Villain Group Name
"Knights Templar" rings a poetic bell for me too, though obviously I wouldn't use that exact title.
Maybe you don't understand the whole concept of... concept. You need to actually decide what this group was. Keepers of the sacred flame, defenders of truth, or whatever.
But nonetheless, you asked so here's my suggestion.
The Disavowed.
Go. Run. Kill Skulls.
Came up with a few you might want to go through:
Cardinal Emissaries
Tories
The Loyalists
Tory Militia
The Derision
The Dispisal Authority
Reproachers
Just some ideas.

If I knew what the group was, I would HAVE a name. I need help with the whole package.
Well you must have started somewhere. Somewhere besides, "I want to have a group"... I mean what inspired you?
How about a Natural group of government agents who protected the secrets of the country until several of their own were sacrificed for some politician's career. So they realized that the government they were working for was killing people, devaluing their soldiers and keeping dark secrets and turned on said government, using their training against them.
Or perhaps it was a chantry of mages who were protecting the city when they were corrupted by the presence of an evil spellbook that promised great power and finally caused a schism where many of them turned to the "dark side". That could give you something to do on the hero side as well if you like.
Sheesh, it's a comic book, how hard can it be?
I have an idea rattling around in my head that you can go ahead and use.
The House of the Iron Hand.
A former martial arts dojo, now just a den of thugs and thieves.
My Stories
Look at that. A full-grown woman pulling off pigtails. Her crazy is off the charts.

Plus, I knid of think that "Knights Templar" has been used in some fashion. The "Twilight Sword" or "Twilight Steel"
My advice is to start brainstorming several ideas for concepts, names, origins, and causes. Then springboard off of what inspires you.
From what you said, you've on a good start and I can imagine your looking for some knightly theme. The causes your could adopt well you could either represent a broad ideology (like "balance", or "cosmic harmony", or "forbidden arcane knowledge").
However, I would go for something more specific: maybe the group worshipped an ancient deity who's twisting its divine will. Or the group could be what's left of an ancient (fictional) civilization and they seek to restore their glory.

Yeah, I'm starting to lean toward an ancient order of knights. I think they may exist to guard an ancient temple containing an unspeakable evil. Unfortunately, the evil has begun to corrupt the knights... Their base would be the temple.
Now, what's a good name for the order, temple, or thing contained in the temple?
The Knights of Cthulhu
I spoke with the group co-founder and we brainstormed. He liked the idea of a group of knights who protect an ancient tainted place. Initially, I suggested that place be an Aztec or Mayan temple (tainted by human sacrifice or whatever), but he thought of Ireland and Scotland.
What if there was a king or warlord with a keep (and fanatically loyal bodyguards) up in the cliffs or moors. When he died, he cursed the land, and the descendants of his guards must serve eternally.
The supergroup uniform could be a KILT! YAY!
So now I need to think of a good Gaelic-sounding group name.
Help me think of a name for my villain group. I have an idea that this group was once a honorable (but neutral) group devoted to some cause. Maybe guardians of a particular place or martial technique. They have since forgotten the ideals they once stood for.
Something like:
Custodians of the Twilit Palace (though I'm not crazy about the "of the" construction)
