I'll offer my two cents now that the Valentine's candy is going for 50% off.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    QFT!

Well, I've held off enough; here's my input on the Valentine's Event (or Spring Fling, or whatever its called now..)

    The Snaptooth and cross-faction missions:

Nothing new here. Move along, move along.
I did, however, continue to get some of my alts their Heart of Darkness/Light bages and Partygoer bages. Already got all the togas I care for.
It's a repeat; no changes for us, but I'm sure it's fun for all the new members who have joined in the last year!

    The Wedding Pack:

OK. I admit it. I bought it ....for my wife's account for Valentine's Day!

...and then I saw they shiny baubles that were the tuxedo coats, which I really needed for a couple toons of mine....oh...my precious...must have shiny baubles...must have .... oh what the helll; another $10 gone...
oops, er...one of my sons likes the pack, ergh. Ah well. thats a total of 3 purchases; $30. So much for the simple nice gift just for the wife! The price: NOT priceless. Should've been AT THE MOST $4.99.

    The "Wedding":

OK, nice idea; cool plan for in-house characters for development. Awesome end of ceremony fight. Didn't go. Didn't even want to try to attend. It was like trying to get an invitation to Tom Cruise's wedding....

    The "Wedding Gifts" Mishes":

OMG. What the...???. This sucked. I expected a badge at the least (and I am not a badge-hound!!). Below average mish; extremely poor idea to not include some sort of benefit for completing this.

    Summary:

Overall, OK. It's an event. Something different to do. A new twist with a wedding, however, the 'wedding gift' mish was poor, and the cost of the wedding pack was WAY too much ($4.99 should've been the price at the most). THe wedding itself? Phhffft. I was lucky enough to not be a jerk, smashing through the usher lines ahead of courteous fellow heroes patiently waiting their turn; I knew it was going to turn into a free-for-all, and this was WAY too exclusive to do for this type of community (a lot of long time die hard vets in this game got left out; that was like leaving out Stan Lee in the FF movie Wedding; bad form).

    Scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 highest), it rated a 4.

Next year, devs, let's do better on this, please.

  2. Gotta admit, this is one of the best threads I've ever read.

Fantastic stories and experiences for all who posted thusfar!

As a father, my two boys learned how to read by going through my old comics stash and asking me to read X-Men, Spider-Man, or Avengers for them; after awhile, they were reading to me. These moments, to me, were the most priceless times I ever had with them. It was quality time, and it was OUR time.

Today, they are avid CoH players, with my oldest achieving his first level 50 last night (since we are mostly Guardianites, we celebrated with cookies, of course!). My youngest is a level away from his 50, and for our "family of heroes" household, these are grounds for celebration. Not too many families I know celebrate together when their kids hit the highest level in the game! The most important of this is that we still celebrate together as a family.

As I have deduced since day 1 of my CoH expereince, I knew this game would be what I hoped it to be - a good community not only for me, but for my family.

With that, kudos to Sister Flame and family! And here's to our community; most importantly, for those players and parents that make this game the best MMO ever!

    *cookies thrown into thread*

(and LH, all is forgiven that you don’t always get my humor, and felt the need to lock me up—So here’s to you!)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Owwww! You were Shatner shiv'd!! OMG! The humanity ! The humanity!
  4. The whole family is involved and playing all weekend! Starting at 3pm EST, all 4 of us shall be working our heroes and villains until we drop.
Focus is some of our higher level toons on Guardian with the Challengers SG; also our villains on the same server with Crimewave VG.

Sunday, I'm hoping to spend some time to get a few of my level 17-18 heroes and villains in and through level 20 so as to get the cape mishes and extra costume slots for them.

I know the servers will be busy, and I know Freedom and Virtue will be jammed, thus my prime server, Guardian, and the other lower volume servers will be my focus (not expecting a server lockout, but Ex did mention the possibility in a recent thread).

    So, checklist:

    Case of Soda- check
    Snacks- check
    No weekend work- check
    Computer optimized- check

    READY!

  5. IMPRESSIVE! I've been beating my brains out trying to figure out a system to maximize the badges, and have some form of standard flow so I could use for all my other heroes/villains and WOOT!, here it is!

My damaged neurons and bruised noggin thank you!
  6. Looking for the holder of the name "Chrononaut". Am willing to work a trade/compensate to get the name. I'm currently using "Chrononauts" as a filler name.

    <QR>

My knowledge of base raiding is somewhere between zero and none. That said, I completely understand the problem raised by the OP. Or at least I think I do.

It may not be a workable solution in the case of taking out the main power generator, but the following idea occurred to me.

Does the game engine support, or can it be modified to support, the concept of damage to an object without complete destruction? Meaning as the generator becomes more and more damaged, it's output gets lower and lower. At 100% damage it's output is zero, but it does not vanish in a flash of light.

Instead, it remains as a "corpse" that can somehow be repaired.

