She shouldn't be telling VIPs, who are allowed into the VIP beta server, how to use one of the perks of being VIP? That's silly. However,
Quote:Christ, do I miss actual closed betas. Some info might've leaked out, but at least most people involved weren't under the compulsion to go running off to City Life to yammer on about every thing they saw that wasn't yet ready for beta testing. -
Quote:It is?Sorcery however is explicit and so are demons. 'Sorcery' is supposed to work by explaining how you do the powers the game has now!
I can't be a being from a world/dimension that has these creatures someone else labeled "demons," having trained them fairly normally? I can't have created robots that look like demons? I *must* be magic or I'm wrong?
And given we don't know what's in this "sorcery" pool, it's rather hard to say "it's limited to magic." *points at the Babylon 5 technomages.* -
Quote:Well, all we can really go by are:The big question to be answered of course, which won't come til this things hit beta for real, is whether or not you can slot more than one ATO set. That is, if you have round 1 ATOs slotted, can you slot the Round 2 ATO in a different power that accepts it, or will you have to choose which set you want.
(A) the descriptions we've seen, and
(B) what happens now.
The description goes right along with purples, some procs/globals and the current ATOs - it's unique, so you can only have one *of that type, of that set* in it. However, purples (for instance) don't preclude you having, say, a set of Hecatomb, a set of Absolute Amazement, a set of Apocalypse, etc. in the same character.
Haven't messed with the enhancement catalysts - I know from the description it considers the normal and superior versions "different" sets as far as the set bonuses, but someone else will have to say if you can slot both.
I'd say it's *likely* you could slot one of each set of ATOs in a character - but we haven't dealt with this class of enhancements before, so there's always the chance they'll do something to stop that. They'd have to have fairly good reason, though. -
I do remember hearing of "a" someone who did the same thing, though, as a massive multibox (COH players with multiple accounts? Never! >.>) - and yeah, with illusion. I'm probably blending the two in memory, though.
-
Quote:That would be a rather ridiculous way of doing things, given they can't guarantee everyone would have them... which doesn't exactly scream "balance." After all, how does it "balance" my all-SO build, or someone that just has one of the IOs?They have been using ATOs to tweak balance issues, quite noticeable with the first round of them, even moreso noticeable with the second round, I fully expect them to continue that trend. ATOs are something that they will use to balance, whether they admit to it or not.
-
Indeed. What you're seeing is hardly new... there was someone... I don't *believe* they were on virtue, but I could be wrong - who multiboxed. Severely. With Illusion controllers. I don't remember what the name was - it was "illusion" something - and they all had the "same" name, but doing just what Neko's saying - switching the Is and Ls and the like. So you'd have Illusion, IlIusion, IIlusion, IIIusion, I1Iusion, I11usion, Il1sion, etc. (I don't recall if they had 1s in there or not - I believe there were some I/L or O/0 substitutions in the second name, too.)
Other set teams/supergroups have done the same thing.
It's just a matter of finding the name(s) you want that work with it.
If you're *really* curious as to what's being substituted, either a /whoall while they're in the zone (with chat logged,) or right clicking and rating the players will tell you what they're doing. Either way, take the log or playernotes.txt file and just capitalize everything. You should then be able to see the 0/1, I/L/|/etc. much more clearly. (You may actually be able to pick up on it without the capitalization, depending on font.) -
Quote:Actually, I'm fairly sure Zombie Man hit it on the head. You want a small team (which this game certainly does not have,) look at the size of the team just before it was purchased by NCSoft and turned into Paragon Studios - 15 people. Total.I think it really speaks more to the small size of Paragon's team working on the game. not enough people, not enough checks to insure against this sort of thing happening so frequently
And the leak control was better. Note we also had closed betas (and waves of closed betas) then, with open showing up fairly late in the overall process. -
Quote:There's also - kind of skimming the military uses - the consideration that some of these robots would be working alongside humans. It's one thing to have (say) a small, tracked "robotic" thing looking at IEDs and sweeping for mines - if it blows up, darn, you lost some equipment. You don't want to feel "comfortable" with it.The thought behind most humanoid robot design is because the man made world is designed around humans. Cars, buildings, stairs, doors, weapons, tools, etc. So you could have equipment that either a robot or human can use.
What they want is a general purpose robot, sort of the same way that a modern computer is a general purpose data manipulation device. Way back when, the first computers were designed for very specific tasks and were difficult to configure for a different task. When computers became truly programmable, they became more useful to more people.
Same is true here, we could easily build the equivalent of a unmanned drone tank that zips around battlefields while their operators are safe in the US. We could even build semi-autonomous ones that could identify unfriendliness and target them depending on threat and mission with a variety of weapons. However a humanoid robot could be added to a tank crew undermanned, run resupply missions in dangerous areas, go into dangerous situations equipped with the same, well, equipment a soldier/sailor would be wielding (fire crews on ships for instance).
One of the lessons learned about current military robots from the nuclear accident in Japan is they really don't interface well in an environment designed for humans. Door knobs, knee knockers on hatches, valve wheels, location of gauges and control panels, etc. So what do you do, retrofit the world for conventional robots or design robots to handle a world designed around humans?
On the other hand, with some of the uses being considered for robots (think 24 hour nurse, "companion" for the elderly, etc.) a humanoid form - aside from the convenience FatherXmas mentioned - is less "alien" (or more "comfortable" or accepted) than a purely designed-for-function robot would be. -
Quote:I can't help but side, somewhat, with those who think these leaks are... shall we say... very *well* controlled.I swear this game has the worst info leak control ever....
