Levelling in the Architect (Not PL'ng) Question

Simply put, I was away for more then a year, and even now CoH is my "second game" - yet one I can't seem to give up
I love the idea of the MA, and it was the announcement of Rogue that brought me back to stay.

My question revolves around the MA: Is it "much" more difficult to level, say, 10-50 in the MA then it is doing regular storylines?

I don't want to PL, and am not goin gto be grouping to farm, etc etc. Just simply want some good solo play experiencing other peoples content (and creating my own) - but if you can't effectively level there I will ignore it until a later time.

Thanks!

You will get standard XP and INF. Starting from scratch, though, you may (*may*) have trouble finding workable content - while it will auto-SK you to the appropriate levels, you don't get extra powers, of course. So the mobs have a chance of just being too difficult initially.

That said, check Player Events - there's at least one group (I want to say Lemur_Lad is either part of this or doing it as well) that's doing just that, trying to go from 1-50 using just MA missions. (Not PLing.)

Summary: Doable, yes. May be hard to find lowbie missions unless the author has marked them as such.

It is not difficult to level a toon in MA the only real draw back is no "bonus" experince with mission completion...unless the mission is a dev choice.

A good way to find lowbie content is to search for things like:
Hellions - Skulls - Outcast - Lost - etc...thats what I do with my lower characters you should find several arcs with no problem.

There are a few disadvantages of leveling in the MA.

Normal missions give you an XP bonus at the end, and finishing a regular story arc gives you a significant chunk of XP as well. MA content does not have those XP bonuses - you only earn XP from killing things.

You do get ticket bonuses from finishing an MA mission, and that's profitable in and of itself - but we're talking levelling and XP here.

Secondly, I'm not sure how patrol XP interacts with the MA. While doing MA missions, you don't seem to burn through your patrol XP at all...as far as I can determine. I'm not sure about this, but that's certainly how it looks. The patrol XP bar still functions as a buffer for debt, though, so you're getting something from it.

Finally, there's the issue of custom critters. I love fighting custom enemies. But generally speaking, custom critters are harder opponents than canon enemy groups. This is particularly evident if you're a mez-using character, say a controller - NPCs with mez protection are rare in the regular game, but considerably more common in the MA.

Now. All that said, there's plenty of people who are going 1-50 in the MA. I know lots of folks running MA-only characters. Obviously the limitations aren't that big a deal to most folks.

Honestly, I'd just go ahead and try it. If you're careful with selecting what arcs to play, you should have a pretty good experience. Best advice I can give - see the ParagonWiki article on Mission Architect Tags. It's pretty hard to find lowbie-friendly missions the normal way - so using the LBMA (Lowbie MA) tag in search has been quite useful for me.

This is correct. You don't get any XP bonus from patrol XP in player created content (unless the arc becomes dev-choiced). It will still negate debt though.

Assuming you don't have debt, will the patrol xp bonus still be consumed as if it were being applied?

Nope, the blue bar will get shorter as you level up, but that's because the patrol XP is a smaller percentage of your XP to next level.
