My second account was initially used for item or money transfers.
Then I used it to keep my arena-healfarms open without having to rely on another person to stay online for a particular period of time.
Now it's just for SG self-promotion stuff, but I'm not much of an alt-a-holic, so I don't even keep the second account active.
As for salvage, I pretty much sell everything but rares, and once I run out storage in my Vault/SG, I kinda weed through it and sell a handful of stuff in bulk. lol. I don't care if I can make better money off it by doing it differently. Inf isn't really one of my priorities. -
Quote:I am leaning toward believing that leaving at least one of them up will help survivability while taking down the Mitos. The main reason I believe this is as I think back on our speed runs when we take out the Yellows and Blues while the rest of the team is still taking down Pylons, nobody really dies.Nope, that's not a problem with the theory at all. My contention is that, while the pylons are up, you can be as close as the innermost mito and not get attacked. When the last pylon goes down, people are currently outside the goo, at the pylon.
As for this, "He does nothing until attacked.", that is not my experience. Maybe we had bad luck, maybe something got changed at some point, I dunno. But I've seen people get blasted while taking down the mitos - if the pylons are gone. I've only ONCE seen Hami attack someone while taking out the mitos with the pylons up, and it was because someone lagged and physically bumped right into him.
My observations are entirely consistent with a change in aggro range. Now, it's entirely possible that I'm misinterpreting what I saw. Lord knows we had 20 different theories about how supergroup promotions worked, all based on peoples personal observations.
Now that I'm aware of this, I'll probably try to do it that way and be paying closer attention to it for now on though, but either way.. I don't think either one of us would go crying and booting people from the team like the OP experienced. haha -
Quote:I can't help but point out that based on when GR was released, the absolute earliest that anybody could have completed them all would have been about 2½ weeks ago.I have all the day job badges on lots of alts...
...
My main collected all his Day Jobs ages ago...
I don't know about anybody else, but I wouldn't really call that "ages ago".
Unless of course you don't have GR, then all I can say is "Gratz!" on getting all the ones available to you. -

Quote:It's not made by the Devs, but the Titan Network has a program called Sentinel.I sometimes manage my salvage/recipes/builds/alphas/jobs/badges via a spreadsheet. It would be awesome if the Devs had an export feature for the game that would give you all kinds of useful information about your characters, to include things like badges and day jobs, but other things too like prestige, inf, sg, server, enhancement inventory, builds, etc.
It will keep track of your Character's information (Global name, server, badges, xp, inf, biography, level, origin, archetype, alignment, primary/secondary/epic powersets) on their website. It also has a DayJob calculator and an option to Export your build to Mid's Hero Designer as well. Somebody has mentioned inventory management (enhancements, salvage, recipes) being a possibility for future release as well.. maybe. -
That's a known issue. It's been like that since that feature was first created. I bugged it back in i12(?), but haven't seen anything done about it yet. Maybe it's time to put in some more reports about it.
That's part of why I don't even use the player note system. -

Quote:I don't agree with this. I've been in at least 4 situations fairly recently where a GM responded in a reasonable about of time and was able to "unstick" the situation without a problem. It used to be if for example a mission in a strike force was bugged, they'd drop the mission for you. Now, if a mission is bugged during a strike force, your team has to quit and start over no matter how far along you are, as some GM's are not permitted to drop missions / do much of anything but unstuck your character.
- a praetorian mission had no objective, possibly an ambush missing.
Mission was completed by a GM
- another praetorian mission was missing an objective
Mission was completed by a different GM
- Positron Task Force: Part 1. The ambush from City Hall went back inside the building and there was no way to go in and defeat them because you need to kill them before you can enter.
A GM TP'd them to the Atlas statue so we could complete it.
- Whole team crashed while finishing a certain mission during a TF and we had to repeat the mission when we all logged back in because it reset itself. After crashing a second time, I sent in a /petition. We waited outside the mission.
About 10 minutes later, a GM showed up. After a few minutes of explaining the issue and a couple more minutes for the GM to "research" the problem, the TF was advanced to the next mission so we could continue.
I'm sorry your experiences have not been similar. -
Quote:It seems somebody brought that strategy back to life. There is a small debate about it going on in another forum right now. It appears that City of Data does actually show some statistics for Hami that seem to imply that there is an automatic self-taunt "If a Rikti TF Pylon", and if you type [Drain] into the game chat, it displays a Devouring Earth "Untouchable" power that also has a +5000% taunt aspect, so that may mean there is some truth to the whole thing after all (providing nobody provokes Hami). You know, when I first ran the LGTF, I followed Kinetic Kitten's guide & he said to only drop one pylon & leave the rest up...over the years, people have told me that it doesn't matter if the pylons are up or down.
