Server populations
Triumph and Pinnacle have the lowest, I guess?
Pinn is kinda all over the place.
course thats cause half the server is drunk.

The last server you visited is always on top. After that, the servers are listed in ascending order of load, with the lightest load being in the number two spot, and the heaviest load being in the number eleven spot. While population is not the only contributor to server load, it is a major factor.
Freedom and Virtue are usually the highest load servers, with Justice and Infinity often in third or fourth place. Triumph and Pinnacle are often the lowest load. No server has ever felt particularly unpopulated to me. I often manage to find a team when I want one, and generally have to turn away at least one invite per night when I am not looking for a team.
New story arcs coming soon (ARC IDs will be aded when I finish the arc):
So, you want to join the Hellions? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)
Sparks & Steel (level 5-20 Heroic arc)
and
So you want to join the Skulls? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)
Lowest changes continually.
Right this sec, it's Pinnacle and Triumph - of course, as should be noted, that's *load* not population.
So what are other the factors in 'load' besides pop?
I have gone to find myself. If I get back before I return, Keep me here!
Characters with the "huge" body type take up more server resources. Servers with more of these characters have a load disproportionate to their population.
(Okay, I made that up just to start another COH myth.)

Number of people in one place is probably a big one, since the server needs to keep track of who can see who and has to keep sending that information. Dividing people into teams and sending them into instanced missions reduces the load of a crowd.
Power use affects load. Masterminds with their pets will generate more load than anyone else. In theory you could force a server to lock from the load long before you hit the population cap if you grouped enough MMs in one zone and have them let their henchman run wild. Spamming AoE powers will generate more than if you were spamming single target powers.
Combine the two in a Rikti Mothership raid or a Hamidon raid and you generate more load than a server with the same population spread out.
While population is the probably biggest single factor on generating load, what they are doing and where has an impact as well.
Edit: It should be noted that things like spawning a second instance of a zone and caps on the number of people in a zone are there to keep these things from really affecting anyone's gameplay. But they do show up as extra work for the server even if you don't notice it.

F'rinstance, one of the reasons the City Vault wasn't taken live in a previous form is that it caused massive lag and slowdowns - which would probably make that server show red load levels, as it's working at providing that data as well.
If, say, Guardian's servers suddenly had 1/3 of their processing power taken away for whatever reason (a ferret attacked the racks or whatnot,) Guardian's load would suddenly go up - same amount of "stuff" going on, but fewer processors to share it.
I would imagine if 1000 players were soloing in there own instanced missions that would load the system differently than if the 1000 players were teaming in 150 instanced missions. The number of zones in the midst of a Rikti or Zombie invasion or other zone wide event.
Just guessing.

What servers have the highest and lowest populations? I predict that Freedom would have the highest, but not clear on the others. Oh, and no, this is out of curiosity.
