I wouldn't argue about offering a merit for helping others complete their arcs. How to make it fair, though... it's hard to say. I'll have characters along helping others for multiple levels - missing my own arcs, because we're busy on theirs - then I'll look and realize I have very few merits. Given I've been doing everything but talking to the contact right alongside the others, this *can* be discouraging to teaming. (Yes, I know you can grab the same contact and simul-complete - if you have them, have the arc space, etc.)
"Assistance merits" wouldn't hurt, IMHO. Not per-mission, I don't think, but something as a token for being there. -
The title got my curiosity going - though you're not "affecting other PVE zones" in the post the way I read it in the title (or I totally missed it in my read-through) - I read it as, say, PVP in zone X having an effect on, oh, Sharkhead/Steel Canyon somehow.
Quote:This is my main concern (not objection, mind you, just the thing I think kills the idea.) Barring, perhaps, Freedom and/or the Test server, there's just not the PVP population to really drive this. I don't think the zones have had an "overpopulation problem" since the - what was it, Siren's Call, I believe, test in Beta (oh, the lag...) You'd see a spike with the badgers getting any related badges, then fizzle.Interesting idea, but seeing as the PvP zones we have are almost always empty I don't see the Devs putting the work into making another one. If there was more player demand maybe, but most players would rather have more co-op zones.
If the population were there, I'd be all for it. -
Nah, not overheating. Had a little "mystery" recently resolved, and this just led to one other question.
I've got two systems - my main and my work system. Different MB and video card, both running Zalman 9500-cooled Athlon 64x2 5600+ Brisbane based CPUs, 4Gb. One - my main/gaming/etc. system had been showing, idle, 29-31c idle, the other was showing in the 40s. (Using coretemp.)
Getting them updated to the same version of coretemp, they're reasonably the same (high 30s-low 40s.) Poking around in PCWizard 2008, though, there are two sets of temps - processor (showing, for instance, 39c on one,) and the processor thermal diodes (one per core, showing mid-high teens on the same machine.)
If I'm wanting to keep an eye on CPU tmeperature, which should I pay attention to - as it looks like coretemp takes the higher values? (Neither are "overheating," mind - though Coretemp seems to jump around a bit more. This is pure curiosity on my part.) -
Don't know how much help these will be...
Quote:Zones I'm needing info on:
Terra Volta - You will hate having just superspeed when trying to get to the respec trial gate - and at other times, too.
Dark Astoria - Watch the citizens carefully.
Also, COT on the rooftops, Adamastor by Moth Cemetery - you'll see his glow a ways off.
Brickstown - If you haven't managed to get your Ouroboros portal by 30, do the Science store contact's mission.
Crey's Folly - One stop shopping for the level 30 Aura mission. Monkeys for the Rikti, Swarms for the DE, both near the door. Freaks, of course, are everywhere. Just watch for snipers.
Abandoned Sewer Network - Look for the plaque.
Eden - Be sure to try the Eden task force. Unique maps and fun - no need to rush.
Rikti Crash Site - No longer exists. It's now the Rikti War Zone. The only people in the RCS are those high levels who have been logged out a long, long time.
Bloody Bay - Lower level PVP, you'll find people with everything from TOs to IO'd out builds. The shivan run isn't all that difficult. It's also the only zone that directly sells inspirations. Good source for masks for villain badge-hunters, if you don't mind risking PVP.
Siren's Call - Often one of the more populated zones.
Warburg - Open PVP - if you're not teamed, you're a target, unlike the other zones which are segregated by side.
All four are generally empty on most servers. -
Quote:Over the net - MozyHome.2gig free.Back-ups ? Thats a discussion I will be having with them (AGAIN). If it costs, I can see zero positive response, and I'll be bashing my head against a brick wall. Personally I have automatic backups for my documents over the web. Software I can re-install and dont particularly care about. Photos and the like are my precious things.
.
Better (IMHO) - External hard drive. They do tend to come with a backup program. Alternately, Driveimage XML is free, does a shadow copy (in CD-size chunks, though, I must say. Haven't fiddled with settings.) While (using XP) you can also put on NT Backup (even on home) and it'll work, well... you'll be saving to a file, and I don't trust its scheduling. *shrug*
Other stuff - Auslogics Disk Defrag. Free bugs you about a junk file cleanup, but it's otherwise halfway decent.
And find out who they have for an internet provider. Many of them *do* provide a firewall/antivirus/spyware (or some combo of the above) free - Comcast, for instance, provides Mcafee. So does Cox, IIRC, and AT&T in some areas. -
I'm somewhat on that same sort of project - though I've already got multiples of some ATs at 50 (blaster, defender, controller, Peacebringer.) Only ones missing right now are Corruptors and a Bane - not sure if I want to go through it yet again with a Fort and Crab, since I'm just not finding VEATs fun.
