And it may not happen all that quickly. It's kind of like saying "We've confirmed that the problem with your engine running roughly is the fuel mixture." Well since there are a ton of things that can cause a wonky fuel mixture you have to work your way through them till you find out what is causing the imbalance, then try to find out why it's doing that.
  3. 86 degrees is fine for that card playing CoH. The game stresses most video cards pretty bad and the maximum safe temperature of your card is 105c. Of course it's also possible that it's just a bad card, that does happen from time to time.

But to check if it's your card you can use speedfan to set the fan speed to maximum. It will be noisy but will keep your card temperatures lower. So here are the steps. In game get yourself a warehouse mission. Exit to desktop and check your card temperatures till they are in the 60 something range. Then set your fan speed to maximum, load up the game and enter the warehouse. If the textures are still bad then check your card temp. If it's not high then you likely just have a corrupted graphics file.

One last thing. Do you ever see infinite planes? This is where a line or surface from an object will stretch all the way across your screen. If you do see that then it's definitely a failing card.
  4. As for why you can't focus on things at long range. Turn off Depth of Field in your graphics settings. It's supposed to simulate the way that when you are focusing your vision on something close things in the distance are blurred. Instead all it simulates is having a blurry screen.

Also in game you can set your draw distance to maximum by typing "/visscale 4" without the quotes. It won't stick between sessions but you can easily bind it to a key and use it each time you log in.

Finally try running CoHHelper and posting the results here. It will show us what your hardware is and what your in game settings are. That will help us to suggest changes that may improve your visual quality.

    Originality

Since you are a Tick fan I'll use it (my favorite cartoon series ever) to illustrate my beliefs of originality. Die Fladermaus, American Maid and Clown are obviously parodies of Batman, Wonder Woman and Hulk. Omnipitous is an even more blatant parody of Galactus. And yet all of them are original characters because they are clever parodies that required thought and original personality traits.

Every creation ever was inspired by something. It doesn't matter if it was a movie character, a book character, or a sunset reflecting off a lake. If an idea is inspired by something then it's original. If it's a copy of something with some minor details changed then it's not original.

And incidentally I too love the Tick monologues.
  6. Well, if you have wireless set up (and obviously you do) then I would suggest changing your router password (you do have password enabled right?) because if you live close enough to somebody else they may be using your network.

One thing you can try is when the slowdown time is getting close disconnect your router from the modem and connect your computer directly to it. If you don't experience the slowdown then it must be something to do with the router. If you do experience the problem then it has to be your computer or the service provider.

And lastly, I've found CoH to be much much more sensitive to lost packets than any other MMO. It takes very little to cause delays and rubberbanding and no more than a couple seconds of lost connection to mapserve the game dropping you back to the login screen.
  7. I'm still using the same computer case and dvd drive I had seven years ago. I've got a different motherboard, different processor, different ram, different hard drives and a different video card. By your logic it's still a seven year old computer. And every sports team is still the same team it was seven years ago despite changes in players and coaching.

This game has been updated so much in both graphics and game engine that it is a completely different game than it was seven years ago. Most companies would have called the game City of Heroes 2 and released it as a new version. Paragon chose to let the player base keep their old favorite characters and groups while still releasing what is essentially a new game.

However even with the higher settings and your lower end card you should not be seeing that kind of lag at the lower settings. There are two things you can try.

First try disabling SLI. There was a bug at one point that kept SLI from working. I thought it was fixed but maybe it's only fixed with newer cards. If disabling it stops the lag then we have an answer to what is causing your problem and information showing that the bug has not been completely eliminated.

Second. Do you have logging enabled? If a log file gets too big it can bring a machine grinding to a halt, especially if a ton of new data is being added to the log. It shouldn't be happening in just one or two zones but if logging isn't enabled then that is eliminated as a possibility.

The great thing about Crenson is that you could get a different unknown actor to play him every episode. Even if the show or movies became a major hit that's at least one actor who couldn't demand a higher salary. At least not successfully.

Val Kilmer to play the lizard king.

    The Walking Dead

Guess what. If you were starting to like Shane then you'll start to like him again later. After all, Jack Harkness tortured his own grandson to death right in front of his daughter, and yet this year he was a good guy again. People tend to forget the bad stuff when it happens to a character they have no emotional investment in.

I'm still getting annoyed at the sheer survival stupidity of these folks though.

"That was a waste of an arrow." Hey, I've got an idea. Why don't you cut the rope and get your arrow back?

Hmmmm... we're standing above all these zombies and they can't reach us. Now we could pull out a machete and start chopping off hands. Then once they can't grab us we could start splitting heads. Nah, lets just jump down and try running.

And if you have people going out on an urgent mission that may require them to pass through a bunch of zombies, how about giving them more than 10 rounds of ammo each?

Speaking of ammo they should all be armed with .22 cal rifles. You can find them by the truckload at any sporting goods store. Plus probably 90% of homes in the country have at least one. And there is more .22 cal ammo available then any other caliber.

