Constant lockup a few seconds into game

Right, now I'm utterly baffled. I've reinstalled the game client and started off with much lower graphics settings than I was running previously, and everything's (sort of) fine. In that I've had just one freeze in 4 or 5 hours of play, rather than a guaranteed freeze within 15 seconds of entering the game.
What baffles me is I've changed nothing at all on my system, hardware configuration, or even regular program updates. I've played two months with all Ultra mode settings maxed out, without a problem, and now I'm playing with settings at "performance". It's bizarre.
I'm fairly certain it's not a CPU temperature issue as I'm familiar with those and resolved them previously. Possibly graphic's card temp? I have no idea where to start testing if that's the issue, so any advice would be welcome.
It is possible that it's the gpu overheating. Visually check to make sure the fan on the card is spinning cleanly and that there is no dust build up. Whatever program you have used to monitor you cpu temperature should be able to monitor the gpu as well.
And even though you can't get cohhelper to run how about listing what card you have and which driver version. And one other possible way to check if it's a failing video card is to get speedfan or some other software which can control the fan on your video card and set it to 100%. If you can run the game in high settings for a while with the fan set to 100% then the card is definitely failing and it's threshold temperature has dropped considerably.

I'm using a GTX 8800 with driver version 275.33.
I'll check out the card following your advice and see what I can discover.
Just found your solution, probably. Apparently the 275.33 drivers are causing crashes in certain circumstances. I would suggest rolling back.

One bit of an oddity that it may be [or not, just tossing out there]
If you have logging turned on [and specifically, if you have a combat window open], you may be getting stuttering/freezes on certain combat events [AEs are really problematic for them in my experience].

Thanks again for the suggestions guys. It now appears I have a general system problem, rather than it being CoH specific.
I'm seeing some system instability and occasional blue screens.
I've installed the windowns SDK and analysed the minidump from the last blue screen, but interpreting it is proving beyond me.

Hi folks,
I've already submitted a support request on this one, but I thought I'd see what the resident player base gurus had to say, just in case.
I'm getting complete system freezes a few seconds after I log into game. What's frustrating me is I've changed absolutely nothing on my system since yesterday, when everything was running fine. I've even checked through my stability monitor logs to see if anything's been updated, but nothing has.
Sadly I can't get CoH Helper to work properly, so can't provide the info from that. It won't detect my CoH registry settings. I'm running it on the same login as my game, and I run without UAC on so nothing has the "run as administrator" boxes ticked. If anyone has any other suggestions as to why it's not detecting properly, please let me know.

Verifying the CoH install using the launcher
Clean reinstall of video and sound drivers
Memory test
Checked DXDiag for any errors