Of course, that's over several years - so the experience of my elec/elec blaster (13/14) and PB (I4-I5) are quite a bit different from my fire/fire (recent, but pre IE) - and that's not even getting into the "most of the way pure-humanform" second PB. -
Quote:However, those same people still have some crossover duties. If the animation/art/etc. people are told to give power customization priority, and the story folks need art and zone work done (say, for a Faultline treatment - and of course, they're working on GR, so there's a good bit of art to deal with,) they may be in a holding pattern there. You may not be aware of this, but the Developers in charge of Animations and Powers, the ones who have been most heavily involved in all of the new stuff, are entirely different people from the Writers, from whom we've seen very little in a long time. Just because this issue is heavy on new gameplay features does not excuse it from being, so far as we've been informed, free of new story content. It's entirely possible for the issue to meet or exceed desires on the one front, and wholly fail to satisfy on the other.
I'm assuming the story folks have been told to focus on GR, myself, thus their scarcity elsewhere. -
Quote:1. Going Rogue will be an expansion. Not an issue. It is not part of issue 16, 17, 18, 19 or further. As an expansion, it will do far, *far* more than an issue - and be worth paying for.I been reading and getting hints that Going Rogue may be Issue 17 due out later this year. With the coming of Champions Online and other superhero MMOs on the way it may be dangerous for NCsoft to have us all pay for this as well with lots of players leaving soon. I think it should be kept free to help keep people here. I know lots of players that will be going to Champions Online for good. The people on beta I know like what they see and with the clicky way teams are formed now for AE I have no reason to stay either. Where is the Issue 16 beta ???
2. I've run through the CO beta. I've looked through the CO boards and seen lots of "I'm glad I didn't preorder," "hey, Gamestop lets you change your preorder to something else," and "I'm glad I didn't put down the six month/lifetime payment," especially with their last "adjustment" a day before the end of beta, and days before release.
3. Issue 16 beta is... in beta. In closed beta, in fact. And it has been for a bit.
4. The "clicky way" teams are formed? I have no idea what you mean by that - and go up and read the mention of "super-sidekicking" by Positron in the announcements (or was it news...) - teams will now be even *easier* to make. -
My only concern with that would be if, sometime in the future, when they get ready to turn base raids back on... heh... *snicker*... no, really, if they turn... *chuckle*... wait, let me start over.
-
Heh, well, grats on the 50. >.>
It is better when you find your "niche" - either with a regular team, or with teams that get (and work with) what you try to do. -
Quote:Should also note that there's still (last I knew - I believe I've seen it recently) a bug regarding stealth and distance - you *can* see a stealthed character at *long* distance on occasion. They'll fade as you enter their stealth range.Of course, not all stalkers are at the stealth cap. The 'serious' PvPers among them are, of course, but not everyone puts in the effort. Non stealth-capped stalkers can be seen pretty easily, and at longer ranges too, if you have some perception.
It's odd, and not particularly useful other than getting a little pre-warning on occasion that someone's out there, but it is there. -
One of the offsite interviews with War Witch had her reply about weather - that while it'd be a "wow, cool" effect at first, after a while it would just get irritating - especially if done right (weather affecting powers, movement, and perception.)
At least as I recall. That on top of other comments about performance.
Edit: TBH, even the day/night cycle now is not much more than sky color and lighting - it doesn't affect perception at all (on either side) where, done "right," it should (to varying degrees, with dynamic moon phases affecting lighting.) About the closest we have is Dark Astoria. -
Quote:Only?True, many of us here suffer from severe cases of alt-itist. I think the most alts I've seen someone claim to have was in the neighborhood of around 96....
Haven't read around much.
I've got 170-some. (I believe 25-30 of those are on Victory.) And I'm not anywhere near "the most."
-
Are you *sure* it's a "simple building?" We don't get much info on what it's like inside (besides the quick zig breakout, which is only a portion of it.) We don't have a *lot* of info on what else is inside - which might make for an interesting arc or some such.
On the other hand - you'd have to explain, with that forcefield, why there are Prisoners (who are perfectly 'normal' as opposed to powered) out on the street, or face the wrath of the badgers when they can't get their prisoner defeat badge any more.
(Not really for or against, hoenstly.) -
I'm in the "Change player behaivour" crowd, quite honestly. I don't have problems getting salvage, dump most of what I'm not using on the market at maybe 10 inf each, and only bother with tickets if I don't want to pay for uncommon or rare salvage. I end up filling up pretty quickly, and don't generally run on large teams.
