Quote:Somehow I don't think squeezing an extra few ticks of damage is going to blow my socks off. The base damage for even Fire Control is pretty paltry compared to blasters and scrappers. Of course, I could go all proc happy with my controls, but at the expense of the actual controls themselves. Or I could go recruit a scrapper or blaster, and let them get their hands dirty with their considerably more effective damage. Meanwhile I manage the room. Delegation of labor, baby!Maybe soloing a controller is "slow" for you because you're NOT SLOTTING YOUR ATTACK FOR DAMAGE /=O I mean seriously, with no damage enhancements you can't even kill a -30 minion (yes, MINUS 30 levels) in one shot. Of course soloing is going to be slow against an even-con mob!
Even on my slotted our Fire/Rad, who can lock down and melt even-con mobs just by standing in their presence, I'd rather join a PuG (even a BAD PuG) and take on tougher mobs and savor the mayhem you can only get with 8 reckless strangers. -
Dunno, but this seems like something that could be answered pretty quickly in the character creation screen...

Even before GR, not every tank was a TANK, in the traditional, aggro soak meat shield sense of the word.
I've been on teams with one tank who managed aggro like a Pied Piper, and teams with three tanks that couldn't pull aggro to save my life. Literally. That was actually in the same evening. No one in this game can appreciate a good tank like a Fire/Fire blaster. -
Here's how I usually roll:
ST Hold
First Slot - Acc
Second Slot - Recharge (helps for locking down bosses)
Third Slot - Hold
Fourth Slot - Recharge
Fifth Slot - Hold
Sixth Slot - Acc (by now you're probably taking on higher level enemies, so the extra acc helps)
Group Hold
First Slot - Acc
Second Slot - Recharge
Third Slot - Recharge
Fourth Slot - Recharge
Fifth Slot - Hold
Sixth Slot - Acc
I never take the single target Immob, and I almost never slot for Damage (Hot Feet would be an obvious exception.)
Soloing a troller feels ever so dull and painfully slow. I only ever do it to pass the time while waiting for a team, or to get through key missions. Its not unusual for me to get a troller to 50 with the cape mission languishing in my mission tray. Soloing a troller is like driving on a spare tire. Fine when you have to, but I wouldnt not recommend it all the time.
There's a reason controllers are referred to as "support." Blasters and scrappers are my pets. They get knee-deep in the muck, I stay big picture. -
Quote:/signedI'm not going to suggest anything in particular, but rather something that could be a long-term project.
Go back and look through the earliest powersets. Notice how, overall, there isn't much diversity in the animations. Most blast attacks, for example, share the same handful of animations. And compared to the newer sets, those animations are very simplistic and kinda dull. Instead of just making new animations for powers X, Y, and Z, why not go through and gradually give every powerset a couple of alternate animations? Not necessarily like Super Strength, where most of the powers have alternates, but stuff like making sure that each Blaster Nova-style attack has a unique and thematically-appropriate animation. Little bits here and there to help give the oldest powersets a tiny shred of individuality.
While the damage dealers have been getting some cool new animations, the support-types seem stuck in the same "hand-wavy" animations. Eye beams, spell casting, a wrist gadget, Kamehamaha waves, anything would be a refreshing switch up from doing a flurry of Jazz hands. -

Wow, you're like some kind of super-powered dorm matron! Do you chaperon on task forces too?

Quote:Cut-up makes sense, although I've never liked that "Spider-man" was hyphenated. I would not be surprised that there was some weird story behind that, like there was some other obscure comic book character called "Spider Man" and Spiderman just looked too hard to read.Ah, so that would let out my The Knight-Watchman and Nuclear-Warhead.
By that token, Spider-Man is right out as well.
I will not compromise on Cut-Up though. The hyphen was intentional, as he's my "bouncing around joking Ditko hero" and the spelling is a Spidey homage.
Okay, so maybe not weird, but a story none-the-less.
I may just use the free server transfer to do a ghetto rename on him, if i can think of something that still fits his concept. He's a clockwork toy soldier little guy, so dyslexia seems like an odd affliction for him. -
Quote:Only when grammatically correct. I have Two-Fisted Sister, but I would never do Fire-Dude. Or Fire Dude' or anything like that. Also, no substituting lower case "L"s for upper case I's.How do you feel about hyphens? Those have been my saving grace many times.
I do like weird mash-ups and puns, if it serves concept. Psylence, Chairman Meow, stuff like that. I could suffer the odd hyphen, like Blastin' Dude, if I really had to.
Quote:EDIT: Oh, and just because it's funny, you misspelled misspelling.I can't bring myself to reboot him.

