  1. Yummy cake!
But it's not a party without some music.
    Happy Birthday!!!!
  2. I miss CuppaIncarnate.
Makes even more sense now that we are actually Incarnates.
  3. Makes me wonder if those wings retract or not. Otherwise simply walking could be a chore.

Holy smokes on that armor though!!
  4. Here's the scoop Onewhobinds

It's very rare. I mean unpredictable rare. I flew/swimmed past various barriers for hours one night hoping for a glance. I still make a point of running close to them just in case.
  5. The standard answer is we just can't as sadly the only skeleton avail. ingame is bipedal.

From what I recall, it would be such a huge undertaking to create and animate a 4 legged skeleton that they just won't bother unless the payoff is equally as large.

While I still hold out hope we'll eventually get a 4 legged model in game I seriously doubt if they ever cracked that nut the only thing they'd use it for would be a single GM. I'd expect them to populate an entire zone with them.

(Hint hint give me Dinosaurs to fight pretty please...)
  6. The following are personal opinions and should in no way be construed as 'facts'.

Kinetic Melee - This set had a lot of promise for me yet I just couldn't get into it with Scrappers. Something seemed to be lacking in the 1-22 game and I didn't feel like dedicating 10+ more levels just to get it up to par with my other scrappers. I've heard it's much better for Stalkers than any other AT.
Concept wise I found it leant itself to a Kung-Fu master/ Wind Elemental idea fairly easily while other more basic concepts could work if you ignore the Rip Roar sounds and visuals.

Dual Pistols - This was a big letdown for me personally. I'd rolled up an old west themed toon when I heard about this set as a reserve. Finally got around to making him only to have all the animations have me spazzing out which was concept breaking. So I rolled a new concept with more of a Matrix type background. I figured if I could get a concept that matched the animations I'd be good to go. Sadly the actual powers themselves left me wanting more OOoompf so I shelved him. I spend 1000 times more playtime 1-30 than 30-50 so I can't get invested in a toon that takes that long to fully mature. If everyone you ask for advice instantly shouts IO's...
Not the powerset for me then.

Demons - I've really enjoyed this set so far (only at level 17) The constant roaring was a complaint at first but they either toned it way down, or it just doesn't bother me much, cause I never noticed. (I do tend to not travel with my pets and only summon in missions) Still the demons do a good job both in melee and range so. I consider this the middle of the road set for MM's.

Electric Control - My feelings towards this set matched yours when I read up on it. Meh...
Then I actually rolled one. Right now I can say that my Electric/Kinetic controller is currently my favorite toon to play. Part of that is concept but a good chunk of it is how powerful you feel even at low levels. While on paper the sleeps don't look all that impressive you have to keep in mind when you get access to them. Sleeping entire mobs at level 14 proves to be very fun and engaging. I've found that Electric control doesn't play like most control sets and that's actually a good thing. Little variety and all.

As an aside: Keep in mind that most every powerset in the game got passed over with the alternate animation brush. So now all those ol familiar sets you've played can feel totally new with nothing more than a new coat of paint and changing around some animations! Fire can become radiation. Energy can become wind. Dark Melee can become bloody brawling etc etc. I turned my electric control into bursts of solar energy!
  7. This is Mid's builder, still being updated

As far as what to do. You'll start in Praetoria by default when you make a Praetorian. Then you'll have the choice of going with the Resistance or the loyalists. Don't worry, you can change sides whenever.

Enjoy the scenery and take your time as the rides over at level 20 and you'll be asked to leave the land and return to primal Earth at that point.

Heres a great guide Zombie Man put together as well.
    Plot of the four tracks

(How sad is it that the search feature on this site returned nothing for "plot of the four" yet google had 6 at the top of the page?)

Considering how much customization is available to me I almost feel guilty for not exploring more But I can't be the only one, can I?

Question: What was the very 1st toon you created? I'm betting that it's one of those three.

I play all AT's except Tanks. However, I'll never enjoy any AT as much as I do Blasters. I think this is because I learned the game with a Blaster. My 1st and oldest toon is a Blaster. Made for a rough learning curve but was very rewarding afterwards. Sadly, it proved to be limiting in my future enjoyment of melee AT's. With Blasters I have to think on my feet and use tactics and skill to survive. I have to know when to attack and when to hold back. I have to use LoS and KB to leverage the battle. In short I have to be active, very active on Blasters. Well almost, keeping an 8 man invincible team alive on my Empath around level 14 proved to be very satisfying.

