  1. I was meh about the whole season. And I've come to realize that if this is the last season then I'm glad it went out this way. When I still absolutely love shows that are cancelled then I find myself still wishing for new episodes years later. Firefly and Defying Gravity being prime examples. Stargate Universe being the latest.

But when shows have a terrible ending (BSG and it's moronically literal Deus ex Machina) or a mostly dull season like Heroes or Torchwood then I don't really care if they come out with something new.
  2. And yet there is a tragic side to this story of a long lived and beloved universe. The fact that Paramount insists on charging twice as much for a single season of a 45 year old series as anybody does for a new season of of an ongoing series. Right now I can get Chuck seasons 1-3 together for less than season 1 of STTOS.
  3. I think the question is

What is the true purpose of the aglet and why is is so sinister?
  4. Ok, I'm sure the thread will be deleted or at least locked before tomorrow but I'll chime in with more information on the game.

There are two factions, basically good guys and bad guys.
Multiple species and classes for both factions.
The three guys you see in the cinematic and game play were pre-generated characters that are used in the demo play at the show. The reason for the pre-generation is because ncsoft found that players were using up a large chunk of their 40 minute play time creating their characters. Remind you of any other games?

The bunny girl doesn't have to be a bunny or purple. That species is anthropomorphic and can have choices of different colors, different ears, different tails. I believe the species name translates to furries. They are psychics and they are the support class. They have heals, buffs, and debuffs. however they also have a decent amount of dps.

The guy with the guns was human. Can't remember the class name but it's basically a techno mage. They use technology enhanced with their own magic abilities. They are pretty much a blapper.

Don't remember the species name of the rock guy either but he was a mercenary. Basically a scrapper.

The part that sounds awesome about the game is you don't have to play it fast twitch like they were showing. The game mechanics allow for slow and steady taking on of foes all the way up to full on scrapper lock.

Also there are trees of specialization you can take. You can be a Warrior (most your missions are tailored toward fighting), An Explorer (most your missions are tailored toward exploring out of the way places and you can even earn abilities that let you get to places other specialties can't), A collector (think missions designed to satisfy badge collectors.).

And there are three forms of end game. There is PvP. There are group raids. And there are solo or small group missions. That's basically what I remember from the panel and demo. Anybody else who was there can correct or add to it.
  5. Currently have Terry Goodkind's "The Omen Machine" waiting on deck while I'm finishing up Darragh Metzger's "Strawberry Roan"

Incidentally Strawberry Roan is a great cross between a tall tale and fantasy. Kind of like if a Pecos Bill story were written as a serious fantasy novel, with some post apocalyptic stuff thown in.

Oh, and you won't find Strawberry Roan in book stores because Darragh is self published through a small press. But Her books are available on Amazon and the Kindle editions are only $3.99.

    Where's Wall-E?

62 Security robot from Blake's 7 episode Seek-Locate-Destroy (man I wish they would release this in a high quality remastered dvd)

123 MAMA Muppets Dudley Moore episode. (knew there had to be a muppets robot somewhere in the bunch)

YES! Thank you, that one has been driving me crazy. I knew it was from one of the old serials but couldn't remember or figure out which one.
  8. Don't want it. Not because of it taking me out of the game but because it will lead to the same thing you see in pocket d or any of the icons. A group of people clustered around the trainer and not moving for a long time. And Liberty will most likely be the most used trainer. So you get a (hopefully) huge influx of new players trying to fight their way to the trainer. Being new to the whole clicking on the trainer routine they quite likely won't know the various tricks like using /target or rotating the camera to an overhead view.

In order to not cause this hassle plus not break immersion just let players change their costumes from a dropdown menu. Spiderman made his own costume. So did Batman. In fact almost every comic book hero or villain who didn't inherit their costume made it themselves. Incredibles is the only hero property I can think of where there was a tailor specifically for heroes.

I haven't read most of the thread so if these points have been made before then consider this an emphasis and agreement with them.
  9. And as for top 10 geek guns. The Samaritan from Hellboy.
  10. Stormbringer is only unknown if you aren't really a geek, or even geekish. It's like not knowing who Deja Thoris or Grey Mouser are.

The sword has been mentioned in books that weren't written by Moorcock. Various metal bands have written entire albums dedicated to the series. The song Black Blade by Blue Oyster Cult is about Stormbringer.
  11. Needs Talon's sword from Sword and the Sorcerer.

    Where's Wall-E?

    25. A.P.E.X. from the movie of the same name. A cheesy but fun low budget killer time traveling robot movie.

    66. Zero from Earth 2

    69. X-5 from Atomic Betty. This one was tricky because I wasn't a fan of the cartoon but I remembered seeing a yellow robot with a red haired girl in some space cartoon. So I google image searched red hair space girl and there it was.

