Quote:... er - it doesn't (or didn't) have any effect on Vahz zombies. They're scientifically reanimated - more like "flesh covered robots" - as opposed to actual undead.and in the Positron Task Force the Ghost Axe is valuable against both the Vahzilok Abominations and CoT spirits.
COT spirits, croatoa ghosts, banished pantheon, ghost ship ghosts, etc - yeah, absolutely. But I seem to recall it having no effect on vahz.
Edit: Just double checked. Took one of my characters into Perez, found a Cadaver. Result:
"You hack Cadaver with your Ghost Slaying Axe for 562.86 points of lethal damage!
Your Ghost Slaying Axe does not seem to be doing extra damage against these Vahzilok!"
Same with abominations and eidolons.
By comparison, vs Croatoa ghost:
You hack Spirit with your Ghost Slaying Axe for 245.73 points of lethal damage!
You hack Spirit with your Ghost Slaying Axe for an additional 196.58 points of enchanted damage vs. Undead! -
Quote:Don't assume.No.

Correction: If people do, it's almost always for concept reasons. There aren't enough ghosts in the game to justify taking it for gameplay reasons.
Yes, I have a few for concept. And a few that, because they're already doing NE, could use an occasional extra bit of punch against ghosts. -
No. You may not like it, others do, and do use it. A capture takes an enemy out of the game completely for a while. If I need to make an enemy stop, *now,* adding -regen won't do a thing to help me.
Flat out replacing powers with powers that are completely different is a *bad* idea, something the devs learned the hard way when they first unveiled the PPP changes (which completely replaced powers.) You'll note they *added* powers instead after player backlash. -
Do you have a big lots near you? Worth peeking in from time to time - I picked up several (for friends who didn't have them, and one COH CE for my second account) at $5-$10 each.

Quote:<obcomplaint>Should've collected 'em when they were out there!</obcomplaint>Hello Paragon Marketing! I have a suggestion for you. Why not make the in game items from the City of Heroes Collector Edition and the City of Villains Collectors Edition available through micro transactions? I'm sure there are plenty of folks who'd like to get their hands on Power Slide or the Cape of Fourn Winds.
OK, with that out of the way - they used to have the "hero gear" kits (which just used the keys from the COH CE, IIRC.) I'd have no problem with this being made available. Same with the COV one, though most people would only notice the cape. If it's possible to make more codes for this, I'd say do it.
Yes, I have both already. So yes, it means I would have paid more for mine than the $10 this would likely cost. However, I've (a) had the nifty stuff for some time now, (b) know the money went for a game I greatly enjoy, and (c) have all the physical goodies as well
(Also, before someone mentions it - no, they won't show up as vet rewards at any point, per the devs. They won't give away items that others have paid for. Preorder items, yes, since those weren't extra cost. CE or special edition type items, no - but they never said they wouldnt' *sell* them later.) (Edit: IOW, /signed.) -
Quote:IIRC they consider Sonic Cage and Detention Field to be something other than intangible. They're 'captures' or some such. They tend to work out the same, yes, but are considered something else. (Not even sure right off the top of my head that they take intangible enhancements - I want to say they don't.)Would it be better to increase the magnitude? I apologize if I got the terms mixed up. Also, I don't think Dimension Shift, Sonic Cage, or Detention Field can take immobility enhancements so I'm wondering if giving DS higher mag yet letting all foe capture moves slot for immob would be the best way to do that.
That said, I normally dislike peoples ideas for DS (since it's normally "Nobody uses it, get rid of it") but I could go for these. The fourth would be impossible with what we know of the engine, though.
(Need to add "And black hole," as well, though.) -
Not completely true. (Well, about the "if you do your job it won't be needed." I agree very much that it sucks.) You can't plan for everything, some primaries do mitigation instead of prevention - and even if you floor tohit, there's still that 5% chance of getting hit... potentially with something *big.* And that doesn't even get into some of the powers that have an accuracy check themselves (see also Kinetics.)

