Thank you guys for informing me about the search feature on the forums. Unfortunately I don't use the forums alot and I'm not entirely aware of all the features.
[/ QUOTE ]
Which is why it's at the beginning of that cut-paste reply. Trying to get people more aware (and less afraid) of the search feature, and learning how to use it effectively. I've had more people thank me just for the -"re: " bit than I can keep track of. -
Well, it looks like you've put some work into trying to work around the restrictions... the problem is, I just dont' see this really... well... I see problems.
1. Can't be used in missions.
This is already a huge drawback. As everybody else flies/jumps/rushes/teleports to wherever - say, a Safeguard mission, you're left sprinting. Or using another travel power, or temp power.
2/3/4. Being used to get to missions/contacts/etc.
I'm thinking (from your later comments) you've got the TP-to-mission (or TP-to-wentworths) style teleporters in mind there. Those do, as you mentioned for this, have a long recharge time. They're also "single target," and somewhat limited. Wentworth's only goes to Wentworth's. Mission TPs can't be used for "Talk to this person" type missions (or "Deliver X to Y" missions.) I don't know if it's a limitation of the power or something about contacts themselves.
There's also ambushes to think of. I mean, they're in there for a reason. Yes, we can skip the occasional one, but with most travel powers, there's at least the risk of having to deal with them - or at least being able to hear "Hey, who's 39 DE ambush is running around Steel?" and cleaning them up.
Now, the teleport to/from the mission does eliminate (some of) the issues with traffice, NPC cars, city design and the like (though I could imagine there still being issues with some - missions in alleys, in gated in sewer grates, etc, and the vehicle either getting stuck or just looking *odd.*
6. Cost. While not a big deal for (many) 50s... think about how much time you spend travelling. It *would* add up. And for 14+? You now have a travel power you really can't use.
"Why aren't you at the mission?"
"Have to sprint, don't have the INF for my travel power." *kick*
Not sure what I think about using salvage, the showroom, etc. I think you're giving *yourself* so many drawbacks nobody would take this as a power pick.
As for the vehicle list... we already have temp jetpacks and such, and a long list of requests for them as a costume item. I can't see those being part of a "vehicle power."
That said - as an invented temp power (one shot) just to get to a mission, strip it down tremendously and you may have something. Taxi and Limo. "Invent" a taxi ride, single use. Use it and show up at the mission, if it's valid for the mission teleporter. You pull up (depending on the temp) in either an old Checker-style cab or a (slightly stretched) limo. Leave things like jetpacks and such as costume items. -
Sent a pile of them your way.

Most servers are pretty much dead or filled with farmers 24/7.
[/ QUOTE ]
No they aren't, and no, they aren't. -
The indicators are for load. So you're on the servers which are working harder (and more likely to get capped during an event.) Though you should know that by now.

Personally, I avoided them for the most part. I'm on every server. Pinnacle sounded good, when I started (and I was right!) so I started there, and soon moved to every server.
Though, Tartyr, I'm not sure how you're saying that when your "Loc" says "Guardian server." >.> -
[ QUOTE ]
I USED to be on the forums. A certain devil worshipping Hamster made the board a scary place to visit. That was years ago.
*recalling memory sends chill down back*
[/ QUOTE ]
Ugh. Him. Yeah, I almost never go to the board forums either. Have him ignored in game, too.
<-- mostly Victory or Pinnacle, though I have characters everywhere. -
<-- uses Dimension Shift, btw. Not often, but it does get used.
So we do exist.

