I love the holographic projector idea.
Only origin I'm having trouble with is Natural, then again you could just say your from an alternate reality where everyone is born with Magical abilities.
Hmmm... -
Back in March of 2005 my RL friend was getting into Ultima Online.
I'd never even heard about MMO's at that point, as I was strictly a console gamer.
Only PC game I'd played at that point was Maniac Mansion!
When he told me you had to pay a monthly subscription to play I couldn't believe it. So I held off for a month.
He wouldn't shut up about how cool it was to play with people from all over the world.
So one night in April of 2005 I went to Wal-Mart with the goal of buying UO and getting him off my back. I was looking at the various titles, trying to find UO. Then I saw the City of Heroes box and my love of superhero mythos made me pick it up.
I casually glanced at it and then put it back, resuming the search for UO.
Upon finding it I 1st noticed the price was nearly $30 more than COH then looking at the game I realized I'd be a fool to spend that much cash on a fantasy game. I hate fantasy type games.
So I picked COH back up and started reading the details, determined to get an MMO while I was there. But I still wasn't sold.
Wanna know what did it for me?
1 picture was worth more than the whole box. When I opened the teaser cover I saw a picture of a Hero flying high above the city a building ledge just beside him with the street far below.
SOLD!
I haven't regretted it since.
Got him hooked as well. -
Yeah, for /SR it's really a non issue.
With Quickness and Swift and SS you'll be good to go.

If micro-trans is the only way to keep this game going then I'll be on board 100%. IF things are that dire.
However, if this is to be the deal going forward I think the company should be upfront about it. Instead of just slowly releasing them and hoping we don't notice.
The lack of response from OCR concerning this is starting to really get me worried. We're transitioning from a period of great interaction between the community and Mods/Devs to a more traditional annoucements only style of relationship. I still can't figure out why and that in turn leads to rampant speculation.
If the future of COX is to be micro-transaction based. Tell us now so we're prepared going forward. Rather than continue to hemorrhage existing subscribers out of fear of communication/ company commitment.
This is business 101 guys. -
Only way I can see this making it in game is as alternate animations for existing sets.
They won't make a set that precludes all but one Origin.
Looks really cool though so I wouldn't mind alternate animations for sets like /Rad or /Kin that use a more Magic inspired artwork. -
Well Champion is one of the lower populated servers. Though you shouldn't have trouble finding folks on any of them.
When looking at the server list it goes in order with
The last server you used at top
Then highest pop will be at bottom going up.
Freedom is #1 population wise
Virtue is #2 and the unofficial RP server
#3 jumps from Infinity and Justice and a few others.
As far as having someone to 'Bug' there is a thing called The Mentor Project. I'm not that familiar with it but a quick search should give you the links.
Otherwise, I'm on Infinity and Liberty atm, but I have a full server on Virtue as well. If you roll up on one of those shoot me a /Tell. We can run some missions together and help get you back in the swing of things.
I love answering questions and don't mind taking it slow.
Also, if you do upgrade your account send me your @Global address and I'll mail you a million or so to help with the learning curve! -
Quote:Years, literal years ago I suggested creating a knockdown enhancement (This was before IO's even) that when slotted turned KB into KD.Castle said that they spent a month trying to create KB reduction for powers via a special IO or power. They couldn't get it to work, it was buggy and unreliable.
Thus allowing those that don't want KB to slot accordingly.
Around level 38 my Eng/Eng got so fed up with the KB hate that he just stopped teaming all together. Specing into Stealth+SS and becoming a boss killer.
It wasn't even that I wasn't in control. I'd learned long ago how to be
cautious when targetting thru the tank. I used my KB to help the team, knocking mobs into the melee guys or corners or whatnot.
It didn't matter how smart I played the toon though, Most of the time I wasn't even given a chance. I'd join a team, hike through 3 zones to join them, only to be instantly kicked as soon as the leader saw I was Energy.
1st few times it happend I'd send a /tell and try to explain I was a responsible KB user.... Never mattered though. Ignorance is as ignorance does and this was just after Ragdoll was released, so the KB hate was in full bloom back then.
I didn't know they'd even made attempts at creating something like this. It's a shame that they couldn't get it to work but at least they tried!!
I recently re-rolled the Eng/Eng as a Praetorian to go Redside. I'm so in love with KB in Praetoria that I'm actually slotting to increase it! -
Because my Energy/Energy thrives at close range.