OK, there's the seed of the idea. Can we pick it up and run with it?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Intriguing idea! In such a way as this, in post-raid, could it also be an idea to re-purchase ("repair") the device using X amount of prestige/infamy etc, or use salvage to gradually repair (1/4 power, 1/2 power, 3/4 power, full power) in stages using the empowerment equipment? This way, you don't need power to do this, and you can save enough points/salvage prior to the raid to at least get your base running again in post-raid. Just a thought for this think tank.
  8. OMG! Wait. . . .advanced notice . . . nothing to do that weekend . . .no scouts, no sports, no appointments, no relatives . . . no work . . . .

Potential for getting my main to level 50???

    WOOT!

Lock the doors! Put the phone on silence! Restock the minifridge! Load up on Hot Pockets and Pepsi!

DOUBLE XP WEEKEND HERE I COME!!! WAHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Have presents been changed for an automatic naughty if a zone is too low?

I ran around and got a dozen+ in AP this morning early, and got all naughties...

    [/ QUOTE ]
I am getting this too, on my lowbie brute I have opened about 50 presents so far and all were naughty. I am about to give up on this. Also about 1/4 baby new year missions are not completeable. As soon as you exit the cave with him he just runs off into the forrest never to be seen or heard from again. This seriously needs to be check. I know my team reseted like twice and it still kept happening.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Regarding the overly large amount of 'naughty" presents, the same thing happened last night to me; I had my level 32 running around KR, Atlas, Steel and Talos (tried Dark Astoria, no joy for any presents there) and of the 30 presents I opened, 27 of them were naughty. I've tried being a good superhero, but dang! At least give me a 50/50 shot at being nice! I was quickly irritated at this and am about to give up on present hunting altogether.

I tried to present-hunt in the more level appropriate spots (bricks, Crey's etc), but I couldn't find any presents, or if I did find one, they were quickly attacked by "klingons" that followed me around and jumped on my presents before I could open them.

I think the villain that cross circuited the servers to give us an extra prestige bonus for our SGs earlier last week also messed with the winter event present "naught/nice" ratio.

    A plot? A conspiracy? Hmmmm....

If I'm just a victim of circumstance, so be it. It is, after all, a game. It's just that for the first time ever in this game, I was disappointed about a game/event feature.

Regardless, Happy Holidays all! Enjoy the snow in Pocket D; it only opens for a limited time every year!

  14. Devs,
ABOVE AND BEYOND THE BEST ISSUE I HAVE SEEN YET!

My family and I (all avid CoX players) went into excited fits of happiness and joy! We danced! We cheered! We immediately jumped online to learn more!

This exceeds i10, which I thought was simply the best issue ever!

The weapons customization was a complete shock! I did not expect this and am completely giddy with jubilant jumping in getting the Frankengun et al to a proper QoL level! EXTREME KUDOS AND A HUGE BEAR HUG TO ALL DEVS FOR THIS!

The whole "flashback" idea is obviously one of the most requested forum items and being a comic book fanatic, I am truly excited to do my own time-traveling as a hero/villain (especially to go back and get those badges and finish story arcs I had no clue about when I started!)! The storyline premise also screams of "awesome plot" content!

For the new powerset, I am not a big swords fan for heroes. I am, however excited about the combinations! This will bring a whole new level of excitement to character play! SMART MOVE ON THE COMBOS!

I would REALLY hope that in the next few issues that Swords become a staple in the villain powersets; it is long overdue.

    Willpower = kudos; nicely done!

Very rare invention salvage = next logical step in inventions; glad to see this perpetuating.

    In summary,

    THANK YOU DEVS!!

    THANK YOU NC SOFT!!!!

    THANK YOU CRYPTIC!!!

THIS GAME IS THE MOST AWESOME GAME IN THE UNIVERSE!!!!!
  15. Once again, you have been listening in on my prayers! Thank you for more chances to obliterate more Rikti! My alts will no longer have Sentry badge envy!
  16. Came up with a few you might want to go through:

    Cardinal Emissaries
    Tories
    The Loyalists
    Tory Militia
    The Derision
    The Dispisal Authority
    Reproachers

    Just some ideas.
  17. ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!!!

Thank you for i10 and thank for the incredible Invasion process! The interaction was heartwarming! The teaming was fast, thrown together, and best of all FUN!!!!

Oh to play a game that is exciting, fun, and adrenaline-pumping! No MMO other than the fantastic team of devs for CoH/V could do such a thing (and still keep you guessing with random invasions)!!!

I am ecstatic over the news that random invasion sessions may occur! Waiting for someone to finish the Lady Crey TF would be too long in the wait.

Thank you devs! Take a bow!

After 21 pages of this thread, has anyone gone back to reread the part that says that this will only be applied to 'inactive' accounts (where 'inactive' means 'not paid for for 90 days')?
If someone has a level 1 character with a name that they're camping, they have to keep -paying- for the right to use that name.
    What's the problem?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thank you for bringing the point back home!