When I try to play a scrapper... It gets boring really really quickly. To the point of me drifting to sleep in missions sometimes. The repetitive click click click recycle of attacks without fear of my life keeping me alert means I just can't get that into any AT with defense. I need to be kept on my toes at all times. I need to feel that at any moment the tide could turn and sweep me under if I lose focus. I just don't get that rush of adrenaline from any AT other than Blasters.

Because that's how I learned the game.
So how did you learn the game? Was it on a support toon? If so, there's your answer.
  9. I'm with you Sam. When I first heard about the turnstile for Trials I mistakenly thought it would be an auto teaming tool for the whole game. Along the lines of if I'm leading a team of 4 and need some damage I can check looking for Blaster/ Scrapper. Then if I log in my Blaster and click join any I'd be auto'd into that group.

The team would already have a leader but with this setup the leader wouldn't have to hold up the remaining team while searching for more. Just select the option and go back to missions and eventually one'll pop in.

My biggest issue with teaming is as stated above. The main reason I've evolved into a soloer over the years has been the increasing decrease in avail warm bodies. Back 3 years ago I couldn't log in without being blasted with no less than 20 blind invites, even to the point of being sent /tells when I had my flag as not looking.
These days though, I'll log in and set my flag to any, send a few broadcast messages and a few global inquiries and then go about soloing. After 2 hours I realize I haven't had a single bite. Few more Global inquires and broadcasts and I give up.

Leading a team for me is NOT an option. Been there done that. Back in the day I wouldn't hesitate forming my own team. Then I realized it was more hassle than reward and made me feel like I was still on the clock.

I'm a leader at work. I get paid to make sure everyone is up to speed. I get paid to organize people and projects. I get paid to be the one in charge. When I play I just wanna 'blend in' and kick some digital baddies. I don't want to have to decide what we're doing and when. I don't want to have to stop my enjoyment after every single mission just to look for replacements. I just want to be absorbed into the game and let my brain have a break.
That's why I don't form my own. It's a personal choice for sure and as such I try not to whine about it.

That said, I fail to understand why this suggestion should provoke anything other than a yes or Meh. It's not like it would chage anything for those not having troubles. As you'd still be teaming with your tight nit group anyways.
  10. Slax can't leave...

    Without coming back.

(We hopes, always sad to see vet's retire)
  11. Sure your not related to SteelClaw? Thought he was the only one that found enjoyment from punishing himself!

    Seriously though, Congrats!
  12. I've been all over the spectrum with this issue for months now. My passion for the subject has been all but exhausted with only the added insult of locking basic costumes keeping it fueled this long. However, I have a new fear creeping in as I come back after 2 days to catch up.

I notice a significant lack of this issue still being debated. Now on the surface this appears to be a good sign. That the detractors have 'sucked it up' and moved on. Yet that's what scares me.
When the issue is swept under the rug and stops being debated here it won't be because the problem is solved it'll be because everyone else finally gave up/ lost the passion.

This isn't a good thing. It signals that a vocal minority of vets have 'lost their voice' in a manner of speaking. You can only scream so long without anyone listening before you go hoarse. This issue will vanish from the forefront, with only the non-forum goers coming to inquire why it's like this. This will signal to the Dev's that things are cool now and they will move on to the next shiny.

I don't want that to happen. I'd prefer if Matt came down from on high and announced in certain terms what the system will evolve into. Either quelch the fears and put them to rest or own them and hope for the best. Letting it fester will only serve to further alienate those feeling wronged.
(This isn't to say they are justified, simply that they should be acknowledged.)

Sadly, this is a bigger issue than most of us want to acknowledge. This is a seachange within the game and has the potential to be a
'game-changer' as far as the way we play from 1-50. At no point in the past 7 years has something so altering hit live. I can see a bigger picture, I recall how I felt ED was so horrible yet now I know how foolish I was. So I'm not shortsighted enough to think the Incarnate system can't be a good thing.

I just want to make sure the community doesn't continue down this divisive path of Classic MMO Vs Unique MMO, Solo Vs Teamed, Gated Vs ad naseum.

We all love this game. We all play for various reasons. Up til now everyone was cool with everyone else doing their own thing. So why so serious now? Why hang from the rafters screaming bloody murder because a few posters are vocal about a solo path? Why cry injustice because no solo path has been announced? More importantly, for both sides, why is it so important to slam the other side now? Just because they have a different view. What happened to letting everyone have fun the way they wanted?

