Neither The Color of Money nor Tron Legacy were terrible. They weren't great but they were certainly watchable.

    Spider Dog!
Does whatever a spider dog can.
Can he swing from a thread?

Ummmmm.... probably though he doesn't in the video.

Seriously, Hollywood needs to hire this dog as a superhero partner.

  3. I am freaking annoyed all to hell by this. I never get in on these events because I work Monday through Friday. I leave at 9am and generally don't get home till 9pm.

This time I was elated because the event was actually also occurring on Saturday and I could finally participate. Now Saturday gets canceled.

Too bad CoX hates the working class.
  4. I just subscribed to this guy the moment I saw his list of uploaded videos. Dragonball Z vs My Little Pony?!?!?!?

And now after watching several of his videos I'm glad I did subscribe.
  5. Well, this just means I won't be going to see any of them in the theater. I'll wait till they come out on cable. Then if I really really like them I'll buy the complete box set when it goes on sale. But if they take such a small book as the Hobbit and stretch it out into 3 Peter Jackson movies I definitely will need to have a fast forward button available.
  6. I've just been assuming everybody already knows this one. But since Thomas Jane keeps coming up. He was also one of the Vegan Police in Scott Pilgrim.
  7. I would have liked to see Tom Wlaschiha nominated for best supporting. Not because he was better than Peter or Masie but because I would have loved his acceptance speech (if he did it the way I would that is).

  10. I'm not sure I want Nolan involved in any movies any more. I mean he's really really good. I love his movies. But some of his fans (at least the Dark Knight ones) are genuine nutcases.

When the Avengers first came out and started setting box office records the DK fans were claiming it was because people were going to see the DKR trailer and then walking out of the theater.

Now, Rotten Tomatoes has closed comments on their DKR reviews. A couple of the reviewers posted bad reviews of DKR saying it didn't live up to the hype and wasn't as good as the previous 2. Fans were leaving insults and death threats in the comments. And remember, at this point virtually none of the general public has had a chance to see the movie so they were responding based on their preconceived fantasies. Like I said, nut cases.

My personal preference would be Joss and Kevin Smith cowriting it and Edgar Wright directing.

    Hey, I can dream can't I?

Amazon almost always has a huge price drop about a month after release. From there it will climb slowly back up and then drop even lower a few months later. I always wait that extra month.

That is a horrible price for blu-ray. I paid about $18 each for mine. And all of them are the blu-ray+dvd+digital editions.
  13. Oh so tempted. I already have all the blu-ray prequels but I love having fancy collections. The version I most want though is the eventual directors cut.

    This^

Even though they call them sewers the tunnels under the city carry rain water, water from washing down the streets, and any other water that makes it into the storm drains. Depending on how recently a large or protracted storm has flushed the streets the water can be fairly clean.

Now to my good/bad opinion of the movie.

Good: They definitely nailed the wise cracking Spider-Man. The special effects, the webbing effects and the writing were in my opinion all much better than the Raimi versions as well. I especially love the fact that they used parkour runners to do many of the Spider-Man stunts (heh, Peter Parkour). It made the movement look much more natural.

Bad: Webb is terrible at getting real emotions out of his actors. Emma Stone was wooden at best. She isn't the worlds greatest actress to begin with but it felt like she was walking through the part. Garfield was even worse. Every single scene he felt like he was acting out the emotions. Yes I know he was acting but it isn't supposed to feel like that when you are watching. In fact the only real emotions I felt from any of the actors were in the two places I shouldn't have. First was the Lizard. I chalk that one up to the animators work on his facial expressions. The second was Ben's phone message to Peter. Sheen came up with more real emotion in that scene where he wasn't even visible than he did in all his other scenes put together.

Conclusion: Good writing. Good action. No heart at all.

Agreed. I'm not sure why Scythus posted a bunch of links that don't actually go anywhere. Perhaps that is a subtle comment that there should have been a franchise.

You didn't understand the article Scythus. I know you say you did but in this case you are wrong. The author of that article actually meant that he agreed completely with what Heinlein said. He meant that his own thoughts were chaotic at best and that Heinlein's writings were so far beyond his comprehension that he was struggling just to get words down on paper. I know you think the author of that paper understood what he was writing but as you can see by my interpretation he obviously didn't.

    See how that works?

Not intending to insult or infuriate you but arguing that the person who wrote something didn't mean what he thought he meant is about the most specious argument I've ever heard.
  19. Kurt Russel as the kid who kicks Elvis in the shin in It Happened at the Worlds Fair.

Also fun to watch this movie if you live in the Seattle area because you get to see how much the Seattle Center has changed since the fair, and how much it hasn't.

All movies I enjoyed tremendously for what they were. Mindless action fun. And none of them had anything but the most tenuous connection to the original story. I don't care if a movie is a faithful adaption so long as I enjoy it. And I don't mind a reboot so long as it brings something completely new to the table. And bringing in the suits is definitely something new.

Plus it can be less violent and still be plenty violent. By less violent they aren't talking about bugs not being blown up. They are talking about things like reporters not getting ripped in two, Dizzy not getting skewered through the chest and shaken around and soldiers not having various body parts melted by acid. In fact if somebody is in powered armor you could still have them ripped into pieces and the mpaa would still consider it much less violent.

  25. OP.

Don't change the color of your text. Seriously just don't. The combination you chose makes your post pretty much unreadable on the blue background and there is no telling which color scheme readers prefer. The only color (other than the standard white) which I've found to be readable on all backgrounds is yellow. And even that becomes annoying if you do an entire post in it. It's possible the very person who might be able to solve your problem will just skip your message instead.
