Quite so
and a shout out to Zenlon for the unexpected and unsolicited Facepalm emote code from out of the blue. Thank you. That's why, at the end of the day, this game beats any other in my opionion. Our community.
(I know I said my last post was going to be my last, but I had to point out what a great community we do have in general, even when we don't always agree)
-
Quote:With resources available? Not quite sure where I said anyone was wrong for disliking it...I said I understand why some folks dislike Social Media in general. I absolutely understand what they don't like about it, and admitted that it wasn't an ideal situation further up the thread.
Disliking it or not though, we're doing what we can with the resources we have available to us. Is it ideal? Nope.
FWIW, we're discussing different ways we can promote it that don't involve a mad dash. That *will not* be the case for this week though as it basically requires me scheduling someone's entire day dedicated to this project as opposed to a few minutes each hour.
It's a bit of code. With your resources, you could have it unlock on every player globally for free, have it attached to a badge, or purchaseable with Astral or Emp merits, or Paragon Points (It's Kirby Dots... I'd pay real money for it). What resources are you talking about exactly?? That's like saying you have to take a vanity pet or costume piece off the market because you ran out of them... (Sorry, no more fireman's hat or glasses/goggles options, we used up all the glass on the windows in our new zone!)
Again, I have no problem with the current promotion. What boggles me is that you currently have no plans to just let us buy it at some point, or attach it to the Paragon Rewards system. The 'exclusivity' should be because they got it for free, and well before it becomes available to everyone.
I'd be paitent and pay out. Ironically enough, I'm betting most of us 'old timers' who grew up with the Kirby Dots are in positions similar to mine. It kind of feels like you'd rather not take our money in exchange for the chance to screw us out of something...
Anyway, I've had my say, and I'm trying to remain constructive. This is my last post on the matter. I'm leaving that last sentence in the above paragraph with the snark simply to drive the point home, just in case you don't realize how these kinds of promotions come off sometimes. Especially when you make it a point to flaunt to those that are having the problem with it that there's no plan to make it available except in a kinda-probably-maybe-but-most-likely-not kind of way with a vague hand-waving at some future that may never happen.
There's a lot of great stuff like the Prestige Power Slide that may never see the light of day again, either because you guys forgot about it, or nobody that doesn't have it is new, and doesn't know to ask. Still sitting in the game taking up code. Why not let folks that want it, have it? -
Quote:This is in addition to the other things you just blew off (like my access to the internet, non internet phone, etc......uhm, yes, you have an equal chance, technically. Twitter is free to sign up for, and is available to anyone with any kind of Internet connection at all. Because you choose not to be on Twitter, you give up your chance to obtain it. Your choice. If you choose to sign up for Twitter just to try and get this code, then more power to you; if you don't choose to, then don't complain that you don't have an "equal chance."

Quote:So we're jerks because we're willing to pay for something other people want to compete for so they can get it for FREE?I pray the community team takes absolutely none of your complaints into consideration and views this not as our "leaders" but as human beings. It's FREE stuff you wouldn't ever have a chance at obtaining otherwise for the time being - just because someone else beats you to the punch doesn't mean the punch bowl should be refilled immediately for 50,000 other people and yourself. You had the same opportunity to walk over and grab some.
And again, read my first post. I don't have the same opportunity. Many people don't.

Just sayin'.
I'm not mad because you guys have a chance at getting something for free. I'm a little butthurt because it's the ONLY way to get it, like the Facepalm I've had no chance at getting (remember, work a double on Friday, even if I bothered to sign up for Facebook, and I wouldn't do that just for an emote). -
Quote:KIRBY DOTS!?!?!?! And you had to put it in a way I will not ever be able to get. I was really looking forward to the possiblity of that getting made too...Personally, I love this.
What's to complain about FREE stuff that we all have an equal chance of obtaining?
If you don't care about Kirby Dots and never have before - then don't visit the twitter page. If it's something you desire, cast a tent and be ready.
I do not have an equal chance of obtaining it. I'm not on Facebook, I'm not on Twitter, nor do I have any desire to be. My cellphone is an older model, and used for making phone calls. It has no clue what an internets is. I'm old and have responsibilities, making my computer time limited. I don't have time to waste running twitter on a browser and checking it every few seconds while trying to get other things done (including what limited time I have to play the game) in the already limited time I have getting to sit in front of it.
With all the above factors in play, tell me how I have an equal chance of obtaining it compared to folks on summer break who are fully integrated (and inundated) in the 'social media' world, and who have phones that can play their favorite music for them while they browse the web, check youtube, and talk to their friends all at the same time?
