Yeah, I really liked Masterminds at first -- made one my main villain -- but after getting the good powers, mine gradually fell by the wayside and sits unplayed. I have more of every other AT.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well -
I started with a bot/ff (long before any redside powersets were FOTM
) and found it... exceedingly boring. Gave up on MMs for quite some time (that MM is all of 26, and just hit that recently.)
After a while, I went into the MM forums, talked about my playstyle and why I didn't like that bot/ff (not busy enough - bubble and watch, basically) and asked for suggestions. Ended up with a Thugs/Poison I took to 50 and had a blast with.
MMs and Defenders, I'd think, have the most variability in playstyle between powerset combos within the same AT. If you try one and don't like it... try another combo. (Of course, you could also just find the whole pet thing isn't your style, which is perfectly valid as well.) -

But I think I'd rather just have e-mail filters that allow me to limit who is able to send me e-mail in the first place. Your suggest, while fine, is reactive. I'd rather have a proactive approach.
[/ QUOTE ]
This, honestly.
Though I'd like if any emails from "empty" due to that account being banned (as opposed to just a deleted character) went away, or at least you had that option - it'd reduce the visual impact of it.
(Specifying from banned accounts because I have one from a friend, no longer in the game, from a deleted character of hers that also shows "empty," and would be highly irritated if that one went away.) -
Or, before doing any petitioning, go into your SG settings and look at the "permissions" setting. You can set it so that only the leader pays rent, everyone can pay rent, or antyhing in between.
Find someone with the right rank and appropriate permissions and have them pay it. -

One more question - is the power available only on the City of Heroes Collector's Edition, or also on the City of Villains Collector's Edition? I am finding both "Collector's Edition" DVDs online, with Villains being drastically cheaper.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, the CoH DVD gets you the Prestige Power slide, Cape of the Four Winds and VIP (hero) or Destined One (villian) Badge. CoV DVD only gets you the Arachnos Cape and Chest symbols IIRC - no powers and no badges.
[/ QUOTE ]
Don't forget the physical goodies as well.
COH DVD - Heroclix of statesman.
COV DVD - art book, heroclix of all the villain patrons (and some hero names, as I recall,) copy of a starter pack of the (defunct, I believe) CCG. -
Why can my Fire blast do Toxic damage? (Sting of the Manticore.) Or my natural, human martial artist-type melee character doing Negative Energy damage? (Touch of Death.)
Looking at "fits well"... well, doesn't really fit.
Besides, there are as many rationales for characters as for procs. Take, say, Ninja Blade. Depending on character, I can say:
Lethal, like you said - bleeding.
Smashing - I hit hard enough to break and shatter bone.
Toxic - Poisoned blade.
Electric - "Taser-sword." Same for Energy. Tech sword that adds damage.
Fire - Sword that, when thrust in, triggers a device that superheats the tissue.
Ice - I am an otherworldly killer, and you're feeling the coldness of concentrated death.
Negative energy - See otherworldly killer.
Lowered resistance - You're staggered by my attack and can't defend as well.
Tohit debuff - Same.
Build up - I'm encouraged by a good hit, and attack again with even more enthusiasm.
Recharge rate decrease - Same thing.
Chance for immob/hold - Even more stunned by the attack.
And a Stalker-specific one:
Chance for Placate. Though it'd have to have a slight delay and ignore DoT.
Think that covered the damage types, as well as some very common procs. I'd find it hard to *not* find a rationale for one.

Sands of mu is gone on any new character I make. Did they change something?????
[/ QUOTE ]
There have been some oddball things going on. (Such as one of my 50s, who has a cape and definitely did the cape mission, now being told she can't pick a cape other than Valkyrie.) But that, so far, only affects that one character. The reply I got was "Known issue, it's being worked on."
Just created a new character, and I could pick sands of mu - but again, doesn't mean you're not seeing it, just that it's not affecting that character.
Standard proceedure:
1. You're going to vet rewards?
2. You see all your vet reward badges?
3. It is or is not allowing you to click "Choose power?"
4. If it is, it is not showing up afterward?
Yes, /bug it in game if you've gone through this. /Petition as well, in case they can revert something, as /bug just reports the bug. -

Please try to keep all posts in THIS thread at least, as Spock posts. That one was a Kirk post.