Most of my rules are about character creation:
1. Never use numbers or deliberate mispellings to get a name (ie. Frosty Lad 2 or Fir3 Girl or Robotronnn) I cringe every time I see someone else do it.
2. Lay off certain costume parts. Large robot gloves, the Ampule belt, the spiked pauldrons. They start to feel like design crutches after a while.
3. Roll defenders... I think about it, but then i sober up.
4. Take teleport- what a hassle that power is! Especially with any kind of lag.
5. Get to at least level 2 before jumping on a sewer team. Not having rest in the sewers is a major pain.
6. Always log off in a day job location. If I have to quit quickly because of some RL emergency, I'll always log on later to move the character. I even log into old characters I never play to move them around once in a while. -
another vote for a "Looking for members" flag. Maybe even fine tune it to "Looking for Support" or "Looking for Damage"
My personal Grail:
A GUI for keybinds. A visual map of your keyboard, highlighting functions mapped to each key, that would also allow you to edit and change emotes and flavor text. -
Thermal is an extremely useful Jack-of-all-Trades set, but it is VERY busy.
Illusion/Storm can be VERY fun. It's sorta like driving on ice. You're not getting much control. Fight it, and you will hate it. Surrender to the chaos, and it can be fun on a bun.
Like Local said, with customization, there really isn't anything in the troller secondaries that doesn't look like magic.
Considering your... domestic needs, what sort of support are you looking to provide? -
It also takes A LOT of recharge, both in IW and global, to get IW perma. the other downside is that you can either set Hasten on Autocast or IW on Autocast (I'd recommend the latter.) So that means you have to remember to cast the other manually. Or bind it to a frequently used key, like movemnet, which can get annoying for its own reasons
I've got a good bit of global recharge bonuses, and even with Hasten and AM running, I have a few seconds of downtime in IW. And wouldn't you know it- baddies still manage to nail me right in the brief moment of vulnerability. -

Quote:Glad I'm not the only one with a Rad addiction...I think there is a strong synergy with Rad as a secondary. I rolled up a Elec/Rad...
Earth/Rad Guide,
Illusion/Rad Guide -
I'm going to try and out an Elec/Cold Dom. I love Rad... and I probably use Rad too much, so I want to try out something new, and it seems like EC and CD might mesh pretty well as a buff/debuff monster.
So the Gremlins come in pairs? Do they do -end as well? -
Schweet. I'm alreayd name-squating my kin scrapper. Now I need a slot and a concpet for my electric troller. That conductive Aura makes me want to pair it with Rad, but I gotta break my Rad addiction. Maybe cold dom... that could make for a nice sapper build.

Whatever is piping in through the baby monitor :-/
We have a lullaby version of some Cure songs. The cover of Fascination Street is strangely even more morose than the original.
Man, I gotta change that CD... -
Yeah, there's like 30 parties a night at CC, so if one is slow, you just bounce to the next. I totally forgot about the raffle until i pulled the ticket out of my pocket before bed. I probably won
When I got to the party, I figured everyone would go by their handle, so that's what I put on my name tag. Then i walk around seeing people with "Stan" and "Bill' on their tags. How the heck am I supposed to recognize anyone with those weird names?! -
Some other highlights from the Going Rouge booth:
*Cool lenticular button giveaway (it switches between a Statesman Star and an Arachnos Spider. And yes, most people thought it was Captain America/Spider-man)
*Costume Code - unlock a fun but a little underdeveloped Ghoul costume power. Not the Ghoul from the Mastermind set but a whole new model. Looks like he has a unique run animation, but he doesn't animate attacks.
*Played with the Going Rogue interface. I'm not a fan of the yellow, but then again, I'm not a fan of yellow.
*the CoX party at the Hard Rock. Seemed pretty low key, but i got their late. It was nice to see how Ultra Mode looks on a comp that doesn't suck (ie. mine) and it looked like there was some new, tech-based luminescent costume pieces :-D -
The fire epic set is pretty good for a leveling build, though. Consume provides some much needed end relief until you can get some end recovery from set bonuses.
I get to use Fallout just about every time I run my Frad, but then again, I am not a fan of Things Running Smoothly. My motto is "if you ain't almost dying, you ain't living." Teams should always be pushed to their limit to make the game as exciting as possible. -
Bonfire is one of those powers like Repel or Hurricane- when its used right, its amazing. When its used wrong, it can really screw things up nicely.
On outdoor maps and big open areas, its nearly useless, except maybe as a panic button. On indoor maps, with the right wall shapes to focus and contain the KB, it can be extremely effective.
Also, when you slot it for KB, it actually increase in Magnitude. That means even those heavy Freakshow tanks will get tossed around by it! -
Your build does seem to have a bit of a split personality. Recall friend for teams, Air Sup for solo damage.
My personal 2 cents
-skip Fire Blast. between Fireball and your normal duties, you should be plenty busy.
-no Cinders? Between Cinders and a pulse of Choking Cloud, you'll have damn near everything locked down.
-I'm no fan of TP foe. Seems very rare that it works without aggro.
I'd ditch:
Air Sup (or ditch the teleport set and become a flier)
TP Foe
Fire Blast
and add
Cinders
Hasten
EMP (its a great panic button)
problem with FireRad is that there's too many great powers. Smoke can be very useful. Bonfire can totally save the day (or ruin it.) Fallout is great fun. In fact, personally, I'd take Fallout over Mutation. There's a dozen ways to rez a person, but only one to turn their corpse into a nuke! -

I dusted off my 44 WP/WM tank, and I was pretty amazed how well her performed. He's built to a total meat shield, so i didn't put any emphasis on attacks unless I had nothing left to take/slot for defense. He was actually mopping up mobs pretty soundly! And yeah, crowd control is the shiz.
