Quote:Player (with no other info other than "I think" and "Maybe") : "Populations are down."
It continues to amaze me how some just can't believe or even come close to saying MAYBE some are correct with the fact that populations are down
Developers (with actual data from billing, server info, etc.) - "Subscriptions are up."
Which should I believe? Hint, it doesn't start with a "P." -

While I'm fond of the idea of "Server channels," where things like (say) servername TF or servername Badges could go (and not affect *global* channels,) a "Server broadcast" would quickly be pulled off my tabs, thrown to the ground and stomped on, doused with kerosene, lit on fire, the remaining bits attacked with a flamethrower, the ashes gathered and set up to burn with magnesium, and anything left scattered to the four winds.

Quote:/bind shift+sysrq "screenshotui 1$$screenshot"I know how to take a screenshot with printscreen and open it in my screenshot folder, but its not showing my trays in my pics. Any reason why?
/bind sysrq "Screenshotui 0$$screenshot"
For enhancement screens, character select screens, and tailor screens, hit screenshot, then paste the result in Paint or another image editing program. See other peoples' notes on Vista. -

Quote:If he irritates me enough to downrep him in a system I don't like to begin with, no, he doesnt' deserve a break. He hasn't bothered to try to see why it is not only unneeded, but a bad idea.Repping guys poorly while your own is off eh? Nice. Give the guy a break. Servers have needed a merge for quite some time now.
And no, the servers do not, and have not, needed a merge, ever. The reasons have been pointed out multiple times. If you care to learn anything and actually *think* about it. And if you don't want to actually think, the reasons have been spelled out numerous times.
... while we're told subscriptions have gone up. Care to point out how that works, "jeenyus?"Quote:Point it out all you want AGAIN, server populations have gone down
Know what happens when you "assume?" Yes, I'm in SGs. No, that is not the only thing I do to group. I pick up PUGs just fine. No, it's not name recognition by a long shot. Hell, I pick up people on *trial* accounts and run them through missions if they're interested.Quote:It's great that some old timers have a tight circle that they can count on for good times. That doesn't help the new guy. Neither do posts like this. Some people have been here so long the sense of entitlement is overwhelming, and apparently the entitlement covers opinions over others' as well.
I know it's difficult, but try actually finding out what you're talking about before doing your "broken sewer line" impersonation. -
Quote:Which, IMHO, would kill it deader than Auto Assault. It wouldn't help if I wanted to check out, say, my new Elec/Elec tank this issue, or if a new group of IOs came out.3) It should be dead last in receiving updates. I'd argue make it an issue behind every issue.
Besides, what would happen if I transferred a character there that *had* stuff that didn't exist in the issue before? -
How is this not doable with the test server now? You can transfer any number of characters over there (slots are free,) transfer the INF, play a bit (drops are the same,) probably ask people you know of to transfer over and *give* you the stuff you don't have (since, again - it's free, they can do it as often as you or they want) ...
I understand the request, I just don't see the need for the investment, personally. Especially since you'll be creating a secondary server with divergent code - which is more upkeep for one specialized, rarely used server. -
I see the phrase "Defeated," not "Killed," despite the name.
Yet, even if you go by power names or descriptions - there's still nothing new. "Headsplitter," anyone? "Disembowel?" "Beheader?" Description of Cleave:
Or Incinerate:Quote:This is an attempt to split your opponent in two with one fell swoop of your Battle Axe.
And if there's any question about the definition,Quote:Intense concentration can allow you to incinerate an opponent.
(American Heritage dictionary.) If you're worried about naming, death is pretty well implied there.Quote:v. tr.
To cause to burn to ashes.
v. intr.
To burn completely.
All of these are powers used by heroes since day one (Broadsword, Battle Axe, Fire melee), two of those only *recently* ported to villainside. -

We've been told by the devs (I want to say by Posi, but it's been a while) that one person doing the right thing (or wrong, depending on your POV) could conceivably bring a server without much population on at the time into the red.
F'rinstance, one of the reasons the City Vault wasn't taken live in a previous form is that it caused massive lag and slowdowns - which would probably make that server show red load levels, as it's working at providing that data as well.
If, say, Guardian's servers suddenly had 1/3 of their processing power taken away for whatever reason (a ferret attacked the racks or whatnot,) Guardian's load would suddenly go up - same amount of "stuff" going on, but fewer processors to share it. -

