Both Phoenix and his wife have done an interview. Well worth watching and reading.

Quote:Personally I think completely trashed comics are much much better than a perfectly preserved comic book worth $50 or $100 or even $1000. Because a trashed comic means that some kid, or kids read that comic again and again. Maybe they leaped over tall buildings with a single bound. Maybe they faced down an unstoppable juggernaut. Or maybe they were just a red headed teenager in Riverdale. But that dirty torn and battered comic book took them away from mundane reality and into their favorite fantasy worlds again and again. All my physical comics are trashed... the closest ones that I have that might have been worth money are...
Batman 500 or 501 which is the Bruce vs Az-Bat in the mall issue
Amazing Spider Man 50th Anniversary(i think) holofoil issue with Spidey fighting Kraven
and Batman #0
My grandparents had some really old comics, but nothing really worthwhile so meh
And that's worth more than any comic book that was sealed away unread and unloved. -
Quote:As to a red name replying. Have you ever read the description of this forum? This part specifically? "This is NOT a forum where official technical/QA support is available. For technical assistance email support@coh.com."This is sad and pathetic. No replies from any name in red. Even my emails to the developers go unanswered. The customer service of this game has definitely gone down hil at a rapid pace. Sad to think I pay for this game monthly and they don't give a crap.
Now, as to the lower ticket amounts. Do you play exclusively support classes or do you play damage dealing classes some times? If you have a duo playing and one is doing the great majority of the damage while the second one is mainly buffing/debuffing then the support character will wind up with less tickets. -
O portal. As many people as possible with assemble the team. Everybody stop by Wentworths and buy a Wentworth teleporter.
Team balance doesn't matter nearly so much as travel. -
If you have absolutely no confidence in your ability to do this then I would take it to the tech so long as he only charges you around $50. It's really easy to swap a power supply and even easier to swap a video card... provided you know what you are doing or can figure it out. But if you do it wrong then you could wind up with various plugs not going to where they need to be and maybe a broken clip or two.

Quote:Wrong. I myself have been within 12 feet of a 10 pointer who just looked at me then looked around and ambled away. I've been within a few feet of does and fawns too. I've talked to them and had them glance at me then continue doing whatever they were up to before I so rudely interrupted them.Nevermind that Carl was far closer than a buck that size would allow.
If you live in an area where they aren't hunted then they have zero fear of humans unless you charge them or yell and wave at them. -

The best way to implement this would be to eliminate the *#($&#($* large Orenbega maps. And the medium sized one that has all the spawn portals in it. Those maps have little hidden nooks and passages that seem to be deliberately designed to make players rage quit.

I think Sophia has been bitten by a werewolf and is going to come back later this season as a zombie killing machine whose weakness is that she hates people who sparkle.

Ok, how are you connected to your provider? Wireless to router, wired to router or wired to modem?
If wireless to router then try running a cable to the router. If that works then your wireless connection isn't strong enough but things can be done to fix it.
If you are connected to the router by cable then try connecting directly to the modem. If that clears it up then you likely have a bad router. You can replace it or just keep a direct to modem connection.
If while connected to the modem you are still having the problem then call your provider and have them run a remote diagnostic on the modem. Odds are that they will say nothing is wrong but it is the best next step to take.
Other things you can do are to perform a visual inspection of your cable. Make sure all the connections are snug. The one to the modem and where it comes out of the wall. If you have access to the cable box where it enters your house make sure that the connection is tight in there and that there are no signs of moisture in the box. Basically check any connection you can get to and verify that it's tight and that no moisture can be getting into the connection.
It can be a major pain tracking down the problem but working at it yourself is a better option than trusting the cable company to do it. Most the time if they do send somebody out they will just hook up a monitor and if the signal is good for the few seconds they are hooked up they will tell you there is no problem.
Oh, and pay attention to the weather when the problem is occurring. If it only happens when it is raining for instance then telling the cable company that will give them a valid reason for checking the connections. -
Ok, how about this. What add ons do people having the problem use? Map pack? Icons? Sound mods? etc...?
Also have you changed character order around and saved that?
Basically anything other than just installing the game and letting it do its own thing.
There has to be something in common with people experiencing this. -