I'd love the facepalm emote, and I'll be VERY disppointed if this is the only way to get the Kirby Dots. No pressure thus far has been able to sway me to use such services (friends and otherwise) and a few pixels won't either. However, it offends me to some regard that I can't bypass playing some twitter game to get it (or even just being lucky- I ain't that lucky generally) and just buy it at the market. While I'm old, slow, time-restrained, and a bit of luddite, I do have money. Let me spend it.
Free givaway for those who want to take advantage of 'social media'? Fine.
Keeping me from ever getting it because I have no desire or use for 'social media' or I'm not faster than the hundreds of twitch kiddies I have to compete with to get a code in before them? Not so cool.
Frankly, my rant aside, I'm not mad about them using the outlets at hand to promote the game... The more this game's promoted the better! I just want the Kirby Dots, but I still won't sign up for anything just to get them, not that I'd have much of a chance to get them even if I did, and that makes me sad... -
I will freely admit I haven't read every post in the thread, so this may have already been mentioned.
There's a fix for this.
Let the Freedom Phalanx (except Penny- She doesn't have a handle on her own powers all the way) give players access to some hero side Patron Pools that are similar to the villain side ones.
I'd really like to see this. Been a long time coming if you ask me. -
Off the top of my head, I can't remember which icons represent what, but the small dots are where spawns occur, be they regular or patrols, the rest are rescue/ally spots, floor items, wall items, boss spawn spots, etc.
Also, when you're looking at a specific mapset instead of 'random' (located under the Map Length dropdown) there'll be a layout of it on the right hand side. right above that map on the top right hand side is a ? in a blue box. (They're all over the place in the MA UI, and they're great!) Just click on it, and it'll give you a legend explaining what each of the icons on the maps are.
Hope this helps! -
I have all the ones available since I "officially joined" (aka- became aware they existed, on) 'til they stopped printing them. I paid the extra price for the comic for the lore, and the support I wished to give the game itself.
I miss the old comics and wouldn't mind the 'option' of their return as an add-on to the subscription. It gives the opportunity for a player to become more immersed in the canon of the lore itself, which is a currently underplayed aspect of the game. Believe me. I get that. -
I refuse to finish a particular radio mission Defeat _BOSS NAME_ and guards on the character I have it on.
It's pure awesome, it's like every mob I face is a completely different group! Oh wait, it is!
There's no real exploit in having it, it's just neat to have a Darwin's grab bag in every mob -
Gratz on Portal Jockey!
My son actually has a character named Portal Jockey, and his goal is to get the badge before he hits 50.
That reminds me... I need to get back to helping him do that in the near future... -
I've seen it. Good series.
My wife is the anime nut, so when she finds a good series, she'll make me sit and watch it with her. I've yet to be disappointed by one of her picks. -
Quote:I have to dispute this a bit.Who is stronger than Superman? Seems like he'll enforce his view of "good" and his view of which restrictions in the pursuit of good must be followed by all, this is might makes right on both counts and all justice systems/security forces work on that idea "Monopoly of violence" and all that the only difference here is Supes will give his rivals unlimited opportunity to kill and kill again and again (Argument as old as time)
imo this is a lot like that other story whose name I forgot
Edit: Kingdom Come is what I was thinking of
Superman isn't trying to force his morality in this show. He's trying to provide an example, then enforce the law.
Superman is powerful. He probably could do anything he wanted if he had a mind to, and few who could stop him. To him, because of this power, he can use it to be a shining example of what people can be. A friend of mine put it best; "Humans use the force we do because we don't have an alternative. Superman has the option, and chooses a higher path because he can." The failing in this case is the court system for not imposing a harsher sentence. Superman brought him in, that's where his job ends. It's up to the laws of the land to deal out punishment. (and they decided to use him as a backup power source for the city instead of the death penalty- but that's a discussion on the ethics of their world's justice system, not Superman)
I'll put it to you this way. If the government came to Superman and told him that, say, the Atomic Skull has been given the death penalty in a fair court, but they're totally cluless on how to carry that out since no conventional methods would work. I bet Superman would try to help them find a humane way to do it. He wouldn't like it, but he would probably help them devise a process, or at least offer to use his Phantom Zone generator on him as an alternative.
That would be an interesting story for DC to tell there... I wonder how they'd resolve it.