    88. Octus from Symbionic Titan

    104. Blinky from a twisted short movie

    107. AMEE from Red Planet I really like this movie even though everyone I know says it sucks.

The frustrating part is there are others on there that I recognize but not where they are from.
  13. Come on folks. Can't you see that somebody hacked Ultimuses account? There is only one topic started by him on the general discussions page.

Until at least half the discussions have his name on them I refuse to believe he has returned.
  14. I'm like the Anti-Steelclaw. I've never rerolled nor will I ever do so. I just prefer to make a new alt. On top of that some characters have powers I've completely forgotten about.

Can you guess I'm a very casual player?
  15. It was bound to happen like this because people vote for what they know. And they vote for things that were in their mind recently.

What I would like to see is a top 100 you never heard of. Not literally never heard of since that would mean nobody could vote except randomly. But have a top 100 list that eliminates all the masters (Heinlein, Asimov, Bradbury) and anything that has been adapted in some way or another into popular culture (Watchmen, Hobbit, Sword of Truth).

    No panel at PAX?

    *sigh*

Won't be at the M&G. Work Friday night.

Won't be at the main panel. Only have a Sunday pass.

Oh well. At least I'll still be able to wander the floor and see all the nifty new games and get some swag.
  17. The reason Durakken is making this argument is because he never goes to theaters. Every movie he comments on he has only seen either on dvd or a pirate camcorder recording if the dvd isn't out yet.

Ok, I misspoke. I should have said great apes as in the larger ones like Gorillas. At any rate if it's more of a jail break sort of thing that makes it more plausible. But all the trailers make it look like an army of apes going up against an army of people. Imagine that, trailers being misleading. I'm shocked.

I could easily accept a James Bond or even A-Team of apes breaking out of a city. Just not an army. But those apes are going to have to do one heck of a lot of breeding to create a force large enough to take over the country. Currently the odds are only about 100,000 to 1. Maybe only 50000 to 1 if you count spider monkeys and reality show contestants.

I'll still probably wait till it comes to cable though.

Won't need the fan base if it's done correctly and seriously. Treated like a Star Wars or Serenity rather than a super hero genre it could do well as generic space opera. Which after all is what the original comic was.
  20. Just found your solution, probably. Apparently the 275.33 drivers are causing crashes in certain circumstances. I would suggest rolling back.

There is an explanation for how the apes eventually inherit the earth, but I won't spoil it here.
Reasonable except for the fact that there are barely a couple hundred of any species of ape left on the planet let alone in a single city.

I guess I just have difficulty accepting the concept because it's a simple fact. I can accept superhero, fantasy, and alien invasion films a lot more easily because there is absolutely zero knowledge of what is actually out there other than in our limited perception range. On the other hand the number of apes/gorillas/chimps/orangutans/etc is pretty well known and there aren't more than a handful of any of them in any city.

My feelings aren't the fault of the movie though. I just don't personally like that sort of playing with facts. If you liked it then for you it was a good movie and I won't try to argue you out of that. Trying to argue against somebody's personal opinion is folly and arrogance wrapped up in a great big batch of duh.
  22. The problem is that it follows the pacing standards of American television series. Go watch the first couple of seasons or Torchwood, or watch the original Being Human or Misfits. Those shows are why I love some British television series. The shows are fast paced and cram in a ton of stuff happening while simultaneously maintaining a coherent story line. Non episodic American television series tend to spend 3 or 4 episodes telling one episode worth of story, the rest being filler.

I'm tired of every episode having 10 minutes worth of Rex springing a leak and another 10 of Oswald walking down hallways.
  23. Here is the simple answer, at least in my opinion.

Do you plan to delete the music file or movie if you cancel your subscription to spotify/netflix?

If you will then I see no problem with it. In fact it could save you from going over your bandwidth cap if for instance you want to watch the same movie several times in a row or have music constantly streaming 24 hours a day.

If you keep the files however it's piracy and is morally wrong... mostly.

The reason I say mostly is that RIAA is actually the biggest pirate in existence when it comes to stealing from artists.

How much do they steal? Take a look at this

Edit: Point I'm making here is that loss of record sales really isn't going to hurt a music artist who goes through traditional publishing outlets. They make their money from concerts.
  24. Won't bother going to see it unless somebody who can seen it can truthfully answer yes to the following question.

Did they give a valid explanation for why there are apparently 10,000 or so apes in a single city? And was the situation the same the world over?

Because the only way the ape revolt could in any way work is if it was just like in the original movies. Virtually every family had one as a pet so they were literally everywhere.