Good day to you all. This the The Player (Formerly Known as The Philotic Knight).
[/ QUOTE ]
Can somebody please explain to me why people change their global/forum handles then constantly refer back to what their handle used to be? Wouldn't you just keep the name you used to have? Or is this a cry for attention?
[/ QUOTE ]
Some people change because they want to "reset" - those people won't.
Some people change because they feel like something new, or have a new main they enjoy - these people may, especially if they're known for something specific.
Think of it as the difference between the Witness Protection Program you see used on TV and a woman who's just gotten married referring to herself as "Susan Jones, formerly Smith."

Speaking of which... Was this post really necessary? Its not conclusive of anything other than being an opinionated blog. If you're gonna blog, then get a website (or use LiveJournal). If you're gonna comment, then post a comment and get on with it.
Seriously.
[/ QUOTE ]
Are ANY posts really necessary, including this one?
It got discussion going, which has generally been civil, so IMHO - no harm, no foul.

You will get standard XP and INF. Starting from scratch, though, you may (*may*) have trouble finding workable content - while it will auto-SK you to the appropriate levels, you don't get extra powers, of course. So the mobs have a chance of just being too difficult initially.
That said, check Player Events - there's at least one group (I want to say Lemur_Lad is either part of this or doing it as well) that's doing just that, trying to go from 1-50 using just MA missions. (Not PLing.)
Summary: Doable, yes. May be hard to find lowbie missions unless the author has marked them as such. -
Weather was not a case of "it can't be done," but "(a) it would be too computationally expensive to do it right" and "(b) we (specifically War Witch - Melissa Bianco) think it'd end up detracting from the game" (the second thanks to experience with it in other games - which went from "This is cool" to "More freaking rain, ugh!" rapidly.)

EvilGeko, Me, a topic. I don't know what he and I have ever actually agreed on in full (or mostly.)

Prestige Power Slide is not the same as the other four. The others are vet rewards, initially for preorders. Prestige Power Slide is part of the City of Heroes Collector's Edition. If you don't have that specific edition, having Prestige Power Slide was a bug.
Prestige Power slide is from the collector's edition.
Mission teleporter is from the Mac Pack.
Both of those are purchased options, which means, per our devs, they won't be given away free at any point.
(Vet rewards, of course, are given for paid time already passed.) -
Reading through all that, especially the last bit... it's a lot to pack into less than a story day. (Or a story day.)
That's a lot of control.
... Looking forward to where things go from here. 'twas a good point to end it at. -
I'm pretty sure they'll all point you to Levantra. Borea does repeatable missions (hope I'm not confusing the two.) You'll talk to levantra, she'll send you to Borea who'll send you on a quick mission. When you get back, you'll talk to the rest of the Vanguard muckety-mucks, then come back with a "Badge earned" message.
When you have that member of vanguard badge (I believe it's in Accolades,) you'll get merits for Rikti kills, no matter where. (Note it's a chance of them - not every qualifying rikti will drop merits. Rikti are not meant to be taken internally. Not valid in some states, check local laws. Some settling during shipping may occur, Rikti: packing criteria: weight, not volume. ) -

I still don't like Cysts though. I can't believe this bug has been allowed to go on so long. It's a taint on the perception of Khelds that'll probably never die for for many players.
Most players, even those mature ones that 'understand' and don't hold it against khelds, don't jump for joy when those things appear.
Qs and Vs all day long, but keep Cysts to their special arcs, dammit
[/ QUOTE ]
Anyone who wants to yell at a Kheld about a cyst... had better not enter Cimerora. Ever.
On the other hand, honestly, I think cysts bother people *less* now. More people have been exposed to them and have at least a vague idea of how to handle them. Even if it's as simple as "Squishy will squish, so stay back at low health." -