Just because we want a Solo option/ non gated basics doesn't mean you have to come in every thread on the subject to call us fools, using tired ol cliches.

Just because they enjoy the Trials doesn't mean we have to come in every thread and rain on their parade because it's not what 'we' want.

Can we just get back to the actual debate and leave the histrionics to the high schoolers?
  13. Yeah...

When this feature hit live I mistakenly figured anyone picking the Help Me tag would naturally be needing help/had questions.

So whenever I'd log in a low level praetorian I'd send a tell or /local and ask them if I could be of any assistance. 8 times out of 10 I was told no thanks, I know my way around. Once I was told off, along the lines of "If I needed your help I woulda asked" (Ummm, derp)

and 1 time out of 10 it was an actual new player that wanted to figure things out for themselves and just didn't know any better when making the choice 1st time out the gate. They did later send a /Tell asking if I could show them how to find the trainer but I digress.

I've never actually seen anyone with the help me tag really wanting help.
Now the ones that pick Helper, most often they are genuinely wanting to help and usually get miffed when nobody asks.

  14. Oh that?! Don't mind that...

I uh... spilled some super growth potion in that area a few weeks ago while fighting a Tsoo Sorceror. I figured it'd never make it all the way through the concrete though...
  15. Lotg was the main reason my scrapper started farming A-merits.

At 1st I was just selling them, to get a larger bankroll so I could start flipping better mechandise but eventually I tired of it and just emailed them to all my alts instead.
  16. Indeed. First time around I fully expected what they said to change based on my actions within the group.

I figured since I was an unknown within Vanguard, it'd be natural to have to be 'cleared' but after saving Lady Gray and everything, I figured the text would change to say "Welcome back $player"

It's a bit annoying to not be recognized after the 80th time walking up to the door...

Wish it had a way to check badge status so it could tell if your a member or not.
  17. Very nice! I love the pose. You get the mold too?

That's one of the reasons I just stopped doing the entry arcs all together. Once radio's came out it became much simpler to just street sweep to 4 then sewer run to 10 before hitting KR for the safeguard. After that I'd look to starting contact missions.

That way I'd avoid the wincott talk and the perez guard talk and the 90 other 'run here to tell them no' things I'd end up slogging through otherwise.

    Needless to say.

    /Signed.
  19. Here ya go!

Wow, I hadn't realized it'd been so long ago, just happened to be the last one in my subs list. The 1st few players I had interested really made it a blast. Sadly, as weeks went by I ended up having 3 arcs up with no comments from the players and no reply to /tells(taunts) so I moved on.

    Was much fun though!
  20. The reason I gave up on creating AE arcs was absolute obscurity.

I'd spend a week or more carefully crafting the missions and interesting custom groups, while testing for solo balance vs teamed. Then I'd spend a week polishing the text, correcting errors and doing test runs.

Then I'd publish and instantly vanish into the void.

A week later, still showing 0 plays.
A month later, still showing 0 plays.
2 months later I had 1 play!! But no stars or comments...

So I just figured the lead in wasn't tempting enough. I'd make another one. Then another one. Eventually though I realized I was never going to get anyone to stumble on mine in amongst the flaxom without pimping it out by advertising here and ingame.

I didn't want to do that. I just wanted to create cool stories that players could scroll down and go hmm, sounds like a job for!

So I stopped creating. Months later I would grow tired of the endless amounts of wasted time searching for decent stories among all the junk.

I did toy around with creating 'one off' adventures for some of my core characters to playout parts of their story.

I also ran an Archnemesis campaign for a bit. I'd take the backstory for your toon and then create their Arch Nem and set up various missions for you. But the time involved combined with the thankless nature of some of the participants soured me on the concept.

Now I just use the AE buildings for quick inspiration refills.
  21. I paid $700 for an off the wal-mart shelf Inspirion that I'm quite pleased with. Nothing fancy but it meant I could save up some for a better graphics card down the line. Ran the Freedom invasion event without much trouble.

    Fastest 1-20

Necro/Dark has been bar none the fastest 1-20 of any AT I've played. I'd venture to say it was my fastest 1-40 but that could just be cause I loved my concept so much.
Just keep in mind they're zombies, mindless ghouls. Treat them as such (meaning I keep them in passive most always and use them as ambushers usually) Order them around constantly and you won't be sorry.
