What I got from his message was that he was tired of being "stuck" at the same job for 6 years, and left on his own to pursue bigger things. It's understandable. Whether or not that's the actual reason, none of us can say for certain. We weren't in the office when it happened.

Either way, I'm sure a lot of people would agree that he is a great guy and did a lot for us. To imply that you would be happy if he got terminated is just plain rude and disrespectful. Personally, I'm happy for him.

    In short... this explains it:

  4. I'm finally going to add my to the "like/hate 50" argument. (Not pointing this at any specific person)

Honestly, we've all done something drawn out, boring, or something we wouldn't normally do for a badge...
"Uggh! How many more of these do I have to kill?"
So PvP isn't your thing? Well it'll take you longer then the people who live for PvP.
How about the market? or crafting?
Not everybody likes doing that stuff. Not everyody is going to get those badges over a reasonable amount of time.
BUT, to get the badges, we do what it takes.
Some of us even spend time helping other people get the badges, even though we are not getting anything at all out of it.

How is this series of badges really any different? If TFs aren't your thing, it's naturally going to take you longer and/or be more annoying than it will be for people who like running repeated TFs. We can even change it up a little. If we are sick of STF, what's wrong with running LRSF instead? Then next week is something different.

Personally, I'd guage badges by the people who WILL naturally get them.
The fact that some people just aren't into TFs doesn't mean the bar is set too high, it's the fact that there are some people out there that love TFs and have no problem at all running TF after TF and happy to get these badges means the requirement is just fine. Lowering the requirement would just make it more trivial to them.

By definition, this badge series is supposed to be for helping other people get their weekly reward, even though you already got yours. It's not supposed to be about you or what you are getting out of it. It's about helping the community by doing something that you don't really have to do. If credit for these badges is designed to be earned over "months and years", then it implies the Weekly Strike Target is going to persist for at least that long... so why would anybody be selfish enough to want to get these badges right away and not want to help anybody for the next year (or more)?

Even if you just do 1 extra TF (an extra hour or two of your time at most) a week, you'll have the badges by this time next year. Look on the bright side, it'd still be faster than completing the Day Jobs.

It's a lot different than the old Empath issue where everybody said it was too high. Nobody would get that one naturally in a reasonable amount of time, hence the eventual reductions. In this case, it all boils down to play-style. If you don't like TFs and/or you don't like helping other people by re-running content later, then this badge is probably not for you. If you hate it so much that it causes rage, then go do something else that makes you happy. Nobody is forcing you to do anything you don't want to.

There are a couple different ways they could implement something like this. They could possibly make it an option at the beginning like you said, or even if there was some button to press or a dialog to click on to "vote to skip" that every member of the team would have to agree to. (For sync purposes, it wouldn't be possible for one person to skip them while another is viewing.)

I think either one would be a nice QoL feature, but I doubt they'd implement the first one. Reason being is there would be new people that might not ever experience the cutscenes at all or know they even exist if they don't lead the TFs themselves. I'd think the Devs would at least want to make sure everybody knows they are there and have an opportunity to see them at least once, and if it was a setting at the beginning, it wouldn't give some people that option.

That said, I'm not so sure either option would work too well with the current cutscene mechanic either. The cutscene takes place on the actual map, and may require certain characters to spawn or move to specific places, and I'm sure we'd run into a fair share of issues if a cutscene was skipped and the map was not re-programmed correctly.
  8. You can tell when you are in range of [Negative Stealth] when it shows up in your buff icons:

That has been in the game since Issue 9. I think what makes you notice it now is because we didn't have the extra mini-map icons before. I'm not sure the invisible entity is even supposed to show up on the map, and most times it wont... but there are some circumstances that make the mini-map very buggy and pretty much everything will show up on the map, including CoT crystals, jail cells and the teleport suppression around each of them.

That's probably all you saw... not a bug or change with stealth, but a bug with the mini-map. lol

    Edit:
I'm just here to say it has been there for a while. As for the Negative Stealth actually being effective.. that's another story. People have had mixed results with it. Some hostages seem to ignore stealth completely, while others have to rely on their perception to see through your stealth, so detoggling would still be necessary in those circumstances.

The ones that are simply floating in the water are stationary objects (part of the map) that you can indeed stand on, unlike the ones traveling the waters which actually spawn like NPCs.

I agree with the "no DoT", but it can certainly have 2 damage types. For example, the Rikti Captor we used before the AI change had 2 damage types (Lethal/Energy), and both values contributed toward progress (which is what made it twice as fast as the other methods for me at the time).
  13. Look on the right hand side of that window.. you'll see a scrollbar. You'll find the several different combinations in that list.