One particular reason is simply this: our fighting men and women stationed overseas. I know several of them (at least) that LOVE City of Heroes, and have characters ranging the full level spectrum. If someone is called away/deployed, more than likely, they are going to shut down their account for the duration of their duty overseas, since they will not have access to play in such places as Iraq or Afghanistan

    [/ QUOTE ]

Then they should be treated like anyone other deadbeat who doesn't pay for his or her account. (And I should point out the blinders you have on - there is much more to the military than ground pounders who go to Iraq or Afghanistan.)

    [ QUOTE ]
(plus that vaunted poverty level pay scale the military has doesn't help one's budget while deployed).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Contrary to what you hear on the news - the military pay scale is in most areas more than adequate to live on if you watch your budget. You aren't going to get rich, but you are far from starving. (I know many sailors who do live on just their military pay.)

    [ QUOTE ]
So imagine their surprise when they return home, as many have after 14 months of extended duty to find their favorite characters names taken from them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Imagine their surprise when they don't pay for their house or car for 14 months - and they return home and find them gone.

And give me any crap about 'disrespecting our service men and women'. I've been there and done that, I've earned my T-shirt. And I did it back when being in the service wasn't 'cool'.

under lvl 6 is kinda lame how about:

Inactive account 90 days toons under 10
Inactive account 1 year toons under 30
Inactive account 2+ years nothing is safe

also any account inactive for a year that wasn't active for more than 3 months sould also not have safe names.

    [/ QUOTE ]

THIS is what I was responding to. And as I said in my end reply to that:

as well as stating I agree with Ex and Posi on this:

I understand the need to free up names , but I'm with Ex and company on this one.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You're classifying a contact without prosecuting the data! My response was simply that there are those who will have (and I do know a few that did) shut down their accounts temporarily simply to help make ends meet, with the knowledge, thus far, that their accounts and names were safe.

The new NC Soft Character Name Policy is good! If an active account of level 5 or less has been inactive for that long, then, yes, I believe the names should be given up. My response was against fellow MMO SethChupra's "chop all level 30 and below inactive names after a year" suggestion; it seemed a bit harsh, and the first thing that came to mind were those fellow sailors, airmen and soldiers that I know that DID secure their accounts to save money.

Prosecuting a contact on the console requires attention to detail; lets not get into name-calling and snap shots. Shift the pumps to 1 slow/1 slow and get another leg on that bearing, before you call Firing Point Procedures.

Last check, blinders were stowed for sea.

    <qr>

Ex is correct. We datamined how many names would get freed up by doing the purge at every level. After level 5, the amount of names freed up drops noticably on every server. There are a LOT of names being "camped" by inactive accounts on characters under level 5.

Sure, it doesn't take a lot of effort to get past level 5. But in the case of name campers, it looks like they didn't even put in that amount of effort on those characters. They simply made a level 1 character with the name and called it a day, or played a tad and got a level or 2.

We admit, the previous name purge was too high a level. I had a lot of people tell me that they wanted to come back to the game, but were turned off when they found that their character's name had been taken during the last name purge. We wanted the most amount of names freed up, with the least amount of impact on players who might want to return to the City of games.

    [/ QUOTE ]

A++ to Positron and Devs on this.

I'm sure they could live with the level 5 and belows being gone, but anything above that I think should be available.

The other reason is some folks don't powerlevel their characters, and take their time developing their characters. Of those, and I'm sure many forum readers are in the "been ther/lived that" situation, where there just aren't enough dollars in one's bank account to maintain the "entertainment" category that CoH/V is, and instead, cut it off until they can get their finances in order. My impression is that many die-hard CoH/V players are in this category, living pay check to pay check (or are students, sraping by on the ever-cheap Ramen), and I'm sure they'd be more pleased with Ex and company's plan than your suggestion.

I know you are thinking of the players, and I applaud that. There are other folks out there in our community, however, that we have to keep in mind, and our military men and women, are amongst them.

Again, I think Ex has hit the nail on the head. Cudos, Ex!
  22. COMPLETELY
    AND
    INCREDIBLY
    AWSOME!!!!!!!

This is the reason I play City of Heroes!!! The alerts fire up in chat, impending attacks on a zone, you scramble to the zone with your SG or a rapidly created team, you get off the tram and you see ship after alien ship dropping bombs, Ritki battling heroes on the streets, dozens to hundreds of heroes, tightly grouped, pouring every power they have to fight; healers going full bore, tankers slamming Heavy Armor into the air, flying blasters chasing the drop ships . . . .this is an event that will be talked of for years to come.
The cameraderie and teaming was incredible! The lag was amazing, but still the fights were epic. Fighting under the Atlas statue with over a hundred heroes with Ritki swarming all over the dais was a screenshot epoch unto itself.

Devs, NC Soft, LH and all - DAMN GOOD JOB!!! I have waited for something of this caliber for decades, and you have delivered. Cudos, medals and "atta boys" all around. Thank You!

If I haven't made it plain enough, CoH/V is the BEST!!!
