  1. Victorian Steampunk... 2, I think (the more "corset"-ish one) I couldn't get to *not* clip through the front of the Trench coat.
  2. And as a side note -

    Steampunk belt - clock = very sash-like.

And you can put any AT or powerset in the place of "Kheldian" and it'll still be as true. So, the point is.... what, exactly? Really, *most* inherents are "selfish" -

Stalkers - get the crits while hidden - and a higher chance while teamed (and close to teammates.)
Brutes - Build fury regardless of the team. The team doesn't benefit. (You can say "Well, they do more damage." Guess what the Kheld buff does....)
Masterminds - again, no benefit to the team.
Dominators - Builds their *own* status protection and control strength.
    Corruptors - Their own damage.
VEAT - their own regen/recov. (The leadership buffs are not their inherent, they're selected powers.)
Tank - This one you can actually say IS a benefit, with Gauntlet's little AOE taunt.
    Blaster - see brute.
    Controller - see brute.
Defender - They *lose* damage as teammates join, and the team has to be hurting for their discount to kick in.
    Scrapper - see brute.

So, of all the inherents, only the Tank has a direct benefit to the team via their inherent, and that through aggro control. All the others can very much be called "selfish" to one degree or another.

Pretty sure the leveling pact only affects XP, not inf... only thing I ever see it talk about splitting is the XP, in any case.
  5. By the way, the City of Heroes steampunk pack is now available.

Just in case you missed it.
  6. Got it.

Now, with that steampunk "belt" looking as it does... sashes, including Kheldian, please? >.>
  7. Well, this doesn't really *fit* the character it's on (but is better than what she had.) M inor clipping in the trenchcoat - but this'd fit a magician/assistant type, I think:

And this doesn't use much steampunk - only the belt, really - but it makes me hope we get regular (and kheld! Since this is a 'shade) sashes soonish.

No, strike that. I love it.

But let's talk about what, specifically it buffs. As I said, I think a damage or resistance debuff would be out, but a recovery buff aura wouldn't be too shabby. Also wouldn't mind a regeneration buff.

Even better would be a combination of the two.

I didn't catch it in your original suggestion: did you propose anything one way or the other with the power's recharge?
    Didn't mention anything about recharge.

Buffs.... Given it's a PBAOE buff, I think the damage buff would work - but you do have a point. What if, for the Kheldian, it pulled a Vigilance? Solo, you get X damage buff, dropping as you get more teammates? THEY still get the full buff, of course.

Though that's getting ... mechanically "not so elegant."

The only thing I need to earn is smiles.
    /seconded.

If the game's not fun, if my friends aren't playing, I won't care that there's "stuff to earn." I don't play towards purples now, for instance - I don't care.

Heck, I ran on a - think it was Lady Grey - with a friend of mine. Probably my best purple run (three in one mission, actually. I was shocked.) Did I go get uber cash or purple out a character? Nope. Handed them over to her since that sort of goal she *does* work towards, and she'd get more enjoyment out of them than me.

Did the same thing back when wings were 15 million, and that was a lot of INF. *shrug*

(And yeah, I realize that means I won't see another purple for months. Don't care.)

    I don't need "carrot-based gameplay."

Except most of them don't really "fit" with anything else. (There are some other pieces with that same problem, really. But you don't have to grind out 25 Empyrian Merits to use them.)

I think I've only done that once for an artist, and that wasn't actually "Who would play" but more "This hairstyle - and actually the face is pretty close to what I'd want for her."

But most times I just give the in-game shots. Seems none of the in-game hair really fit that for me, either too short, too long, or too ... *something* otherwise.

It's the self-declared holy document argument. "This book is true, it's the word of <deity/s/prophet/s> and infallible!" "Where's the proof?" "In the book. It says so."

Plus, speaking of strawmen, it's not like you have to put in 134 days to see any progress. That's 134 days to completely earn everything, starting immediately after it's added to the game.

For perspective, how long did it take someone immediately after Issue 11 launched to completely "purple out" their character? Keep in mind, a lot of those recipes and/or enhancements didn't show up on the market for a while. And once you were done, how long did it take you to "purple out" your second character?

I'm thinking 134 days, even of constant farming, would have been generous at the time. And, of course, then if you wanted more purples on other characters, that would have been even more time sunk into the system, where as here, it's immediately unlocked.

Plus, I'm not a mechanics guru, but does that 134 days calculation take into account the fact that you can earn both Empyrian and Astral merits during trials, plus any conversions of Shards/Thread/whatevers you earn along the way too? Or is it based on one trial = one and only reward?
Yes, but look what you're comparing:

Purple recipes = actual power increase. "Superior" IOs, on their own, PLUS pretty hefty bonuses (10% recharge, for instance.) With that sort of power increase, "Long term goal/rare" makes sense.

    Versus:

Costume pieces. Which, if we were (say) Aion, where armor pieces make a difference to cast time, movement speed, etc, would make perfect sense (and they do have it there - you need so many silver/gold medals from assisting in Fortress raids to get the top end pieces, and it takes a fair bit of work.) However, here... they're nothing but shinies. And really don't justify the cost assigned to them.