As for 'forcing his view of good' on the Elite, he was bringing them in to answer for their crimes. From the murder of the Atomic Skull to the war crimes they commited upon the two countries. The 'depowering' thing is a little fuzzy, but understandable. If he could do it without hurting them, there's nothing 'illegal' about that, really. If they went into a court of law, and faced down the U.N. and walked away scott free, Superman would have no right to fight with them. He still wouldn't like them, and would probably watch every move they made from then on out until they inevitably stepped over the line again, but he wouldn't pick another fight with them until they did. Remember, he kept trying to reason with them until they admitted to the murder of the leaders of those two countries. Once that was said, it was time to bring them in. Same way in which Luthor is elected president in some of the stories. Supes didn't 'take him out' because he wasn't doing anything illegal, though he did try to publicly discourage voting for him, I'm sure.
That was my take on those events anyway. -
Quote:I would pay you to write it if they let you.I have "giant robot" beat. I was thinking about a Nemesis task force idea during the Nemesis invasion events. The culmination of the task force would have you going to a distant island and fighting through the Nemesis army to a large structure on the ground being assembled by Nemesis. And when you reach it you have to go into it and try to shut down its computers. But when you do, you discover that you have only gotten the secondary cores, and the primary is still intact.
And then the entire structure lifts up off the ground like a giant steampunk Arachnos Flier with the team in it in a cutscene, and then the game respawns the Nemesis assault carrier just offshore of Peregrine Island and begins dropping Nemesis armies onto PI while the team tries to bring down the carrier and defeat the spawned enemies, calling for help from whatever players were out there. Sort of like a combination Synapse (spawning Babbage in Skyway), LGTF (which triggers a Rikti invasion event), Mothership raid (but a bit smaller), and an extra heaping scoop of kick-***. And the invasions would scale based on the number of players that decided to help, just like the Nemesis invasion event.
I'd write this task force for free if I could.
Also, now that we have quadroped forms avalable in game we could use:
Tsoo could have Guardian Lions (also known to many as Foo Dogs). Special bosses at the beginning of maps defending the entrance, or at the end defending the leader.
Crey cyber (or robotic) attack dogs.
Actually include the Nemesis Warhorses to the ranks.
The occasional Freakshow with their junkyard (possibly cybered) dogs. Heck, give the Freakshow a revamp and make them scary psychopaths again. One of my Freakshow characters has in his bio " Do you know why Freakshow embrace the whole 'leet-speak' thing, and seem to act goofy? Sure, some of us buy into it, but they're idiots and front-line cannon fodder. The truth is simple, It's because you suckers'll always underestimate us because of it..." Remind us of this. (love the Pyro Tank mentioned above also, especially with the kamikaze killswitch)
Maybe even include mounted warrior bosses at some point (Cimerorans, for example). -
If you make it an AV, even if someone sets it against bosses and no AV's it'll become an EB. However, I would do this sparingly. I've lately become discouraged to continue my project on the basis that 'defeat alls' and ' EB/bosses' (not to mention the 'trademark filter' will mess with some of my arcs on the horizon) will cause issues; the level/difficulty filter has a limit to what it can do. I suggest doing everything you can, including setting up 'unique' teams/individuals to do what you want to downgrade them, but some things are going to be at a set level of difficulty. Particularly when you're dealing with NPC models/types and nothing else will do.
When that occurs, I recommend making a notiation in your mission text letting the player know they may need others or that something will be more difficult than intended (orange or yellow is a good color for this) so the player will know to stock up on inspirations or invite more players.
This isn't, of course, the best solution, but the best available based on my experience. I hope I've helped.

Picked it up Tuesday. Really enjoyed it. The ending was great!

Quote:If just for this (among so many other reasons) I'm not looking forward to the 'reboot'.Wot be the same, nobody can replace Kurtwood Smith as Clarence Boddicker and do the line "******* leave" properly!
When Bruce Campell came to my city and did a Q&A session, he pointed out how Hollywood recycled stuff that was cult classic 20-30 years old with a big budget, to folks who didn't know any better... that's all I could think of from the moment this was announced... and it breaks my heart.
I make no allusions that the original Robocop was anything more than a 'B' movie. I remember seeing it in a theatre that had Disorderlies playing in the theatre one room over which had laughter so loud it drowned out parts of the movie (yes the theatre I went to sucked... I coped.) and lovingly have the Criterion version of the movie on DVD, and watch it every so often. It was a great movie for what it was, and love it to this day. I have the novel adapted from the screenplay that even included an old dog that didn't make it into the movie he bonded with as a side story...
The point is, I don't know if they can tell the 'in-jokes' they did in today's world with the 'gloss over' style of reporting, or illuminate the cut-throat culture of business society with the politically correct world we live in now. There's a lot that doesn't jive.