Quote:Ahh. OK, sounded to me like you thought the bulky armored ones were the only ones.I know about all the other parts. I don't get any use out of them really. I've never found a costume where the valk patterns looked good. I did get to see someone who used it as a cool sort of reptile skin with armor plates that was really well done. But outside of that, I just don't like them.
I do get use out of the cape though, now that I think about it. It's a really cool cape.
I've found the bulky boots useful once - bot/ff MM's armored look. The other bits I seem to find myself using here and there - just ended up mixing the gloves with the MA pack robe and a few other bits, worked out as a sort of 'padded/armored" look.
-
I tried to ask robot bubbles that once, but she just bobbed her head and said "Like, numbers are haaard!"
-
Quote:You need to look through the other bits, though - the boots are not just the armored boots. There are also thinner, textured ones, the size of normal boots (not available on thigh high) and similar gloves without the "domes." I seem to use the (non-domed, non-winged) shoulder bits more than I anticipated, as well. Armor plate.I actually dislike most of the valk stuff. I actually have a valkyrie character (from before the pack). I use the headwings and belt and that's it. The rest of the parts are godawful. I do like the shoulderpads, but I'm using the ninja pads on her costume now.
I have a friend who uses the valk boots at every opportunity, and I think they look hilariously bad. Pointed toes, giant rounded kneecaps. Ew.
The round bulbs on hands, knees, and shoulders look like giant armored tumors. -
Quote:Came with the mission transporter. Rather useful. To each their own of course. But it just irks me that If I want the Valk costume, I have to pay $10 for *just* that. At least the other costume packs come with other stuff, the Mac pack is basically the costume, and I don't remember what else... A jetpack or something?
Hell, I'd almost prefer a TRUE micro-transition store, so I could buy *just* the stuff I want for cheaper, rather than pay more for stuff I don't want.
Of course, you can also buy the "full version," at $20, which gives you another month of time on your account as well - $25 worth for $20 ($15 for a month, $10 for the pack.) -
Quote:But that's the thing. Most of the arguments I hear about not wanting to move... well, if you go with some of your friends/SG and open a "branch office," they're really moot. No, it's not your 50 you've played for 10,000 hours - but it's somewhere to play if your main server is having issues.I know this question wasn't directed at me, so forgive the intrusion.
For me, I do have a few characters on other servers, but my home server has been infinity on the two accounts I have. It's the server I've invested the most in, and of course, it's where I keep my piles of inf.
If you wanted further explanation, all you have to do is wait for a big event when freedom server gets locked out to realize that a lot of players stick to one server, no matter what rational reason might encourage them to move.

