Have you no friends/gfriends? No global channels? No supergroup?

And I completely disagree that zone PVP was "one huge epic fail." Zone PVP - especially Sirens, to be honest - was some of the most fun I've had. I've had fun in Arenas, sure - especially with some of the level 4 PVP events in the past. But zone PVP has many things the arena doesn't - starting with the hunt when someone else enters the zone.

As far as numbers? My (non PVP specced) Corruptor, another Corruptor and (IIRC) a Dominator held Siren's for a good half hour against superior numbers. None of us were "uber" PVPers, either. So the "more numbers = auto-win" is, frankly, claptrap.

IOs, though... at this point, those break things a bit too badly, IMHO.
  2. The stuff like the hero corps popup, the PVP zone popup, etc? Sure. Those can be changed so they're not missions.

I have no problem with hunts. Or patrols, if the ambushes would actually catch up with (or be waiting for) you. "Patrol and look for Praetorian activity?" I don't think I've ever seen that ambush in 20 issues.

I'm actually not quite as big on this for a PB (despite mentioning it elsewhere) for one simple reason - Essence Boost at 4. Warshades don't really get anything quite so important so early. So at most you'd be shuffling two slots.
  5. As long as you're not saying "I'm an employee of Paragon/NCSoft" (which, IIRC, shows up differently anyway,) then no, there's no problem. And given the number of other "staff" names out there, I'd frankly think someone would have to be dropped on their head multiple times daily from age 1 to 20 to be confused.

    Don't worry about it.

Interesting read, you forgot one though:

    7) Caustic attitude on the forums from pvp'ers towards non pvp'ers.
Y'know, that doesn't just go one way. I mention PVPing - even casually - and I'll end up with messages long afterward that, even if it's from (say) a guide that helped someone or a message that fixed a problem, has "I don't usually bother talking to a PVPer" or that was helpful... for a PVPer. Even if what I said (or the guide, or whatever) had absolutely zero to do with PVP. (Which is most of it.)

Or someone goes into a PVP zone and starts yelling at the PVPers who are there - rare as it is - to not fight them and how wicked, evil, scum-of-the earth for *daring* to attack them in one of the only areas in the game they CAN PVP in. Even if they've said absolutely nothing about why they were there in the first place.

So - yeah, it's not just poor, innocent PVEers who are all sweetness, flowers and light and don't know a *single* four letter word getting picked on by evil PVPers. There's *quite* a bit of mud slung the other way, as well, and often *just* as unprovoked.
  7. Well, the respec token is the first (and easiest) thing to give out. He did say there was other stuff.

And really, while 8 years is great, I'd be expecting more "stuff" for the 10th, not 8th.
  8. Play... I do on occasion. I just am not fond of trying to find arcs any more. On occasion I'll go in just to beat a bunch of stuff up with a tank or scrapper (and keep the tickets for later.)

The search system needs a complete revamp. Really, I'd be happy with a 90 day warning setting all (non Dev choice) arcs to "in progress" - and having those just vanish behind a setting. Let completed arcs that still work be re-published. Put the dev choice in one tab, farms in one tab, non farms in another. Give the ratings system a thorough overhaul - search by plays, last played, multiple categories instead of an overall star system... something.

    As for making?

At this point, I'll just say I'm lazy. I've run into the filter and had it just get frustrating... this after buying extra slots. Plus, I've had ideas I just can't *do* in AE - I wrote up a Bane arc (two part, actually, still up there) but the fact I can't start the player off in a cell to break out of starts the story off "wrong." Just little frustrations add up
  9. Perhaps not quite so superheroic, but (depending on what you're doing) some nice metal should keep the pace going. >.>

Close to a month ago I rolled a StJ/EA Stalker, which had been awesome (got to 33 in no time at all), but then I rolled a Demons/Time MM... and then I rolled a Dark/Dark Dominator... then, last night, I was looking into rolling a Corruptor!

So, at this point, I'm wondering how I'll ever actually get to go through Dark Astoria!
Which characters aren't adequate? There are a few challenges, sure - but if my mostly SO'd emp/psi Defender can (even, thanks to inspirations, managing to defeat a boss that decides to keep bumping its level up,) I'm sure your characters can do just fine.

As far as dealing with it? There's a mini-guide for that. See signature.

Are you telling that person (and me) that we're actually NOT enjoying it? Because, if so, I've got some news you may not like.
  12. Enjoying mine, but they need to either lengthen the animation or apply damage quicker on the assassin strike. There's a pause in there that keeps making me wonder if I missed or not.

Had an ongoing rivalry with a certain Stalker over on Pinnacle (all good natured, partly RP, too - started from checking out the bio and seeing a phrase that they hated being called "cute." So, of course....)

