Thanks Alkirin.
I did take dark servant, part of the reason for hasten. I also like the quick recharge on Twilight grasp, I can spam a 450 pt heal every few seconds on all my minions. I typically run in and fight right beside my zombies, keeping them alive through the heals and using shadow fall to buff their survivability. With the availability of jet packs, super speed isnt so bad since I can purchase a "fly" power for 10,000 INF. I like combat jumping and super jump, but couldnt fit them into the build since I took Hasten instead. However, when the fitness pool become inherent, I should be able to fit hasten in a build with CJ and SJ for travel. I like CJ as a slot mule anyway, often putting Karma KB, Kismet +6%, and LotG recharge in there.
Thank you for taking the time to respond, it gives me a bit more to think about. -
Can anyone tell me what this IO does? You slot it into a pet power, does it give those particular pets a chance for buildup with every attack? For example, if I slot it in my Grave Knight power, how does it work? Does it have a chance to proc every attack, every so many seconds, etc. Is it worth it? Thanks!

Hi all,
It's been quite a while since I've played my MM, and am wondering how this build will do with the changes to the game over the last couple of years since I've really played my MM. One question in particular - what does the Purple unique "chance of buildup" do?
Here is my current build. Its centered around ranged defense for me and +recharge. Please let me know your thoughts and if I'm wasting slots/powers. Thank you!

Stolen from an earlier post of mine when someone asked about the viability of a fire/SS tanker, but it covers the concepts well enough I think. I find my tank to be an absolute monster while soloing as built, the FE/burn/footstomp combo will make quick work of large groups of mobs. Unlike most (not all) tanks, a fire/SS tank should solo every bit as well as a scrapper or brute.
I will tell you Fire/SS is a tanker of a different color. Whether or not you will enjoy your tank depends on why you made him in the first place. More so than any other tank, this combo can DEAL OUT THE DAMAGE, but is more frail than other tanks in the game. Once you get rage (lvl 28 I believe) your attacks will hit much more often and do an additional 80% damage. With hasten and some solid IOs, it is easy to have rage double stacked fairly often resultsing in +30% to hit and +160% damage. Team that up with the new change to burn (mobs dont run in fear) and footstomp, you get an AOE nightmare that even scrappers get jealous of. Unlike most tanks, you can fill a damage slot effectively on a team as well as a tanking slot. My Fire/SS regularly farms +3/8 missions (although he is fully IOd). If you like to solo with your tank, the damage boosts from Rage and your AOEs will make quick work of your missions and leave you grinning. However, if you made your tank with the intent of standing in a group of 15 mobs and laughing at them while they whack at you feebly, your better off making an Stoner or Invuln as Healing flames is not enough to deal with the incoming damage even when IOd. If I know I'm going into a really hairy mob, a single Luck will soft-cap melee defense and its easy to come by. Now leap into that same set of 15 mobs, quickly hit Fiery Embrace, burn, and Footstomp then simply clean up whatever bosses are left (the LTs and Minions are all twiching and smoking on the floor). The beauty is these powers recharge fairly quickly, and you can do this combo every 10 seconds or so IOd. Damage bliss. Here is my build - it a hybrid built for melee defense and +recharge, and I am very happy with it. (the hold is for those damn Malta sappers, but can easily be replaced by Temp Protection or Rise of the Phoenix...)

Ion,
First, Mids will give you the data from Combat Jumping, hasten, etc, just make sure you check the little green circle next to the power itself in your build for it to be included in your total specs.
Second, some suggestions:
1) Focused Accuracy - its an endurance hog with little value to you, as Rage already gives you a huge +to hit buff, 28% or so when single and 56% when double stacked. There may be some isolated instances where you could use the +perception, but in general you wont need it. You are taking that and Energy Torrent in order to get physical perfection. Its been my experience that when fully IOd, my fire/SS rarely ever has endurance problems and Consume is there to offset any END issues caused by the Rage crash that may occur. These are powers you may not necessarily need that you could be using for Hurl, Fiery Embrace, or other powers that will be more useful more often. Just my 2 cents, take it for what its worth.
2) Regeneration is nice, but with a fire tank healing flames makes it not quite as important as a decent recharge rate will keep healing flames up every 12 seconds or so. Without any +HP powers, I would focus on the +HP stats rather than regen, as you heal more with healing flames as your HP increases.
3) Find a way to at least 2-slot (if not 3-slot) hasten. Vital for healing flames recovery and your survivability.
4) My own personal build is below. I built him for high Melee defense and +recharge and have no problems farming +3/8 Battlemaiden map with him. There are zero purple IOs (I prefer the +def bonuses offered by the orange sets instead with my tank, particularly Obliterations) so the build will be considerably cheaper than yours if you havent spent the influence yet. I took Char at level 49 just to deal with the blasted Malta Sappers, but you can substitute RotP or Temp Protection in there easily, or maybe Stealth for another +Recharge slot mule.