    Is boat a GM?

The boats actually do have collision, but it's only a single point in the middle of the object. If you stand directly in front of it and let it try to pass through you, it will move you slightly to the side.

I don't think the boats change speeds either.
It's not necessarily your imagination, but it could just be an optical illusion. Objects in the distance appear to be moving slower than they really are, especially in open water with no other reference points... and even more especially when the object is moving in the same direction as one of the animated water textures. It may even appear to be sitting still. If you put a stationary object (or yourself) next to the moving object, the actual speed becomes more evident.

    Stf pugs

I tried joining one in the early afternoon, but the leader was clueless and kinda spaced out. We waited about 5 minutes for them to get back from PI just to talk to contact. By then, the server hotfix announcement was displayed, so we just left. There was no way we were going to be done in time. lol

Then I was invited to another STF later in the day (with Myrdinn) and it went beautifully. A couple of people didn't seem to know much, but the rest of the team filled in the gaps and made up for it. It ran rather quickly and I don't even think anybody died. We probably could have run it as "Mo". Good times.

The release was not rolled back.. they actually did find a solution and patched it.

To most of us maybe, but there were some people who obviously didn't get it (for whatever reason), hence the need to explain it in other ways. Repeating "it doesn't reset" and rattling off definitions doesn't mean it's the only way people were looking at the situation. There were two types of resetting in question (one more obvious than the other). Nobody was trying to redefine any words. They were simply referring to something different than you were. By now, both questions have been answered and it's been re-clarified a few times with the posters now satisfied with the answers, so there isn't really much need to keep going over it again and again... lol
  18. I've had that issue for a few patches now. If I repeatedly alternate between pressing the Windows key and clicking on CoH's screen, I can eventually get the taskbar to take focus and then do whatever I want. The only way I found to negate the problem was to play in windowed mode instead, which I don't really want to have to do.
  19. What is your requirement for "will run Ultra Mode Graphics"?

Before I upgraded, I was using a 9600GT, and it worked just fine with all Ultra Mode options on low (but at 10-20fps at 1680x1050 res). That may not necessarily be ideal for most people (hence my upgrade), but it did still run.

I've had intermittent errors accessing the coh websites and even the forums for the last couple of weeks.

I visited the link just now, and nothing has been updated to reflect the new issue and multiple possible requirements yet.
  21. As far as I'm aware, you should be fine as long as our account doesn't become "unplayable".. and even then, they might allow something like 24 hours for re-subscription if you didn't realize it was about to run out. I've heard of people /petition'ing the reward in certain circumstances like that.

Even though you had no payment info, if you were still "Playable" yesterday, you should be fine.

I can't say for sure that it's always been that way for the history of CoH and nuke-type powers, but it's been as long as I can remember anyway. lol

That power does have a toHit check. If it misses, the animation will still go off around the foe, but nothing will actually happen. It can kinda be misleading.
  23. For the first issue, make sure you are actually testing it on a mob instead of just out in the open somewhere. The nuke wont "crash" endurance if it doesn't hit any foes.

As for the second issue, the endurance is given within a PBAoE of the foe. Make sure you are standing next to the foe you are hitting, or you wont get the benefit.

If it still doesn't seem to be working, than that's a heck of a thing. lol
I wonder if the Transference issue has anything to do with the levelshift on pseudo-pets.
    Does Transfusion still work?

Whether or not you think the usage of the word was correct, we realized people were looking at the situation incorrectly and needed to clarify it.

Like I said above, the weekly counter does reset. It's a new week, so any weekly counter that may exist would be at 0. Even if it's just a status variable that indicates 0 for not completed yet and 1 for completed, that's what allows up to get the special award for running it the first time each week, so it must be reset each week. It's that same status that gives us the badge credit instead.

I think that qualifies as proper usage of the term "reset".

As mentioned, even though there is no badge credit for that first run every week, the credit for extra runs carry over into the following weeks until enough are completed to earn the badge.

That information has now been provided and it turns out they are running NVidia instead as well. That's unfortunate, as I don't know which specific driver version for NVidia may fix it. I'm sorry.

So what do you do when you update your driver?
Did you download for the 8800 or the 8800M?

This should be the driver you need:
NVidia GeForce 8800M GTX for Windows Vista (32-bit)

As for whether or not the newest version fixes the problem or not.. I don't know.