Before I learned about blapping I tried to play him as strictly ranged, thinking I'd die instantly in melee.
Wow, looking back now, that was a rough learning period.
This was back before I even knew what Stamina was however, and when he hit a brick wall at level 24 I came here looking for help.
Hence why my reg date is a month later than I started playing.
I read SnipeFu's guide and thankfully had a respec lying around. I picked up Stamina and it did help, but something still wasn't right.
Then at 26 I picked up Bonesmasher, just to have something for when they did get in my face. I'd planned on using it only on the rare occasion.
Then I hit my 1st LT with it!
Wowsers.
To say my entire mindset for Blasters changed at that precise moment would be an understatement.
Why do I Blap?
Because it's to fun and effective not to. -
Heroes suffered for a littany of reasons. Chief among them:
1. Tim Kring originally planned to have each Volume stand on its own. Bringing in new people just discovering their powers. Volume ones characters would've made brief cameo's here and there but for the most part every season would have featured new supers coming together to stop a world threat.
However, Hollywood being the souless beast that it is took one look at the ratings halfway through the 1st season and slammed the brakes on his original vision. Forcing him to retain the 'Stars' from the 1st season rather than risk an all new cast. This in-turn forced Kring and crew to redo the entire series to focus on Patrelli and Claire etc etc.
2. Writers Strike.
Season 2 was just gearing up when the strike happened. Which left the producers scrambling like rats. The volume was cut drastically short. Ending at the mid-season break and not returning for over a year.
The weakend story combined with the extended break meant a good chunk of viewers didn't return for the next volume.
3. Budget. With Kring's original vision, the budget would have allowed for better fight scenes in each subsequent season. However since he was forced to retain the 'Stars' from season 1 he was also forced to pay them increasingly higher salaries, thus cutting into the SFX budget and making them resort to flashes of light behind a door. This also meant that with the show costing more and more with each season, when ratings dropped below a certain point the advertisers fled like rats. Killing the show.
Heroes wasn't supposed to be upbeat. It was designed to be a gritty look at what would happen in the 'real' world if all the sudden people started getting powers. If Kring's original vision had been allowed to flourish we would've been presented with unique storylines and new personalities each year. Keeping the show fresh and allowing for larger SFX. This in turn would have kept the ratings up and well...
I'm not bitter.
I'm still highly ticked off that it's Oct. and I have no Heroes on Monday.
That said, NOF had me hooked from the 1st words Chiklis uttered. Something about the show just clicks. Incredibles meets Heroes indeed.
I'm psyched to have a show I can speculate about again, as this was one of the big draws for me with Heroes 1st few volumes. Trying to figure out what power would be next, who the bad guy in shadows was (Sylar) etc etc... Looking forward to Tuesdays now! -
Add the inspiration nurse to all hospitals please.
Thanks. -
Also known as Bill Gates syndrome.
Gotta be weird when a Boeing 747 costs you $2.50. -
On my Blasters I pick up a Karma knockback protection IO asap. Makes a world of difference and usually aren't that expensive.
I generally wait until level 32 to start slotting regular IO's. Then start in on sets shortly after, picking up a few here and there as I go. -

Was used in a Heroes promo way back when. Still makes me think of heroics. -

Quote:Hmmmm...Why would there be a crate of super flower on the plane? It was a sight seeing trip that the Dad arranged. Counting on the pilot to crash land in the water and expose everyone without killing them seems pretty haphazard. And that's assuming the company has a weather controller to whip up the bad weather that caused the crash to occur in the first place.
As for why the whole area isn't teaming with superpowered people, perhaps the flower isn't located in a highly populated area. We are talking about the Amazon after all. How fast was that plane? How far could it have traveled in a half hour? I wouldn't be surprised if they'd been 100+ miles out of Belem at the time the plane crashed.
*Goes back to square one on theory* -
-
Quote:Only problem with that is the locals. Why aren't all the local people super powered? They've been around the plant this whole time, breathing in the pollen, swimming and fishing etc etc.I really do think it's going to turn out to be the flower that Stephanie is studying in her research. It was probably pollen from the flower that was in the water that gave them their powers.
While I think the plant might have something to do with it, I see it more like Superadine. The company makes a few alterations to the plant and this is the result.
Then again, maybe that's where all the supers come from. A 'Well of the Furies' if you will. Though with the location being Brazil I doubt they'd want to isolate it like that.