Ive been playing Issue 14 since it has come out,and I have to admit it is truly excellent, but it does lack a few things that are needed in my opinion, such as...
1)We must have the ability to create charachters that are peacebringers and warshades, and also create charachters that are Villain epic archetypes as well, just for a more well-rounded,story-making capability.
[/ QUOTE ]
There are issues with them, apparently. That said, giving pre-set NPC powers (IE, you're not combining PB/WS powers, you're basically giving your custom critter one of the three 'levels' of Kheld NPC, or a copy of in-game Night Widow/Bane/Crab/etc powers.)
Doable, I don't know.
[ QUOTE ]
2)We need to make "Hero" as well,we just have "arch-villain",and it really frustrates me to see one of my Heroes designated as an "Arch-Villain"
[/ QUOTE ]
It's a rank. *shrug* No feelings either way.
[ QUOTE ]
4)What about the ability to make two columns with your missions? One side would be missions for heroes only, and one side would be for villains only,or one mish could be for both categories. We should also designate in the description who the mish is primarilly for.
[/ QUOTE ]
Unless I'm misunderstanding... you can already do this. Set to Heroic, Neutral, Villainous. -
[ QUOTE ]
Meanwhile if we put turbans in the game you can stake money on how many 'Terror1st' characters will spring up JUST so they can offend someone.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've got to disagree that this is, honestly, an issue. Sure, some people will do it - and get generic'd, if not banned. People make scantily (or as near as they can to completely un-)clad female characters in game with derogatory names and bios.
Should we remove those pieces?
Besides, right now I can make a character and have him or her pull a "suicide bomber" routine in a mission with the Cyborg pack (or, if I'm a Traps MM, have one of my pets do so, no other pack needed.)
[ QUOTE ]
Hell! How many Santa Clauses do you see every year? Now add in cultural bias, hatred, religious fervor, and a symbol of modern pain.
[/ QUOTE ]
How many Jesus-this or that characters? They pop up regardless. There's no need for cultural bios, religion or, as you put it, a symbol of modern pain - some people will just do it anyway.
[ QUOTE ]
Sure. Let's put turbans in the game right next to little Hitler moustaches and swastikas. YES I'm comparing it to Nazism. Give Godwin's law another tick mark.
[/ QUOTE ]
The swastika far predates Naziism. Until the mid 40s, it was used by the Finnish air force as their insignia, as well as (think I'm remembering this right) the Latvian, among others. It was even part of many US Army Air Corps squadron insignia, such as the 1st Aero Squadron. It's used in cultures across the globe, including Native American. One *specific* rendering of it tends to be Nazi related. Other than that, for some it is, in fact, a religious symbol.
[ QUOTE ]
But Terrorists are this generations nazi germany. It's the group we can look down on and despise and feel superior to.
[/ QUOTE ]
And we don't need turbans to do it. In fact, I could make a character in jeans and a T-shirt and call him a terrorist. "Terrorist" is not an ethnic or religious group. "Terrorist" is not based on race. There are Japanese terrorists. European terrorists. "Eco-terrorists." All there needs to be is a cause and people willing to do violence, not caring who it hurts.
Plus, we don't need the threat of terrorists to find someone to look down on. Racism and class-ism has always existed.
[ QUOTE ]
Give people the tools to make those characters in the game and you'll see them running around, pissing people off, and reminding them of the reality that they play this game to escape from.
-Rachel-
[/ QUOTE ]
Again, they're already in game. The only way you're going to eliminate any chance of that is to make everybody exactly the same, provide serial numbers to characters and supergroups so people can't offend with a name, and remove all forms of chat and email completely. -
[ QUOTE ]
And ninjas and pirates are neither ethnic or national, thanks to the modern bastardization of the former and the romanticization of the latter.
-Rachel-
[/ QUOTE ]
... confused as to the statement on pirates being romanticized being the reason they're "neither ethnic nor national." Piracy was rampant from before Roman times (Julius Caesar was, as I recall, held captive by some - then turned around and attacked. Cato, as well, dealt with them... from memory.) There's been no one nation, belief, or ethnicity that's been associated with pirates.
Of course, some of it would also be "from a certain point of view." Privateers were legal auxiliaries to navies (or alternatives to them,) but seen as "pirates" from the other side quite often (and treated as such.)
You could, in essence, create almost any period costume from multiple regions with some degree of access to the sea and mention the person's a pirate... and be perfectly ok with it. -
[ QUOTE ]
Speaking of impulses, I would *love* to see NCSoft games made available on Stardock's Impulse service. Would seriously love it.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've picked stuff up from Stardock since Brad was just a small OS/2 developer. (Object Desktop - the original - was freaking amazing. Ran that from OS/2 2.1 through Warp 4.) While I'd love to see it there, as well, Steam's better known, so it makes sense to be on there initially.
That said... *looks at Windowblinds, Sins of a Solar Empire, etc.* I wouldn't object. -
Well... we already have the holographic contact. Alternately, let one of the Menders tell Calvin's story - though that might be more rewriting than it'd be worth.

Common and Uncommon Salvage both took supply hits too.
I have an issue with that.
[/ QUOTE ] Then use tickets to roll for it. They are stupid cheap.
[/ QUOTE ]
/seconded. I've been splitting tickets between rolls and salvage, since I have most of the unlocks I want already (and if I need one of the few I don't have... what, one MA mission and it's available?)
I've most certainly been supplying the market. -
[ QUOTE ]
Really, what they should do is switch up some of the components necessary to create recipes with salvage. There is a whole lot of salvage that goes almost completely unused. The distribution should be more balanced. Luck Charms shouldn't be required for as many recipes as they are. Arcane salvage shouldn't have a stranglehold on the market while Tech salvage is tossed in the dirt. And uncommon salvage shouldn't be worth less than common salvage. I understand they made Arcane salvage more popular in an effort to get players to fight enemies they didn't like to fight, but the time for that is over. We need to balance the salvage market and with it, the recipe market will likely follow.
[/ QUOTE ]
This.
I really wish they'd do with common IO recipes what they did with base items/empowerment buffs. "use these 3 items, or these 3, or these 3." And then examine the ingredients needed for sets. -
[ QUOTE ]
My question is how can I get my game that I've been using the regular updater for onto Steam, so it automatically patches as long as I have Steam running/online?
[/ QUOTE ]
You don't, if I'm reading GF's reply correctly. -
[ QUOTE ]
It's a simple quality of life improvement we need.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why do we need it? The "Top 100" list means jack squat. If a SG used to be active, got 100 million prestige, but has dropped to only two or three active members for the last six months... are they really a "top" SG?
Frankly, I always thought that list was somewhat ridiculous. It's certainly not something to determine how good an SG might be. -

not to keep this going but i use steam for left 4 dead..but whats the purpose of it here?
is it optional or you making it needed to run ?
whats the actual purpose and motivation for using steam here?