Things you forget:
1. WoW numbers (or Aion/Lineage/etc.) are not the usual in a western MMO. 130k is actually a healthy subscription number.
2. It's even more healthy when the number has been reasonably steady for several years. Yes, there's a decline - in low percentages.
3. You mention TR - that would not have paid back the HUGE investment without getting, and maintaining, Aion numbers (IIRC, western launch = 400k-500k.) It didn't. The subscriptions dropped like a *rock.* COH, on the other hand, paid back the initial investment some time ago, has continued to make money - enough to be seen as worth *re*investing in (buying the IP, hiring the majority of the project staff - all 15 we had at the time - and hiring more, new office, etc.) Numbers are still healthy enough to pay that back.
4. "Dead" servers - there are already long discussions about that. Dead servers still tend to be quite lively. Yes, going over to (say) Aion, you see more people - but *everything* is done outside there. Hunt missions, gather this, run to X - it's all outdoors. COH, on the other hand - you're inside. You go to a mission and, as far as anyone else in the zone is concerned, you and your team vanish. (Which makes a lot of sense, and makes missions MUCH more enjoyable with no spawn camping, boss camping, resource camping and the like.)
Short reply - COH is, and will be, fine barring some major catastrophe. -
Quote:Now... here's part of what I don't get. OK, you have a SG and base there, that much I understand.
What I WON'T do is be forced to play on different servers. I want my characters in the SG I've worked so hard to build, to play with the friends I've made, on the server I enjoy.
I do NOT want to have to delete characters to do that.
Now I've still got six empty slots on Virtue, but my wife is all out. We don't want to lose any of her characters, and yes she does play all of them.
But why can't you and your friends make a second SG on a server on the "other coast," specifically for network issues and whatnot?
- "I don't know anyone?" You'd be alting there with friends.
- "It's dead?" Aside from being BS, again - you'd be there with your group anyway, and probably meet new people. Teaming wouldn't be an issue.
- "X server has events..." Well, so do the other servers. And if you want a specific schedule, well, you're here on the forums. Announce them! Start them yourself!
- "My base is there." If you love base building, why would you turn down the option to try new and different ideas in a new base? (Heck, if prestige is an issue, I'll be happy to help mule some characters to get you to 15 slots, assuming *I* have slots there!)
- "Virtue is the RP server" - true, but most servers have RP groups - and, again, (a) you'd be there with your friends anyway, and (b) you're (again) on the forums - ask around for who RPs on your server (such as the Pinnacle RP Congress. More people, though, RP "casually" without the formal groups.)
I don't get the "I don't want to move" bit, honestly. Especially if you're doing so with a group - which gives you a 'safety net' to begin with.
Edit: Heck, if you don't mind paying, move some of the 50s over with excess INF and let them convert it - yes, even at the ridiculous conversion rate. It'd still give you a boost to get going with the new base. -
Um... I don't think "City of strippers" is quite going to fly. Not least in a "T" rated game.
-
Also, don't forget you have dual builds. Set up a solo build when you can, skipping things like the shields, and go a little more offense-heavy. When you team, switch over to the teaming build. (I do the same thing with my Dark/Therm - at 34, I have exactly one power from my secondary in my solo build. >.< Opens up a LOT of power choices!)
Obviously with cold there are going to be fewer skippable powers on that solo build - but there are still a few (two shields and Frostwork.) -
Quote:Think I mentioned this earlier in the thread - the problem, for (and per) Jay, is time and demand. He didn't seem like he'd actually mind going back and doing them, but - well, just look at this thread, and the costume request thread, plus consider GR, the final booster pack, etc.I agree. Personally, I think EVERY one of the old "tops with skin" and "bottoms with skin" options needs some kind of makeover. Add real textures and bump-mapping to them all. Just look at what they did with, say, the "Hearts" pattern, making a "Hearts Plus". Why not a "Plus" option for everything???
Only thing is, I'd like to see this done as part of the BASE game, not requiring any kind of for-pay booster/add-on like what was done with "Hearts", etc.
And please, keep the old "pattern only" pieces (e.g. the original "Hearts") for those who want them!
(Though I also think it's time for more sub-menus for some of these options - the lists are getting very long. If they could do it without breaking current costumes and/or the tailor....) -
Quote:I beg to differ.um. No. Brutes and stalkers do not get energize. So... um. There's no point here. The cottage rule isn't working through energize, since energize is not in the Villain sets. .

And just peeking in the character creator, you'll see stalker - electric armor - Energize as well.