My pleasure. If I can be of any further assistance, look me up on Freedom. My Global is Medyc, I am on Freedom server and usually play in the evenings Pacific time.

Here's my go at a fire/fire farmer. There is a fair amount of melee defense in there, rise of the phoenix for the unfortunate death without rezoning, and focuses on Fireball, Combustion, Burn, and Fire Sword Circle for damage. I am quite happy with my Fire/Fire farmer, particuarly on demon maps (evil grin). All IOs are either orange or yellow (although they are not cheap) with zero purples.

Frostburnt,
I will tell you Fire/SS is a tanker of a different color.

Kioshi,
Thank you for taking the time to assist, I appreciate it! All feedback is welcome.
Personally, I dont slot for AOE defense for two reasons - one is that the -KB IO is hella expensive for BotZ. The second reason is AOE damage in the PVE world isnt all that common. Yes, I know there are some out there (Vahz pukers come to mind) but I have never slotted any of my toons for AOE and haven't regretted it yet. Just my personal preference. -
So, utilizing the suggestions I've been given, here is an update lvl 50 build. I'm not sure I can't afford the purples in Blinding Powder yet, so I'll slot Siphon Insights until I get the cash. Any other thoughts?

Awesome, thank you very much Siolfir. I've adjusted my build a couple of times since my initial post a few weeks ago, and I'd already made a couple of the changes you suggest such as energy punch vs. Barrage. My PVP build has the stealth IO, my PVE build does not, I just forgot to take it out when making my builds in Mids. When I hit 41 I discovered Mids was wrong about Hibernate, and I took Water Spout instead and Hibernate at 44. Until such time as I get soft capped, I do find the power useful to save my skin when running missions. I'm sure once I'm fully IOd I will need it less, maybe a respec later down the road to get rid of it. I'd also come to the same conclusion regarding the knockback IO in Sha - I 5-slotted it with Doctored Wounds and used a slot in HIDE for Karma, -KB instead. It works much better, good catch. My stalker hit 50 over the double XP weekend, and I've been able to do some playing after trying a few powers I only had on paper prior to actually reaching a high enough level to use them. Using yours and Jamus's suggestions, I'm sure I'll be happier with my toon. Thank you!

Thank you very much! Being my first (and only) stalker, I appreciate some feedback from experienced players. I tried my hand last night at PVP using a specific PVP build utilizing Stealth, and +stealth Celerity in Sprint. Due to teh power shortage in trying to build a set for lvl 30 (siren's call), I was not able to stuff Fitness into my build and still get all the necessary powers. Between running toggles for my defenses (2) stealth, and Sprint as soon as I hit a travel power I'm losing endurance. I figured I just have to have enough endurance to hit something 3-4 times and either it will be dead or I will, so I can do withouth Fitness. Any opinions in working Fitness into a Siren's Call build?
On a side note, I took Recall Friend in my PvE build to actually try to add some team utilitiy to my stealth ability. Perhaps to ghost a mission and teleport the team in to the final boss fight. I recognize it does zero for my personal build (I would honestly rather have Combat Jumping for my toon's personal benefit) but it seems teams are loath to add stalkers in the first place so it might make me a bit more attractive to a team looking for help. I also slotted Kuji-in Sha to hit 95% healing and 95% recharge, not necessarily fo the set bonuses but you're right about Numina's adding some useful bonuses so that would be a better choice.
Out of curiosity, you state you are not a big fan of some of the powers I picked - would you mind elaborating on why? I'm a rookie to this whole archetype and what looks good on paper may not be very effective in the game.
Below is my first crack at a Siren's Call PVP build if you wouldnt mind providing some feedback and what I could do better on the PVP side as well. Thank you very much for the help!

One thing I think is worth mentioning that I'm going to disent from Umbral on - AOE defense. Upon examining the build, I noticed 3-slotted Blessing of the Zephyrs (BotZ). In my humble opinion, AOE damage is pretty rare in the game - Vahz pukers are one of the things that come to mind that use cone attacks, maybe Energy Paragon Protectors as well. At almost 100 million per enhancement, the +knockback BotZ provides no benefit to your toon since you have intergration besides the +AOE defense the 3-set bonus provides. So for 250-300 million Infl, you'll get about 10% defense to something you will rarely ever need. Again, just my personal opinion, AOE attacks are rare enough in PvE that I don't think they are worth slotting for. Those are 3 enhancements slots you can move somewhere else for a more useful bonus and 300 million INFL that could be better spent somewhere else.

Hello folks!
I've recently pulled my level 24 stalker out of retirement - I'm not sure why, but all the sudden I've gotten the urge to be sneaky and lethal. I'm a 5-year player, but haven't really done much on the villian side and this is my first stalker. I've tinkered with Mids and come up with the following build. Its for PvE, can I please get some critiques? There are no purples in the build, funds are severely limited since I don't play red side much. Thanks! If you've got time, I'd love to see a lvl 30 Siren's Call build for this toon as well if someone's deep into PVP.

