Reason Why Destructable Items May not Work
Wow, this would completely suck.
One solution (not a great one) you'd need to get on the super-hero channel (all globals, broadcast, etc.) and put out a request for someone who has the Fusion Generator plans open to allow you to join their SG, go to their base and craft one with your own salvage.
hmmm... interesting....
I had a suggestion way back when about reworking the item destruction to be more fair, and more interractive. Went something like...
Change the Flames/RoboFab into a 0-power 0-control device like the Auto Doc.
Have them sell Repair temp powers, crafted with base salvage. (Naturally, you could craft these in an allie's base if you had to.)
There are tiers of repair powers, improving how large an item they can repair (eg, you need the Tier 2 to repair a Turbine Generator, but the Tier 1 is good enough to repair the basic) and how much percent of the item's life they restore.
The powers are interruptable, long cast time, but CAN be used during a raid. So you can bring a generator back online, letting the batteries really act as temporary bridges.
There. No worries. Nothing is lost, nothing costs Prestige, it just takes some finite amount of salvage to repair everything. PLUS it has strategy during a raid.

Hey.........can I borrow your worktable???.........they broke my toilet!

doesn't work. if you leave the other SG with the plans your inventory disappears. this is why you can't just get an auto-doc on a whim.

Also the worktables would have to be ZERO POWER and ZERO CONTROL. I forgot you have to power your control device too.

While the practice base raids I've participated in have been fun, I don't at all like the idea of permanently losing expensive equipment.
The OP's scenario seems completely possible and likely, and that's disturbing.
Goldbrick 50 inv/ss tank
Other 50s: Power Beam, Rocky Mantle, STORMIE Agent, Matchless, Major Will, Knightmayor, Femstone, Space Maureen, Crimebuster Ako, Dr. Twilight, Doc Champion, American Gold Eagle
And this is why there just shouldn't be permanent damage
I would hope with the last attempt at IoP and scheduled raids, the entire system is up for change when it does happen. I would like to see testing on the order of what we did with Inventions happen before anything like this gets to live again. I think we have the environment with the current NCNC dev team that there would be lots of dialog back and forth til everything was polished and above all FUN for the players. Admittedly, it may be a few more issues before supergroups, bases, and raids get a major feature upgrade, but I think we have a good shot of getting it right this time.

I chalk this up as another reason why Vigil Station shall not be converted to PVP. I don't particularly like the idea of losing a 7.5 million prestige item....
Here's a consideration as well...you have to buy it again after yo ucreate it don't you? So how long will it take you to earn that 7.5 mil? Or do you get it back when its destroyed (I doubt that actually)

[/ QUOTE ]Can't remember. I think it is refunded (prestige only) as soon as its destroyed and you lose only the salvage, but I could be wrong. That is certainly true if you just delete it in the editor.

if you lose salvage...elite guns can cause a huge dent in your finances and salvage stores...the special salvage requirements can be huge, and components can be expensive to buy, So i would agree with the suggestions of making the worktables and their attachments cost no power and no control.

Do you ever stop thinking?
Why not make a spare fusion generator and keep it in inventory? You're not charged until the item's placed.
Ditto any item which would be extremely difficult-to-impossible to replace if your base was crippled. Sure, it might be a salvage drain, but with some pre-planning, still doable.

[/ QUOTE ]A prudent workaround, though is alot of wasted salvage if never used. I tear through salvage building guns. Over 40 at this point,....not stopping til we get to 100 :P

heh, warface you do go overboard...and the above quote is a good one...I personally have a fusion gen because I made one, was gonna place it, and then the sg leader beat me to it.

Here's a thought. The devs in the past have felt the need to balance risk with reward. Not sure if this is still a mantra but perhaps a different way to look at it is:
if the IoP trial is suitably difficult, the risk is losing the IoP after you've invested the effort of getting enough SG mates together at once and running the trial. I think losing 2 or 3 hours (not to mention organization time) of 8 or 10 or 20 people's time is plenty of risk if someone can waltz in and steal it easily.

[/ QUOTE ]YES I DO! Though I will probably do just what he suggested if IoP goes live as is. Matter of fact I may have a few members do it with various items.

Someone ran a test on this.
Make the Fusion generator on a different server, and pay for a serevr transfer. Its stays in your inventory.
But yes your initial scenario is a nightmare one for sure, and without a 100% chance for repair accessibile will be a significant reason that some will avoid ever getting into base raids.
There is just too much risk of a LOT of hard work going down the drain even with a 5-10% chance of losing something key.

MY SG and I have worked hard for our items and prestige, I wouldnt want too loose anything from a raid, that is if we even do a raid.

Add to the list of Base improvements:
Add "Priority" flags to base items to allow them to get power and control when the base is running low.
Or
Base Item: Fusebox
Has 2 settings: Construction and Raid. In the construction setting, Workshop items will receive power and control before Medical and Defensive items if the base is running low. In Raid setting, Medical and Defensive will recieve power and control before Workshop items.
This would allow you to create the basic generator/control to power the high priority items to create the higher tier ones.

To the Base Engineers, your thoughts?
It hit me last night driving home. The Perfect Storm.
Thats all it takes to make your life a living hell after creating a great raidable base.
Example:
You have a raidable base. You have an IoP (some day).
No worries you are johnny on the spot and set up to ensure your team is ready to fight.
To mitigate any damage to your base during this scheduled raid you have 6 workbenches, and 3 flames of some dead guy and 3 robotic fabricators.
These will help raise your ability to rebuild any losses to functional items from the battle.
You also have the AES and FUSION Generator.
You also have 40 Elite Guns, medical reclimators, etc etc. (About 16,000 worth of power requirements........but its okay you have more than enough with the FUSION GEN.
The A-Team comes a calling today, and the attack begins.
They zone in the doorway, right next to your impervious FUSION Gen (happened to me a couple of weeks ago).
They are smart and stay in turtle mode.
This group is only about PvPing and destroying other bases. Gaining your IoP is just icing on the cake.
With their group of buffed out blasters and controllers and fuled by Purples, Yellows and Red Inspirations, they tear through the FUSION Gens massive hitpoints.
In 15 min, with them fighting you off, they manage to destroy it before you kill the last of them.
They laugh and leave you and your precious IoP.
No worries you say. I have 6 repair bots.
Raid over. The luck hits you.......in a bad way and your FUSION GEN is dead.
Thats okay Ill build a new one.
WAIT..................you cant, there is no power to your worktables.
Oh, Ill buy a generator.
The Basic Gen........?
You going to delete your 40 Elite Guns, AES, teleporters to get the power you need to run your worktables now?
------------------------------------------------------------
Only one chance, and this is untested. If I delete everything (bought functional items) but keep my crafted items (AES, GUNS, teleporters, Robo surgery, etc.) Would I have enough power with the basic battery and 2x battery attachments to build and run a worktable?
Or do I have to delete created items? Which is hours of salvage gathering and creation wasted.
These questions await us when IoP comes back to test. I just ask the Base Engineers to look into this when the time comes.
