Haven't played in a couple years, a few questions.

Bored this weekend and I thought I'd get Going Rogue and see if I can entertain myself.

I will probably just be playing casually by myself and most likely experimenting with the new power sets that weren't around before. Other then those I know next to nothing about the starting experience of Going Rogue. Any suggestions? Any tips? Obviously I'd rather experience new content at lower level if that is possible.

Also looking for a new and updating character builder if a good one is out there.

Thanks in advance!

For a character builder there's Mids.

For info there's ParagonWiki.

If you set up Going Rogue as a new account, your first new character must start in the alternate world of Praetoria. Not a problem if you upgraded your old account.

A Praetoria character can be any standard hero or villain AT and when you are done with the content there, at Level 20, you will be given a choice if you want to go to Paragon City as a hero or Rogue Isles as a villain.

Depending how long ago you played, we now have loot, crafting and a consignment house system. Also player created content.

If you do make it to Level 50, there is now extended content for them.

Welcome back.

This is Mid's builder, still being updated

As far as what to do. You'll start in Praetoria by default when you make a Praetorian. Then you'll have the choice of going with the Resistance or the loyalists. Don't worry, you can change sides whenever.

Enjoy the scenery and take your time as the rides over at level 20 and you'll be asked to leave the land and return to primal Earth at that point.

Heres a great guide Zombie Man put together as well.

(How sad is it that the search feature on this site returned nothing for "plot of the four" yet google had 6 at the top of the page?)

Ah thanks. I did play with the architect system previous. I don't know if I recall loot... enhancements and such, and crafting them in bases so I suppose I did.

A friend told me that now basically everyone gets 'Stamina,' no longer making it something we all had to take. But the builder still lists it. So I assume you can grab it as well for extra if needed. How is the one we get automatically? When do we get it?

Thanks!

Inherent Fitness opens up at 2. All four powers. You cannot choose pool power Fitness anymore. Old characters that still had pool power Fitness keep it until they respec, when they're forced into Inherent Fitness. All data and enhancement stuff stays the same between the two.

If you remember the architect then loot, crafting and the consignment house was already there.

I've been surfing around the boards in the last hour trying to get an idea behind the new, Going Rogue power sets. I just want a very brief opinion on how they turned out.

Kinetic Melee looks rather bland to me.
Pistols looks adaptive which is neat.
Demon Summoning looks fun, but I'll have to discern what the demons do.
Electric Control also seems pretty meh.

I could easily be wrong about those, I obviously haven't played any of them. Enlighten me

The following are personal opinions and should in no way be construed as 'facts'.

Kinetic Melee - This set had a lot of promise for me yet I just couldn't get into it with Scrappers. Something seemed to be lacking in the 1-22 game and I didn't feel like dedicating 10+ more levels just to get it up to par with my other scrappers. I've heard it's much better for Stalkers than any other AT.
Concept wise I found it leant itself to a Kung-Fu master/ Wind Elemental idea fairly easily while other more basic concepts could work if you ignore the Rip Roar sounds and visuals.

Dual Pistols - This was a big letdown for me personally. I'd rolled up an old west themed toon when I heard about this set as a reserve. Finally got around to making him only to have all the animations have me spazzing out which was concept breaking. So I rolled a new concept with more of a Matrix type background. I figured if I could get a concept that matched the animations I'd be good to go. Sadly the actual powers themselves left me wanting more OOoompf so I shelved him. I spend 1000 times more playtime 1-30 than 30-50 so I can't get invested in a toon that takes that long to fully mature. If everyone you ask for advice instantly shouts IO's...
Not the powerset for me then.

Demons - I've really enjoyed this set so far (only at level 17) The constant roaring was a complaint at first but they either toned it way down, or it just doesn't bother me much, cause I never noticed. (I do tend to not travel with my pets and only summon in missions) Still the demons do a good job both in melee and range so. I consider this the middle of the road set for MM's.

Electric Control - My feelings towards this set matched yours when I read up on it. Meh...
Then I actually rolled one. Right now I can say that my Electric/Kinetic controller is currently my favorite toon to play. Part of that is concept but a good chunk of it is how powerful you feel even at low levels. While on paper the sleeps don't look all that impressive you have to keep in mind when you get access to them. Sleeping entire mobs at level 14 proves to be very fun and engaging. I've found that Electric control doesn't play like most control sets and that's actually a good thing. Little variety and all.

As an aside: Keep in mind that most every powerset in the game got passed over with the alternate animation brush. So now all those ol familiar sets you've played can feel totally new with nothing more than a new coat of paint and changing around some animations! Fire can become radiation. Energy can become wind. Dark Melee can become bloody brawling etc etc. I turned my electric control into bursts of solar energy!

Kinetic Melee - It "feels" slow to me in the beginning. (Which, given the nascar sound effects...) THe numbers folks say it isn't any more so than other sets, and I do have one in the mid-game, plus it has a few interesting mechanics.

Pistols - Swap Ammo is an interesting mechanic.

Demons - People complain about them making noise all the time. THey do. It's also probably the only MM primary I've heard people say "What do you mean you skipped the attacks? Go back and take them!" They look cool *and* have a good (-res) effect.

Electric Control - is incredible. Maybe some of the descriptions (like the "sleep patch") have you going meh, I don't know, but it's one set I'm having trouble finding anything to skip on. It's a really good control set (IMHO.)

The sleep patch is cool because it pulses often enough to make most enemies stay asleep; at best they seem narcoleptic.

Demons, in addition to having attacks with a useful secondary effect, the demons themselves have a nice little variety of damage types.

Pistols is nice - if you use swap ammo you can help reinforce what your team is doing. Do note, however, that if in a state where a secondary effect doesn't apply (such as ice ammo and the slow effects) any profs for powers of that type won't proc (so for a slow set proc to hit you must have the ice ammo on)

I have not played Demon Summoning or Kinetic Melee.

Dual Pistols is pretty good. I generally don't care for blasters but I've been playing this one steadily. The animations are pretty over the top so you'll probably either love them or hate them.

Electric Control is great. I took that set all the way to 50 in a pretty short time. If you like controllers at all, this set is worth playing.

I have a KM toon up to 22 and enjoy him so far. You'll definitely want Power Siphon, though. The set is pretty powerful with it and a bit weak without.

I also have an Ele Control at 20 and it is very much a blast to play. That sleep patch in particular may not sound great, but it's actually a fantastic power. It's usually my first one into a mob. Put it down in a strategic location, sleep most of the mob. If a second mob is agroed, I usually have it placed so they have to go through to patch to get to us--which puts them to sleep too. If they get attacked and woken up, just wake a second and they'll be back to sleep again. It also recharged rather quickly, so by the time the first patch is gone, I have another ready. You also have a chain knockdown that is fun to use, particularly with the sleep patch, and you have your standard holds and immobs. Plus, most of these powers drain end, which is never a bad thing.

^This. I teamed with IB's Electric Controller a couple of times and it looked like so much fun, I rolled one myself.

Demon Summoning moves pretty fast at low levels - haven't gotten to midgame with her yet.

I have some trouble with the animations for Kinetic Melee and Dual Pistols.