See what happens after I16. If it draws people out of AE, it may help correct itself. -
Quote:Waiting for GR... or Issue 16, which has plenty of changes announced on its own? (Remember the two are *not* the same thing.)Finding/Creating/Joining non AE teams since AE's release is a nightmare, I too have been around this game since it's launch. It sucks to be honest, I haven't seen the game this bad in it's entire run.
I just started playing Age of conan and will be cancelling my CoH account as of the end of this month. Hopefully things are a little different when going rogue is released as this is when I plan to return. -
It's been a while - but part of it depends on how much the stalker has built for PVP (if they're actually a PVPer or just in casually) - primarily because of how easy (or not) it will be to see them. With perception vs stealth capped (on both sides - capped Stalker stealth vs capped anyone else perception) you'll only see them within... the number escapes me, five or ten feet.
Fresh out of the box (not PVP-built with extra stealth, stealth IOs, etc.) a single yellow insp will let you see a Stalker before they're in range to hit you. Some sets (ice, SR, DA) that give extra perception will see them as well - thus the 'stealth arms race' in PVP (PVE, it just doesn't matter.)
Still, yes, any AOE will help - note, however, that they have *high* AOE defense while hidden. But if you see "Miss, miss, miss" coming toward you, duck around a corner. (Or, being a tank, just eat the AS - they don't do that much.) Post- AS, even if you're placated, the AOE should have an easier time hitting (and keeping them from re-hiding for a time.) -
Quote:Side note, the market 60 day rule no longer exists. Thanks for replies folks. I bugged it.
And, nope, both Hero and Villain never deleted--just "collecting" dust for a few years. But I have consistently logged them, especially due to market 60 day rule and, now, day job badges.
But as mentioned - log in the heroside 50, then log out, and try again. -
Quote:/nitpickIt seems like ever since Statesman left, the devs have been on a long campaign of giving the people what they want. Before that, it was all about tweaking what already existed, and adding new content, but Quality of Life was very low on the totem pole. Since the Positron era began, we have been given a great deal of candy.
It's not "since Statesman left," really, it's "Since NC bought the IP, hired over all the developers but one, and dumped money into the franchise while expanding the team."
Honestly, Cryptic left it on life support. 15 people? That's why things weren't feasable to do - and with a larger team, more money, and the support of NCSoft (without that extra layer of management, etc.) they're feasable now. -
Quote:A *single mission* "arc" would fill "most modern comic books?" A three panel comic STRIP maybe.Hyperbole; every mission IMO is the equivalent of a comic book. From the time the contact sends you off to the end of the mission would fill most modern comics.
The HEAT arcs at least have story - and you assume a lot about how you'd have to start, *or* how they would progress. Think about it a bit. Or, say, check out some VEAT arcs in AE.Quote:
Goodness, that would have sucked. Know why? Because then we would have to have, at least at the beginning, a good little member of Arachnos. It would be another stupid villain arc where our character doesn't think for him/her self and just does as they're told for their pay.
I like that the VEAT arcs have us as an independent operator and would hate if they were anything like the HEAT arcs (which suck!
)

I'm sorry, but picking a mission while using the teleporter would be overpowered.
(C'mon, someone had to say it.)

Quote:"Back options."None of the characters have other gear that might conflict with a cape (like a trenchcoat) - their costumes are fairly simple, so I don't see a problem here. I have also not bought any supplementary Packs either. If it helps, I bought the combined Hero/Villain Good vs Evil edition about 8 months ago.
What should I see? A CAPES bar similar to the AURAS bar in the tailor/facemaker options? I even tried checking the body locations for the cape options, but I may have missed it (i.e., upper body).
I should note that I *did* run across a bug with oen of my characters (my 50 Earth/FF) that wouldn't let me use a cape when changing an outfit - even though I'd definitely run the mission before (one of my other outfits had one of the standard capes.) You may have to /petition to get CS to fix it. -
Quote:Check the announcements section - they posted instructions on how to change the forum handle. Email them (there's a specific address) with your forum name and five options (including one without _NA, if you want.)p.s. Hey, as a quick aside, anyone know how I can change my Forum name? With the migration they've added that _NA for some reason and I'd like to know how to get rid of it.
As for getting INF - run some AE arcs, find which salvage is selling well, buy said salvage and put it on the market
Or give some of the recipe rolls a try. (I know, "AE is evil," but you've been playing and people generally complain about PLing and farms.) Also, check on your merits and see what you can pick up recipe-wise that way that you need. No purples that way, but if you're now 47, you're in range to start seeing them. (And if you PVP *at all,* well, you may get one of *those* recipes which sell for ridiculous amounts.)
Make an IO'd uberbuild a stretch goal, keep playing and have fun while you're making INF.