Goddamnit.
You. Don't. Have. To. [censored]. Use. Steam. To. Run. CoX.
And the reason they're doing it is because Steam is great publicity.

More visible, and with an online store (that has other high profile games on it, as well,) more of a chance for an impulse purchase - especially at the twenty dollar price point.
Though, Niv and crew, you may want to (a) update the manuals and (b) have them fix the link in the Steam window to get them... tis broken at the moment. -
Hey, more visibility with a rather popular download/online store site. I've got quite a bit of Steam apps. (Picked up most of the Dawn of War series there, Saints Row 2, L4D, the orange box, Bioshock...)
Glad to see it. -
Expand "Level 50 zone." As in just for 50s? No.
Just plain old "More content?" Sure. Though I'd say the villainside content in general needs expanding first, especially with more low level variety. -

The main value of things like kneejerk injunctions to use the search function, or parsing rules about dead topics, or arguing that a post doesn't belong HERE but rather THERE, is that is provides an important psychological boost to the users who are driven, by whatever issues, to try and assume an authority they do not in fact possess and to feel cool by trying to tell other users ow to behave.

Swing and a miss.
[/ QUOTE ]
More along the lines of "swing and miss so badly you hit yourself." -
5. At least at the tailor, drop the time to "switch" costumes - sometimes I'll notice I have (say) a different face, having switched from helmet to hat or masks with hair, and it's an unneeded delay at that point.
6. Tailor option: comparison (on the side.) As well as "current view," for when options get moved/changed/etc. and you end up with "generic tights" (or whatever) where the changed piece was... -
Well, there's a limit either way.
Generally, do this:
1. Search. Go 3-6 months, and read through what's been said. 3 mo is usually good.
Going to paste my boilerplate "how to search" here, because doing it this way really does make what you get back more relevant.:
[ QUOTE ]
1. Click on "Search" up at the top of the forum.
2. On the left, under "Forum(s) to search," select "Suggestions and ideas."
3. On the right, Keyword Search Terms. This is probably where your problem was if you did search. Try the following, exactly as typed:
+topic -"re: "
This will search for anything with the string "topic" in the title. The -re: portion of it removes replies, so you'll see the root of every thread that comes up, letting you see just how many threads there are on this. (The last helps for other subjects, as well.)
Be sure to put the space between the colon and last quote.
4. Click the "In subject" radio button. This is a search, not a cute blonde in a bikini. Here, you want to ignore the body.
5. Leave Username Search blank.
6. Date range, Newer Than, change the 1 to a 3, and the time to Months.
7. Result format doesn't matter. Click on "Submit."
[/ QUOTE ]
Use the most common portion of the search. For instance, if you were looking for server consolidation topics, think about it a minute before you search. What else could it be called? Server merge, server combination, combine the servers - is anything in common? Yes, the precise string "server" (which will bring up server and serverS - it just matches the pattern of characters.)
Read through the replies. See what the original ideas were and how the conversation went. Does it match yours? Does it go *beyond* yours?
Do you actually have a different view, or something to add? Or is it pretty much the same, or answered in that thread?
If you get a recent post - go ahead and bring it back up if you have questions. If it's a couple of months back, and you don't think it's really addressed - link to it.
"I did a search and came across (link,) but I have a different take that might work better." (Or "I have a different take on it."
Linking gives a point of reference without necro-ing a thread that's potentially no longer relevant from being too old (while we have forum purges, threads with rednames don't get wiped.) -

Well just know this I'm a hot head I've always been told that I'll live up to that.
[/ QUOTE ]
Then I'm done with you, as you seem utterly disinterested in improving either the idea or yourself, or engaging in actual discussion. Learn to control it if you want anyone to take you seriously. I don't know or care about your reputation as a "hothead." Just remember, the saying about first impressions being important is true for a reason, and you've made a horrible one. -

I wasn't getting angry at you guys it's just how Bill came at me and how I typed, so i wasn't jumping on you guys about your opinions its just how you come at someone with your replys.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, it was most certainly "jumping on you guys about your opinions." You were given a calmed, reasoned reply because of the many times this has been brought up.
Quoting your immediate reply:

It's not just the horrendous typing but the attitude that's getting you the response you're getting, sparky. The above quote is not a rebuttal. It is not encouraging further discussion. It's not clarifying, altering or expanding the idea. It's you throwing a temper tantrum.
Do that, and you'll be treated like a five year old. Or just dumped on ignore.