I am not sure if I can tell you if I have seen a difference or not...just stating that this used to be the strategy I used. -
Quoting myself:Quote:I just tried this, and it seems to work just fine (with a couple strange error messages that seem to mean nothing). What happens if you put a few $$macro entries into your default keybind.txt file? Would it automatically add them to a new character?
It sounds like exactly what the OP wants.
Rather than put them in an extra file that you'd have to manually load, you could include them directly in your keybinds.txt file and the Macro buttons are loaded automatically upon creation.
The only problem is that if you ever have to /bindload again in the future for any reason, the macros will duplicate.
To fix that, I'd simply go back to my first suggestion that says to use the F7 key and kill 2 birds with one stone. Simply have F7's default to load your macros and fix itself upon first press. (F7 "unbind f7$$bindloadfile macros.txt")
That gets the job done at the press of 1 key. No having to remember commands or filenames every time you make a new character. Smoooth. I like it!
I can think of some silly ways to use this (macro commands aren't the only ones that can be automatically loaded from the file btw). I'd like it even more without the error messages every time you load a macro file though. haha -
Quote:That's quite interesting. I can't say I ever messed around with that.Prepending with $$ should work. I use this to generate a set of inspiration-combining macros for new characters. An example of the Tier 1 macro:
Quote:$$macro T1 "insp_combine Insight Catch_a_Breath$$insp_combine Enrage Catch_a_Breath$$insp_combine Luck Catch_a_Breath$$insp_combine Respite Catch_a_Breath$$insp_combine Sturdy Catch_a_Breath"
What happens if you put a few $$macro entries into your default keybind.txt file? Would it automatically add them to a new character? -
Quote:Nobody said that the exact locations of day jobs would necessarily still be the same if the mechanic was different. It would be a different system, yet still yield Patrol XP and other benefits while not in your missions.Really think about that for a minute. You'd want Day Jobs to award you for just standing in front of a Crey Building? or at the Tram? or next to the SG Portal? Doing nothing but standing there in a fairly small invisible box? I guess you could just stand there and chat, but I'd think that would be worse that going there to log off for the night. At least that way you can get some progress while you sleep, work or go to school.
As for the specific issue of standing near an SG portal or Train, maybe the cumulative time to earn those rewards would only be about 30 minutes or so. For a few second here and there every time you zone, it would still take a while to earn for the average user, but somebody who wants it "now" could still do so in a fairly balanced way.
It's all speculation since they weren't implemented that way. Like I said before, you can't compare how useful or not useful it would have been that way since it doesn't exist. If they wanted to balance it, it would take more finess than a standard 21 days for everything, but it could have still been done.
Again, my position was never about how hard or easy they are. -
Well, when you create a new character, your keybinds.txt file is already loaded. For the most part, window layout is too... (provided you've done a bindsave and wdwsave from a different toon at some point). The positions of global channels do kinda get lost and need to be reloaded, but anyway... here's my suggestion:
In your keybinds.txt file, edit the line for F7. Change it to:
F7 "wdwload$$chatload$$unbind F7"
After you create your new character, simply press F7.
That will ensure that your window layout is loaded.
It will fix your chat to put global channels back where "they are supposed to be".
It will also fix F7 back to it's standard "Ready!" in a Green bubble for future presses.
For your "editable bunch of stock commands", I assume you mean another file (besides your keybind.txt file) that you might want to edit on occasion to keep specific personalized content together. In this case, revise the F7 bind above to:
F7 "wdwload$$chatload$$unbind F7$$bindloadfile Custom.txt"
As for creating your macro buttons for you, that can certainly be done too. You'd just need to fit them into the command line as well, but if there are too many and it gets too long, it might require the use of a chain of binds, or multiple keys instead.
For example, let's take out the "unbind F7" and replace it with another file:
F7 "wdwload$$chatload$$bindloadfile Custom.txt$$bindloadfile Macros1.txt"
Macros1.txt
F7 "macro NAME "some string of commands"$$unbind F7"
F8 "macro NAME "some string of commands"$$unbind F8"
F9 "macro NAME "some string of commands"$$unbind F9"
---- OR ----
Macros1.txt
F7 "macro NAME "some string of commands"$$macro NAME "another sting of commands"$$macro NAME "long string of commands here that reaches the text limit"$$bindloadfile Macros2.txt"
Macros2.txt
F7 "macro NAME "some string of commands"$$macro NAME "another sting of commands"$$macro NAME "long string of commands here that reaches the text limit"$$bindloadfile Macros3.txt"
Macros3.txt
F7 "macro NAME "maybe this is your last macro"$$Tell $player, "Macros finished loading"$$unbind F7"
That would take repeated presses of the key, but it gets the job done, and even tells you when it's finished.