Ok, done ranting now. And if it means anything I only tend to rant about shows I like. If I don't like the show there is no reason to complain about stupid stuff they do.

I'll test with newer drivers, but I'll have to check the date. Last update caused massive BSOD issues when SLI was enabled.

Actually considering the monitors you seem to have I'm surprised you are still using just an 8800. Just personal choice but I actually prefer that games don't support ancient cards. By ancient I'm talking about the gaming world time, not real world. Catering to both old and new systems leads to what you get in WoW. Painted on costume parts and two dimensional special effects.

In other words for it's age the game is well optimized. It hasn't stuck with the technology requirements and visual quality it had at release. Instead it is continuing to push its graphics quality to higher limits. Again, just personal opinion. When older cards become incapable of running the game it doesn't bother me any more than I'm bothered that they don't allow scooters on the freeway.

Lastly as to your problem. I can't really say why this is only happening in those two zones. The only thing that comes to mind for me is player population and all the new costume bits. Although that wouldn't really apply to First Ward. You can try freeing up space on your C drive and defragging it so that there is more contiguous space for the swap file.
  12. Are you the only one on your cable? Any chance there might be somebody else who starts downloading or uploading around that time?

And the way you check your connectivity while in game is to type /netgraph 1

You will start to see colored bars in the lower right of your screen. short green indicate good connectivity. Tall green indicate high ping times. I don't remember what yellow is, probably extremely high transmission times. Red is lost packets.

You're only saying that because it's YOUR FAULT!!!

I'm still kinda iffy on how it's your fault but I think it has something to do with your avatar. No cat smiles that much unless it's up to no good.
  14. I don't think that the main problem will be that they can't adapt the scale. I think it will be that tv shows (at least ones not overseen by Joss Whedon) don't like to kill off main characters. And the Wild Card series makes Joss look like an amateur.
  15. Are you saying you aren't familiar with Heavy Metal? Not the music genre but the magazine and animated movie. It's been in magazine and comic shops for thirty something years now. It stopped being published for about 10 years somewhere in there but restarted about 10 years ago. So I suppose I should say it has been in shops on and off for about 30 years.

Heavy Metal is Metal Hurlant with English translations. The preview doesn't look like any of the series from the magazine that I remember though I haven't read it for a few years. But with Michael Jai White I'm looking forward to it.

And if they did that then paying players would turn free players into recipe farms. You could play with a full team and yet guarantee that every time a recipe dropped you would be the one to get it.
  18. Chuck is not the Morgan. Being knocked out as he was Morgan proved quite nicely that he is still the Morgan.

I'm quite pleased with Grimm so far.
  19. I would say their best bet would be to start a web series of shorts, say 15 minutes or so. Stories that briefly told each of the short stories in the first couple books. Jetboy, Turtle, Tachyon etc... Then make the movies based on the mosaic novels with Tachyon as the thread that ties the story together.
  20. You have to change it to a light color for it to work. There appears to be a secondary red layer to the eyes that overrides the darker colors.

    The Walking Dead

Mundane has been used as a term for non sci-fi and fantasy initiated people since the 70s at least. It was common at science fiction conventions back then. Let's freak out the mundanes.
  22. Incidentally the actual video interviews have very little to do with the printed interview. It's like two different sections of the same interview along with some subjective interpretation thrown in.
  23. I'll admit this is very strange. If you are getting half tickets it's almost like you are level pacted only for tickets instead of exp.

I've repeated this several times and without fail the blinking comes back regardless of how long or short I am playing without the blinking effect.

If you are so inclined, you might try this out and see if it has the same effect for you. If it does, bug it and maybe post your results to this forum.

Hopefully we can isolate this bug and provide enough testing to get it fixed asap.
I think you figured it out. I was experiencing absolutely no problem with this. I switched to a character who was in a supergroup. I changed her supergroup colors around so that they did not match her regular colors. I ran around and suddenly started experiencing the problem. Switching out of supergroup mode did not help.

    Why do(es)......

Off topic but I do still laugh at the "range is mitigation" argument for blasters because I remember when it was exactly like that.

You could put a couple range SOs in your attacks. You edge closer to a group until you are just within snipe range. Hit build up and snipe. The Lieutenant drops and the rest of the group come running at you. Pick your next target and start firing. Then your next. Then and only then do you have to deal with the last two members of the group who have finally gotten in range.

Now you try the same thing and some guy instantly pulls out a pistol that has the same range as your rifle. Yes I know this was to prevent hover snipe because it was zero risk to reward but there are many other ways to earn zero risk to reward experience and all of them including the sniping are too slow to be worthwhile.

As for the "Why do". Why is it that when you rescue people they often thank you and say they can't wait to get out of there then they turn around and run deeper into the building? Did they forget their lunch? Do they have to clock out or risk being fired?
