  1. The problem is that the powersets are compensated for having lower damage by receiving secondary effects: -Acc, -End, -rchg, etc.

However, those secondary effects were nerfed for PvP to become nigh-useless.. such as -End for elec/, /elec, and /kin sets (well, except for hero side) as well as in PPPs.

It isn't for lack of balance, it is simply that killing the opponent faster is much more useful than making them hit you less, making it so they run out of endurance in an extended fight, make their attacks recharge slower... mitigation is good, winning is better.

In addition, the dev's seriously need to stop coding balance in INTERCAL.
  2. By that merit, I could win at PvP by zoning to Sharkhead Isle. That is skill enough to avoid [certain powersets]. Beating, that is a different story... sure, I could beat any powerset as long as I am in a team of 8 vs. 1, except for Ice/EM tanks.

I read somewhere on the forums that unresistable damage was given to Blasters because that's all they do - deal damage.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Blasters also have holds, snares, slows, -recharge, stuns, as well as access to Personal Forcefield, Hibernate, Powerpools, and inspirations. So in reality, damage is NOT all they do.

    [ QUOTE ]
AS is the only reliable unresisted damage Villains have. The only other source villainside is Scourge, which doesn't help until they're already low. Heroes have consistent unresisted damage from Blaster attacks, Scrapper crits, and Containment after a few mezzes (though BFs will defeat that).

    [/ QUOTE ]

AS is only reliable when the opposing side can't interrupt you. There is nothing villain-side that can prevent the heroes from getting their inherent aside from the same methods available to heroes (e.g. staying in constant motion, popping acolades/inspirations, team buffs, et al.). Because villains are chained to their inherents and hero inherents are added as afterthought, it makes a big difference.

    [ QUOTE ]
Containment? Bahaha. Yea... those controllers can really dish out the damage, eh? :/
Please, they're not even close to being on par damage-wise with most other ATs (maybe they are bottom of the barrel even?)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Controllers with their epics were on par with blasters. This was recently changed They are now in line with the damage output Corruptors and un-dommed Dominators dish out. Their un-containment-based damage is now also on par with unhidden stalkers and brutes without fury... at ranged. With the availability of holds, still. *shrug* Glory days, rose-coloured glasses and all that.
  4. By that merit, Blasters should lose thier 30% unresistable 1.125 damage bonus... Scrappers should lose their ~5-15% unresistable crit bonus... Defenders lose their unresistable debuffs... Controllers lose containment unresistable

    ...to their previous kill...

People are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too pissy about the other side's burst damage.
  5. I would just say replace the title or add a new one:
    {Liberty's} Angry Green Man
    {Virtue's} Angry Green Man

Or do it as a badge:
Angry Green Man - Liberty Legends
Angry Green Man - Virtue's Villagers

Make it so it only shows in PvP zones and you earn it when you hit a cross-server PvP zone or Arena.
  6. Not all PvP'ers post on the forums, but do read them heavily. We would all be back to square one because it would be "I lurk, but I PvP" messages to register for the clandestine meeting and poll, and it could just as easily be folks lying and wanting to skew the votes there.

This is as close to it as we can get.

The survey is cast for the common player, after a point, a republic of the PvPSGs should be formed and do their own electoral college vote and let the common poll have some bearing on the final decision.

That is, if you want to have a more solid and believable decision made overall.
  7. The second line in Ex Libris's poll is:

    [ QUOTE ]
If you do not PvP or are not interested in learning how to PvP please do not participate in this poll.

    [/ QUOTE ]

...Is like a restaurant saying "Please, No Smoking." It doesn't mean you can smoke in there, they are just asking nicely. So no, you don't have every right.
  8. Because coming into the PvP forums to sour the decision of a community you are not a part of actively is just silliness.
  9. Bulk discounts would go along nicely with the 1 month, 3 month, 6 month et. al. plans in place for subscription.
  10. I'm totally stoked for the new boobie shields from Vanguard.
  11. Shivan and Nuke rewards were balanced around gankers. Think of it this way... if all the PvP'ers move to one server, there are 7 others were you can pretty much farm them uninterrupted without any risk whatsoever.
  12. 1/10th of the zones on any server are PvP zones. Just stick to the other 9/10ths and you won't get ganked.
  13. I felt a great disturbance in the force... as if a million blasters cried out "PL MEH!"... and were suddenly /ignore'd.
  14. WoW = 7,000,000 Players
    Co* <<<<<<<<<<<<&l t;< 7,000,000

The idea of shared missions randomly assigned is only good when you have a large pool of people that want to participate. Otherwise, what you are looking for are arena matches with goals -- and when put into the player's hands, will undoubtably get exploited (or have the potential in the Dev's eyes).
  15. <QR>

I'm for more drawn out, yet less infuriating, fights.