I know it's not as automatic as you might have hoped, but I hope that helps you get started. If there is anything more specific, or you can't get it to work, I'll be glad to help.
Just a note, I usually test my specific examples in-game when I give somebody forum advice, but I'm not in the game right now and headed to work, so I hope it's pretty much accurate for now. If not, we'll figure it out later. haha
Good Luck -
As far as I can tell, there is no way to make commands in a bind file automatically run simply by loading a bind file... unless certain circumstances are met. The bindloadfile would have to be already bound to a key that is also inside the file it's loading, and the syntax for the key inside the file would have to tell the client to run it when the key is released.
For example:
Filename.txt
KEY "+$$say I loaded Filename.txt"
/bind KEY "bindloadfile Filename.txt"
The first time you hold down KEY, the file would be loaded.
When you release KEY, the command will execute.
Any future press of KEY will execute the command twice.
The usefulness of this mechanic is kinda limited. After you run it the first time, it defeats it's own purpose and you would have been better off just binding the key directly to what you want it to do instead of to the file.
If you tell me what it is you are specifically trying to do, I might be able to come up with something for you. Without that, it's really hard to explain how to get this to cycle correctly in a useful situation. -
Quote:Ah. That makes more sense, but then it kinda goes back to the "cause it's free" argument. How many characters I can get it on at once, or how easy or hard they are was never the issue. Depending on how "my" system would have been implemented, the requirements would have to have been drastically changed anyway, so there is no point comparing how effective it would have been.I believe he meant that you can get them on multiple TOONS at once -- in your scenario, you'd only be able to work on an online toon, hence only one at a time.
As for the mechanic of Patrol XP, that would obviously have to work differently as well. In "my" system, you wouldn't earn Patrol XP for being logged off either. You'd probably earn it gradually simply by doing anything else that's not earning XP. Time spent in the Day Job areas (buying/selling things, editing your SG base, or even traveling to your next mission between zones) would add a little Patrol XP. Then every character would still benefit from it anyway, just in a different way.
Again, it's just a difference of opinion. I believe that a character should be online to earn the rewards. While I'm playing Character A, I don't think Characters B, C, D, E, F, G, or H should be getting a benefit. If I want Character B to earn something, I'd switch toons. I don't necessarily care if it might make the badges harder to get on multiple toons at once. That's not the point. -
Your Spiritual boost's effectiveness on Hasten is going to be different based on what you already have slotted in Hasten. You'd need to incorporate that into your equation to get a specific answer.
See above. -
Quote:I have a feeling the Rikti probably aggro Hami, Hami fires at the Rikti, and somebody gets caught in the AoE.Everytime I've been on a team that drags rikti into goo, someone seems to die.
There are a few ways to possibly prevent that from happening, but you are right that it isn't necessarily a tactic that will work for everybody.
Personally, our speed runs tend to have a couple people taking out the Yellow and Blue Mitos while the rest of the team takes out the Pylons at the same time. We mostly just ignore the Rikti (neither purposely killing them nor dragging them into Hami). Then we focus on the greens together, then Hami. Most of the time, we don't have any deaths at all.. but that may be because of several other factors besides just our specific method. Nothing is ever 100% guaranteed.
As mentioned, there are several ways to deal with the situation. Neither one is necessarily wrong. "Different strokes for different folks." Different players and different teams may need different tactics.
I'll go back to saying that a Leader can choose to run his team any way he likes, but then we have the right to /ignore them if they decide to act in a way we don't agree with. Then we wont have to worry about it next time. I hope the OP did so in his situation. -
Quote:This is the type of argument that makes sense. It actually explains the reasons why the system is the way it is, rather than dismiss our opinions just because the rewards are "free", like many other people do.The whole idea of Day Jobs is to have a small sort of offline character advancement. That was what they are designed to be. Patrol XP and some badges for logging off in certain places. We clearly differ on our feelings towards getting something while logged off... it seems there is no changing each others' minds that some people find it to be an abhorrent rebuke of what badging is supposed to be while some people find it to be a nifty bonus that enriches their game experience. I don't think there's going to be any agreement.
