Quote:Eh, perhaps. I haven't liked it any time I've run across it, though.Forgot to mention: personally I think this is a good idea. I know some people don't like the concept, but for me it allows for much more freedom in the kinds of benefits the devs can give out when they know they cannot be shuffled around, stacked beyond what a single player can acquire, or exploited in other ways.
If the choice is between bind on equip and not bind on equip, the choice seems obvious. But if the choice is between bind on equip and all of these bind of equip goodies we can make, or we just don't ever get them at all, that choice is a different one, and one I come down on the side of diversity of power options.
Same with ED. ED or no ED seems obvious. But that's not the choice, the choice is ED with inventions, or no ED with no inventions. That's a different choice (some would still pick no ED with no inventions, but at least they are making an honest choice).
The one thing I will say is that I think if bind on equip is *only* used for the highest possible strength gear, then I think its a partially wasted effect. If it is also used to make low and intermediate stuff that players can work towards that don't involve the absolute highest levels of end game, then I think its an effect that can be well worth it for the entire playerbase and not just a small segment of it. For example, if Positron's task force(s) granted the player a significant powerful enhancement that you could only earn once per character, as a bind on equip it can be more powerful and interesting than if its can be farmed, traded, and gifted. It can be a reward balanced around the average effort of acquiring it, rather than balanced around the best case farming scenario.
The bind technology behind these perk enhancements can be used for good or evil: the technology is neutral itself. I hope they are mainly used for good.
There is one other concern as well - are these enhancements given out immediately, or claimed like vet rewards? If they're given out immediately, they're going to be taking up space we're already limited on (the 10 enhancements) during a time we really don't have places to put them - and since they're given out *once,* well, deleting won't help, and we can't store them. -
Quote:And they do. Running a successful MMO - or any other business - does not, however, mean "adopt wholesale anything that a customer says as the greatest idea EVAR and implement it."Theres been a lot of haggling about what the developers said or what was their intent. I dont see that as being overly relevant. They have one real job: run a successful MMORPG, and that, in part, requires that they listen to their customers.
Having the devs say "No, absolutely not" is exceptionally relevant, as it's their product. -
Quote:It has? Where? From the time of launch it has been increasingly difficult to get names for your characters.
The game doesn't care about fonts. And the players can already change fonts "just because." Fonts are completely client side. How would it handle determining one character from another if everyone looks the same because I'm using, say, Comic Sans everywhere? How does it handle tells and invites?Quote:What if multiple font styles could be incorporated into the names, so that first you would pick a font, then type out your name. Just adding a few Font-styles would allow more names to open up. -
Quote:... ugh. "Soulbound" items have made it to COH.
They cannot be sold, stacked, or traded.
Have I ever mentioned how much I hate soulbound-type items? -

Quote:This is my biggest gripe with your list. (Only, really.) That's not really a reason for a change, as not everyone's going to go after those IO builds. (Or to go a different way, you can make any dom a permadom with IOs, should they all be rebalanced around permadom? Or replace Stealth powers because there's a stealth IO?)while true, the point is that the power is overshadowed by IOs you can get on ANY character these days.
Now, buffing it anyway so *everyone* gets a damage bonus (and AR, due to damage type, gets more of one?) Sure. Especially with AR's snipe - which was given that due to a resisted damage type, as I recall. -
The closest thing I can think of to it is the comment on Empathy not being "villainous," (thus the development of Pain Domination) and, I believe, Energy Melee not being given to Scrappers. (Edit: And Poison, I think. There are a very few sets that are not getting ported or are questionable or problematic.) Other than that, we've also been given a general goal of "All sets to all appropriate ATs" from the devs.