Love the upcoming stuff though
And wonder what these "accidents" are being shown to divert us from. -
Quote:Don't mind me, I just like arguing about how things fit into origins someone insists they "don't fit" in (not that that's what you did, really, I just had to speak up.)The handle is wrapped in the finest animal hide that you could find in your county, giving you better grip (as compared to nothing), and thus better contol (aim).
The edge was sharpened by the local blacksmith to be... sharper... allowing you to slice objects better.
Your armor includes a belt loop that you can put your sheath through, allowing you to easily draw the sword.
In other words, 'yes' to all. My point, though, was asking what switches a human over from being 'natural' to 'tech'. Using a large stick as a blunt object, at one point in time, was the most brilliant idea any human had ever had... but now no one would think of a person carrying around a stick they found outside as a "tech" hero. In other words, the divide between "tech" and "natural" is "whatever the hell the person wants it to be"! -
Wait, chance for
... that said, can we also start getting some fresh non-purchased IOs? Been a little while since they were expanded. And maybe move some of the... lesser-loved (see: most of the snipe sets) recipes to the vendors? -
Quote:Depends. Is the sword technologically enhanced to help you hit? Does it have a special edge designed to cut anything? Is it part of an overall armor/weapons system designed to work together?I really hope they don't limit us by the selected origin. Like was already said, lots of characters cross over in origin. Hell, my AR/Dev Blaster I created as "natural", because I didn't consider any of the tech to anything special (if you run around with a sword, does that make you tech? :P).

Then don't buy them at the market. Run (or make and run!) some AE missions. Get a pile of tickets. Use pile of tickets for random common rolls. Viola, you now have a pile of Luck Charms, iron, masterwork weapons, alchemical silver, runes, etc, etc, etc. which you can use, store or sell.
-
Personally, no. Honestly, most of the time I forget I have them. (Mostly vet pets.)
I wouldn't be against it being in the store for others if they would, though, and it were technically feasable.
(I do see their argument, honestly, if MMs and Controllers were put into "pay" for their pets... imagine a /dark MM with six pets, possibly seven (more with things like Gang War or Living Hellfire,) fluffy from Dark Miasma, and then - if they'd snagged all the pets - the buff pet, a vet pet, the Vanguard MVAS pet, the leprechaun, a liger, a lion, a german shepherd and the superpet dog. I certainly wouldn't want to *follow* that. Then have more than one with all that out....) -
He's on one.
Villainside, regardless of server, is going to have fewer people playing. It's been that way for a long, long time.
About the only thing I'd want to see for the *specific* request is that, since the Rikti invasion is triggered (IIRC) at the end of a Lady Grey SF, it should send the invasion to whichever side has more representation in the SF (as I seem to recall it hitting only one random zone.) That way you can get an all (or mostly) villain SF going and make beating off the invasion a part of the overall plan. -

Quote:Magic:You know, when you put it that way, it seems kind of odd:
Thus far, Mot has been the only magical SUPER, WORLD THREAT we've had to fight. Praetoria, Rikti, and possibly the Battalion, they're all tech threats.
Mot, Darrin Wade
Tech:
Praetoria, Rikti. (Not going to list the Battalion until we know more.)
Science:
Hamidon, Nictus (if you're a kheld.)
Mutant:
?
Natural:
? I don't know that I'd put the Council/5th here, though we do have the Reichsman to consider... yet with Khan, he's kind of Tech-empowered. And I don't think they've quite reached "world" threat yet. -
Quote:... right.Closed BETA's would have only compounded this problem since it would probably only be open to bum kissers. Glad they got rid of that ish.
Were you around for the letter when I left?
Do you remember the various criticisms I've leveled at the devs (such as comparing the entire team to a hyperactive dog in a room full of superballs because of how well things keep their attention?)
If that's "bum kissing," then damn, I don't know what would appease you. Because I was in a fair number of closed betas. And I know a fair number of other people who were in there, and personality wise, there was a wide range of people - from "rabid about the game" to "annoyed" - but they were there because *they wanted the feedback.* They knew things would *get tested* - without the mass of open beta "I just want to see the shiny" that tends to add a lot of noise without much content.
Or, as Arcanavile said, quite properly (and being someone who gets invite dto them because she is Math Incarnate,)
Quote:Closed betas have always, always run more smoothly than open betas, and closed beta testers have always, always demonstrated far less entitlement about anything that appeared in closed betas. -
Had to go in and snag some new ones...
Typical: (Using my first 50 from way back...few accolades, all the incarnate so far, bunch of temps)
Kheld - triform - mostly the same, what's not immediately obvious is that there are two extra trays in use that get swapped with a bind as I swap forms:
And MM, with the extra pet window. (Holds true for controllers, too.) Pet control via binds on the numpad:
-
So, during the ustream today, a question came up about having mroe than 9 trays, which led into a little discussion about UIs. Figured it's as good a reason for (another) "Show us your UI" thread.
(If you don't know how to capture it, /screenshotui 1 will show the UI in your screen capture, /screenshotui 0 will turn that back off for your normal shots.) -
Quote:/this.Guys, I seriously doubt any of our Mods would outright Ban someone for posting a build in the wrong section.
In fact, I'm willing to bet money they wouldn't.
The most they would do is move it to the appropriate section and or delete it outright, if that isn't an option and send a warning PM to the poster.
Honestly, if they banned for posting stuff in the "wrong" area, we'd have two people on the forums - both new people, asking if there was anyone on the forum, and they'd probably post it in the wrong section. -
It's easier to be seen there and be mysterious than doing /em crouch on a building corner somewhere.