With some of the names on the list, There may be more than I see, with a return to the political/financial satire that led to the first Robocop movies at the front, than I see with current trends, making it worth viewing.
I guess in the end, time will tell. -
Quote:Yeah, the Sister Psyche return is a 'bait and switch' I could live with.Sister Psyche returning makes sense. If her mind jumped to someone else's body when she died, she could return at any point and it could be plausible.
Statesman would be harder to not make it look like a Superman attention grab.
Quote:Originally Posted by From some Dev in my imaginationYeah we take out both of them and have folks thinking it's because of who created them, then BAM! Sister Psyche makes a totally unexpected return!
I'm perfectly fine with Statesman being dead. I'm looking forward to finding out which new up-and-comer NPC we haven't met yet finds themselves the embodyment of Zeus... I mean imagine the fight to sway that character would be! Recluse would want them to train to be his evil lackey (thereby ultimately winning against Statesman in the end), how Ms. Liberty may feel about some kid having her grandfather's powers, every villain from Nemesis to the Center looking for ways to manipulate the new incarnation, much less the pressure of a world's expectations to have him be the next Statesman...
The power that is the incarnation of Zeus is still out there (now that Wade's dead- good riddance) So where's it going to end up?
Sorry about the minor derail. That just got me thinking is all.
I'd like that a lot, and I think it's too good an idea for them to pass up. They have statues of heroes, some of which with history. Adding them would make the City more real, because of the history the player's can recall. Those statues would mean more. Like the Cyrus Thompson statue in Kings Row. -
And with the different types of contact available to us now, does that mean we might actually be able to 'commune' or 'telepathically link' to Fathim now during his task force?
I mean, I used to joke about there being no phones for him to use as the reason, but now with hellravens... it just makes that silly -
I have a Stone/Stone Tank at 50, and had a lot of fun leveling him (and no, don't have teleport, didn't fit concept, but I 3-slotted Swift I'll tell you that!) That's really the only Stone Armor character I have, but I have a couple other Stone Melee I enjoy. One's a Brute with Energy Aura, I designed around concepts from "The Freedom Phalanx" novel.
Everything is tinted that radiation green color (crystal for the stone look). He used Dr. Null's (Positron's Nemesis) experiments/knowledge/etc. to infuse himself with massive ammounts of anti-matter, build a suit to control it, and make himself 'undead' (a-la Revenant) to survive the process. The crystaline shapes are anti-matter constructs that he temporarily builds using the anti-matter he generates, and the debri from them are motes of anti-matter he leaves behind slowly destroying the world behind him. He's low 30's and an endurance hog, but he's a lot of fun when up to speed.
Like many others, I can't say much about Ice. I like Ice Armor, but never could get into Ice Melee, and have only had a few characters that I've tried it on. I won't say it was the Ice Melee that did me in, more than I just couldn't get into the characters, though that may have had something to do with it, if just in the back of my mind. I don't know. -
Quote:That's why I dont' lead trials or mothership raids. I have no problem with having the star on SG nights (I usually do) or if the mood strikes me, forming PuG's for TF/SF's, radio/paper teams, or tip teams. All of those are pretty straight forward. Click mission, enter, fight, next. Even easier on TF's where it's just a linear run from beginning to end. Even when not leading, I try to be conversational.I don't prefer to lead things. I'll do it, but I'd much rather someone else do it. And the reason is alluded to above - I don't wish to be responsible for the other players' happiness. I'm not afraid of that responsibility, but I find it draining, and I'm much more relaxed if I don't have that to worry about.
Trials and raid things, on the other hand, are way to stressful and draining to me to make leading them any fun for me, and I don't need any higher blood pressure than I generally have.
I'm just thankful that there's a few really good trial leaders on my home server, and always extol their capabilities to those who ask. I truly salute a good trial leader, whether we succeed or fail, which in the end is a team effort. -
Quote:And "translated" is a key point here. Although CoH is inspired by superhero comics, it's an entirely different medium which has different demands on it. Books translated into movies aren't one-for-one matches, so there's no reason to expect a book translated into a game be identical.Quote:Originally Posted by Ryu_PlaneswalkerThe problem here is that Superman *is not* a tank, he is an Omega slotted incarnate, you are not looking at a fair representation of the AT when you look at him. If you want a good example of how an actual tank is supposed to be look at Ben Grimm, the Juggernaut, or Andre the Giant.
A Punch from Ben Grimm sends someone through a wall, a Punch from Superman sends people into space.