Plus, early on, I was on one of my PBs in Bloody Bay going after the meteors. Had a brute come by and attack. I don't recall the powerset - might have been energy, but quite a few have stuns and holds. Gave me a good hit, stunned me. Wore off, I switched into Dwarf (he'd gotten a few other hits in) and healed. Next thing I see in local - a worried looking "Mommy...." Sat there and beat on each other for a while. Since this was pre-IOs, and Dwarf doesn't exactly have an extensive attack chain, we pretty well were at a draw. But it was fun.

I've also found that the type of people who PvP are the type of people I do not wish to associate with. People who have admitted to exploiting bugs for their own gain, and are happy to cause people genuine hardship (if you can call it that in a video game) over trivial, idiotic things.

It isn't pleasant, and I only PvP with friends in the arena, or when I need a badge.
Go to a PVP zone. Sit there for an hour. Listen to the absolute silence. That's my main reason.

As for the rest? Honestly, I have to call BS on it. If you don't PVP for that reason, don't play any sport. Hell, badminton has trash talking. Yes, you get the occasional jerk in there - but you get that in PVE as well. Most of the people I ran across pre-I13, when the zones were actually *active,* were good players and actually *fun* to be around.

The people that *were* being jerks? Tended to be driven out. And given the small PVP community - which turned into a fairly tight one - they either left or learned to drop the jerkishness.

As for current reasons? I'll PVP with friends, on occasion. But the deadness of the zones (which I tended to prefer for PVP over arena - much more a crapshoot of who'd show up,) the vast change in how powers work (travel suppression for taking an inspiration? Really?) and SSKing (which, to me, breaks some zones - yes, BB is 15-25, but you can use up to level 30 powers there. Siren's? You now have tier9 primaries - and now a nudge into APP/PPPs) just make it not all that fun any more.

Oh. And IOs, quite honestly. When we were all on SOs and HOs, everything was far mroe accessible.

Edit: I do tend, sadly, to agree with Liquid's assessment that it's probably far too late to salvage PVP in this game. They'd need another I13, and with the miniscule PVP population, the amount of testing it would need, and just the spectre of what happened *with* I13, I don't think they'll see it as worth the time or effort.

Its bad for an empath to not take attacks, but is it bad for a Corr to not take ally shields?
Depends. Do you team? Unlike defense, resistance is usually a welcome addition. Siphon and Dispersion Bubble are still useful on their own, however.

Characters like this are where dual builds come in very handy. Make a team and a solo/concept build. I have this on my Dark/Thermal corruptor, for instance. Has absolutely nothing from her secondary on her solo build from levels 1-35. Opens up a *lot* of choices and slotting. When she's going to a SF or something, though, she swaps over to the team build with a full secondary, and the more team-friendly attacks in the primary - primarily with AOEs (cones in her case) in mind, no nuke, etc.

Pretty sure I use her (earlier build) as an example in my Dual Builds guide, actually. It really depends on how you feel about the character on a team.

    Missable Powers

I'd disagree with both ST Immob and snipes, at least personally. However:

    - Some dom (and some controllers) skip the AOE immobilize, or put it off. (Note, my general reaction to the "It doesn't play well with the AOE patches like Ice Slick" is "Then don't put it there." Doms tend to skip/put off the AOE simply because they'll often get a face full of alpha strike in return.)

    - Time bomb.

    - MM personal attacks, *except* for the whip attacks in demon - which both look cook and have a -res (IIRC) component.

    - /Poison (MM poison secondary) Poison trap. Not to be confused with the one from Traps.

And then there's the "If you use two builds," which opens up/changes a lot. For instance, if you run a support AT and play at really odd hours (or just have times where you have short enough snatches to play, but not find a team,) you may have a solo build - which will let you exclude things like rezzes and ally-only buffs and shields.
  18. Something to keep in mind as you're reading this, too, is the vastly different experiences we've all head with our khelds (and when we started.) I started back in I3, saw my first Kheld while my blaster was waiting outside a door in the Hollows and went "Oooh, want." I don't tend to build or plan with set bonuses in mind (though this is slowly changing.) I have nothing "perma," capped, folded, spindled or mutilated. Though I do have PBs from 4 or so to 50+. Love playing 'em. (Heck, I did the Incarnate unlock mission on SOs/HOs... not just with my khelds.)

Diggs, there, is a young whippersnapper who doesn't know how good he has it now. I'd say keep his plans in mind for longer term/stretch goals - because they'll need to be. You've got some buying and planning to do.

With your kheld, since this IS your first one:

    1. Run the respec trials as they come up.

You're *going* to be respeccing to shuffle slots around (remember the earlier comment about shuffling slots into the forms early - form attacks, to be clear.) You'll want respecs. I'd almost say preserve the second build for your late/final build, but since that basically starts "from level 1," you don't get to do that.

    2. Buy early and often.

Some stuff (like the -KB IO I mentioned earlier - and lightform or no, you still have many levels between 7, when you can get it, and 38 when LF comes up) you'll use right away. Other stuff, you can bid and just let the bids sit and wait 'til they get filled.