With that, I'll agree it's simply a difference in opinion that doesn't make either one of us right or wrong, but I want to point out that my position is not necessarily about "what badging is supposed to be". It's about offline rewards in general. If the Dayjob powers were rewarded based on time spent in certain areas while playing the game, people would still be getting a "nifty bonus that enriches their game experience".
Either way, like you said, it's just a difference in opinion with regards to getting something while logged off. There is nothing wrong with that.
Quote:As for getting day jobs while logged in... it's funny, I would absolutely hate day jobs if they worked that way.
See: Irradiated, Siren's Song, Time Traveler, Web Master, Firebase Zulu Security Detail, Troll Task Force Member.
There just aren't powers associated with them.
Sure, it might take a little bit more programming to make them work in isolated areas rather than full zones, but I'm sure it could have been done if they wanted to. They had to create the isolated zones anyway for the system we have now.
If I'm earning a reward, I want to be playing too.
Buying/selling stuff at the market is still playing.
Buying/selling enhancements in a store is still playing.
Zoning using the Train or Ferry or Helicopter is still playing.
etc..
You still wouldn't have to alter your activities, and you'd still get them eventually. They'd just make more sense (to me). Why should I get an in-game reward for being at work? Somebody else already pays me for that! haha
Those who wanted them "NOW" could still take measures to do so. It's just a matter of balancing your in-game priorities at that point... the point being, they'd be IN-GAME priorities.
You can only get 1 day job at a time now already. If you mean that you couldn't get partial credit for more than one at a time, nobody said that we wouldn't be able to. -
-
Quote:The problem with that reasoning is that being offline is not an activity. The badge system rewards for different activities. This is one of them.
Quote:I do see where you are coming from, M-B, I just don't agree with it.
All I'm saying is that it could have been done in a better way from the start. The way it is right now doesn't seem to be in the spirit of the game. Earning credit for my badge because I decided to sign off and go see a movie instead... just seems a bit silly. lol
In the end, the Devs went this way with them and there isn't much chance in changing it, so there isn't really any point fussing over them. Let's just be happy once we get them completed. Let the debate of whether or not to add more continue! Which side am I on? "No. I'd rather something more in the spirit of actually playing the game, but if they do add more.. it's not the end of the world. I'd still get them eventually." -
Quote:As of when? They still worked for us the other day at least. I don't recall any maintenance period since then. Whether or not such a patch is on the Test server and about to go live.. I really don't know. Can anyone verify or debunk the rumor that nukes have been turned off for the Apex and Tin Mage tfs?
Edit:
Most recent Patch Notes (on Test 1/4/11)
I don't see anything related to the Incarnate TFs there. -
Quote:Speaking of the Hami encounter, I've been hearing a new strategy for it lately.Only problems I've ever had with this MoTF were Hammi-induced scrapper suicides
Apparently if you keep at least 1 Pylon up, it reduces Hami's aggro range and possibly even it's damage. The team can usually take out the Mitos right down to the greens without much problem from the Hami itself.
I haven't necessarily tested the theory myself, and some people report that there doesn't seem to be much of a difference, but I figure it can't hurt to give it a try, especially for a "Mo" run. -
Quote:It's not necessarily the duration of 21 days that makes it a stupid set of badges, it's that your character is required to be offline to earn them. Maybe if they were done much differently, it'd be a different story.I can understand frustration if you want a specific title, but I just do not see the 21-day duration to be that big of an issue.
For example, if I wanted to earn the Day Trader Badge, why can't I just spend "X hours" at the market while ONLINE instead? Granted, somebody who just wants the badge could still camp AFK there for "X hours" and earn it, but it's also something that could still be achieved by the average user simply by being at the market and PLAYING THE GAME over an extended period of time. That's more in the spirit of the game anyway.
Now, I understand that RP-wise the original intent of Day Jobs was to signify what your character is doing while you are "not on the job", but not for nothing... I'm not preventing any crimes while I'm standing at WW's buying stuff either. RP-wise, I think the alternate method would have still worked just fine, but without the nonsense of having to be offline. -
Sometimes you can get an e-mail to take a survey about your experience. You could simply talk about your experience with the GM there.
Or try sending a PM about it to Avatea. -
Quote:My Widow will be running the TF tomorrow night. I wont be able to see if the badge is actually earned by the Villain group, but I'll be able to confirm credit for the badge at the very least.Yeah it would definitely need to be a Rogue running it and not a vigilante. Unfortunately my highest level Villain/Rogue is mid-30s so I can't test it.
I'll report back at that time.
Edit:
Turns out the scheduled TF tonight fell through, so it's going to have to wait until another time. Hopefully somebody else tries it and reports back.