I'm confused because others on my team received 100+. I was SKd to them and fighting the whole time so I wasn't just standing around mooching

I'm suspecting you didn't read this part

Read but that didn't stick. >.<
OK. I'm going to throw in with the "Did you do the welcome to vanguard mission arc" suggestion as well in that case. -

(sorry, cant figure out how to make the image just appear here with out the code)
[/ QUOTE ]
Side note - you can't. Posting images is disabled.
And can you get into safe mode at all? -
Really... I don't recall seeing that. >.< (Of course, I'm usually already badged up to earn merits during missions, invasions, and such by that time, so I'd likely not notice.)
Interesting. -

I am aware that /Fire doesn't mesh well with Mind/.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, it doesn't mesh "well." It meshes *superbly.* Mind/Fire is one of the most fun characters I've ever rolled on either side of the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
So... the DoT in fire doesn't play too much havoc against the Sleeps and Fear powers that are central to Mind Control?
[/ QUOTE ]
It's like any set - you work with the tools and learn when to use what. I do, admittedly, have Mezmerize slotted for damage. Confuses do nicely, as well. The fears slow down incoming damage, and particularly nasty foes are held or otherwise juggled.
The AOE Sleep isn't a constant-use. It's either "Patrol coming up behind us," or "Need to sneak by that group" for me.
I haven't had much problem with the two at all that I can think of. -
If he got any merits at all (he mentioned getting ten,) he did.

Doing the Midnighter and Cimerora storylines tend to indicate, with the "lost origin," that they've started working that little snag out.
[/ QUOTE ]
In my opinion, the mention of them in the arcs was to keep the ball in play. I don't think they really know what do to with it yet.
People have expectations on Incarnates because of the lore that I don't think the game will be able to facilitate.
If they were going to tackle them, the expansion would have been the time if they hadn't gone in the direction they have. I'm all but certain they aren't going to be in Going Rogue, because if they were they'd be hyping the heck out of that angle and there was ZERO mention of them in the survey for the expansion.
.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry, J_B, I think you're a little early for expecting hype on the expansion - or even much detail - when I15 is the next "big thing" on their plate - especially with the label "Anniversary." They like dribbling out tidbits a little at a time. They've given us the name, and the biggest feature available to all - the "morality" or "side switching," of which we still don't know the mechanics.
(Yes, I know, the content we've been told about with I15 isn't "that much," but we haven't been told more yet, either.)
Besides, there's now at least a third (Tyrant) in play with the expansion. A fourth if you count Sstheno, though IIRC she's put down. And, if Reichsman comes back... a fifth.
To be clear, no, I'm not expecting them there, either - yet, the last time we heard about a boxed set (when Cryptic was still running the show,) there was talk about *that* being when another EAT would be introduced. This does not, of course, mean that sitll holds true with *this* expansion - the old "box" got spread out over a few issues, after all, and plans for that do not equate to plans for this one.
All I'm suggesting to you, J_B, is to take a "wait and see" stance, since we just don't have the info yet and I think it's a bit too early to really bring out its plus and minuses. I'm hoping you'll be... pleasantly disappointed, I suppose.
Start actually watching for info two months post-I15. *puts $5 down.*
-
I'm suspecting the OP was solo during the raid? If so... yeah, be sure you're on a team, or you might as well be throwing spitballs at it from Founder's Falls for all the credit (and merits) you'll get.
-
I do already.
"/t playername, Hey, running missions, level X. Want in?"
Mission arcs in AE? Look for SFMA (Story Focused Mission Arc.)
And there's always "Add the like minded players to your friends list, form a SG with them, and keep having fun."
