    Pain/MM Viable?

Have to second the question - what's the primary?

My Nin/Pain MM is... er.... a pain. I wouldn't recommend that pairing. Something that's all range (IMHO) works better, assuming you can keep them all right near you.

In PVP... well, if you can find another P to V... the only thing I can think of is that you'll be hit with heal decay if you find yourself healing yourself/pets/teammates too much. Other than that, yeah, visit the PVP forums.
  2. Because you want to. *shrug* For me, at least, I don't need another reason. Yeah, bit of a cop out answer, but I'll have character ideas come along and a Stalker fits them better.

Plus - yes, stalkers have fewer hit points, but y'know what? I tend to find "Hey, get a few levels and be nigh-unkillable" scrappers downright boring. (Brutes, too, to a point.) I have to be a bit quicker on my feet while scrapping with my stalkers. And I like that.

No, the game doesn't really cater to the Stalker. *shrug* For me, I don't care. My Khelds go Void hunting, rushing ahead of the team to kill *their* enemy. My Stalkers run headlong into packs of Rikti drones and go to town. I find it fun. And that's all that matters to me.

    Refreshing Buffs

Copied from elsewhere, finding it helpful -

    /optionset buffsettings 2110240

add up all the options you want and use that with /optionset Buffsettings command.
    Code:

  4. er... okay.... you already have more stuff open up as you get more prestige, because you earn it, so I can't say I'm quite sure where you're going there. Honestly, I'd rather any SG "stuff" they add be open, not requiring an "SG level" or anything.

As far as "SG Incarnates," "SG IOs" and the like - honestly, I'd rather not punish people who aren't part of an SG or are part of smaller SGs.

Eh. To me, people that acted like that were put in "special needs" classes, not called "comedians." I don't find acting like a hyped up four year old funny.

I find Eddie Izzard funny. I find most of Monty Python's sketches funny. I don't find "Booger booger fart butt!" level humor funny - didn't when I was a kid, either - and Jim Carrey seemed to not want to get past that. Every time I tried watching ILC, it seemed they, and he were at that level... so, yeah. For Jim Carrey, it's worse, since he's shown (again, Truman Show) he can do *SO* much better. He could be brilliant - but he wants to keep being the fool.

Because they gave us Jim Carey. I can think of two, maybe three roles I've liked him in. (Mask, Truman Show.) The rest of the time, I just want someone to drop him off a building.

Interesting read. Need to chew over it a bit.

Two points that popped into mind as I was browsing through:
    1. As mentioned elsewhere, replacing Build Up with Soul Drain would be bad for the Stalker. You have a high-HP target, you want as much of a damage boost as you can before you hit. Soul Drain would count as an attack, dragging you out of hide (and being an AOE, Placate wouldn't help much... even if you didn't want to use it on a followup attack after an AS) and

    2. As far as team buff/debuff - and I may have missed mention of this in the skim I did - they *do* have one already, though it's a "chance to" terrorize instead of a guaranteed one - and they fixed that so it fires off even if the main target dies.

Not necessarily. In some niche situations, it may be a better answer. As a general computing environment, the way you've described it... again, see "Microsoft Bob."

Unless, of course, that's the realistic, factual answer. Some answers are just plain wrong - not "differently right."

"I want to flap my arms and fly, it'd be fun!" "Unfortunately, you can't."
    "1+1 should equal 5!" "No."

See? Perfectly good reasons for "No" to be an answer.

    Have they?

That's something *I* have said as a suspicion for why they can't be respecced. I don't recall seeing a redname verify it. If they have, I'd love to see it.

You sound like you're taking this personally. Don't. I'm pointing out that you're trying to add quite a bit of restriction to something that doesn't need it.

    Quote:
That's a little bit extreme, isn't it? I'm just trying to say the current options have almost no definition to them, and many common themes for origins don't apply to the categories or apply to more than one.
    ... and that's their strength.