I'm more of the opinion that this was a test set up by the company in order to do human research, if they'd died it would've been chalked up to a plane crash in a far away land and forgotten. If they'd mutated the company could've kept it quiet easier with them being isolated in the rain forrest.
Instead the company allows them to return to normal life, while being monitored. To continue the experiment under real world conditions.
Hmmm....
Think I've found my new show! I do love to speculate. -
Only problem with that is the actual plane trip they took that crashed wasn't part of the company trip.
It was a small tourist excursion the father was forcing them to take to get them out of the hotel room. Granted the company could have replaced the pilot and altered the course....
I had to rewatch it as I missed that it was her boss at the end. -
Yeah, my Brute would love to be able to hurl a random minion at his boss instead of chunks of floor but alas...
-
This is very insightful.
I think I skipped Mind over body in the mad dash for attacks then picked indomitable instead by mistake.
Boxing as a replacement for Jab, hadn't thought of that but sounds like a great deal to me. Since I'll be picking up the fighting pool anyways.
Fly is a must have for concept reasons. Hurl and Footstomp not working while in air won't be an issue for me. I don't even hover blast, preferring to always have my feet on terra firma during battle. Good to note though.
So I'll want Hasten as well to stack Rage. (Makes mental note to add Speed pool)
I've got a SS/SR Brute that I shelved at 26 on Redside when I decided to re-roll him for GR. I monitor my damage bonus so I can see the lovely red crash of Rage. I wasn't aware that stacking prevented this. -
I'm a Blaster at heart. Always have been. Most of my toons above level 30 are Blasters or MM's.
I've got a few Regen scrappers at high levels.
My problem is, I've never played a defense or resist based set. I'm used to being squishy.
I rolled up a SS/Will Brute, Mr. Valiant, to take Blueside. He's the most iconic looking Hero I've created to date and I'm having a blast.
He blew threw Praetoria like it was wet tissue paper.
However, now that I'm facing Protean I'm starting to struggle.
It was then that I started looking at my build and various builds on here and I just feel lost.
What I'm wondering is; What powers should I take/avoid. When should I have them and how best to slot.
I'm at work so I can't access Mids but the build is level 22 and currently has;
High Pain Tolerance
Fast Healing
Indomitable Will
Rise to the Challenge
Quick Recovery
Jab
Punch
Haymaker
Knockout Blow
Air Superiority
Fly
Swift
Health
Now that I have QR I thought about Vetspecing Health out and getting Mind over Body, not sure why I skipped it really.
Main questions are; What toggles are must haves?
Do I need to take Weave/Tough
Do I need Stamina as well as QR?
What should I focus on slotting in the toggles, SO wise?
Enlighten me O wise ones in the art of SMASH! -
Now that I can get behind. We're being sent 'Undercover' to gather intel on Cole and his plans.
Such a simple answer, no wonder it escaped me. -
My whole thing is, how does it fit in with the storyline of Praetoria?
I can understand Cole using the Powers Division for his own gain. Even then he's pretty heavy-handed in dealing with Supers.
Not to mention the fact that he loathes Primals and is in fact:
SPOILERS
Planning a full scale invasion of Primal Earth.
So why would he allow throngs of Primals to run rampant in his clean, lawful Utopia?
Storywise.... He wouldn't of course. The Praetors would be out in force and it would be a full scale war.
So, even though I know the playerbase wants this to happen. Even though I want it to happen. I'd prefer if there was a storyline explaining it, other than well it's content. -
Not to mention the fact that this reactivation weekend is more for the players who haven't seen GR.
They want to entice people into paying by getting them hooked on the new content for free.
Why would they want everyone to make a mad dash to 20 and leave the zone before they even knew who Cole was?
This is actually the 1st time I haven't wanted DXP to accompany a reactivation weekend. -
While I'll agree that the CHVC change was indeed a kneejerk fear reaction to DC, I can see the flawed logic behind it. At least in the eyes of marketing.
However, if that was the case, the new 'we don't care about the community anymore' attitude isn't as easy to understand.
Have they just decided to put us on the backburner while gearing up for the next big project?
Have they thrown in the towel but don't want to scare us away?
Have they...? Have they...?
And that right there is the 300lb gorilla in the room. Rampant speculation concerning the game we all care about when in the past we would have had some response from OCR concerning the negativity and reassuring the community that the future is still bright for COX.
