Sorry for the confusion, he swapped it (nvidia) with an ATI. At first he said it was fine, then said after further testing it was acting up again. I think what happened was he got a crash to desktop from another game and assumed it was doing the same thing, except in this game the CTD is fairly common. To be honest, I'm not sure he really tested it long enough to see if the problem reproduced itself. I think after this latest issue we are going to try again with an extra ATI card and see if we can get an RMA for the current card.
  2. Even more follow up!

As stated before, I've been getting video freeze/sound loop crashes when I play games, but other comp activities are rather normal. I showed that previous screenie of some strange video happenings I had one night before crashing, but for the most part I haven't really had anything "look" abnormal. Then last night, I get this.

The image you see is rather dynamic in real time. Those "blocks" all flash (an epileptics nightmare) and I didn't crash or anything, it was just darn near impossible to see obviously and I didn't want the card to explode on me.

Now the person that made the box for me swears he thinks its "a video setting" and not hardware. Am I crazy to think it looks like a hardware issue?

Edit: oh and something else I noticed last night. Anything I view in Windows Photoviewer will have pixels missing, if I view the same image in internet explorer it's totally normal. This was something I hadn't noticed until after the issue last night, btw.

    -Morgan.
That is a good way to put it.
  5. I'll help and get you started.

    1. You have bonfire, but no flashfire. Flashfire is a bread and butter power.
    2. Siphon speed needs accuracy and recharge.
    3. No, no on the slows in hotfeet. You want end and damage. This is a nice place to frankenslot
    4. Speed boost is all wrong, just because you can put sets in something doesn't mean you have to. End mods, not speed.

There is nothing wrong with putting sets in, but put ones in and lead to particular bonuses that will be helpful to your character. Typical controller needs are recharge and accuracy and depending on the power set combination end recovery. With /kin, not so much. A farming controller may want to softcap smashing and lethal.

    Words to the wise:

If you want some assistance first thing you need to do is give us an idea of what you are trying to accomplish. Just posting a build and having "opinions please" in the header doesn't give anyone any information. It says, "Here, I slapped together something; now tell me how to really do it." It can come across as lazy. An explanation of why you think your build is good, what you want to accomplish and what else you are looking for will go a long way in giving us the information we need to give you the best advice for you. Do you want a team build, a solo build, a hybrid, a farming build, do you want to max defense or recharge or do you just want the most expensive build because you want to blow a couple of billion influence just to say you did? What do you want?

You can start it all off by reading threads and guides to help hone your vision, so you can come to us with the most information so we can help you in the best way possible.

Simply put, I wouldn't build a Fire character who didn't expect to spend some time in melee, regardless of how other powers in the set operate.
That really depends on team makeup in my opinion. If you have a damage heavy team (multiple scraps and blasters) already, stuff will be dead before you can even get there. Hotfeet may be a great power, but it's not the only way for a fire controller to be effective.
  7. In these days of inspiration combining, it's not a big deal really.

I usually put it in my builds for my 49 pick because I do see some use for them with late game content (late game TFs and raids), other than that for normal missions....finish the spawn, combine and move on.
  8. I'm not so sure focusing on regen on a controller is helpful. Especially one that has a fast heal. Recharge and accuracy will make the big difference on that build.

A fire/kin can run BM maps with SOs or common IOs rather easily.

    Hello Guardian

    Kay reminded me.

I run semi-regular All Controller TFs on Guardian. They are usually run on Saturdays around noon CST. I post sign ups here in the forums around Wed or Thur of the week we are running. If you enjoy controllers and really fun teams, you'll love our ACTFoAH runs.

Hopefully when my compy gets back into shape I'll post a new ACTF.

(Oh and for coop TFs our Dom cousins are welcome to join us)
  10. With the choice between the two powers Hibernate makes more sense. Not only will it leave you untouchable, you will regen and recover which is pretty helpful in a big AV fight.

  13. I don't think it would be too hard to learn a few extra things.

And you assume that it will even be called Dark Miasma.....that could change as well.

There's a chance that Dark Miasma will come around onto the Controllers side but it won't be much like the Dark Miasma of a MM correct?
Guessing from dev response it won't be like any incarnation of dark miasma...my guess is it will be almost a totally different set (if they do also create a dark control) with just the few existing buff/debuff powers and some new.
  15. I think you missed the explanation, Neg.