Listen to what Umbral is telling you - he spent the time that I didnt to get into the nitty gritty details of your build and really give you the best possible build. I agree with him in almost every detail, he put the thought and effort into your build you are looking for. Follow his advice and you will be really impressed with your toon, I guarantee it.
To one final point, for melee oriented toons I personaly always maximize melee defense because it doenst matter what type of damage it is (S/L, Fire, Nrgy, whatever) you always get the highest defense figure you have versus that attack. Maxing S/L does great, but if you stop and really think about what damage type your scrapper really suffers from, I'm willing to bet 80%+ is melee range of some nature so maxing melee defense helps survivability, regardless of what you're fighting assuming you're in melee range, and maxing S/L can leave you exposed to other damage types. -
Vinque,
Between the leadership pool as well as the fighting pool are you having endurance issues? It seems like thats an awful lot of toggles to be running without Stamina to back up Quick Recovery. Also, I dont see the point of slotting a single purple into an attack power, particularly when that power is already hitting DR levels. Seems like a huge waste of influence.
Now, this is how I would slot your toon using your same powers (with the exception of resilience - axed the 7% damage resist for 3.75% ranged defense and stealth that come with Superspeed instead). Take it for what its worth, one man's opinion, done in 10 minutes nothing more. With this build, you're looking at +45% accuracy from set bonuses, not sure if you'll really need tactics or not - your team will benefit I suppose, but it might be overkill for your own toon for the endurance cost. Personally, I'd skip it but thats up to you.

I'll throw my 2 cents in there on how to build a regen. I agree that recharge is important, but in my build I prioritize recharge 2nd to defense. My first goal is to soft-cap melee defense, as a scrapper is usually hip-deep and surrounded by mobs in melee range using melee attacks. With a single hit of an (enhanced) parry strike (or divine avalanche), melee defense is buffed by 23%. This means we just need a total of 22% melee defense to hit the soft cap for the most common attack your scrapper is going to see. I know you can stack parry strikes, but we'll assume that occastionally a miss happens and we need to survive until another parry strike is ready. With all that said, capping your melee defense should reduce the incoming damage enough for regen to do its job and...well, regenerate. It's fairly cheap to hit that 22% melee defense and you'll see a huge improvement in how strong your toon feels. With the dull pain argument, I can see both sides. Saving dull pain for a "whoops!" situation gives you an extra heal, but using dull pain immediately when it's up will likely put you at the 2409 HP cap, increases your regeneration rate (since its a percentage of the total HP), and having it already up may have avoided that "whoops!" situation in the first place. My personal preference - save Dull Pain as an extra heal until such time that your recharge rate allows for Perma Dull pain, then keep it up at all times. I personally skip resilience in favor of a fighting pool power to get to tough or weave, both of which are vastly superior powers particularly since endurance should never be a problem with a regen. If you're just looking for somewhere to slot your steadfast protection, I can see taking that power until such time as you can get into Fitness then drop it into tough instead.

Stefanie,
I have had a BS/Regen scrapper since I2 - I've had to change him as the game has changed, but he still is a ton of fun to play, has capped melee defense with parry, and never runs out of END - he's an AV killer. This is how I built mine, for maximized survivability. With Regen and stamina, I can run tough and weave at all times and still never run out of endurance. Tough toon, and absolutely fantastic at single target destruction. He has a single hold (for those blasted Malta Sappers) and is slotted mostly with Orange sets. Personally, i think purples are highly overrated and prefer the +defense bonuses from the orange sets for 1/8th the price tag of a purple set.... you can swap a couple of slots or sets around for additional ranged or melee defense, but I've never had a problem surviving with this build as the vast majority of incoming attacks are melee and more melee defense sets are wasted once parry hits.
Oh yeah, and perma-dull pain = about 75 HP regen per second without Instant healing. Good times!

I'll throw my 2 cents out there on this topic as it relates to scrappers. Bear in mind I'm an "old school" (since issue 2) player who made a lot of toons early on back before the new power sets were even a thought and didnt have the heart to delete them so there are some less than traditional builds I've been tinkering with. I'll tell you what, I am simply amazed about the survivability of my BS/Regen Scrapper. I've lightly IO'd him with melee defense sets in his attack powers, to the point that his base melee defense is 23%. The real beauty of this powerset is "PARRY". When entering combat, I lead off with a parry attack and, assuming it hits, walla - 46% defense for the next 10 seconds. The power recharges in less than 2 seconds (in case I miss), does a fair bit of damage, and stacks the +defense effects. While I have almost no resistance, the regen powerset has absolutely no problem healing through whatever damage actually punches through the defense. With dull pain, I have 2409 hit points, regen 75 hit points per second, and have Reconstruction, Instant Healing, and Moment of Glory for the "whoops" situations. The real beauty is I was able to do this for about 300 million influence. Its by no means the best build out there, but it is cheap to make and the survivability is simply amazing.