This is the main point with Tanks and Brutes. In a 'comic book' world they could both be the same thing, or they could have Tank resistance/defense and Scrapper or Blaster damage. In a game world, that sucks. There's a certain level of balance and 'need' for any AT (or class) they bring into the world.
The merging of CoH and CoV AT's has blurred that a bit, but not completely. Not yet. That's why I think it's more a matter of 'fine tuning' than Nerf this, buff that.
While my suggestion is, effectually a nerf to Brutes, it doesn't effect their solo play, and I've given the caveat that if it affects Fury generation in teams then Fury needs to be tweaked a bit in response. Overall performance isn't an issue in my opinion; and the only place anyone is stepping on anyone's toes here is in aggro management in terms of AT recognition/role. With the proper adjustments, a Brute can hold more aggro than Scrappers in a team, while doing a little more damage than a Tank. That seems appropriate to me, and I play and love all three AT's. -
Quote:What's to fix? Why can't they be as resilient? When I play Brutes this is beneficial in large teams when I need that extra survivability to help the team. Brutes have a full taunt. They're not Scrappers and should be able to hold a bit of aggro, and then survive it. Where they match a Tank is in being able to control that aggro, and to me, that's the problem. If you think Tanks aren't doing enough dmg, or should have a higher dmg cap, please prove it. Use facts, not inflammatory hyperbole to distract. I do agree with you; at the caps Brutes are too resilient compared to tanks. That's a brute problem, not a tank problem. Fix that problem.
I also play Tanks (more than Brutes to be honest) and when I do, I can survive the aggro I generate, and can direct it pretty well. My WP Tank has some trouble, but that's where I got the inspriation. That's what should differentiate the Tanks from the Brutes. I don't care what my Brute can survive as long as I can generate Fury. My Tank doesn't care as much about damage as long as it can generate, and maintain all the aggro it needs to for whatever encounter, and survive. That's the difference.
That's the playstyle difference, and where they most stand out. When I play my Brute, I want to generate high Fury, and pancake the rest of the group if they can't keep up (maybe even losing some of that aggro would allow me to survive more). When I'm on my Tank, I'm always aware of my teammates and what's going on. I pride myself on being able to keep them safe, and gather mobs in ways they're most effective. To me, that should be the difference. While the villanous Brute and heroic Tank's motivations are obvious- just to emphasize; as a hero, my Brute's looking to steal the limelight and be the 'best' hero out of the bunch, as a villain, my Tank is biding their time as the distraction while my 'lackeys' (I mean... teammates) do what they're supposed to do.
That's just how I play them, and I think in some way that does define the difference from Tanks and Brutes. If Brutes get enough aggro to build Fury, they're not concerned with what peels off them after that, and the Tank's main goal is to manage the aggro for the most effective response (theirs or their team's). I think that needs to be played up to.
I also think it's the easiest way to make Tanks stand out without doing any real harm to Brutes. What does a Tank care about what the Brute can survive? It's the aggro management that counts. That's always been the Tanker's creed, and where it's getting stepped on. I easily solo my WP/Mace Tank at +1x8 (+more in DA, but granted he's probably one of my most expensive builds- and he's not even my 'main') but in teams all I want it to get all that aggro and keep my team doing what they do best!
I take out my enemies, I survive what they throw at me. I do the same on my Brutes and Scrappers (and frankly all the other AT's at varying speeds) solo. What more can I want?
What's in your Tank? -
Sorry about that! It's for 15-19! I'll fix that on the OP as well.

Quote:Ninja run helps with that, but yeah, I'd like to see that too.I hope the revamped KR has rooftops similar to those found in Mercy and Cap. There's large parts of those zones that can be traveled by rooftop. Daredevil, Batman, Spiderman and the TMNT, not to mention dozens of other superheroes did all their traveling by rooftop. There is no place in Paragon that really manages to capture that experience.
And the building/resturant the Furies own and live in. That needs to get put in there, especially with all the Well lore going around now.

Well I was planning to release it after the 1st, but since tomorrow is I-23, I figured that might overshadow it a bit
so I decided to release it today to give you something to kill time while waiting for tomorrow's neat stuff.
This re-write of the canon story arc follows up on Carla Brunelli's story "002(A)-The Clockwork Captive: FREEDOM Style" where you get to help a young Hero Corps recruit get to the bottom of what makes the Clockwork tick.
So without futher ado:
Name of the arc: 002(B)-Mind of a King: FREEDOM Style
by: @Lycantropus
Arc ID: 546987
I hope you enjoy!