It's not an overpower issue, its the fact when they look at how they are going to put together ALL the dark themed sets, there are issues of overlap that have to be resolved.

Example: When looking at adding dark to ATs that haven't gotten it yet they hope to put in a dark control set. Well dark miasma already has many powers that would be obvious choices for dark control, therefore more of an overhaul would be required for dark miasma (or whatever the dark buff/debuff set for controllers would be called if its radically changed) and the sets being proliferated now don't require that amount of overhaul.

In other words they aren't so concerned about overpoweredness they actually want to make MORE for us, but that takes time.

(I welcome any corrections if that is inaccurate)
  16. This was brought up in the Comic and Hero Culture forums yesterday and I believe a PM was sent to a redname pointing it (the website selling the knockoff stuff) out.

    Hello Guardian

    Welcome home.

It was always home, you're just a little late to the party. But that's just fine, all are welcome. Enjoy the madness. Bacon and cookies are to the right.
  18. Wasn't there a dev comment a while back about the miasma possibility? If I remember right they said something to the effect that if it is ever ported over, there will be significant changes to the set, and they have been porting over the sets that require fewer changes first. I also think they gave some of the reasoning behind the changes and they weren't the "obvious" ones usually stated in the "will we get dark?" threads.

[My memory could be totally off, but I seem to remember something]

    Hi Toonies!
  20. Get in a leveling pact with someone that never plays the character....maybe someone from the forums that doesn't play on your server that will sacrifice a slot just to level pact with you. You'll level at half the speed, see more content and once you hit 50 they'll have a brand new free lvl 50 on a server they don't play that they can transfer to their server!

Or you could just turn xp off for a bit.
  21. It's either Sirius, Pandora, a CD or mp3s. I usually play with the game sound all the way down.

The author only needs to post his or her arc in the announce the arc thread or make any other post on the forum and then his or her arc can be posted here.

For me this is a win/win. We get another great arc to play and the author is made aware of the forum. It took me a long time to find out about it and I wish I had found out sooner.

I also want to be sure that the gems posted here are gems by authors who are still playing the game. This thread is to help encourage and support current MA authors. I am sure there are many great arcs out there by people who no longer play and while we may enjoy them, our feedback won't help the authors.

My hope is that this thread helps us overcome the black hole of 4 star arcs and allows deserving authors to get feedback and plays.
I hate to keep sticking on this point and I swear I'm not trying to derail your efforts.

Not every player is comfortable/likes/wants to participate on the forums. In fact a vast majority of players have no use for the forums. If you want to encourage them to do more good work and create more awesome arcs, this isn't the only place to do that. It's the only place for some of us maybe, but not for everyone.

If you really want to encourage new authors, leave them good and encouraging comments, invite them to come here if you like (some people or shy or don't have the time). By announcing a good arc here they will get more plays....more plays will encourage them to make more arcs, etc etc.

I'm just seeing the same arcs being promoted here that are always being promoted, and to be fair we already know they are awesome.

    Sorry derail over.

    fire/kin build

    What is your current build?

It helps to show where you need to tweak it.

Also, I see at least three threads on the first page of this forum discussing fire/kin builds. Perhaps look over those, purpose a build and have people look at it.

No offense, but I can't imagine how much time that must have taken.

EDIT: I see you joined the forum Dec 2004, so assuming 5 years and a few months in change of playtime, that means you've leveled a character to 50 about every 3 months on average. Figure anywhere form 40 to 80 hours to do that. So, 40 to 80 hours per three month period, or about 20 hours/month on average, for 5+ years playing? That's commitment.

Heh, yeah I pretty much play nightly. The early years it was 3-6 hours a night (give or take) and more on the weekends, now not nearly that much. I'm a bit of a nightowl, so that helps. I do though have a social life and other hobbies, I'm not a shut in and I like being around people. 20 hours/month.............pffft easy!

My first 50 took around 9 months (my game start date is Aug 04 btw) and almost 1000 hours. Now when I check most of my 50s take around 120-140 hours or so and typically its through regular teaming (my crew pretty much runs normal content/arcs and rarely TF). I have two accounts (while I can dual box, I rarely do unless its to transfer) which I made back in the days before expanded server slots. I have typical altitis so I won't necessarily play one character all the time, so there isn't a real reliable calander time from 1-50 (3 months sounds right though). No real secret or short cut. Just consistent play and love for the game. Except right now, my compy is on the mend, hoping to get it back tomorrow.
