"Looking for healer!" is not the same as "Valued AT." And while yes, Defenders can do great things, and some people do wake up to that (see RO) it seems most people just want a "healer."
Quote:Whereas PB's are deemed mediocre if played well, never really desirable, and the knockback is just the last nail in their coffin. :/
Frankly, I'd say 90% of the playerbase *doesn't care* that you're a PB - or anything else. You're another person to team with with a somewhat different AT (and I've seen enough new folks around to say "that they probably haven't seen before.") -
Quote:Learn to use it effectively then.Really?? I think KB is the single most obnoxious and unproductive secondary effect in the game.
It's in the same category as the Storm powerset - using it badly makes people hate it, and remember it was "so bad, knocking stuff around everywhere," etc, etc. Using it well makes people think you're godly.
And yes, I *have* had comments to that effect (on both my PBs, energy blasters and Stormies) - the gist of which were "And I was worried when a PB (or stormy) joined that everything would get scattered, but you don't do that."
Quote:Yeah PB's are definitely not suited for an exact copy of eclipse, but warshades are able to be played much more aggressively since they aren't squishy or second rate -
... eh, don't think I'd agree with that.
Is there anything you can't complete without a travel power? Is your AT/powerset crippled in any real way by not having one? ("Getting to the mission somewhat slower" isn't really "crippled.") Travel powers are a convenience.
For comparison, I'd say (and I don't think I'd get much disagreement) that, say, a tanker skipping their status protection power *is* "doing it wrong" and crippling themselves. Without that status protection, their ability to play as a tanker - or even just "as melee" - is severely compromised.
Somewhat less absolute (but that you'd still get people agreeing on) would be, say, a Stalker not taking their Assassin Strike. While they can still scrap and get crits from hide on most powers, that's most powersets "big hit," and by being given so early (6) in the AT's sets, it's really designed with it in mind.
Travel powers just don't warrant that same "must have" level. (Admittedly most people don't skip them, but again - convenience, plus (often) other useful things in the pool.) -
Currently:
Recently changed from cycling through these (as slideshow.)
... which reminds me, I've had more pieces since then. Should add a few to that set of desktops. -
Claws blaster.
Really. Loads of fun. -
Been requested before.
Still would like to see it. -
1. Get mids It's "cheaper" to play around with builds there than in game.
2. Don't get stuck in the "IOs, Ios, set set set" mindset - you're trying to get a basic grasp of "Why is this character broken?" it sounds like. Ignore IOs (outside of commons) for the moment.
3. Don't sweat about soft caps, hard caps, damage caps, baseball caps and the like. Save those for when you're more comfortable with what you're doing.
Inventions did change a lot in the game - unfortunately, I think we've become overly reliant on them, throwing them into build answers without really explaining why (or how, or how much.) More veteran players had to cut their teeth on "SOs were the best available until you could run Hami raids." Wanted KB protection on your Fire tank? Make friends with a Kinetics character or grab Acrobatics and work in the END cost. Play a blaster? No, you're not getting softcapped defense unless you're teamed with a few bubblers.
Now, you're not saying what characters, what levels or what you think is making them "broken." It's rather hard to make a truly broken, useless character (outside of "h34l0rz" with nothing but the first attack they HAVE to take and brawl. Those are truly useless.)
For more detail, really, you have to go into specifics -
- What AT?
- What powersets?
- What have you picked?
- What's your goal?
- Why do you think this character is "broken?" -
Horrible idea. Hope it never happens.
Quote:. Eclipse for warshades is simply not fair
Light Form, meanwhile, can be fired off at any time and has the same strength and same effects, each and every time.
Funny how poeple keep *neglecting to mention* that in their complaints about how "Light Form sucks compared to Eclipse." -
I'm (unsurprisingly) mostly happy with PBs. I don't (and generally won't) agree with things like mez protection/etc in human and the like. And I *like* my knockback, thanks. That said:
- Photon Seekers. Started a thread w/my views and discussion/suggestion here.
- Shifting. Wouldn't argue with the shift time being shorter.
- Would not argue with Build Up/Conserve Power/buffs (not shields, necessarily) being usable in form.
- I get people not liking shields being shut off durign shifting - for PB *or* WS. If there's a way to suppress but keep them "on" (or... make them "auto" with a single power that boosts the stats of all three in human form, or some such,) I could see it as a QOL fix.
And we have a near-sash in Steampunk... so how about going all the way there.
Edit:
Also,
Quote:Have you looked at the test/beta server's notes? The -tohit penalty is being removed from it and Group Fly.. Id settle for it gaining some form of useful buff on its own though. -
Quote:I actually worked up a "Nictus Mastermind" a while back that was received pretty well. Nictus are going to have - let's just say "fewer qualms" about taking over others and feeding from their min... er, allies. Borrow a few more control powers, throw in a bonus (for instance) for healing/buffing yourself from the controlled or confused enemies, that sort of thing. The problem with Nictus is how do you differentiate them from Warshades?
FAR different and far more possibilities than "just take a warshade rogue." And I'd love to see it, just to see the "other side" of the Kheldian war arcs. (Which is, after all, the "epic" in EAT.) -
Quote:/thisI recommend, instead, not caring about post counts, and only post intelligent (or at least not ranting and not trolling) comments, help answer questions, etc. That's how I got my 17k+. I think I may have posted like 2-3 times, total, in Forum Games.
