Looking at my attributes right now, I see

    Dire Wolf with 29.88% s/l/c resists, 12.45% r/m/aoe def
    Lions with 29.76% s/l/c resists, 12.45% r/m/aoe def
    Wolves with 18.53 s/l/c resists, 11.12% r/m/aoe def

Periodically each Lioness will give a buff of 6% def that has about a 30 second duration and something like 45 second downtime. Fortify Pack of course will grant more defense as well.

With Sonic, the resists become about 70% for s/l/c, then get another 10% from Sovereign Right and that's pretty darn sturdy.

So, just to be clear, I'm not saying "Beasts don't have defense" I'm just saying it's not sufficient to say they are just "defense based" though.

Also, Demons isn't the only primary with worthy attacks, Beast Mastery does too, the secondary effects are pretty nice and provide -fly (almost necessary against certain mobs for these meleeing pets), -def, slow. I definitely advise 2 of the attacks for Beasts, including the aoe. The downside with Sonic is that, while it may not be "active" it is quite endurance intensive. I'm going to guess (I don't have hands-on experience with this combo, though I do with both powersets) spamming attacks and keeping the 2 main toggles going is a challenge.
Thanks for posting the numbers so I didn't have to.

Beasts are a very sturdy, albeit low damage, set. Sonic can help with the damage, especially against single targets, with -res, as well as nearly hardcapping the pets with the res proc. It is a pretty good pairing, and one that I've taken up to 45 so far. The argument can be made to go with Thermal over Sonic. Thermal will give significantly less resistance, but it has heals and some very good debuffs. I just didn't want to set my animals on fire.

It is thus comparable to brooms, pipes, pool cues, spades, railroad signs an so on. It could be used for any powerset the model will physically fit.
But it'd look best with Titan Weapons, due to the wide sweeps. You can see how it would act by looking at the Demonic Ax, which is what I currently use in place of a scythe.

Oh, and after playing through Darksiders 2 twice, it is hard for me to believe that it can't be a cool weapon.

  4. Thugs/time is an option, yes. Not necessarily the best one. But any primary paired with /Time or /Dark will be fairly beastly. The tops primaries are normally considered to be Demons, Bots, and Thugs.
  5. Well... yes, that will happen, inevitably. Pre-eclipse Warshades will be rather... fragile. Mostly you need to rely on controls rather than defenses.
  6. No, it probably wouldn't, and I accept that. But I still want the scythe.

The existing old chest straps for females is a joke and the bracers are old too and dont have a tight option like those new awesome bracers.
Please Dink, when you have some extra time for the female models...
Also, the gunslinger high boots are awesome but can we get no lace/no spur option for it, please? Same shape but a basic one.
Female models always get ports of the male costume parts, but it never works in reverse.

Guys must get something in return!

Therefore guys should get the Carnival of Light pieces. Mostly the head pieces, masks, and the sash, though I'm sure some want boots.
  8. I think I like the idea of having a scythe enough that, really, I do not care if I'm hitting them with the top of the stick.

The bigger thing is that if they could make the scythe go pointy end first in Arc of Destruction I'd love them forever.
  9. The Alpha and Interface successfully effect pets in all cases. It is Hybrid that can be a little weird.
  10. Do you know why most other support sets don't rely completely on power pools?

Because their own powers are better.

Complaining that if the powers could be used solo it would mess up your build is ridiculous, because it would only change your build for the better.
  11. Didn't Dink say something along the lines of: "Touching the base models would cause a cascading failure of everything in the game."?

Paraphrasing there, but I distinctly remember that in the art thread.

With a half competent player nothing is incapable of soloing 5 hero tips. Literally nothing.

I tried playing Empathy once. I really did. But then I thought "Why?". And why would you? Why would you want to play a powerset that loses almost all of it's powers when solo? Even looking at the numbers, I couldn't justify it. I didn't find it fun. I didn't even find it strong. So I deleted it.

the key in the gameplay of mastermind is to be a boss, to be active only and only if your mini team profit from it. that means buffs/debuffs.
That is the worst advice you could ever give to someone having trouble with masterminds. If you can stand around doing nothing, the difficulty needs to go up. A lot.
  14. No, you won't solo like an SS/Fire brute. Or anything else for that matter, because your primary only has three powers all of a sudden. The only things that might have a worse time soloing than an empathy defended are:

    Petless pain dom/thermal/force field mastermind

Oh wait, that's pretty much it.
  15. An entire build of level 50 SO's is like 5mil, tops.

No, because you can increase the difficulty and make it hit more things. And its useful solo. Even one enemy is more useful solo than nothing. And no matter how many enemies you have, six of an Empath's powers cannot be used solo. This is bad.

And yes, it does help you, indirectly. Unlike all the other examples you gave. Parasitic Aura? Helps you. Directly. And its good enough to turn up the difficulty.

As for using the spots for other things, you can still do that if you have powers that you can actually use solo. It just means that, oh, hey, I can actually use Empathy while solo. Instead of replacing almost an entire powerset with power pool picks.
  17. ... Yes, some powers have restrictions to make them balanced. But getting passed the restrictions doesn't help or reward the Empath, does it? Unlike every other example you mentioned. It rewards the people who just so happened to team with the Empath. The Empath is the least rewarded because to itself it cannot give anything, even on a team. Solo you can only use three powers. That is a problem.

    Trying to imagine...

1 to 2 MMs per Rikti Pylon, drop them all at the same time.

Then lets see, gets on ship, buffs and debuffs in abundance, mows lawn to the middle.

Actually might be worth working all 3 paths together.

Get into middle and "Poof" where did everything go?
If you're drinking tea, you're doing it wrong.
  19. First and foremost you need to build in enough recharge to perma DP. After that getting appropriate defenses to 32.5% so they can be capped with a luck. It is ludicrously expensive but OP as hell when actually done.

Everything should be added to the market eventually. It doesn't hurt those who have it in any way, shape, or form. Unless they have a sensitive ego, in which case it could be good for them. All it does is give the people who don't have it a chance to get it. It makes people happy and no one needs to get sad.

They were free when you got them, now you need reward tokens. How have they been devalued, exactly?

  23. Nature will not help Ninjas survive better than Time Manipulation or FF.

With your Ninja/Time did you also pick up Mace Mastery and the 5% def proc? The 15% AoE def proc helps immensely as well. My main is a Ninja/Time/Mace and he's nigh invulnerable. He can last longer than most tanks while also outdamaging them and keeping his pets alive through taunts and heals, as well as Power Boosted Farsight.

Nature is a good set, but other than a good amount of -tohit holds no real synergy with Ninjas. It gives a bit of everything and works best with things that start out rather tough, like Demons and Beasts. Due to the -tohit it also holds some synergy with Necro. But the heals are not enough to keep Ninjas alive, and the absorb is on a four minute timer.
  24. I made a Necro/Nature as well. Stacking tohit debuffs is always nice, and as Psylenz said Necro is very good at staying together. In fact, as far as staying at range or running into melee is concerned, Necro is nearly perfect. The Grave Knights shoot off a few blasts then run in to hack stuff. The Zombies waste no time running in to puke on stuff. The Lich never runs in because it has a perfect cycle of ranged moves that it can use indefinitely. The Lich also doesn't need healing, due to aforementioned not running in. So everything that does need healing is nicely packed in one spot for it. With Spore Cloud and the zombies you should be able to floor tohit. Wild Growth helps plug up the very noticeable weakness to smashing, lethal, and fire. Overgrowth seems like it'll be great too, with all the damage buffs.