    Quote:
You'll still have all the options that you ever did, just a few more choices to choose from. Geez. If you want to say your human/alien hybrid shoots light beams out of his eyes as a result of Training, that's fine I guess. Go ahead. I'm not stopping you.
No, but what I'm saying is your categories are far more restrictive than the very open few there are now.

    Quote:
See, this is why I'm saying that a little more definition is a good thing. By this logic, EVERYTHING is "natural".
I think you need to look up the definition of natural before dipping into the hyperbole.

    Quote:
You can't just apply anything and say its "natural" and this sort of reasoning is why I don't feel five categories is enough to lump many of the common origins.
Then, again, pick what feels best to you and expand it in your bio.
    Quote:
    We can do better.
And we do. By picking something nicely broad, and expanding it in the bio - for those who want to.

    My points are:
    1. You're wanting to restrict something that, right now, is wide open, and
    2. You're asking to add potentially a fair bit of work for something that makes no difference, and could potentially break other bits of the game.
And 3 - and I'm sorry to keep saying it, I'm not trying to sound like a broken record - but what you want ("more definition") can be done by just writing out your specifics in the bio.

However, as of several issues ago Banished masks do spawn in DA, and anyone can get the badge easily in under an hour sweeping Moth Cemetery. So, the excuse of perpetual darkness being an advantage to badge hunting is no longer valid.
ummmmmm.... no. Unless by "many years" you mean "Before issue 3-4," because I was sure seeing/avoiding/hunting them in DA around then.

What didn't count for some time were the masks in the portal mission to the BP dimension.
  14. soooooo.....

Why do all this instead of just filling in the specific information in your bio? Especially since you're trying to pigeonhole things that I simply don't agree with.

For instance, you have "Creature" as a subclass of "Mutant." But what if that ability is natural to that creature? They're not a mutant then - they share the same traits as the rest of their race (such as, say, a chameleon being able to change color, various lizards being able to regrow body parts and the like. Those aren't "Mutations." Or what if the creature is the result of a science experiment?)

Why is "Accident" subclassed as "Science," when it could well be that an alien spore infested you - and any human getting that same spore would do the same thing? That would be "natural" for that combination. (See: Peacebringers.)

Don't try to get more fine grained. The wide open nature of the current origins work fine, and give people a LOT of leeway. Use the space in your bio if you feel like being specific.
  15. It is NOT "The Council of Nictus." Someone needs to be strangled.
  16. Can't tell the difference redside anyway.

Only as an option. I like the 2x5.

/this. The VEAT so-called storyline (see also half-baked, unfinished and rushed crap) nearly had me delete the first VEAT I was trying to get to 50. Something like a single-mission "arc" that did nothing. It was such an incredible letdown... and let's not get into the craptastic "Um, ok, you win, um, go listen to a bizzarre metagame speech by statesman and beat him up" at the end.

I started working on VEAT arcs in AE... and found I just didn't care. Each branch should have its own arc, quite honestly. Why would Banes and Crabs have much of anything in common? Banes have some potentially interesting lore (touched on by Phipps) that's completely ignored.

... meanwhile the BOTBS and Coralax are just tossed to the side, despite some *really* interesting hints and such we've had for *years*... because "well, they're old and were someone else's idea." Really? No wonder some things feel so haphazard and slipshod.

Yeah. Well, I'm not holding my breath on that. They SHOULD... but I highly doubt they will.
  19. Do the people who didn't get to pay for them get to use the telepads?
What happens when the person who bought them left the SG? (or they get kicked out?) Do the items vanish with them, or do they have to re-buy them for the next SG?

SGs could use more "stuff," though, absolutely. They've needed it for a long, long time.

I didn't resent the similarly-leveled Ranger who made a game out of trying to stalk Kae while I was out collecting crafting materials, or even the guys who would wait until I was in the middle of a fight with some critter to try a hit-and-run. I expected to have to deal with that kind of thing, and it was fun.