Forgot one. >.>
I don't know what it is with scythes lately. >.< Could be interesting. I think animating it would be the biggest hurdle (given, as I'm reading it, you're flipping the weapon and such.) -
Quote:Forgot pet damage, btw, as far as existing sets - and call it odd, but I wouldn't mind seeing a taunt set. Tanks, Brutes, Scrappers, and both Khelds can use them out of the box, while Masterminds going the "Tankermind" route normally pick up something from the Presence pool to help here, as well. That's not a bad chunk of ATs. But it'd be low, low priority. We have:
ranged damage
melee damae
PbAoE damage
AoE damage
holds
stuns
sleeps
confuses
Just about every archetype has a way of easily using some of the first four, and possibly the first six. The latter two are less common, and are much cheaper. The problem with new sets is that they use the same 'pool,' so if too many are added, it risks diluting what is perceived to be a valuable commodity with what then becomes 'dross' of a sort.
I could definitely see these added:
healing
resistance
defense
That's three. other possibilities are tohit debuffs, fear, defense debuffs, endmods, and to hit buffs. -
Quote:That would definitely remove the firewall problemThis is for XP, but there should be something like it for Vista. Go into Control Panel, find Add or Remove Programs, start it up, then search for anything from Norton or Symantec on the list. For every single one of them, click Remove. Then find Avast or AVG or one of the other free anti-virus programs that is good.
Norton, unfortunately, seems to change their interrface with *every single version* they come out with. Generally, it's going to be down in the system tray by the clock. Either left or right click, and there should be something dealing with settings for internet protection, firewall, or whatever they call it this week. Temporarily disable it - some have you disable it completely, others give you a timer - and see if it works. If so, see if there's an exceptions list, and add COHUpdater.exe (and City of Heroes) to it. -
Well, *really* covering the Rikti war would be wide ranging - depending how far they wanted to go. After all, it ends up (unsurprisingly) dealing with Nemesis sending doubles over there, so at a *minimum* we've got Rikti (both factions,) Nemeisis, the Phalanx, misc. Longbow, Vanguard, and Ye Olde Heroe.
Alternately, there's the whole "Evil corporation" angle that can deal with Crey, including the "Frame the hero" bit (that pulls Malta out of the woodwork to hunt you for a while.) Done to keep people guessing - did you or didn't you - potentially with a nod towards the Naylor double arc (or just base it off of that to begin with.) -
Quote:Heh. Yeah, add that to the list. "You remember when you laughed at SNL because it was funny, not because the people were embarassing themselves so badly..."All that and more! I can very vaguely recall having heard about Watergate when that was going on, not that I was old enough to know what the heck it was all about. I can recall laughing at Chevy Chase falling down on SNL.
(SNL stood for "Sorry, not laughing" for me for a long time - don't think I've bothered *looking* since "Weekend Update" lost Dennis Miller. And yeah, I remember the classic crew - Chevy, Dan Akroyd, Belushi and the rest.)
... I also remember when every episode of M*A*S*H was new. >.< -
That sounds about right. I know I used to like them for their information and general style - and I wasnt' subbed, so this was higher newsstand prices. But it was around that same time I started wondering why I was wasting money on them. I pick up the occasional issue when I see them in the store and just... "eh" then put it back down.

Quote:Unsurprisingly, you ignore what you've been told. If I could red-rep you again, I would.they finish with a comment on the fact that the servers are empty.
i made a post it was time for a server merge, as a new player, saying i cant find find any full teams going ever but during the short prime time of usa, ya, i got trolled and flamed like a nutcase
when a other outsider , new player comes to coh, see's the same thing as me, dears to make a story out of hes time here
at lest i know am not crazy, and all you vets defending the server pop as anything but not empty as hell, read and weap, i told you so
I've been hopping between Aion and here for the last week. For someone coming from another MMO, yes, COH *Looks* more sparsely populated. Why?
Because everyone's running around outside in other games. You're competing for kills with them for that "Get X Enemy-item" and "Defeat X Bad Guy," while another's going for the "Take the soup to Jim" mission.
COH? People are *inside* instanced missions. Yes, there's some travel. No, you don't have to compete to "Defeat 10 Hellions" - because there's around 300 in a 1000 yard radius, if not more. You see me going to a contact, then a door - *and my team vanishes from the map as we all go inside.*
Gee, why does someone who doesnt' spend half a second to think about it think "the servers are empty?"
As has been pointed out, AGAIN, even those of us on "small" servers have no problems getting teams with a *bare minimum* of effort (IE, not just standing there going "vlv 10 nincompoop lft!" in local or broadcast.) Oh, and not every team has to be 8-person, one-of-each-AT minimum, etc.
You also, AGAIN, ignore all the problems with a server merge - including a *very* solid impression that the game's about to die that such a thing sends.
Go learn something before spouting off instead of ignoring what's been told to you. -
