")

Logging off and letting Patrol EXP accrue.

Using auto-complete to skip missions entirely and just get the completion bonus.

Getting a level pact and letting the other guy do all the work.

Padding/Bridging/Filling/Doorsitting/Whatever they call it these days, if there's even still any variation on this crap going on after I16.

In all cases where teams are mentioned... large PuGs are preferred, so there's greater redundancy if an individual member isn't pulling thier weight. Teaming with friends or by specific arrangement though, I prefer to go with the minimum necessary players to do whatever it is we're doing.

If the character can solo effectively from 1-50, chances are that's how I'll play them. I may enjoy teams with friends, but I won't go out of my way to arrange them. If the character can't solo across the entire level span though, I probably won't solo them at all, even during a level span where they could do so comfortably (like higher level Tankers and Controllers after they become more competative damage dealers, or lower level Dominators before EBs become completely unavoidable in CoV).

Personally I used to do the normal way of leveling until about two months ago. Now I prefer PLing my toons to 27. Why 27? Even though I can pick up a travel power at 6; there are usually other powers I'd still like to take early on. I also only choose travel powers whose prerequisites fill a need in my build i.e. hover and super jump or hasten and super speed. Aside from the minor travel power issue, I absolutely HATE playing the game pre Stamina so power picks 16, 18, and 20 are usually reserved for the Fitness pool.

I suppose I could stop there, but I also hate spending currency on enhancements less than level 30. They are a waste of influence for me because I generally have builds planned out using 30 and 35s.

As far as teaming goes I'd rather be on a full team until 47, then the greed in me kicks in again and I'd rather have less teammates for a higher chance of drops.

Who do I have to *&^% around here to get more Targeted AoE recipes added?

Pre-30 I prefer a mix of solo play and teaming through normal contact missions and TF's. Even though the xp is very fast, I don't really care for 8 man teams. My ideal team size is about 2-4 people. On my last two characters I've run on large teams in the lower levels and managed to completely miss Faultline, which annoys me as I love the story arcs there. Yes I know I could turn off xp, but that defeats the purpose of playing a lowbie IMHO.

After 30, I have found that I can barely stand most of the hero side story arcs. Too much running around, too many street hunts, and the mission objectives of the door missions are sometimes painfully annoying. I often run radio missions and TF's in this range, or help friends with arcs they want to do on their characters.

I don't generally powerlevel through any of it, though to be honest I've thought about it. Certain AT's and powerset combos are downright bloody awful pre-SO's and pre-Stamina. Until SSK I flat refused to exemp my Ice tank below 26, for example. It's a miracle the character made it to 20, much less 50 because his Endurance issues before EA were just that bad. So for that reason I still think that while the recent xp changes have helped the lower levels, the Devs still have yet to address the core problem: the performance of sub-20 characters is far too low compared to what they turn into later on. Buff lowbies I say!