There are two times I see people refer to post counts:
1. Asking what the titles mean, and
2. having no argument and trying to pull the "forumite bullying me because I only have X posts!" card (which tends to be the first time they're ever referred to in the thread.)
You've done the first, which is fine - have a question, ask it! Don't do the second, it's tacky and post count really does mean nothing. -
How do I make the most out of my $15...
I play. *shrug* Really, that's what it boils down to - $15 gets me very cheap entertainment all month long. Haven't gotten tired of it yet - COH seems the easiest to keep going, really create my *own* character with, RP in (because I can create my *own* character instead of Orc 298734 with armor combo 10 and not so uber sword 6.) -
Quote:sooooooooo... just take them, find some throwaways at the points where there are no Primary/Secondary powers available, don't put them on your tray and enjoy having more slots?Never realized wanting just Primary, Secondary, and Epics was "doing it wrong", but I guess I am going against popular opinion here.
Don't get the angst here. Would you prefer to not have room for a travel power if you wanted all of your primary and secondary?
You have yet to explain how exactly this is "unfair," too. Unfair to who or what? -

You'll note I was mostly kidding around. And specified it was aimed at the "minimum of one" portion of it. I realize GG's overuse of smilies while insulting people has made people somewhat immune to the "hey, just kidding around" intent of them, but still. Relax.
-
Quote:You *do* realize arguing from the point of IO'd out/everything-capped-three-ways-from-friday builds is *not* the way to convince me of things, right? You only need to take down the pylons. You don't need to raid. It takes a minimum of one person to take down the pylons.
(as far as "minimum of one.")
Regardless - I still think it'd be a nice QOL change that wouldn't hurt anyone to either move the badge or remove it from the requirements for the beacon. Yeah, I doubt it'll *happen,* but I haven't heard anything convincing me that it'd be a *bad* change or break anything.
Then again, I'm not the one to convince either way. I'm just stubborn and like to argue about things. -
Quote:And for mine, it was one of the most fun... *shrug* but I'm not a numbers guy, either, and came from an Elec/Elec blaster. The OP's describing himeslf as a min/maxer, too.I was one of the first non-powerleveled peacebringers on Pinnacle. It was the least fun character I took to 50.
I'd almost be curious to see a breakdown of like/dislike versus - well, whatever came before (squishy vs melee, say) and/or interest in min/maxing. -
And there were complaints about it being too fast before...
-
Quote:Which, I shouldn't need to point out, is not the same server or time as Pinnacle at 5 AM. (Edit: Just so snow_globe knows, I'm not being snarky so much as poking at him for fun here. Re-read it and it could be taken wrong.)Believe what you will, but those search results are not showing everyone on. I frequently play after midnight pacific on Triumph, an East Coast server. I know what I'm talking about as far as the search window is concerned.
Quote:I don't see the need to push it as it is fairly easy to get/unlock. -
Quote:If it occurs with regularity, it is not an "unpredictable" occurrence. Which he seemed to not be able to get through his head, no matter how many bricks and sledgehammers I tried to use to assist with the operation.okay, to try to calm things down and play a bit of Devil's Advocate here: What Vaden is trying to say is that if these sorts of things happen with regularity, than you should let the one who's not so regularly prone to failure take the temp power.
-
Quote:Fine. Leave it as an enticement. Just remove it from the requirements.Given the low requirements, I see no problem with leaving this badge as an enticement.
Quote:Three points: - That isn't showing all the matches, you need to click search again to show more.
- That isn't showing all the villains, rogues, or vigilantes in the red side zones.
- That is more than enough people to take out the pylons.
No?
Then don't tell me that's not showing all the matches. Or go on some fairy story that there's some vast redside population on at that time (there isn't.)
Seriously, what's with the push back on this? It's not uber-powerful, doesn't hurt you in the *least* to remove one badge from the requirements for the beacon. (And, for the record, I already have it in most of the SGs I'm in. The ones that don't are generally slower/inactive groups who don't have any real interest in the beacon - so I'm not arguing for this for myself.) -
are you planning to PVP? Curious because of the TP protection (if I'm reading that right.) As opposed to, say, a KB resist IO.
Also... if I can be blunt (which I can be, as anyone who's been on the forum any amount of time has probably discovered) - if you're going to go into it with a "These have sucked before, probably suck now, too much knockback, should I bother?" attitude... you're going to hate playing it. Doesn't matter if it's the most perfect build around, or what have you. Going in like that will mean you hate it and stop playing.

Quote:I'd actually JUST finished (failed) that arc - it wasn't Aarons that time, but the Rikti mentalist who decided to try to solo some Fake Nemesis while I was busy. Didn't turn out very well....Thanks for thje input Bill and if I what I think you mean is right by "helpers" I more than agree. My example would be General Aarons from Serpent Drummer's Arc in the RWZ..
Quote:Can we alter your suggestion to say give them enough health to survive and enough common sense not to seek out certain death? ( as in shorten their aggro range LOL).
Maybe we could get more Mastermind pet flexibility, and get rid of some of the "Run for the hills!" tendancy of things that get hit with a debuff (like, oh, Scrapyard.) Maybe we could even fit in the oft-requested "Ranged/Melee preferred" option on MMs. And maybe I wouldn't do the same thing you do - skip Lady Jane, clear the map then go back to avoid her suicidal tendancies (not the band.)
