Defender's Bastion?

Where is the best place to slot these? Fast single target attack or a nice big AOE?

A slower-recharging ST attack I think is better, since it's based off of PPM (Procs per minute). If you have the Superior version slotted, an attack with a base recharge of 12 seconds or more should have this go off every time.

Something to keep in mind is that in I24 Recharge that is slotted in the power or granted by the Alpha slot (but not Global Recharge) will be used to calculate the recharge time for the purpose of PPM calculations so the proc chance will likely be going down for most ATE sets.

Thanks... some of the ATIOs are easy to slot... this one has me confused though. Character is a time/fire at about lvl 37 right now, I need to respec him (I made some poor choices along the way) and want to drop the set where it will do me more good than a mere 8.75% recharge

Actually with a Time/Fire I'd probably just stick it in Fireball. Time has a pretty good AoE heal already so I wouldn't feel the need to maximize the healing proc. Given that I'd probably stick the set in Fireball since it has a very good enhancement values.

Just theorycrafting here.

Wouldn't it be a decent idea to place it in a power you use in melee that might get you in trouble, like irradiate? I know it's generally thought that placing it in a single target longish recharge power is better than in a pbaoe (if you have one), but placing it in something like that would lead to it procing more when you really need it.

Any thoughts as to why it would be bad?

Also remember that you can always stick the Proc in a different power than the rest of the enhancements. Though the Recharge is nice, if you want to slot the Proc in something like Fire Blast, and the rest of the set in Fireball, you can do that.

Yeah, I know I can break the set up.... but that 8.75% is too sweet to pass up

Pretty much agree here.

I wouldn't sweat the heal proc on a Time Defender, and just stick the set where ever you want really good enhancement values.

Fireball, RoF, and Inferno (If you're prepping for I24) all come to mind.

Alternatively, you might want to put it in a power that you're likely to use while standing near people who need it.

Personally, I put the set in my steam spray area attack. I consider the set as a whole better than Positron's Blast, but not as good as the bonuses I can get from single target sets.

On my Cold/Sonic/Mace and Storm/Sonic/Power the full set is slotted in Shriek. On my Dark/Sonic/Leviathan the full set is slotted in Howl. On an unrelated note, I really need to level another Defender secondary to high levels

I enjoyed taking /Dark to 50 and prolly would again, though not with the primary I used (Kinetics). Tangental thought since everyone else answered the actual question

Good point about it being better than Posi Blast.

I know it sounds bad for a defender, but I very rarely play for those around me these days. I've found that if I play most defenders to keep myself buffed and alive, I usually keep things pretty smooth for the team. I do keep my eye on team needs too, just rarely find a need to do anything out of my common routine.

The simple fact is it's getting rare for a defender to be really needed defending the way the game is going. The uber IO builds are getting more common. Players at Defense caps are all over the place and when that fails it's too late (usually) for the defender to do anything about it.
Sure, lower level content still features a need for us. And yes, we have a home in some of the Incarnate level stuff. The problem is a big portion in the general game is set up now to not really need a defender.
Think about the calls for players today in broadcast, lf one def rupt type. I've even seen an upswing in the dreaded "lf healorz" call.

^^ What the taco dog said. I'm thinking on my kin/rad of putting it in my snipe power (post-I24). That way I have a heal up in melee range and another back with the rangers.

My time/elec lives in melee range so I put my heal proc in Short Circuit. Guaranteed to fire when I and melee teammates need it. I don't worry about who stayed back at range. That's a job for the dark/