I'm thinking that since the last two issues have been Incarnate-heavy, the next one will be Incarnate-light, and hopefully that will help assuage the concern that City of Heroes is becoming a purely Incarnate-focused game.
If they start a pattern of "Issue # = normal content, Issue #.5 = Incarnate improvements," I wouldn't actually argue.... with the occasional combined issue for big events.

See, that's not quite what people are "missing or ignoring."

"Long term rewards" being used as a reason for purpling out a character, for instance, or (more relevantly) getting the T4s, I have no problem with. You're going for the top-tier of power, it shouldn't be easy. And they're going to have a noticable impact in-game as you hit harder/faster/with higher defense/etc.

But for *costume pieces and auras?* Seriously?

I've already left feedback on this in the appropriate place, but the current prices are silly, especially with (at least) 5 more Incarnate tree "slots" to come. The auras don't scream out "incarnate." Nor do the emotes ("I'm an Incarnate, look at me be out of breath or fall over!")

I'm *hoping* the costume pieces have a MASSIVE drop in price - I wouldn't want to burn Empyrian merits on anything but a *full* set, and nowhere near 25 of them for that. The pieces are *not* worth that huge cost on beta right now. Nowhere near.

Lots of people need incarnate threads or components, but does that mean we nerf the various trials, task forces and strike forces just to make the only difficulty standing around being bored?
Comparing apples and screwdrivers here. If you pick the wrong alpha, it doesn't really affect your character. Having a horrendous build that needs (yes, needs) a respec is different.

Nobody "needs" incarnate powers - they're almost not used, save for incarnate trials, and new ones can be crafted and swapped out at almost any time. And as for trapdoor - you have paid attention to the "Get IXP to unlock" that's there currently, or the "Buy a token to unlock Alpha" that's in beta now, right?

The question isn't "Increased challenge." If your build can handle it, your build isn't what the current respec trial timer was aimed at. And yes, I *have* seen teams that struggled with this. Y'know, the people that - wait for it - *need a respec* (but don't have a vetspec/freespec handy, or the INF to buy a respec recipe.)

That said, if there were a "voting" mechanism in place, or something the team leader can pick to skip the timer and - assuming the current spawn is defeated - spawn the next wave *now* instead of 2-3 minutes from now, I wouldn't argue.

    Well, that was from Posi...

And yeah. Looking at some of the costs... erg. I didn't bother with a lot (most!) of the Vanguard pieces, and those were generally easier to get.

Now, if they're going to tell us we'll get Astral/Emp Merits for other stuff very quickly (as in "from this point," not "10 per hour for just logging in," to be clear,) it might sting a bit less. But yeah - looking at those costs... I get them for the IOs, but not for the costume bits.
  18. I don't know, I think that'd work - you're getting into some details that ca't be shown in game, decent face shots, details of costume - might want any specific power appearance items, any personality quirks that would appear ("Hates sunlight" for instance would help avoid a suggested pose of them getting a tan.)

Browse through DeviantArt, search for "Character reference," you'll see a pretty wide range, including things like this.

I tend to go somewhat toward this, for instance - giving more of a personality than specific details, unless needed. (Here's the full set - several pages, some duplicated as things have been updated - you can see a range from fairly basic to adding detail.)

Ask yourself what someone would need to "get the character right," and make sure it's there.
  19. Honestly, the only think that bugs me with bonuses is the "Debt reduction" one - stick something else in the same slot. Yeah, I highly doubt anyone's building toward debt reduction, but still... add an actually useful bonus there, please.
  20. If it's the behaviour I think he's talking about, it'll go all the way through looking like you're actually bidding, THEN reject it - I'm not sure about that 'duplicate bid' bit, though.

You don't have to run Mender Ramiel's stuff. You CAN just start running trials at 50 - your Incarnate XP will go to unlocking Alpha first, though. Running Ramiel's reasonably fast and easy, though (yeah, even with Trapdoor and Honoree there.)

From stuff that's been asked for, off the top of my head, aside from the aforementioned staff melee

    Dark control
Dark assault (which I'd think would be "low hanging fruit," but possibly put off until it had a Dark Control to pair with it.)
    Gadget-based control
Martial-arts-ish Blaster secondary ("in the works," I believe, but could be remembering wrong.)
"Mecha powerset" (from the long-ago thread - still think it's a good, if rather work intensive idea.)

I'm *suspecting* the occasionally requested Longbow/Arachnos/PPD mastermind bits are getting coopted into the Lore pets. (And I do want my Nictus MM.)

Of course, we could just go through Lady Jade's powerset suggestion thread.

    It is M.

As for accuracy... well, it can be goofed up pretty badly on occasion, but usually it's pretty close. When it's off, though...

I had a Shield/Stone tank as part of a dual-pact (4 players.) We all played, barring the occasional costume/"we just need a bub or three to catch up" login, at the same time.

Their hours ended up showing something like 77/74/78. Mine? 300+. Why, I have no idea.

    Nope.

I have an old trial account, from back when they did the double-prestige grant. I use it now to check for name availability. The check character is level 1, and inactive, so he'd lose his name if the script were ever run.
