Thugs/time is an option, yes. Not necessarily the best one. But any primary paired with /Time or /Dark will be fairly beastly. The tops primaries are normally considered to be Demons, Bots, and Thugs.
Its better if you just tried it yourself.
Experience is the best advice.
The OP power sets are Robots, Thugs, Demons and Ninja for melee , Traps, Time and Dark.
Robot Traps is OP only because you can defense cap without need of a debuff on the mobs either through darkest night or time juncture and far sight. But Dark and Time are no slouches.
Your should consider Tankermind build where you provoke the mobs onto you relying on your defenses and have your pets hit them from behind or the side. Again Robots are nice because they are out of melee range so your pets can survive a AV PBAOE hits.

Thank you for the replies so far. While researching I was thinking demons/dark. I figured i would tap into the meta-Mind that is the Coh foums. If anyone can give me there thoughts on demons/dark id be appreciative. As always thank you all kindly.

I currently have one MM at 50. Most of the rest are languishing at lower levels (some specifically for marketing reasons).
That one is a Demons/Dark. It actually is a nice, viable concept (even if the whip personal attacks are somewhat endurance heavy). You have good resistance, a frequent healing, and so-so combat control. With a small slathering of defense over the top via IO sets, this combination is really, REALLY evil.

I'm not an in game trial kind of person, I do know for a while mm's were having trouble with incarnate content, but I think that has been mostly been fixed. Might be something you want to double check on though, hate to get in to end game only to find out your choice has major scaling issues.
Having not played a mm before how to put this...sometimes it doesn't really feel like you're doing the damage. My thugs/time, bots/traps, necro/dark etc. can certainly take on x8 spawns and win and often earlier than my other chars. but you might not get the same visceral thrill of Big red numbers that your brute provided. Just a caveat.
Now advice:
Demons/thugs/bots as mentioned earlier for primary. If you're not powerleveling, have never played a mm before or are not very patient I wouldn't do bots. They're great, but they bloom late.
Traps/time/dark synergize with most everything and are all very powerful in their own rights. Traps probably has the most throw away powers and is...at the risk of making others angry, the least team friendly. It can be done, traps is great, it can be hard to pace to a team.
For demons in particular you might also want to consider sonic/pain/therm, demons have a fair bit of resist and you can chase that to get survivability. Although any of the above sets would do fine.
Dark will work. You will be very safe with the debuffs, the Ember Demon is pretty good with the heals so you can keep your heal for yourself.
You need to keep in mind that the demons damage are DoT so it is better to stack on single target and you will also need to slot end reduction especially in the Prince, his ice powers really burn through his end.
I do agree that therm and pain are better (slightly).

i think traps is prolly one of the best mm sets, although time, dark, and nature also have strong points as well
for primaries i think anything is really an option, mercs are prolly the worst atm though due to high amount of lethal dmg and slow rech debuffs
Well I've been reading and playing with Mids. I think I'm going to go thugs/dark.
There are a lot of good solid mastermind combos. You will NOT be disappointed with thugs/dark; it has a lot of tools.

Ok I have been play Dix Dastardly my thugs/dark for two days now. I must say he has been fun. I can see where the thugs and dark mesh really well. I will attempt a Mids build and post it next week (3rd child due tomorrow). Considering how long I've been gone it should be marked all over with red ink like I do with my students essays. . If anyone has a link to an up to date guide I'd be most thankful. Once again thank you all for your help
Hello, everyone I hope this finds you all doing well. As the title states I'm back from a 2/12 year break and can use some help. I want to play a MM but I have no clue what to pick. My play style has always leaned towards scrappers and brutes. I understand I'll have to do buffs and such, but damage dealing is my main focus. I still have my farmers so influence isn't a big concern. This toon will be for PvE only. I want this toon to be effective for endgame content as well.