Having a group of six who were obviously more than a few levels higher than me rift in and gank Kae while I was talking to a PvE mission contact... and then stay there camping that contact to flatten anyone else who came near them? THAT ticked me off. And that kind of crap happened all the time.
Oh, I agree with that, absolutely. That was one of the issues (and, honestly, it happened the other way too - try to do a rift mission on a level 20-21 more than a minute after the rift appeared, walk into a squad of high levels just camping the rift.) They needed SOME sort of balance there.

Admittedly, at least while I played, a quick callout on the global channel with a ping on location would get a rush of high levels out to fight them off.
  21. Er...

Inactive or unplayed arcs don't cost "memory." They take up storage space on the hard drive(s.) They'll take up memory (and CPU cycles) when active.

That aside, give a 30, 10 and 5 day warning beforehand, then go ahead and wipe any invalid arcs. Broken farms, arcs that have been broken by patches and not fixed in however long, etc. Or a total wipe, for that matter. I really wouldn't argue. Not sure if I'd republish some of mine, TBH. They'd *have* to introduce UI improvements, though, at the same time. "Story" and "Non-story" tabs. Revised ratings (thumbs up/down, plays vs completes, etc.) All the things that have been mentioned over and over again.

Well, here's the thing. It was advertised as PVPVE. The PVP was put forward very heavily... so someone not that interested in that style of game, well.... it's like someone who doesn't like shooters picking up Modern Warfare, or someone who hates RTS buying Starcraft II - what else would they be expecting?

Auction house prices... not as big a deal.

Regular mission item prices? Or level 30 wings? Ugh. And then there's trying to get a full set of flash armor... that was just insane. At least they finally (as in a few months ago?) put a teleporter between the main (I can't even remember the name) "capital" and that distant island... where they had some contacts... and you had to wait forever for that blasted air-boat-thing.

Of course, as a ... I think preorder, might have been early vet, I had better wings free (at 30.) Which was, IMHO, somewhat unfair.

I'm not honestly sure PVP optional servers would really *work* for that game, given some of what various quests involved. If they actually did something like that, they'd have to keep you from being able to transfer between the two types. I couldn't see getting the gold siege (or whatever they were called) medals on the PVE servers - the guardian deities aren't *that* big of a threat on their own, for instance, and past certain points, NPCs are just farmables in the Abyss. Not to mention missions there that change depending on who has control of certain areas (which are, IMHO, also irritating... especially when you have to rescue prisoners, but your faction controls the island that mission is on for *months* at a time... so you can't ever complete it.)

Also, an Asmodean. Loved the hat. Can't remember just what she was any more, though. Just that she hit people with a stick.

Er... To be fair, sub-level-20 zones had no raiding in it, and there were PVE only (non-rifting, non-enemy-entrance) zones. Not enough content there by the time I left to make an alternate path, and some of the "core" content (Fragment of Memory) couldn't be done without dealing with PVP... I still don't know how FoM3 went.

I went in there knowing there would be PVP, expecting to PVP... and at times it was fun. When it WASN'T fun was being sent, at level 20, into an enemy camp to collect 5 of whatever. If you went via rift, within minutes there would be a horde of high level enemies there waiting. Via "spell" (for some missions,) you'd have to penetrate enemy territory ... where the high levels would inevitably be, and would tend to kill you (and destroy your kisk, or wait for you at it) in no time.

The PVP was, on occasion, fun - and I'll admit I enjoyed the *hunt* more than anything (my Ranger didn't have the best gear, but I'd gotten a good hundred some kills in fairly casual play) - but there was a lot that just broke it for me.

And I'd disagree with some of N_A's points - I had no problems with flight, for instance, and teaming (as I recall) was pretty quick. PVP made sense... it just quickly got out of balance. (And with higher levels getting into low level areas, it wasn't restricted enough.)

One of the things that really killed it for me, though, was the *cost* of everything. Try to get a little cash to get ahead, have it burned on a skill upgrade... but only one, your others get to suffer for a while. And don't forget the *required* purchases to finish some quests. Very annoying.
  25. Couldn't stand them when they were new.
