Question: why def over corr with a fireblast character?
-
I was on a mothership raid last night where this power was used to great effect. The people using it warned at the start to turn the prompt on if you didn't want to be yanked around. They used it to pull the league to pilons, then the bomb ledge and then again into the bowl when needed; the healing buff was very much needed inside the bowl. My mileage varied I guess, I can understand people not wanting it used, but there's a prompt for that. I had the prompt on and accepted everytime fwiw.

Quote:Woah now. You're the one in the thread stuck on a single track here. Nobody has said don't get defense, we're just saying you don't need it on a controller like you seem to think you do. Control is active defense; controlled mobs don't shoot at you and if they're not shooting at you then they can't hit you.... even softcapped you get hit sometimes.List there "Old School"... it's great and all that you are so awesome and want to educate the rest of us, but a bit of defense never hurt anyone, and LEAST of all made it harder to be in melee. And thanks but no thanks on the offer to check out your guide, sounds like a one track mind guide that's way out dated.
Local Man's guides are very well written fwiw; you might learn something if you were to take a look at the "way out dated" -
given that, I'd look at fire/psi/??? build for recharge. From about lvl 12 you'll be able to stand in the middle of spawns and aoe 'em to nothing while they stagger around and slowly try to get away if they're not stunned.
edit: oh, and if you want them to slowly try to get away if not stunned... do not use your aoe immob while in the middle of them. -
I play my doms to control the mobs before being attacked... works great until you're up against something that resists your control
For those situations, I have RotP as part of my attack chain.
Plant/fire is a solid aoe machine, no doubt about it.
What other characters have you played and enjoyed? this may help us give you better advice. -
OK, I disagree with you entirely, but that's ok, I'll agree to disagree. Controllers have been ripping up spawns since long before IO's. Building for additional defense is nice but is not needed by controllers ... especially controllers that are following an alpha soaker.

Quote:Did you miss the fact that this squishy is a controller? Step 1 - control the spawn, Step 2 - Melt the spawn. Defense and resistance are not the only way to survive a spawn.I was mainly refering to the abcense of actual survivability outside the debuffs, defense, resistance ect. I haven't looked at this in mids but I don't have to in order to see that lack of survivabikity. Yes I play my squishies in melee, but the have a solid measure of defense and resistance to support the agressive playstyle.

It is only a problem when you're actually hoping for them to be defeated so that you can cast veng.... Oh drat...
-
Quote:Say it isn't so... Defenders are allowed to defend other defenders on the team now??? When did I miss the memo? Not to be a downer, but the only reason the OP pulled that off is that there happened to be an Empathy defender in the group. Without that particular character the actual scenario in that situation would be that the defender would take a ranged mez from the DE, the toggles would drop, and the defender would die instantly. The empathy mez protection is what really made the difference.
-
have you ever played a fire/ controller? that's where they belong, right smack in the middle of the mosh. I'd not use a /poison for my choice of what the OP is trying but any fire controller I play wades into the middle from about lvl 12 on.

Yeah, herostats is great but it is Win only.
In game, go to options -> Windows -> Enable chat logging
Pull up your combat chat log and fight
The game will save a plain text log of what is in the chat window, including what you had to "roll", what you did roll and what your damage was. In Windows, this is in the CoH install folder -> logs subfolder. I don't know where it will put it in the Mac version.
You'd need to do a bit of spreadsheet magic to get it parsed but I think you'll find you are hitting much more than you think you are. -
Beginners Luck is not generated by the client, it is on the to-hit from the server so MAC or WINdoze doesn't make a lick of difference there.
Honestly, I think it is observer bias. Save your combat tab and dump it into a spreadsheet, sort by misses and I think you'll see you hit a lot more than you think you do. -
Yeah, I know I can break the set up.... but that 8.75% is too sweet to pass up
-
Thanks... some of the ATIOs are easy to slot... this one has me confused though. Character is a time/fire at about lvl 37 right now, I need to respec him (I made some poor choices along the way) and want to drop the set where it will do me more good than a mere 8.75% recharge
-
Where is the best place to slot these? Fast single target attack or a nice big AOE?
-
While I am going to be going with the obvious plant/nature for my own na character; you could go with na/water, na/fire, na/ice - all would fit a nature theme.
-
I agree a dark/dark is not the best; I tried one of these and a dark/psi when I first got dark control. dark/psi is waaaaay better than dark/dark (for me)
-
How is it slotted? If you attack them, they get a chance to shoot back but it is delayed. I have a fear proc in mine so I do damage - this allows them to shoot back at me when I fear them and they get hit by the proc. Fear is an odd control but it is powerful. It lasts longer than "hard" controls and the spawns are heavily debuffed when they can attack back.
-
Dark is solid control and really not far behind plant in aoe control, in some aspects I'd say it is better. Many people don't like the umbral beast pet - that's the biggest draw back for it I'd say. I don't play with sounds on so I'm not bothered by the dog.
-
I like my TW/Elec brute. Can you be clearer about what secondary you're looking for if /dark is no good...?
-
Has anybody run this up to high level in Beta? If so, how is it looking and how will it pair with plant/ (I'm expecting great things ... )
-
It has been a while since I played my ta/arch but my memory of ice arrow is I stopped using it late teens/early 20's once I had my debufs slotted better. EMP is an aoe hold with a significant debuff added to it. It is the best hold in the game (imo)
-
Glaring item for me: Ice arrow is slotted and EMP arrow is not... I'd rob all of those slots from Ice and dump 'em into the EMP. It is a much better hold and debuffer.
