Mind Control question
Solo, yes. Grouped, less so.
What he said. But also note that it's extremely useful on the LRSF.
I agree that solo yes it can be useful, but it depends on what else you're taking. On my Mind Dom I had Dominate, Confuse, and Levitate which easily covered all of my solo'ing needs, so I left out Mezmerize. Should you not be taking one of those three for whatever reason, then yeah it can be a useful addition. I will note that I did pick it up much later specifically for the LRSF.
If nothing else it can be a good and cheap IO set mule.
I'd say it's close to being vital for soloing, just because it's such an amazing way of keeping dangerous opponents locked down. In a team, it CAN be useful, but it's situationally useful. If you see a dangerous ranged guy sitting in the back that's not getting whalloped by AoEs, throw a Mez on him and count him out for the fight. You might as well take it since Call of the Sandmans were crazily cheap when I last checked.
Always useful. Fast animating, punches through defence, does decent damage and mitigates a bit. It's like air superiority but psi.
Okay, sounds like it will be in my build, but I'll probably be holding off on it for a while.
Thanks!

Early levels it can save you. Between Mez and Dom, you can literally sleep a foe to death. lol.
I really like it. The sleep duration is long enough you don't need to slot for that, so you can slot it for damage and it's actually a decent blast. It sleeps most bosses in one shot. There's just a lot to like about it.
Also, and I'm not super-proud of this, you can put it on auto and go AFK for a bit with a boss.
Great for most EBs. Even when PToD are up you can Levitate, Mind Probe, Sleep and repeat without them ever getting a shot in. (This may only be while in Domination though, I haven't tried one w/o Dom up that I can remember)
Works on Bosses as well. But Bosses are generally not an issue. You just Lev, Dominate, Sleep, Lev and Dominate if Domination is not available.
EBs that are KB resistant you can generally sleep until the PoTD are down, and go on a damage spree when they drop. You may or may not be able to chain sleep them at a distance, depending on their attacks. They will still get an action, but if you are at distance, often that action may be just a step forward.
Oh, they are also a good cheap space for a +6.25 sleep recharge slot. (Although later, you may want to swap out for a +6.25 damage IO set). I was able to get my Mind/Psy barely Permaed @ 43 fairly cheap w/o any farming or playing the market, just being patient and low bidding the recipes. I am not positive how Mind/Fire compares, but I would imagine it would be similar.
Really, it is a good thing to have the Hold, Sleep, Confuse and Knck-up, as that means that you should always have some form of control that will affect the tough Bosses/EBs.
Its one of the best mezzes in the set to me. Even unslotted it last a very long time. You can pretty much sleep someone, then use rest to refill and they will be sleeping. And if for some reason you decide to slot it for sleep or use it during domination that critter isnt waking up until next week some time.

Entoxicated Ninja/PSN Mastermind

Thank You Devs for Merits!!!!
<QR>
It also allows you to get up holds on a boss without being in domination. Hold - Sleep - Hold, most of the time it will happen quickly enough that the boss doesn't even get a shot off.

'lo, all.
I'm thinking of (*Gasp!*) Rolling up a Dominator. And, in looking things over, I want to try out a Mind Control/Firey Assault Dom.
But that leads to my question... is Mesmerize (Single target sleep) even worth taking? I'm rather dubious of a single target sleep for any situation, but I thought I'd check if there's some aspect of the power I am unaware of, before I disregard it for my build.
Thank you.

I use it on my Mind/Psi Dom. It is a damage power and its rather nice for solo play. Group, well it is actually useful for stacking mag on boss, as it sleeps the boss, but you ahve ot be rather careful as it does aggro because of the damage.
============
Fallout Fae 50 Rad/Rad Defender
Cosmic Static 50 Elec3 Blaster
Reparative 50 EM/EA Stalker
Poseur 50 Mind/Psi Dom
I use Mez as a Blast with Benefits until later levels. Then it gets 5 Sandman for the recharge.
Very handy tool in the kit.
Gah!
So many tools... not enough slots!
Here's the build as it currently stands after reading all this... Any suggestions?

I am aware that /Fire doesn't mesh well with Mind/. But I think I'll stick with this combo anyway.
So... any suggestions on tweaking this build to make things easier? I primarily solo, although I team when I can.

No, it doesn't mesh "well." It meshes *superbly.* Mind/Fire is one of the most fun characters I've ever rolled on either side of the game.

Why would you use mesmerize for that, when you have access to confuse? It actually stacks in case of misses, and doesn't give the boss a *chance* of cheap-shot (like, say, a counter-mez).
If I quote #'s, they're from City of Data.
Global: @Kazari
It was either Taunt or Purple Triangles of Doom. I stand by my decision!

Okay, even I can answer this one.
Confuse doesn't do damage.
Mesmerize on auto, only target is a boss? Go AFK a while and come back to a defeated boss.

So... the DoT in fire doesn't play too much havoc against the Sleeps and Fear powers that are central to Mind Control?

It's like any set - you work with the tools and learn when to use what. I do, admittedly, have Mezmerize slotted for damage. Confuses do nicely, as well. The fears slow down incoming damage, and particularly nasty foes are held or otherwise juggled.
The AOE Sleep isn't a constant-use. It's either "Patrol coming up behind us," or "Need to sneak by that group" for me.
I haven't had much problem with the two at all that I can think of.
Well If you take Firey Embrace and have Terrify slotted for dmg and rech then I dont see the prob or If you have your STH/STI are slotted for dmg and rech while you still have Firey Embrtace I dont see whats so wrong...I am not a vet to doms...as you all have made it clear... but I think that since psi damage is not so resisted a 68 percent boost to the dmg would be awesome...maybe its me?