Quote:As a maker *of* some of the canned responses, you're reading too much into them (at least mine.) While I may start off with an opinion, they're created (in my case) as a shortcut to the discussion, instead of 10 pages of "Well, this" "No, this," with the same arguments coming up. If there are developer comments, they're put in there. The usual arguments for or against are put in, with reasoning behind them. The old row about power set proliferation was that the devs wanted to keep the uniqueness of the ATs. Whether the devs actually said that or not, I have no clue. I never read a statement like that. But because it came up so often prior to happening, a portion of the forum base simply got annoyed when ever it was brought up, and had a canned response it seemed.
Thus, the person posting can get an overview of what's happened before, and if they can find a way to modify the idea or come up with an alternate way to "make it work" (barring a developer's "no, we're not going to do that" such as AT/powerset change respecs) they can do so without getting sidetracked by pages of back and forth.
(An example of modifications that got in - vehicles. We've had multiple reasons they traditionally wouldn't work, yet some people want to just "leave/show up in style" - so a temp power that works much like a mission teleporter might work. It still has multiple problems dealing with the character itself, but it gets around a lot of the other objections.) -
I don't have an argument with it - but I'd prefer to see (still) better lighting, etc. in both the editor and the tailor. (The current "wash out/darken the background" doesn't really do it for me.) I've had costumes look much different once I step out the door.
Probably a 5 minute window, though, rather than 30 sec. -
Quote:Quick scan through and I think Wendy got it. Arachnos soldiers/widows are Natural because they start off that way (remembering correctly) - normal, but highly trained people. Of course, then you branch off and get into tech (Crab backpacks,) though you could argue the training itself is what let you use it.This is very helpful. It definitely highlights the distinction I'm having a hard time with.
Interestingly enough, Warshades are science. But all the other EATs are natural. (Including Widows)
As far as Warshades, the reason they're Science is because that *is* the source of their powers. Nictus (Warshades are reformed Nictus) underwent various experiments (science) which made them what they are now. They would have started out "way back when" as normal Kheldians, but the experiments changed their powers so radically they were given a new origin. The "natural" form = Peacebringer, which is more self contained. The altered form, draining those around them = Warshade/Nictus. -
Quote:*sigh*I agree they don't have to, I'm not even saying they should explain the reasoning. In fact, I wasn't commenting about the devs in the post you quoted at all. So I don't get how your reply to my post even makes sense.
I was commenting on the fact that posters reject these ideas simply because a dev has said no in the past, not because anybody is actually against the idea itself.
Before the email changes and and power customization were implemented, many posters rejected those ideas simply because of past dev comments. Both of those features eventually made it in the game.
No, the reason power customization (specifically, as I don't recall any dev statements re: emailing items) was continually replied to with a "Don't hold your breath" was because the devs had stated it was too much work for their (at the time) 15 person staff. They never said "No" flat out to it. They rarely say just a flat out "no."
Power customization, for instance, was replied to with "Sure, we could do it. You'd get nothing else for that year because of the work it would entail, though."
This, however, we have a direct statement from Positron which says "You're lucky we let you keep ten you don't reslot." Just like we have a direct "No" to respeccing to different ATs/powersets on the same character. The position given is different. Trying to paint them the same way is either lacking information (if done without knowing which is which) or simply disingenuous. I, and several others here, do try to let people know which is which if responding to an idea which we have a dev response on record for. -
Wait, I've been around longer? (OK, by months, but somehow I find that surprising.)
Congrats, in any case

Quote:I'll be clear. I don't care one way or the other. Then again, I've got enough freespecs, vetspecs, etc. that I could probably strip a character of anything valuable fairly easily if I wanted to.That doesn't mean it can't change. But more importantly, other than just agreeing with an old dev statement just to agree with it, I haven't heard one argument on why something like this is a bad idea or how it would be bad for the game.
Yes, the old statement "doesn't mean it can't change," but it's the only position we've seen from them on it and it plants it pretty firmly in the same category as total respecs (which we've gotten a definite "no, it will not happen" on.) -
*shrug*
Remembering the stars system we had on the old boards (that got turned off some time ago,) I was rather surprised to see this "rep" system show up. Turned it off the first day because I knew it'd be just like it is now - a waste, basically. Last time I even cared about the rep was testing - think it was Leandro's script to check it (I'll test stuff, regardless, I find it interesting.) Looked, went "huh, ok" and haven't paid attention since.
My real rep is based on what I say (or don't,) not a bunch of bars and anonymous comments. Arcanaville, FatherXmas and the like would always have "positive rep," AFAIC, no matter what the silly little dots decide to do from one hour to the next. That's all that counts to me. (And enough "neg rep," well, that's what the ignore list is for.) -
Quote:/this, though I used to see Siren's as a good training ground (no epics, but characters coming into their own.) BB is just too early. Warburg can be interesting, as well. Used to say much the same thing to people who'd come here and complain about how overpowered and unbeatable Stalkers were... then they tried to AS someone the first time. >.<If you're going to roll one toon to do better vs. stalkers, roll a stalker. Spend some time in RV chasing around the best PvPers you can find, and enjoy your front-row seat in stalker avoidance class. All of your other toons will benefit from this eye-opening experience.
-
If I'm remembering my numbers right (and I13 didn't change it,) a max-perception character versus a max-stealth Stalker will finally see the stalker at 10 feet (melee range.) VEATs I think have a little bit more range.

I highly doubt I'd be allowed to keep mine. Or that it'd help all that much. >.>
Hmmm.
I'd probably snag one of the Khelds, given how much I like the AT. Moonfire or Shadowstar. It'd be a tossup. -
*points up a bit*
Head into the tech issues and bugs section. They'll have a link to COH Helper, which will give some system information. Post there and let them see what's going on. -
When you start it (second screen on the updater,) check to put it in "safe mode." Once in safe mode, set your resolution (it should say "desktop" next to it) and restart the game normally. See if that helps.

When I finally decide to stop paying my sub.
... ok, a little general there, but for most, that's right. For some - given I'm working on "get one of everything to 50," hitting 50 meant they were instantly shelved (namely the Bane and Widow) and "done." Others get played much more.
And then the game changes, and something makes me want to rework something, so they get more time in again.