    3. Other IO considerations.

We have converters. Buy stuff you may not use later to frankenslot when you have fewer slots. Converters drop - use them to convert the "vendor trash" IOs into something useful, and use or sell them.

Also, if you don't mind spending money/points, as much as I kind of hate to say it, you can just outright *buy* some of these sets at the paragon market. The biggest benefit, IMHO, is that you can slot them as early as possible for the set and keep them - they won't stay at "low level" effectiveness, since they're attuned and level with you (as I recall.) Of course, you can't sell them off later.

    3) I'm not the most advanced user who can make absolutely sure that everything is perfect to run the game(which you seem to be according to your graphics card driver test thread).
I'm guessing #2 is more a culprit than #1, quite honestly, simply because - since moving stuff around - I've gone from a room with a much better connection/less noisy signal (since we had comcast work on this specifically) to one that's a bit farther down the line (as in "good for TV, a little dodgy for internet.") Since doing so, I've had the NC launcher time out ("Unable to contact update server") and some crashes on zoning - even without being in an itrial.

I know the game *used* to be playable on dialup - we had many people who did so, of course, with that being far more prevalent when the game launched. However, a broadband internet connection is now specified in the system requirements. (If nothing else, due to the size of issues and patches.)
  20. Vahz are certainly not immune to controls. Not sure what you're seeing. The biggest issue with Vahz at lower levels (IMHO) are the -rech darts. Did you have them at +levels? Were the controls actually hitting?

(Ran a fairly new Dark dom through a DFB or two a few days ago, so I have tackled them fairly recently.)

... Right. Because, after all, they need to bring THEIR lore into a totally different game instead of working within the lore and world of COH. Basically acknowledge that their abilities are natural to them, but since the story lines all involve magic it's safe to out them in the Magic category for purposes of this thread.
However, that doesn't make them a magic *group.* There's a storyline about the Circle of Thorns magically separating a Warshade from its host - that doesn't make the Warshade magic. The Rikti are (99.9%) tech/science, yet their storylines talk about them being cut off from their world by a magic barrier, by their weakness to (and attempts to start destroying) magic - but, again, that doesn't make them a magic group.

And that's where I stand with definitions on that listing.

Didn't forget, stopped at 20ish. Though, come to think of it, Coralax are in the Hollows. The Shapers would be - I'd put them in as magic, they're priests, after all. The rank-and-file that we see would be... hmm, not sure where to put them. They are mutated humans or hybrids, from what I recall of many of them, but we don't know fi they were mutated by Coralax version of science or by magic.

The wailers are demons. Which is going to bring up an argument. They're brougth here by magic - but the abilities would be natural to a wailer, so the way I see them, they're natural. (The abilities are native to the species, not given by magic.)
  25. First question, of course, is if you're going all human, bi or triform. Diggaroo there kind of jumped the gun with an assumption there

If you do go multiform, remember set bonuses carry across no matter what the form is.

If you do take a, or both, forms - even if you don't go "inhuman," - be prepared to do a respec. The way respecs work, after you've gotten the forms and a few slots spread around - you can respec, and shuffle slots into the forms before the level you would be able to take the form itself.

Recharge will help with Bright Dwarf's attacks. Either global, or slotting into the powers themselves (or both.)

The comment on shields is... fairly true. Assuming you have light form going permanently. The other issue with shields, of course, is that if you're multiform, they detoggle as you switch between forms. That's probably the biggest irritation for most multiform Khelds.

    Other bits and pieces...
    (A) I have a guide on "raising a peacebringer." Follow sig link. (Hate shilling my own guides, but it is there.)
    (B) IOs - I don't generally go into IO builds, definitely don't start suggesting purples and expensive sets. However, some to look for:
    1. Steadfast Protection: KB protection. You have Incandescence. Slot one in there.
Alternate, of course, being Karma in Combat Flight - but you may want to use that for something else. Like if you need an extra bit of recharge from a LOTG.

    2. When winter rolls around (or if you feel like spending INF... is this available via merits?) get some candy canes and get a Winter's Gift slow resist, if you're taking dwarf. Just for some resistance against -recharge. White Dwarf doesn't have a lot of attacks. Every bit helps. (Though if you go incarnate, those powers do still work.)

    3. I *like* having a source of stealth. If you dont' take the power, and have multiple sprints - use one with a stealth IO. Personal preference.

    (C) Powers I like:
    - Conserve power.
    - Quantum Flight. However, *right now* on live (and test) there's a small issue with it and pets... namely, they phase with you. Including photon seekers. While you won't normally fire them off and hit QFly... well, just hope it gets fixed. Affects temp pets too. (Note, this also affects Warshades, Masterminds, Controllers/Dominators...)

    (D) IOs, part II.
If you do go multiform, get to love IOs. Even if you're not chasing set bonuses, they can really help with the slot crunch. This is true with other ATs as well, but where other ATs have it as "kind of nice," like a good restaurant recommendation, for a multiform (especially triform) Kheld it goes up to word of $deity importance.

That's everything I can think of off the top of my head.