That notebook really really isn't made for playing City of Heroes. And before you say "But I play <insert game here> at maximum settings and it works fine." I'll head you off. Most other games on the market today use DirectX. City of Heroes uses OpenGL. OpenGL is much more stressful on cards and tends to raise their temperature rapidly.
Second. Intel integrated graphics are just plain crap. They really aren't intended for advanced games, just browsing and watching videos. Intel is notoriously slow to correct conflicts with new games because the company just plain doesn't care. The chips work just fine for their intended use.
So odds are that the reason you are getting the BSOD is overheating. Your best bet is to play in safe mode and see if that stops the problem. If it does then you can gradually change different settings till you find the one that crashes your system. You can also try getting a laptop cooling pad to see if that helps.
But don't expect great results. You haven't got a game playing system. You have a multimedia system. -
One of the really interesting things in game that not many people know is that when you use your rest power the reason you can't move is because it stacks a huge hold on you. Eat a stack of breakfrees and you can move around while still resting.
Or at least you could a year or so ago when I tested it. -
Quote:I have the GTX 460 and I'm using ancient drivers. I haven't updated them in about a year. I never bother updating my drivers unless I have a performance drop that is actually noticeable. Since CoH plays the same for me as it did a year ago with good frame rates I haven't bothered.I had major flashing right after the patch. A repair from the Launcher corrected it for the most part, but it still happens from time to time. Basically, the "world" disappears for a tiny fraction of a second, leaving only characters hanging against the "skybox" backdrop.
Running nvidia GTX 460 here, 280.26 drivers (newer beta drivers are available, but I'm loathe to try betas to fix a problem in a single game) on Windows 7 Home Premium (x64).
Since I am experiencing no flashing issues what so ever so if you don't absolutely need the newer drivers for some other game you are playing you might want to try stepping them back a few to see if that fixes it. -
The kind of lag you describe is almost always network lag due to a bad connection. In game type /netgraph 1
What you should be seeing is short green lines like a freshly mowed lawn. What I'm betting you will see is tall green lines with red and yellow spikes thrown in. Try it in game and report back with what you see.
type /netgraph 0 to turn it off -
Quote:You don't have to solo it to explore it at your leisure. I completed it with a team and got the badges but I didn't exit. I stuck around and listened to Kane complain for a while. Then I worked my way back through the mission exploring all the areas and admiring the little touches like the spooky paintings, the animal heads with glowing eyes and the glowing eyes behind the grates. I danced around on top of the cauldron full of candy then waved goodbye to the wolf and left. I probably spent half an hour inside after mission completion.I would like the option to solo the Haunted House if only to be able to explore the environment at my leisure. Teams always power through and I feel like I am missing stuff.
ETA: I had no problems getting the Zombie badge on the two PUGs I did the trial with. You just avoid the Abomination and kill Zombies. As long as you have a few minutes to spare, that was enough to kill the Abomination. -
I had just logged out when I saw this post and had to log in again to see it myself. Neat place.
-
11.10 driver I listed is a beta driver so it won't be listed as the officially latest driver. And being a beta it could have other problems. But it was rushed out specifically to correct the flashing problems people were having while playing Rage.