Mine's simply the first character I made in COH. *shrug* As for where the name itself came from, after making the character I realized I had no idea what I wanted to name him. Looking around for inspiration, I glanced at my DVD collection. Saw "Memphis Belle." While obviously not fitting for this large male character, "Memphis Bill" sounded interesting, so I used it.
Nope. Never lived in or been to Memphis. -
Quote:Aside from, perhaps, a "See the security chief" hunt, I can't honestly think of a single mission that sent me to the RCS (pre-RWZ.)Hmm? I seem to recall a couple of high-level missions sending me the Rikti Crash Site.
Of course, for the longest time it was one of the *longest* hauls to get to, as well - go to Bricks, then cross to the far end of Crey's Folly, and THEN get into the zone. They had a portal directly there for... what, one, two issues? And then - *Invasion.*
You may have chosen to go there for hunts - especially as, in my experience at least, there was nobody else there (the only time I saw someone else there was when I visited it with a friend - and the person I saw was the person I went there with.) But missions sending you there? None I recall.
Heck, there STILL aren't any missions sending you to the Shard. No intro to the contact (I've got a few characters in the 40-50 range recently, enough that I should've seen a popup for General Hammond - nada.) Nothing. And there's actually stuff to *do* there! -
No, there are no names left at all, Player 2098732897.
Oh, wait... that could be considered a name, too.
Seriously - what were you trying to get? Fifty names? Really?
And as for Mr. "doesn't sound like a superhero name," what does, exactly? Since, quite frankly, you can find all sorts of "non superhero-sounding" superhero (and villain) names, designations, etc. by looking for less than a minute.
No title, such as Mr, Dr, or the like? Don't tell Mister Fantastic, Mister Sinister, Dr. Doom, Captain America, Ms. Liberty, Miss Liberty...
No "made up words?" QNAX, MODOK, Ruul...
No descriptors? Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Red Skull, Green Goblin, Iron Man....
No dashes? Spider-Man, Mar-Vell...
No "butchered" words? Galactus should jump to mind right away.
What else? Foreign words? Names with numbers? Multi-part names? If all you want is single word, sledgehammer-to-the-face obvious, then yes, you'll have problems. If they're obvious names to *you,* they were quite likely obvious to any one of hundreds of thousands of prior players, as well. Yes, some of them can get silly, but so can "real" superhero/villain names (see also Paste-pot Pete.) -
mmm... Doubt I'd change CoF's animation (it's very easy to tell it's on, after all) for my own DAs, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to have more choices.

Why not? It's not a hazard zone any longer, and I'm sure the (re)construction crews don't mind.
As for the suggestion... I'm ambivalent about it. I like being able to bring along (say) a 25-30 I'm working on when my friends are in the RWZ. No, I don't get merits, obviously, but that's not why I'm there. I don't have to character or side hop to help them out - I can just come over. (It was quite nice during ToTing.)
On the other hand, I see the OP's point, as well - ship raids (well, pre-SSK) could be hazardous for someone who IS the right level for the zone. A level 4 is - well, just getting PL'd. (Or being veng/fallout bait, in which case - just warn people ahead of time.)
Perhaps an alternate answer would be taking advantage of the ship information officer to "sign up" for a raid somehow - split the zone ("Due to increased levels of dangerous activity, Vanguard has raised a defensive field around the ship as well") so that sub-35s can't get to it, and you must be signed up with the officer to get in (even if you just want to try soloing pylons - as long as he has your ID, you can get in.)
And "Yes" to having AE in Pocket D.

Quote:Funny, we seem to be talking about an individual power in the set, not the set as a whole.Burn is a tool in a set. I haven't seen convincing evidence that the set needs significant buffing,
Did you bother reading my take on the suggestion a bit higher up? Here, let me give you a direct quote:Quote:and I don't fancy having Burn changed, as it suits my playstyle, so it better suits yours. Why is your play of the game better than mine? If the power as I play with it satisfies me, you can just skip it; you're not forced to take it. If you get what you want out of the power, I don't have the option of taking the way it was.
Gee, doesn't look like it'd affect your playstyle (having them try to scatter,) yet it'd make mine easier (keeping them nearby due to the slow effect.) It even looks like I say your use is legitimate! Imagine that. Not discounting your playstyle while enhancing mine - a novel concept, I know, as opposed to "No, you're wrong, shut up." And it's what I've been pushing for burn for literally *years.*Quote:Personally, I'd rather see it go the "hot feet" path - keep the scatter because of how people DO use it, but add a slow. If that means taking away the immob protection (moving it elsewhere) or something, fine - but keeping the mobs close to me, where my tanks can maintain aggro, is far more important IMHO. Right now, for me, it's a skippable power.