1a) Unbuffed, High damage vs. No Defense = 50% hit rate
1b) Unbuffed, Low damage vs. No Defense = 66% hit rate

2a) Buffed, High Damage vs. No Defense = 80% hit rate
2b) Buffed, Low damage vs. No Defense = 90% hit rate

3a) Unbuffed, High Damage vs. Defense = 20% hit rate
3b) Unbuffed, Low Damage vs. Defense = 30% hit rate

4a) Buffed, High Damage vs. Defense = 50% hit rate
4b) Buffed, low Damage vs. Defense = 75% hit rate
  16. [ QUOTE ]
Wow, that explains why almost all of the population is running PvE content, and the PvP zones are almost empty most of the time.

    Wait...

(Tip: the importance of PvP in a game designed from the ground-up to be based on PvP is not the same as the importance of PvP in a game designed for PvE. Also, claiming you know the population behaviour for your servers when you aren't a dev and have no access to that information makes your entire message suspect.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Folks have to run PvE content to get their characters up in levels for PvP, so even though I consider myself a PvPer -- I still have to spend 3 hours leveling for 1 hour of PvP. I don't see that as a reasonable excuse for it, either.

Tip: Unless you have those same numbers, your arguments are just as equally unfounded as any other's.
  17. What blows my mind is that Co* is a game about Superheroes and Supervillains pitted against each other, and there seems to be some contention that it should be only Player superheroes vs. Non-Player villains and vice versa.
  18. Why don't you go play Halo and stay out of the Co* PvP forums?

    "Moral Combat"

I think that Cryptic and Co* has made that moral decision many times, and with the use of the word 'Defeat' as a replacement for 'Kill' has set them apart from many other games. If I were to say anything in defense of Cryptic, they have made the efforts to prevent that kind of imagery in their games.

However, I feel that when it comes to the current situation about computer games it should apply the same to television, music, books.. any media. Any type of medium or expression should be set for any community with social strictures and taboos have an outlet, yet there should be a lesson beyond that: These are games, books, ideas, that should understood with an amount of perspective. At the end of that perspective, a lesson must be learned that these are not acceptable behaviours outside of their own medium. A responsible parent should be able to go to the lengths as to take an interest in their own child's life, be able to be firm and flat out say 'no', destroy the video games, keep them from watching violent movies, monitor the ratings of media that is being exposed to their children and form that decision for themselves. Outright banning and burning for the sake of society removes the rights of folks who can use the outlet for it's original intended purpose (being an outlet) and can return to healthy behaviour afterwards. Games that are rated 'Mature' and clearly state on the packaging as to what nature of the material makes the medium's exposure of that rating is a tool for parents that is clearly disregarded in many many cases.

I've had this discussion with one of my fellow employees at work who was upset about his kid playing GTA on the playstation in his own house. I flat out told him, if you see him playing the game, take out the CD and break it. He can yell all he wants about how much money he spent on it, you tell him why you broke it, why it bothers you, and give him some perspective on why that stuff is 'bad.'

It all boils down to showing an active interest in your own kid's life. Kids are behaving this way because they aren't getting enough attention.. schools are overcrowded, lacking in true discipline, and growing more impersonal. Kids are being moved from location to location without lasting relationships, kids are forming cliques and polarizing their alienation against one another.

The media isn't helping much but the cancer isn't the games, it's the parents lack of attention. It is being said over and over by all the kids and all that has been happening is blamestorming by the parents for a failing themselves.

    EDIT:
My parents kept me from watching horror movies when I was little, kept me away from violent video games, monitored what television shows I could watch, and talked with me on many occasions as to why I couldn't. They even kept me away from kids whose parents would let their kids expose themselves to that. Once I was able to demonstrate that perspective the gloves came off slowly and I was able to adapt with that knowledge. I wasn't happy with them then, but I understand now why they did that, and I would go through those measures if I were able to have kids myself. Its not the restrictions, it is the active attention I got... that is the number 1 thing for parenting.