Finally just got around to watching it. I liked it but hated it at the same time. Hated in that it annoyed the crap out of me with the use of tropes. Now normally I don't mind tropes because despite people jumping on them they are in most cases used sparingly and the only places you see them in large volume are parodies.
Except in this one we had the
Vehicle breaking down at the worst possible location (blocked road)
Herd of zombies happening to come across them just as they were broken down. Thousands of miles of highway and these zombies just happen to be wandering along theirs right as they break down.
Child making a noise that attracts the enemy.
Somebody dropping something that attracts the attention of the home (motorhome) invader just as they are walking out the door.
Somebody injuring themselves severely and rendering themselves pretty much helpless while trying to hide from the bad guys.
Multiple cases of people tripping over nothing as they are running away.
The rustling in the brush turning out to be a cute animal... which lures somebody into danger.
Like I said, normally tropes don't bother me but I found myself talking to the characters saying stuff like "Ok, now fall down and scramble frantically along the ground." "Ignore the bell, it's just the wind ringing it or something like that." "Stay away from the deer or you're gonna die kid." and then watching a version of what I said happen immediately afterwords.
I'll still watch because I liked last season so much but I'm expecting the following to happen this season.
They will see a helicopter and run out into a clearing to wave at it. At which point people in the helicopter will open fire on them.
They will shoot a zombie from a distance only to find out that it was a living person who had been on the run and injured.
They will add an attractive young woman to their group. And she will lure them into a zombie attack for some reason. Most likely to lure the zombies away from the building her sister is trapped in.
Some sweet little kid they find will turn out to be sociopathic and evil and have psychic powers...
Ok, maybe not that last one. -
Only printing in advance. Most authors who put an ebook out also have a POD option. Some people just like to have a physical book and it only makes sense to give them the opportunity to get it.
-
Incidentally you are allowed to mention other games now. You can't compare and contrast or promote those other games however you are allowed to say things like I play WoW and Aion.
-
Apparently this problem has also been happening for people who have an ATI card and play rage.
AMD has released a preview version of their latest driver The AMD catalyst 11.10 version 3 preview. This seems to have solved the problem in rage. Hopefully it will solve the problem in CoH as well. I can't test it myself since I use Nvidia but one of you might try it. -
Oh, and Durakken. Vanity press is just a name that was given to paying to have your book printed. The name was pretty much created by published authors who thought that anybody who had to pay to have a book published wasn't a real author and just wanted to impress their friends and family. In other words being done for vanity.
Even though self publishing of books is becoming more and more common and is actually used by quite a few popular authors "Vanity press" has become permanently associated with self publishing. So the reference to your brothers book being a vanity book doesn't necessarily mean he is vain. It probably just means he has no idea how much publicity is part of the book buying world.
Go into any book store poetry section and you will actually find a few books that are nothing more than a poem on one page with a matching picture on the facing page. But the reason those books can sell is vanity. Not the vanity of the author but the vanity of the buyer who has been conned into thinking that having that book on their coffee table will make them look intellectual or worldly.
As others have said selling through the Amazon Kindle store is probably the best option. Your brother may be tempted to try and sell his book at $2.99 to $9.99 because that is the break point for Kindle sales. In that range the author gets 70% of the sale price. Below or above that point they only get 35%. But I absolutely guarantee that a book of poems published by an unknown author at $2.99 will not sell any copies unless somebody accidentally clicks on it. At 99 cents however some people might be willing to give it a try and if it is good then word will spread. And 35% of $0.99 is a lot more than 70% of nothing.
Lastly HERE is a link to the FAQ page of Kindle publishing. -
Quote:I don't know where you got the whole "praise for not reading books" thing came from I stated the facts. I don't read books. Most people don't. It's idiotic to judge one way or the other based on that. I read a ton, just not books because books bore me for the most part and there is no where comfortable to read... and physical things, let alone books, get ruined where i live. The point is there are a number of reasons i don't read books in general. I have no problem with listening to them or reading in general. I'm probably one of the few people that actually read the text of missions in MMORPGs so :P
Weird. I know only 3 people who don't read books although they do read magazines. Of the people I know who read books every one of them reads at least one book a month. By know I mean friends and acquaintances.
I suppose it's different for different areas. Probably not a lot of book reading going on in ghetto areas I suppose. And of course in High School 80 percent of the population thought book reading was punishment rather than entertainment.
Anyway, point being. Don't assume that most people don't read. Maybe most people you know don't read but like I said, virtually everybody I know reads books. Not reading books doesn't make you strange, but you are missing out on a lot. If the books you read are boring you then you are reading the wrong books.
Now I'm going to go off on a tangent as to why I have found that most people who hate reading stories do so. Reading is just like any other task, the more you do it the better you get and the faster you get. I came up with an experiment to try on a person who hated reading. I actually got the result I expected and had some of my friends try it on people they knew who didn't like reading. Maybe I can spread the test across a wider area by putting it here.
I just took a random book and had the person read one page of the book and I timed how long it took them. Then I timed how long it took me to read the same page out loud. In most of the test cases the person who didn't like reading took as long or longer to read the page as it took to read the page out loud.
Now I know in my own experience I read much faster than I am capable of speaking. If I'm reading a book and I do so out loud or even just moving my lips along with the words then the book seems to crawl and isn't nearly as interesting. When I'm reading silently to myself I'm not even aware of the words on the page. In my head I'm seeing the actions taking place and listening to the characters speak the dialogue.
So that is why I think some people hate reading. They were never brought into it at an elementary level. They never "exercised" their reading muscles so that they gradually got better. For them it's like watching a movie
